Unconnected photos

I have photos in Adobe photoshop that somehow did not download to My Pictures. When I try to retrieve these it comes up as missing file and I am unable to connect them or do anything because they do not exist anywhere on my computer. How do I move them to My Pictures so that I can keep them and send them by email?

I received an e mail with 2No. photo images (jpeg)attached.
When I open the images in Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.2 everything is ok but on when I click on next photo there are about 100 unconnected images. I cannot find them on my PC. I have done all the searches but no luck. Is it possible that they are in a temporary internet folder?. I do not know where the images have come from. Could the images be hidden in the e mail somewhere.? Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks Mick Clark

  • How can I transfer my Photos INCLUDING tags from Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.2 on a new?

I have some thousand photos on my old PC using Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.2.
How can I transfer them on a new PC (and a new more professional photoshop edition) without losing the tags?
    Thanks for any help.

If you still have your 3.2 psa catalog in your "My Catalogs" folder, try
    downloading PSE5  from here:
    http://www.johnrellis.com/photoshop_elements_5.0_trial_version.exe.
PSE5 should be able to find your catalog and you can convert it into PSE5.
If that doesn't work, it may be because you weren't able to run  "reconnect
all missing files" in PSA3.2 before attempting the conversion.   If all your
photos were still connected, this should work.  Then you can open PSE8 and
convert PSE5 into PSE8.  Do a "reconnect all missing files" in PSE5 before
you do the conversion.  Even though all my files were connected when I
converted PSA2 into PSE5, PSE5 had about 30 unconnected photos.
    Good luck!

  • How to transfer metadata (tags etc) from Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.2 to A P Elements 8

I have just bought the Adobe Elements 8. I was told that this product was the upgrade product from the trial version of Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.2. Can't find a clear solution in this forum of how to transfer the metadata to the Adobe Elements 8  and continue the indexing with the latest product. Hopefully somebody can help.

  • PSE 10 Backup Excludes Some tif & jpg

Goal was:  Backup PSE 10 catalog on laptop and restore it to desktop.
PSE 10 backup of 60K photos failed to backup 4K photos, many .tif and some .jpg.  Reconnected, repaired, repaired anyway & optomized all successfully prior to backup.  Also did same after backup & restoration and all steps were successful except Reconnect was not.  Refuses to reconnect missing files, so have manually found (by scrolling through the catalog) and connected 2.5K photos.  Remaining unconnected photos can only be located one at a time by clicking on Reconnect, which results in a total count of the number missing and then PSE 10 tries to locate just one and when doesn't find it, the PSE 10 closes.  Has taken weeks to reach this point by scrolling 60K photos so remaining, some of which are in stacks, by letting PSER 10 try to Reconnect each photo one at a time and close is a tremendous waste of one life!
Others have written of this same problem, but there has been no solution from Adobe.
Any and all help appreciated.  Thank you.
    Pam

Yes, when you think about it, it's impossible for PSE to backup photos that it can't find....
Where are those "missing" files now located?
Have you tried pausing the reconnection process by hitting the "Browse" button on its window and then pointing the reconnection to the parent directory of the missing files?

  • Flash Web Gallery large photo border erratic behavior

In Lightroom HTML Web Gallery one can define border styles for the displayed photos. I cannot find a similar future in the Flash Gallery however. Is there one??? In any case, the first 6 photos in my Flash Web Gallery appear with a black border around the main large displayed photos. The subsequent photos do not have any border. In either case, it would be nice to have the border appearance consistent and preferably user definable.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi John,
Thanks for that. A bit more digging - preview in browser is fine and export to harddrive then runs in browser OK. I tried HTML gallery and got the same error (No 2 says a file was truncated) so I chucked it all at another server and it seems to be OK. Looks like an ISP problem.
    Those unconnected problems were:
Despite repairs I still can't burn to CD, it still says it's been disabled. I don't miss the feature but I like to think my installation is fully functional.
I still seem to have a memory leak in that if I crop, edit and export 46 images as jpg it falls over, very politely - sorry for the inconvenience etc but this is repeatable, yesterday it crashed at 46 and 92 images. I wonder if my 2.3 install was OK and this was behind the second part of my question.

  • Qtz-Screensavers and Photo Booth crashing

I'm having trouble with Snow Leopard and it's driving me nuts.
Whenever I try to preview a qtz-file based screensaver like Apple's Arabesque in Systems Preferences, it'll crash.
Whenever I try to open Photo Booth, the Icon will bounce a few times and the app will crash, too.
Seemingly unconnected, I'm assuming the reason lies with qtz-files in both cases as I'm guessing Photo Booth makes use of those as well.
I also tried dragging a qtz-file onto Safari to render it there. Guess what, it crashed as well.
I got so frustrated, I reinstalled 10.6. Wonder of wonders, it worked! Well, until I updated Snow Leopard using Software Update. 10.6.2 ruined the fun for me (again). Here's what's interesting: I tried a different user account (Admin, as well) an everything worked fine, even under 10.6.2.
Here's what I already tried, without success:
*Repairing disk permissions*, from within SL and from DVD.
    Deleting:
    ~/Library/Caches
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.preference.desktopscreeneffect.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.PhotoBooth.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/By Host/com.apple.screensaver
    ~/Library/Preferences/By Host/com.apple.systempreferences.xxx.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/By Host/com.apple.PrefPane.Network.xxx.plist (the X's will be numbers)
I tried this command in Terminal.app:
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user
    I deleted
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
    as well
    But nothing worked.
    Has anyone any ideas left?

  • Composite photo and background layer question

I would appreciate some help with a workflow problem when dealing with a composite, selection and background layer. My normal workflow is to start of in LR4, and if need be do an "edit in, CS6". I am relatively new to CS6, so bear with me.
I have some portraits I want to put different backgrounds on. I am using Matt Kloskowski's Layers book and Composites books written for CS5. I also have Martin Evening's book on CS6 and the workflow for doing a composite is pretty much the same. The catch is that none of them start off in LR with the original photo. They all describe the following basic workflow pattern:
    1. Bring up the main photo in CS using "edit in CS6"
    2. Change the photo from a background layer to a regular layer
    3. Make a selection.
    4. Make a layer mask
    5. Refine the edge
    6. open the background photo you want to place the selection in (steps 4 and 5 are sometimes reversed so you are refining the edge on the new background)
    7. copy and paste the original photo onto the new background
    8. Refine the edge if not already done
    9. Save and exit back to LR with the composite
If I follow this procedure I run into a couple of problems:
    1. My backgrounds are in a separate folder on my computer and not cataloged in LR. So, if I open them in photoshop and paste the original photo onto that image, LR will not know that I want to take the new composite back to the original folder along with the protrait. If I go to save the image, CS want to take the composite back to the folder on my computer where I got the background from. I tried playing around and tried renaming the composite similar to the naming convention I use for my photos in LR and then importing it into that folder after I have saved it in the background folder. This had some unintended consequences. First, I had trouble renaming the composite photo. For some reason Windows kept plugging in an old photo file name from one of my photos taken two years ago. After I discovered that  I could work around it. But after the first composite finally got into LR, when I tried to do it again, the import button on the left side of my LR went dark and I couldn't import the second composite photo I was working on. This could have been a coincident and unconnected LR glitch, but I have never had that problem before.
So...I was thinking of modifying the workflow to the following:
    1. Bring up the main photo in CS using "edit in CS6"
    2. Change the photo from a background layer to a regular layer
    3. Make a selection.
    4. Make a layer mask
    5. Refine the edge
    6. open the background photo you want to place the selection in
    7. copy and paste the new BACKGROUND onto the original photo
    8. Move or make the new background layer THE "Background" layer
    10. Refine the edge
    11. Save and exit back to LR with the composite
I am envisioning this will ensure that my composite will wind up back in LR because it is still keeping track of the original photo which now has gotten the new background, regardless of what the file name of the new background was.
Does any of this make sense? Does any one know a better way of handling this?
    Thanks for any help,
    Jim

Yes, it makes sense and I think you should go ahead and try it.

  • Transfer iphone photos to aperture

I just got the iPhone 4S and want to transfer my iphone 3GS photos to aperture so I can edit them and put them on my iPhone 4S.
Problem is, since upgrading to iOS5 (I sense this is the problem), APerture won't recognize my 3GS or my 4S for that matter, as cameras.
How can I get Aperture to recognize my phones so I can import?
    Thanks!

I was having a similar, but not identical problem.  I just moved from a 3G to 4S, and the automatic Aperture photo import process now seemed to be broken, though I could still do it manually.
*Still using Aperture 2.1.4 (haven't had cause to upgrade thus far)
*iTunes 10.5 (latest as of this post), set to sync the phone w/Aperture
    *OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard)
*Not using iCloud/Photo Stream syncing form the phone; I am sticking with the sync cable until I get Lion
I've found that Aperture only mounts the phone & prompts for import of new photos when I first connect the phone using the cable.  Subsequently hitting "sync" in iTunes while the phone is connected will not mount the phone in Aperture.  However, it's possible to manually import photos to Aperture by hitting "Import".  The only caveat to this is that Aperture will not see/prompt for the photos taken since the sync cable was plugged in.   I.e., if you take a new photo with an unconnected phone, connect the sync cable, decline Aperture's offer to sync that new photo, then take a 2nd photo while connected, then tell Aperture to doa  manual import from the phone, it won't see the 2nd photo.  You must eject the phone from iTunes / disconnect and reconnect the cable for Aperture to see the 2nd photo.

  • Lost 000's of photos from my catalog, can't reconnect due to sort problem

Hi - I have thousands of photos that have 'unconnected' from my catalog, when I try to reconnect them 2 different thing occur (badly):
The sort by location does not work, so all the photos with the same name appear in sequence, each from a different folder
When I do get a 'match', the size of the photo is slightly different than the match, the program tells me the photo is already in the catalog (then why is it listed as missing?).  The only thing I can do to remove the photo from the 'un-connected' list is to delete it from the catalog, which does just that!
    Help!?
    Thanks,
    Matt

You are in the wrong forum.
    Photoshop doesn't have a catalog.
Maybe you should ask here: PS Album Starter forum.
    Or here: Elements forum.

  • How to reconnect 27000  photos when the organizer program keeps crashing?

I currently have PSE 9 and some how 27000+ files of 50000+ are unconnected and the organizer is so unstable it crashes before it can even find two files. i don't know how the files got disconnected, I hope they are still there just disconnected to the organizer. Is there a way to scour my hard drives and cull all photos and move/copy them in one place and start all over with a new catalog?

Does your organizer crash in other situations than trying to reconnect files?
I suppose you have already run the 'repair' option in the catalog manager.
Here is some information about reconnecting:
    Photoshop Elements (PSE) knowledge base.
If you are able to 'write metadata to files' in the File menu, a last resort solution would be to create a new catalog and re-import your library. That woud at least get your keywords, ratings and notes back. (not albums, stacks, version sets... )

  • Getting a NAS for photo storage but want to run Time Machine to separate drive

My late 2009 iMac is getting dangerously full but, as a photographer, I need quick and easy access to my files. I am planning on getting a NAS setup for photo storage, setting up two drives, with RAID 1 as a backup, in case of a hard drive failure.
Once I have moved all my files to the NAS, I want to use Time Machine to backup my system to an attached external hardrive (as I have always done), and use the NAS separately, for storage, file sharing and remote backup when I am travelling.
After some research, I am looking at the Synology DS413j or the QNAP TS420.
I need reliability, compatability and ease of use, and don't want to spend £400-£500 without being sure that I'm not opening a can of worms.
Does anyone have any experience with either of these?
    Thanks

well thought out chain of logic on your setup and best choice on the Synology.
As for reliability, Synology is just a fancy box, ...the most reliable from many perspectives,...however the actual HD contained therein can only be one of 4 diff. mfg.(hitachi, toshiba, Seagate or WD)
    http://www.amazon.com/Synology-DiskStation-Diskless-Network-Attached/dp/B008U69L C4
Do not consider, as recommendation, any WD Green drives, rather WD red, or, best: black grade drives (best and highest rated in quality).
Ultimately with much HD experience, everything boils down to data REDUNDANCY, and the very best of HD, as much testing by others proves, will fail invariably.
Ideally youre leaving out a final important link in your data protection, a final redundancy NON-RAID , not attached copy of all this data frequently updated and not left attached for protection.
Methodology to protect your data. Backups vs. Archives. Long-term data protection
Secondary data on a single external HD or RAID array is not a redundancy, but a PRIMARY data copy.    First Redundancy takes place on a Secondary storage medium/locus. (both of these external of course)
2nd level protection in any redundancy necessitates it "be unconnected"
Data ON the actual computer is not considered, ergo a single copy OFF a computer is just that, a backup / copy.  Redunancy begins as secondary to a FIRST COPY

  • "corrupted" photos off iPhone?

I tried today to download 13 photos I have on my iPhone from the past week. They showed up in iPhoto as "dashed-line squares", but no images. When I tried to download them, iPhoto said it was an "unreadable file".
Then I tried ImageCapture: it downloaded them, but when I tried to view with Preview I got a message saying "Couldn't open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn't recognize." Well, they simply .JPG, as best I can tell and confirmed by "Command + I" (getting the info on the file).
Has anyone else encountered this? All help is gratefully received.
    Thanks,
    Steve

Nicely done, Nathan. I think I figured it out. I was initially plugging my iPhone to a USB hub w/ power adapter. In that arrangement, it wasn't working. since I initially posted the message I downloaded the photos via Windoze (Parrallels) and deleted the photos from the phone. Then I unconnected the phone, took a couple new pics. and opened iPhoto....surprisingly, it still thought the iPhone was connected?!?
So, I right-clicked & "unmounted" the "ghost" iPhone. Then I plugged it in...and iPhoto didn't recognize anything, but iTunes did.
Then I did, what would probably be your next recommendation: I connected the iPhone directly to my MacBook, skipping the USB hub where my headset & scanner/printer/fax is connected AND...viola...back to normal.
Thank you for such a quick response. Does this fall in line with what you were thinking?

  • I am having macbook air recently my iphotos did not open and was showing report apple and reopen but i came to know that by pressing alt and iphotos i open an new photo library and stored the pics but now how can i get the pics which i had in the earlier

i am having macbook air recently my iphotos did not open and was showing report apple and reopen but i came to know that by pressing alt and iphotos i open an new photo library and stored the pics but now how can i get the pics which i had in the earlier photo please help me to recover my photos

    Well I'll guess you're using iPhoto 11:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

    TD

  • PSE icons instead of the photo. I need to view photos at a glance. Please help me????

Please help, this is driving me crazy.  I have downloaded my free PSE #9, it came with my Leica Camera.  I cannot view at a glance any of my photos.  There is only an icon that reads, PSE.  To view any of my photos, I must click select and then preview.  This gets old, and I am doing 4 times the work. I am having to use the dates to guess where my photos might be.  I hate this!  My old Photo Shop #5 didn't do this.  When you went to my pictures, you could see every photo.
I have tried the right click and open as any program.  What ever program I choose, that is the icon that appears.  No photo. Still no good.
    Please help.
    Thanking anyone in advance,
    Leica

    Hi,
Are you using Windows Explorer to view the files?
If so, load Explorer, go to the Tools menu and select Folder Options.
Click on the View tab and make sure the first option (Always show icons, never thumbnails) is not checked.
Click on OK and see if that is any better.
