Under "Bluetooth" in System Prefs., on Imac, I try to connect Iphones....it only works to a certain point...

My Iphones are "discoverable", and the passcode comes up on my computer screen, as does the place to enter it on my Iphone. I put it in, click on "pair" and the result is it still says on my Iphone, that particular ( or any of my Imacs) is not connected. To be honest, I'm not even sure what I could achieve were I actually able to accomplish this connection, but I sure would like to find out.

The iPhone (to my knowledge) will not connect to a Mac. iPhones have limited Bluetooth connectivity (peer-to-peer).

You may have to enter device code like 000 in phone so it can pair up.

My date/time is incorrect. System pref freezes everytime I try to click date/time. Safari won't let me search the web, if i type in any link it won't respond.

I downloaded mavericks 10.9 everything has been working fine and now I turned my macbook on and the date had been changes. It now will not let me get into the date time tab in system preferences and everytime i try to click it, it just freezes and has to be force quit. This is affecting my safari. None of my top sites come up now when opened and it usually opens right to my homepage which is apple but isn't working now. Any suggestions?

I have decided to dedicate this thread to the wonderful errors of Lion OSX. Each time I find a huge problem with Lion I will make note of it here.
Today I discovered a new treasure of doggie poop in Lion. No Save As......
I repeat. No Save As. In text editor I couldn't save the file with a new extension. I finally accomplished this oh so majorly difficult task (because we all know how difficult it should be to save a file with a new extension) by pressing duplicate and then saving a copy of the file with a new extension. Yet then I had to delete the first copy and send it to trash. And of course then I have to secure empty trash because if I have to do this the rest of my mac's life I will be taking up a quarter of percentage of space with duplicate files. So this is the real reason they got rid of Save As: so that it would garble up some extra GB on the ole hard disk.
So about 20 minutes of my time were wasted while doing my homework and studying for an exam because I had to look up "how to save a file with a new extension in mac Lion" and then wasted time sitting here and ranting on this forum until someone over at Apple wakes up from their OSX-coma.
are you freaking kidding me Apple? I mean REALLY?!!!! who the heck designed this?!!! I want to know. I want his or her name and I want to sit down with them and have a long chat. and then I'd probably splash cold water on their face to wake them up.

IMac network won't connect 1000mb/1GB - only 100mb works

I have an intel iMac.
It used to connect to my 1GB switch at 1GB, but recently it will only connect at 100MB. I have swapped leads, tried with another switch, but it will still only work over ethernet at 100MB connection.
When i manually select 1000mb in System Pref>Network, it wont connect at all to the switch.
So, i have to revert to the 100mb connection to get on my network.
Any ideas?

Trouble getting pics from mac iphoto onto the cloud to they are viewable on the cloud or ipad, iphone itv etc. i did try to change system pref in mac but there is no cloud there, only the old me logo, also the "ME" logo still shows on my tool bar on ipho

OK so I've recently placed some photos on iphoto that I would like to share with my other devices - ipad, iphone, apple tv. There doesn't appear to be anywhere on the could for photos - so that is my first question. My second question is how do I even get the photos from my mac into the cloud? The system preferences for the mac instruct to update the cloud icon however my system is still showing the old MobileMe white cloud blue sky icon - not the current cloud. The Mobile Me icon is inoperable. So I've tried several times to drop ad drag, change preferences, nothing so far is working. I've checked that I've got the latest software, running Mac OS X 10.6.8, ipad and iphone are similarly up to date.

You cannot use iCloud with 10.6.8; the minimum requirement is Lion 10.7.2 - this is a paid upgrade. The current system is Mountain Lion and if your Mac meets the requirements you can obtain it from the Mac App Store (in Applications). The requirements for Mountain Lion are listed here:

Yeah - the title contains the main question :-)
I got files pushed from myiPhone 6+ with iOS 8.1.2 to OS X Yosemite with newest updates on an MacBook Pro 13" mid 2012. But the iPhone only found the mac when the bluetooth system settings page is open. The source app on the iPhone was WhatsApp.
...and I just saw that the handoff icon from Safari appears in my doc now (why not earlier)?
Sounds crazy to me. Is this known?
- Devices are not paired (they were paired once)
- are in the same WLAN (devices are allowed to connect to each other on my FritzBox 7270 v2)
- are near to each other
- AirDrop is enabled and set to everyone
- the iPhone was restored from my previous iPhone backup and got a settings reset to try to fix some problems in older iOS8 versions
- the MacBook is running since I bought it in September 2012.

There is no way i can answer that, there area a million ways one person can spy on another in this day and age.
However if you were to wipe the phone and set it up as new plus change all your associated Apple passwords to ones your ex can;t guess, then I can say he couldnt 't tracking you through the phone. Wiping and reinitializing it would be the same as getting a new one so I don;t think you need to go through that expense.
However assuming this post is real and you are experiencing the situation you describe you need to contact the authorities. There is no way anyone here can know the true seriousness of the situation and to be giving advice on this issue is wrong. We could be causing you to fell a false sense of safety. Because of that this will be my last post here.
So please do what I recommended to the phone and then seek out the proper help.

Imac retina 5k; hot corner display sleep only works on attached display

Just taken delivery of iMac retina 5k. I have two Thunderbolt displays attached left and right. I always use the bottom left hot corner to put the display to sleep but on this new setup I have to swipe to the bottom left of the left display to get this to work. With my previous Macbook Pro it used to work if I swiped to the bottom left of the Pro, ie I didn't have to go to the left hand Cinema Display. Anyone had this problem?

I work for a company that produces batteries...ours work, other brands sometimes do not. if they are manufactured just a hair out of spec, they wont connect consistently...
they must wobble cuasing flucuations
same with the mouse...if you use a bit of blue tack, it holds the batteries in, problems solved
the keyboard is a little different and I cant figure out a macguiver fix

IPhone speaker only works under certain conditions

Hi,
When I try and make calls, I can't hear anything from the person at the other end of the line unless I put the phone on speaker-phone and even then, it still isn't that loud. Also, when I play music from my iPhone without the headphones connected and the volume on full, no sound comes out. When I have my headphones connected, the phone and music function as normal and I have no problem hearing. I would therefore say that there is a problem with the speaker, but I don't know what to do about it.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

System log error message when try to connect to message server

There is a syslog entry, " Q0X Connection to client C of msg server closed as time exceeded". Research on SAP suggested a old note 73936. I am trying to find the root cause and resuire some guidance.The entries in dev_ms file shows the message:

ERROR => No MS_LOGIN within 300 seconds [msxxserv.c   8039]

How to narrow down whether it is caused by an incorrect client program or network issue? the ip address displayed in error message in dev_ms file is not listedin /etc/hosts files. Will that be causing the issue. Any help would be appreciated?

Hi,
That timeout message occurred due to inactivity from the client side. First you need to identify what application is connected to your message server. May be it's not a problem at all and this application just doing nothing and since message server is terminating a connection between them. Then, if you want to increase the time for message server to wait for activity from the application part, increase ms/conn_timeout parameter (set to 300s by default).

Bluetooth (i have been using for a while) says connected, but is not working.

I have a Macbook pro, just updated to Yosemite, and now blue tooth (devices I have been using) don't work even though it says connected. I have googled the possible problems-tried all the fixes, nothing has helped.

My experience in this situation has been that's it's related to the visa card, and not necessarily the phone or the iTunes store. In addition to verifying all of the credentials on the card as entered, I'd also check with you card bank and see if they have declined the charges due to some type of security concerns. I have a Chase card, and they will decline a charge even though there are sufficient funds available, if the charges meet some security screening criteria.

System Pref Start up Disk blank

So the computer is working, I can boot to either windows or OS X by holding option, but under System Preferences > Start Up Disk there are zero disks listed. any way to fix that?

We can try by forcing it to create a new System Prefs preference file; if that doesn't work, a reinstall by using your recovery partition is necessary I believe since System Prefs are part of the OS and so the only way to reinstall. But, first:
go to your User Library (which is now hidden): holding down Option key, go to "go" in File Menu and the library will show up. If you want, you can drag its icon into the side bar (I've done that for easier access); scroll down to Preferences and then to the two items that are shown here:
Throw them in the trash (do not empty yet).
Restart computer.
Open System Prefs and see if the startup disk now shows.
Doing this may return some changes you've made to the default state, so you'll need to check those Panes to see if the settings need to be redone. If everything is ok, you can empty the trash.

App Store ignoring System Pref. settings

Today I awoke to an App Store notification that there were updates available. I was given two choices, 1) Install 2) Later (with some options). I opened App Store app to see what updates were supposedly available and there was the one update I was putting off which was XCode. I didn't want to install it now. I knew that I had changed the App Store settings in System Preferences to olny check for updates but not act on them or download them so I opened System Prefs. and verified this. Sure enough, I had only one item checked (Automatically check for updates). Everything else was unchecked.
So, I have a few quesstions;
Why is App Store ignoring its own settings and download an app I didn't want yet?
Why did the notification only offer me two options (again ignoring its own settings)?
Why didn't the notification tell me which updates were available?
And some comments;
This is just an unacceptable way to approach updates, IMHO. I need control over what is going to be downloaded and when (bandwidth control and timing). I must know what is ready for update beforehand so I can understand what it means and be able to opt out or delay it to a point when I am ready (control over what is going to be updated vs what is not and when).

First, open Disk Utility, select your hard disk, go to Partition and create a volume. Move your files to it. Then, press Command and R keys in boot, open Disk Utility, erase the Mac volume and reinstall. When the install ends, transfer your files to your account and delete the volume

On the same iMac wifi can be connected in Win7 but not OSX Maverick

Hi All,
I'm encountering a problem of connecting to wifi on my new iMac. I'm wondering whether anyone in the community has also encountered the same problem.
My iMac is a late 2013 model with 21.7" display bought just 2 weeks again. The OSX installed is Maverick with the latest update. I have also installed Win7 using Bootcamp.
At the beginning, the wifi connection was OK both in OSX and Win7. However, just around 1 week ago, the network connection began to fail in OSX. When logging into the Win7, I can still connect to my router through the wifi and everything is OK. This at least can proves that the wireless adapter in the iMac itself doesn't malfunction and the router works fine. Also all the other devices in my home connects to the same router through wifi has no problem including 2 iPhone5, 1 iPhone4S, 1 iPhone4 and a MBA 2012 model.
However, whenever I switched to the OSX any try to connect to the wifi ends in a failure. The SSID of the network is displayed in the visible network list still but not connectable. By clicking the name and after a while for the iMac to try to connect, a message saying "network cannot be joined" will pop up. Even by running the network diagnosis and specifying a static ip address for the iMac won't help. And I have also tried out some tricks in the community but all seemed not work.
Really appreciate if someone can suggest and help.
