Dave: I did the Microsoft Update two days before this happened, and rebooted as required. I just created a new restore point and lauched Creative Cloud. Now I get the famous white screen:
It just sits and spins (been 10 minutes now).
Fortunately, I saved away this command (which I've had to use 4 or 5 times already):
del %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Adobe\OOBE\opm.db
Unfortunately now, I get this (even after closing the above window):
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
So I killed everything that said "Adobe" in the task manager and this time, the command succeeded.
Fortunately, the current apps seem to still work. I can't seem to find the "Creative Cloud" app in the applications on my system, but I launched Photoshop CC, told it to look for updates, and got a list of the 5 prgorams that need updates in the Adobe Application manager:

Tried that by shutting down via the power button only as the normal shutdown was nixed by the open window issue. It did not help. Found a very similar question in the discussions and it recommended "Force Quit". That worked and the update works normal and the window is gone. Thanks!

In options, checking a new tab instead of the default a new window. After shutdown & restart FireFox returns to the w/no check mark. Can I save the check mark?

After checking the box Firefox will then open new windows in a tab instead of a new window, However after a shutdown of the computer the check mark is gone and must be rechecked. hello gearjam, first of all it appears, that you're using an outdated version of firefox with various known security vulnerabilities - please [[Update Firefox to the latest version]] as soon as possible to stay safe while you browse the web.
regarding the problem you're observing, please make sure that no extension in firefox > addons > extension with the functionality to change tab settings is interfering here - or if this is not the case, go through the steps described in [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].

I install firefox normally, on my user id on Windows 7. But it won't open. It keeps saying 'Firefox is allready running but isn't answering. A new window can't be opened until all of firefox' processes have been shut down or the system rebootet.
This is a translation of the text as my user language is finnish.
I've also checked my fathers user id on this computer, there the firefox works, no problem.
I suspect the problem was born when I tried to take an old firefox backup into use. I think I did it wrong... Or, the backup was to old.

You can try to move the entire Firefox folder to a different location to make Firefox create a new file structure for the profile folder.

Is "Sync Apps" in the apps tab checked? If it is and they still won't sync, uncheck it then run a sync, then recheck it and run the sync again. If that doesn't help, on the phone itself, go to your app store, tap on updates, then go to purchased, and tap the cloud button next to them to redownload.

Mac Pro Performance Under Windows XP After SATA Fix

To those of you who have successfully performed the SATA "fix" please comment on the resultant "real world" performance when running various applications such as Photoshop, Microsoft Office, or any other used programs.
I would appreciate any comments. I'm waiting to pull the trigger on purchasing a Mac Pro since I have to have a well-functioning Windows system.

I recieved my MacPro today and after I booted the system to make sure everything was working I promptly installed a brand new WD SATA hard drive in the 2nd bay. I then installed boot camp 1.1 and formatted the entire 250 GB hard drive for Windows XP. I installed Windows from a slip streamed CD I had made previously from my DELL OEM disk with service pack 2 using only the SATA drivers and the Chipset drivers. Windows installed without any major problems, although once I installed the Apple drivers I had to manually install the audio drivers. The only real glitch so far is the eject button, it opens the superdrive but does not close it ( I have to push it in by hand).
I have installed Microsoft office and never have I seen PowerPoint load so fast. I have loaded some JPG's, the are quick to load as well. This is the standard configuration, 2.66, 1GB RAM, Stock video card etc. The only things added are Airport, Bluetooth, and the extra harddrive. I plan to test some more tommorrow, but so far I am pretty satisfied.

Blank Screen of Windows 7 after complete successful installation

I installed Windows 7 on my latest iMac using the SD card method without a hitch.
After installing the bootcamp drivers via windows the mac restarted to complete the installation but after the initial white boot up screen, the screen remains black.
I had previously installed parallels and started experiencing this problem after uninstalling it. So I decided to do a fresh install of Windows 7 but the problem still remains.

Bookmarks are there but nothing happens when you click on it, no information under properties, happened after going to firefox 4 then back to 3.6

I have the menu and all of my bookmark names are listed but when you click on them nothing happens. I right click and went to properties and nothing is filled in which explains why clicking on it does no good. Is there a backup of this information and how do I retrieve it. Windows XP Pro operating system. I have checked profiles and still only default user which is my only profile.

Brand new Lenovo computer, Windows 7 Home. New install of Firefox 6.0.1, set as default browser, don't launch when I click done. Icon appears in tray. I click the icon, and a message says "firefox is running but not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing process, or reboot". It's not obviously running. I can't find a way to make it quit. Task manager doesn't list it as a current application. Uninstall using the control panel uninstall function and then reinstalling gives the same message. Rebooting doesn't fix the problem and gives the same message. Firefox had been working until I tried to update my bookmarks.

No can do. I can delete the current profile and install Firefox, which should create a new blank profile. The message still says "Firefox is already running." I can place my old profile in the proper folder, and Firefox will still be already running. I can't actually use Firefox, because even though the message says it is running, there is nothing on the screen I can access.
After uninstalling Firefox, deleting the two items left in the Programs folder, and deleting the profile again, it still didn't work. I then got frisky and from the Roaming folder I deleted the Mozilla folder which contains the Firefox folder which contains the now empty Profiles folder. That worked, and a new set of folders with a new blank profile were created. So apparently it was the empty folders that never got deleted that were causing the issue.
