Under the screen

So, I have a hair under my screen, and yes it is a hair. I regularly blow the things off of my MacBook Pro with an air-can, and that includes the edges of the screen, and when I got near the side where the hair was, it moved further in.
Is there any safe way to take the screen off? Or should I bring it to the Apple store? I, personally, think that it's worth it. Because it's driving me insane.
Thanks,
James

lefaggawt,
I would not recommend taking apart your display unless you know exactly what you're doing. I would also recommend that you throw away your "can of air". Pressurized air can too easily drive dirt and grime further down into your computer...right where you don't want it to be. (As you've found out.)

  • Will I get a replacement for dust under the screen?...

    Hey everyone!
I've had an iPhone since the 3G came out and I've never had any problems with dust. My 3G got replaced by 02 insurance about 5 months ago and I got a new 3GS 16GB. Since then I noticed the odd little bit of dust appearing under the screen. Most of the time I couldn't see it so I didn't really care but now I've noticed a few larger pieces and they're really annoying.
I understand that I should get a 12 month warranty with this and surely it's not meant to happen so I'd expect a replacement. I've searched around and I seem to get mixed answers. The problem is that I'm currently working in Cologne and there are only 3 Apple Stores in Germany (I can't believe it!) and the nearest one is still over 100 miles away.
What do you recommend? Would Apple do anything like post one (I doubt it?) or am I going to just have to wait until I'm near Frankfurt (or even back in London) and book an appointment there. Even then... what are my chances of getting a replacement?
Thanks in advance everyone! Much appreciated

I doubt they will give you a replacement. I know here in the States you can take your iphone to an Apple store and they can replace the screen and charge you $200 for that. But I find it hard to believe they would replace the screen for free just because there are dust particles under the glass. That's just my opinion.

  • Bubble under the screen(original iPhone

I just noticed today that a bubble under the screen has appeared. At first I thought that it was on top of the screen so I try to clean it. My question is I bought it back in Feb 2008, checked the website and it is still under the limited warranty, does the warranty cover this? If so how do I get in contact with Apple to get this fixed?

Should still be covered under warranty. If you're near an Apple Store you can bring it in for repair/exchange. If you're not near one, you can call Apple Care and they'll send you a prepaid container in which to send it.

  • Isopropyl Alcohol got under the screen, should I replace it?

I was cleaning my commuter yesterday with Isopropyl Alcohol as one of my mom's co-wokers said it was the way to clean he screen. After this happened I read that constant contact causes an LCD screen to become brittle to the extent it cracks. When should I replace my computer? When it shows sign of cracking or now?

Ok, you used Isopropyl Alcohol on the screen but it hasn't cracked.
But you got some under the screen, meaning you used too much.
Just wait for it to dry, it will eventually.
Alcohol breaks up the human oils that creates smudges on the screen, your supposed to tab a little on a cloth and then wipe the oil away, then use a new clean spot and repeat, removing the oil onto the cloth as the alcohol evaporates fast.
No liquid is to get insdie the machine, especially the built in keyboard.

  • My Imac Seems to have developed condensation under the screen does anybody know why or how to help this ?

My Imac Seems to have developed condensation under the screen does anybody know why or how to help this ?
seems to have happned very suddenly.

I've had my 24" iMac for about 4 years now and yesterday was the first time I ever saw condensation building up in the lower right corner.  I completely freaked out, but after doing some online research, found that it wasn't uncommon to have this happen.  I live in Florida and we had a lot of rain that day and the temperature has been whacky... But I never thought I'd ever see condensation in my computer! )c:  I shut my computer down while freaking out and the condensation quickly disappeared.  I read some people are just leaving the computer on and it will also disappear.  I didn't want to take the chance of it getting worse, so I turned it off.  I'm kind of worried about turning it back on again.  Has anyone found anything else out about the problem?

  • Dust under the screen....

Does anyone know if you can have apple remove the dust under the screen if you are under warranty? Like will they service the iphone for that? And if they do, do you know if they will completely replace the iphone, or will they just remove the screen and fix it?
    Thanks

Roaminggnome is right, it's a case by case basis, but as long as you have not abused the phone, it's more than likely you can get a replacement, but don't quote me on that. They will replace the phone if they decide to--they don't do cosmetic work. So, what I'm saying simply is--maybe, maybe not--make an appointment with a Genius at an Apple Store to see. If they will, they'll give you another iPhone.

  • Bugs under the screen????

Hi, my Portege M400 laptop came with a manufacturing defect where the screen would separate from the lip of the plastic whenever I'd close it or flip it into tablet mode...But I'd only noticed it once little specs of dirt got underneath it, and I'd tried calling support for them to fix it but they said they wouldn't, keep in mind this was about three years ago, and now I open my laptop to find a little bug crawling under the screen! I'm pretty sure my warranty is out anyway but I accidentally squashed it against the LCD(or whatever type it is)...What should I do? Should I open the top and clean it out or what? I'm kind of worried that there's more somewhere under it, and this one's annoying, it's right on my Firefox URL box!
    Help??
NOTE: I don't have enough money for a new laptop!

zenny53: I've seen no mention yet of whether the same design has been used as the Micro.
Dust getting into the screen is not a function of sealing the screen. It will get in through air gaps e.g. where the buttons are. All I can suggest is keeping it in a good quality case, and away from dusty environments.
As for the headphone socket, technically you can only return the player when it's developed an actual fault. Is the sound reproduction actually effected?

  • Dust Under the Screen and Case Cracks

    Hey guys,
I am the proud owner of an iPhone 3G S, and love the thing to pieces. I've had it for 8 months now, however over the past few weeks, I have become slightly disappointed with it.
Firstly, a small crack appeared above the 'Silent On/Off' switch, which I don't understand how it appeared as the phone has never been dropped or bumped. It's only very tiny, but I'm a perfectionist and not particularly happy about the fact it has appeared by itself. I treat my phone like royalty.
Then today, I realised a tiny white fleck on the screen when running an app. At first, I thought it might have been a dead pixel, but it turns out that it's a fleck of dust under the screen. How did it get there?! And it's not the only fleck either. When I turned the screen off, there appears to be at least 3 or 4 tiny flecks. They aren't obtrusive to the screen, but annoy me as, like I said before, I'm a perfectionist.
Am I still within warranty at 8 months? And if I am, would Apple replace my iPhone if I was to return it? It was purchased from O2, so would I return it to them, or Apple directly?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I finally took my device to the Apple Store today. Due to having dust beneath the screen, as well as the crack, it meant they replaced the whole unit, rather than just the screen, which they would have done in the event of just dust.
If anyone else has any issues, I'd highly recommend taking it to a Genius Bar. The staff were so helpful, and no questions were asked really.
    Well done Apple

  • How did dust get under the screen?

I bought a PB used about a month ago and it was in like new shape with the exception of one dead pixel that annoyed me. This is getting picky but now I noticed there is a piece of dust about an inch away from the dead pixel which really annoys me when I see those. I don't understand how a piece of dust got under the screen, I've had my ipod touch for over 2 years, in my lint filled pockets and it doesn't have any dust under the screen, just in the creases of where the glass ends. I've only had the PB a few weeks and when transporting it I have it in the cloth sleeve, and I clean it often, how could it have gotten in there, through the speaker grill? And could I use like an air compressor to blow it out or would that possible cause damage to it. I was going to buy the convertible case and a screen protector soon but still I don't see how that happens. Sorry for the dumb post but it is really annoying and I want to know if anyone else has had that happen or if it dust can be blown out.

Thats too bad. I dont get how its getting under there, Im thinking probably through the speaker grills but I'm not sure, the dead pixel was annoying enough but if any more dust gets under there its going to be really annoying to see all that on the screen. I dont know if the one already in there might move to the edge so its not as noticeable or if it might work its way out over time, if more get under there though Id say the best solution would be to take the glass off, if its even possible on the PB, I dont know that much about them, I heard the battery isnt removable but I think that means user removable meaning a PB dealer could open and replace it. If it can be opened without a professional without scratching anything then maybe just taking the glass off will work but I'd only do that as a last resort. I'm starting to get more and more disappointing with the PB the dust, the battery life isnt what I hoped for it to be, and there are very few good apps. Maybe when the ipad 3 comes out I can get a cheap ipad one to fill in for where the PB lacks

  • Speck of dirt under the screen - extremely annoying!!!  What now?

On the top of my screen about 1/16" under the black border there's a tiny speck of dirt stuck under the screen. I suspect it got in there through the ear-speaker of the headphone jack.
How could it be removed? Is this something the Apple tech could take care of for me? I think the screen would need to be removed. It's annoying the heck out of me!
    -Jacob

People are taking them apart and documenting it all over the web.
    Here's one link: http://stream.ifixit.com/
I probably wouldn't do it, but some people are more hands-on than others.
I'd take it back as I've heard of the Apple store replacing dropped phones free of charge (usually they would not do this). Now is the time to take advantage of Apple's elevated "we want you to be satisfied" sentiment before it fades.
You may get a brand new one just for asking.
The question then becomes "How do you keep dirt specks out?"

  • E72 - Dust/dirt under the screen ?

    Hello!
I have the E72-1 and I'm very happy with the phone. Using 022.007 today and I would recommend this phone to a friend.
I have had a few known problems:
    pictures missing form the gallery
    the D-pad fails intermittently
No indication when the charge is done
battery cover is a joke. Bad fit and to thin
but overall the phone has worked very well.
But now I have another problem that is more annoying.
It looks like there is dirt/dust *under* the screen - I have checked the screen and there
are no marks on the screen surface. I have used the case that comes with the phone
from day one but that has not helped.
How many here has seen this ?  or am I the only one...
I can see the dust/dirt clearly when the screen saver is running, it is very annoying.
    Cheers,
     N. Muntz

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello,
As I previously had a 5310 "XpressMusic", very prone to dust under the screen, I am constantly watching this point on my 3 months old E72-1 (made in Finland, bought in Paris - France).
I always wear the E72 in jeans/shirt pockets without extra protection, so it is the worst possible situation.
I affirm that after 3 months of heavy usage there is ANY dust under the screen, nor under the camera window.
Under the exact same condition, the camera on the 5310 was almost unusable after 1 month, and its screen was innerly covered by dust after 2 months (but still visible and usable after 2 years, so don't worry).
But if you see too much dust under the screen, your unit could be defective as others (mine) don't have this default.

  • I spilled milk on  my IPhone - can see it running under the screen - what to do

I spilled milk on my IPhone - can see it running under the screen - what to do

There's nothing you can do about this other than live with it and hope that it doesn't damage the iPhone (likely that it will). If it does eventually fail, you'll need to take or send your iPhone to Apple and pay for a replacement.
    Regards.

  • IPhone 2G Bubbles under the screen

I have a 2G iPhone I purchused in January and I have three small spherical bubbles under the screen. I had a screen protector on and recently took it off and I noticed the bubbles. I have heard of people getting replacements but my real question is can I still get a 2G iPhone replacement from an apple store even though they only sell 3G iPhones now?

was this done in store? I am going to the Charlotte Apple store tonight or tomorrow night for this very purpose. thanks.

  • Newton ring under the screen

Hi, I notice that under the LCD screen of my iphone, there are a few newton rings circling around each other. at first I thought this is from the screen protector (between the protector and the screen), but i took off the protector and realized it is under the screen. The surface of the screen looks fine to me, since it has been protected since I bought it....
Have anyone had the same problem? Do you guys think Apple will take care of this?? Thanks.

My iphone gets backed up every time I dock it to my mac. (At least that is what iTunes says anyway).
When I got the replacement phone, the genius at the Apple store swapped out my sim card from my old phone over to the replacement one and it automatically activated itself.
When I got home and connected it, I was prompted with a question if this was a "new" iphone or a "replacement". I chose replacement and it automatically did a resync and all my data was put back.
    Good Luck.
