Under Mac OS 10.5.8, itunes 10.6.3 not running

Under Mac OS 10.5.8, iTunes 10.6.3 not running, demanding Quicktime 7.5.5 or higher. Quicktime 7.6.4 installed according to 'About this Mac,' but QT Player is 7.2.1. How do I fix this so I can use iTunes?

Open Application > Utilities > System Profiler and check the Quicktime version in Frameworks vs. the version in Applications.  One person had re-installed their operating system.  It had kept the newer Player application but had reverted to an earlier version of the underlying support framework files which many applications utilize.  Re-installing Quicktime 7.7 took care of the problem.  Do this manually, not with Software Update.

  • My itouch will not back up in itunes so I can not run updates

    When I connect my iotouch and try to run a back up before updating it runs forever and will not backup. I can transfer purchases and was able to sync apps but I can not run update because I can not back up.

    Hopefully you aren't doing this with a PC running Windows 2000 since 2000 is not supported.
    Try deleting the existing backup and manually creating a new backup.
    Go to iTunes > Preferences and under the Devices tab, select and delete the existing backup.
    Then right-click on your iPod Touch under Devices in the iTunes source list and at the menu window that appears, select Back Up to create a new backup.

    After exhausting all suggestions on the iTunes pages, I still can not get access to the iTunes store. All software is up to date & iTunes has been uninstalled & re-installed with no effect.     What happens when you try to open iTunes?
    Does it just hang with iTunes.exe running i=on the processes tab in the Task manager even though it never opens?

    I have MS Server 2003 as my OS. I haven't used iTunes in a long time because I never got it to work on my computer. I downloaded anapod explorer and that has worked well for me, but I really would like to try iTunes again as I have several friends that tell me how wonderful it is.
    Anyways, I install iTunes and it goes through the initial setup procedure, then will not actually show up. I see iTunes.exe in my task manager for about 10 seconds then it disappears. No error message, no nothing. I've tried new versions, old versions, standalone quicktime, deleting "ipod/apple" anything out of the registry. I've force-disabled DEP.
    I'm a well seasoned windows user, not so much mac stuff, but I've been messing with this for 3+ hours now, and can't seem to get it to run.

    I don't think your OS is on the list of supported operating systems, but still.
    Does your Quicktime work? iTunes can't work without it and the fault seemed to relate to a Quicktime file.
    Sometimes installing the stand alone QUicktime works.
    First completely remove Quicktime using the method here: it is not for your OS but I expect you can adjust.

    When you come to the system32 folder you can remove any file with Quicktime in the name.
    There can also be problems with incompatible codec packs. If you have any of the following:
    ACE & K-Lite mega codecs package, QT alternative, Storm codec, WinAVI video converter, Mpcstar, (possibly starcodec pack, 3ivx)
    Uninstall them before installing the stand alone QUicktime.
    Download the version of Quicktime that does not include iTunes from here:

    I have been experiencing the same problem since last Friday. I have tried the following:
    Cleared all Application Support files, cache and calendar files in my user library.
    I have repraired permissions, twice.
    Removed iCloud configuration in system preferences.
    Tried multiple user accounts.
    All of these things have not worked. I would love to know if anyone has experienced this and actually fixed the problem.

    I've spent a couple hours going over advice on this forum as well as elsewhere on the Internet to resolve this. iTunes installs without a problem but when we run it, nothing appears. iTunes.exe *32 and iTunesHelper.exe *32 appear in the Windows Task Manager but there is no other evidence that iTunes is running.
    I've tried installing and reinstalling. I've tried a number of different compatibility settings. Surely there must be an easy way to resolve this.

    I had this same problem.  What worked for me- not sure which one did it, but I went to System Preferences-Displays, and I turned off "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" and I also changed my resolution from "Best for retina display" to scaled "More Space".  The other scaling options seemed to do similar.
