Underlined Ad Popups in Firefox

I have a site that works great in IE and seems to be fine with Firefox, but when a friend opened the site with Firefox, some of the text became underlined links for spam popup ads. Is this something I can KILL within my site or is it something to do with other peoples' browser settings? Thanks.

  • PDF popup, in FireFox, without being prompted

    Hello, I am using Windows XP Pro, SP3, fully patched and updated. My Adobe Reader is version 9.5.0. I am currently using FireFox 3.6.25, but this problem has been affecting my computer for the last year and a half, and happens with newer versions of FireFox, up to and including version 8. I downloaded a PDF file of an air compressor users manual and saved a copy to a folder on my desktop (where I store all of my PDF files).
    Now, whenever my FireFox browser is up and running, this PDF file will pop up every three hours, or so. It will initially pop up about ten minutes after the browser is started, and then about three hours after I close the reader program. It, neither the file, nor Adobe Reader, asks for permission to run, the PDF file, just comes up fully formed and running in Reader.
    I have search in my Reader preferences/options/setting and can’t find any setting, control, action, button or choice that allows me to stop this pop up behavior. I can move the file to another location on my “c” drive, move it to another hard drive altogether, or even rename it, all to no avail, the popup behavior remains.
    Is this a Adobe “problem”, or setting, a FireFox problem (as it only happens when the FireFox browser is running), or something else I am not aware off? Thanks for any help, in advance!!

    Hello Ankit, and thanks for help:
    This behavior only happens with this one PDF, no others, and I have hundreds saved to the same folder.
    Speak of the devil, as I was typing the first sentence of this email, it popped up. My FireFox browser is set to start when I boot my computer, and that happened about ten minutes ago.
    I rarely use IE and never use any other browser. When I do use IE it is only for those websites that still don't function properly with FireFox, and I generally get there via a FireFox add-on that opens a version of IE within the FireFox browser. Also on rare occasions, I will open IE directly to view my daughters school grades, again because that website doesn't handle FireFox properly. In any case, whenever I use IE, I only keep that tab or browser running for a very short period of time, just long enough to capture my data needs, generally less than five minutes, then shut it down,........ But, I don't recall this PDF behavior ever happening with the IE usage.

  • Popups on firefox not being blocked

    Last week I had a problem accessing my earthlink webmail with random popups on my vista desktop. Did a system restore and then accessed the same webmail from my xp laptop without problem. System restore fixed the desktop problem until this morning. Now I get the same problem on both my desktop and laptop machines. Had earthlink support connect to my computer to check the problem and it appears that firefox has been corrupted. The popup blocker has apparently been bypassed and ramdom popups redirect me away from the webmail. Accessing via internet explorer had no such issue. Before contacting earthlink, I did a system restore to a point where the system was not showing popups but the problem remained.
    IE does seem to have speed issues accessing the webmail but at least I don't get the popups that have returned to plague use of firefox on that site. I had an older version of firefox on the laptop and updated ti ver 31 and still have the popup issue so am at a loss to understand what happened.

    It is possible that there is something in the profile that is bypassing the popup blocker. It is possible to do a Firefox Reset from the about:support page.
    The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. <br>
    '''Note''': ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions and some Preferences.''
    *Open websites will not be saved in Firefox versions lower than 25.
    To Reset Firefox do the following:
    '''For Firefox 29.0 and above:'''
    #Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], click help [[Image:Help-29]] and select ''Troubleshooting Information''.Now, a new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    #At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Reset Firefox"[[Image:Button reset]]. Click on it.
    #Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
    #Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
    Further information can be found in the [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] article.

  • Why do i always get the "forsee survey popup" with Firefox ?- no add ons installed

    Every time i install firefox even on a brand new system, i always get these "Foresee survey" pop ups on the browser. It's not a seperate window popup, but rather a box that appears on the browser itself. I receive these pop ups when visiting websites like walmart, amazon and other websites where you can make purchases. I do not download any add ons on firefox nor do i have any viruses or spyware as this is a new system with nothing downloaded or installed but the stock apps and i have already run a full sys scan. I have noticed for the longest time i get these pop ups on every system i install firefox on and it only happens with the firefox browser. Does anyone know how i can stop these pop ups without having to install an add on to stop them? I find it unnecessary and a little intrusive to be receiving these pop ups. It means that there is some stock extension on firefox that tracks what websites i visit and thus triggers the pop up survey which leads me to be concerned about my privacy. This almost breaks my preference of the browser.

    That seems like your problem there - I'm guessing the http user can't access the /home/icefox/ path
    Hello , fukawi2
    Thanks for your help , you made me realized that , I did change the permission for /home/icefox directory.
    What I did for resolving this problem is , modify the /home/icefox permission , make icefox group can access this folder and add http user to icefox group , then , problem resolved.

  • Unresponsive Script errors popups in Firefox 14.01

    Since upgrading from Firefox 13.01 to 14.01, Firefox is taking a long time to launch and I am receiving multiple unresonsive script error popups when it tries to launch. I have the same extensions installed that I had in 13.01 and all are compatible with 14.01. Again this issue ONLY started when upgrading to 14.01. I have tried to determine what extension is the problem and turn it off, however when I launch Firefox again, another unresonsive script error popup occurs with a different extension. I'll remove that one and it popups again about a another different one. This is crazy! I have even tried a complete clean install, with no luck. What is the problem?

    I use Roboform and the first unresponsive script error popup is about Roboform. Their tech support just emailed me about an hour ago and ask if I had Trusteer Rapport installed on my system (https://www.trusteer.com/product/trusteer-rapport) and I said yes. They instructed me to Stop Rapport, which is a setting Rapport has, and relaunch Firefox 14.01 and see if the unresponsive script error popup returns and it did not! They then told me to do a complete uninstall (all user settings) and re-download Trusteer Rapport from their website and install again and see if the unresponsive script error popup returns. They said it should not. However after doing a clean reinstall of Trusteer Rapport, however the popups came back :(
    I emailed Trusteer about this issue and I am waiting for a response. Roboform tech support responded after I told them it did not work by saying only that they are aware of the issue with Trusteer Rapport with nothing more said in their email.
    I only know that Trusteer Rapport is a MUST HAVE security software and I have had it for years and it has never caused problems and that the version of Roboform I have is current and was the SAME version that was installed when using Firefox 13.01 and Roboform did not cause these popups in 13.01
    So, this evening, I did another clean uninstall of Trusteer Rapport AND a clean uninstall of Roboform and relaunched Firefox 14.01 and the only unresponsive script error popups where from another add-on extension called WorldIP. No other popups occurred.
    With that being said, I can say that Firefox 14.01 is causing issues and this needs to be fixed asap.
    Thoughts?

    When u click on a picture that loads the popup that Facebook has recently introduced on occasion Firefox just hangs and becomes unresponsive and has to be closed by using task manager. It doesn't happen every time say for every 2 out of 10.

  • Savenow popups in Firefox

    Hello,
    I'm using Firefox 16.0.2 and recently I've been getting popups from savenow at the buttom right of the windows everytime I get on a web site like costo, newegg and such. I'm not sure how i got infected but I want to find a way to get rid of them. I've found nothing in my Firefox extensions/ add-ons that were out of the ordinary.
    I will update my java just in case it's related to that but I'm out of idea.
    Any help is welcome.
    Thanks,
    Josue

    Updating java might have fix my problem. I will come back here if it didn't fix the problem. If you're having the same issue you may want to update your java as well by going in Menu/Tools/Addons and click at the top on "check to see if your plugins are up to date". Let me know if it fixed it for you guys as well.
    Thanks,
    Josue

  • A week ago Firefox crashed and since then will not run on my computer. At first when I clicked on Icon on desktop a popup said Firefox was already running, but where was it? I couldn't find it anywhere. I uninstalled Firefox and downloaded Firefox 9.0.1.

  • Modal Popups in Firefox

    Hi,
    I've found this thread for modal popups: TIP: Building Modal Popup Windows
    I've the following javascript code:
    function newCategory()
         var url = 'f?p=' + html_GetElement('pFlowId').value + ':12:' +
                                html_GetElement('pInstance').value + ':MASTERDATA_REGION:CATEGORY';
         if (window.showModalDialog)
             showModalDialog(url, window.self,"dialogWidth:50; dialogHeight:20");
              show_Tab1();
           else
                 w = window.open(url, "","width=500,height=200", modal="yes");
              w.focus();
              show_Tab1();
    }It's working fine in IE, so it opens the popup and when the popup is closed it executes the show_Tab1()-function. In FF it's ignoring the 'modal' attribute and executes show_Tab1(), immedialtely after opening the popup.
    I don't have any return values, I only want to have executed the function show_Tab1(), when the popup is closed. Can this be realized somehow?
    Thanks
    chrissy

    Hi Vikas,
    When running my application in IE, and opening the opoup with showModalDialog, I can't interact with the main window until I close the popup.
    ...what is the rationale behind this?
    i.e. why would you like to stop execution until the
    popup is closed?I'm having a region in my page, that's pulled by AJAX, because I don't like the refresh of the whole page, when I only want to change the view. I think you know this, I've the code from Carl (http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=11933:48).
    In this page I've a button, which opens the popup, where the user can create new entries for the report. Closing the popup with a given button, will insert the provided data into the table. After this my report on the main page should be updated (that's what my function show_Tab1() is doing). Because of this I'd like to stay the popup at the top until the user added the data or canceled it and stop execution of code, because this is the only why I can see to start my function show_Tab1(), when popup is closed (please see code provided before).
    chrissy

    It is best not to modify files in the Firefox program folder.
    You can lock the pref browser.shell.checkDefaultBrowser to false or create a file user.js in the default template folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\profile) to set the pref to false.
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locking_preferences<br />
