Under fire fox preferences, search tab - nothing shows up - it is a duplicate of another tab - how do I fix this?

I'm running Firefox 37.0.2 on a Mac 10.9.5. The search tab was there when I first started to try to get rid of yahoo and have google as my default search on the tool bar, but now Search won't show its own content. If I click on "general" first, for example and then click on "search", none of the information on the Search tab changes - it is as if it is still General. If I click on applications, and then search, search will show the same information as is under applications - and so on.
Another tab that acts the same is "Tab", therefore both Search and Tab aren't functioning.

Hi Cor-el - thanks for taking the time to reply to my post. I haven't tried this, since the first reply has seemed to work, but now I know how to restart in safe mode if I have too. Thanks!!

is that really what it is? this is the native iphone weather app. the funny part is that when i use the actual weather channel app, it does provide it.
is this an api issue with the weather channel and the iphone then? i guess there's no fix?

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?

In Firefox 3.6 and later on Windows you can hide the "Menu Bar" via "View > Toolbars" or via the right-click context menu on a toolbar.
Press F10 or press and hold the Alt key down to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.
Go to "View > Toolbars" or right-click the "Menu Bar" or press Alt+V T to select which toolbars to show or hide (click on an entry to toggle the state).

I used to be able to search a subject and have the "results" show up with a new tab, but now it opens the result in the same tab, how do I fix this?
