Understanding grouped contact syncing and merging

New to iPads here. I have a personal Gmail account for my friends and family that syncs to my ipad.
Now I have a second Gmail account for a volunteer organization with all the members. What I would like is a way to keep each of my 2 Google account contacts synced separately- not merge them between accounts. I can't figure out what will happen.
What will happen if I turn on the Contacts for the Volunteer Gmail account? Will the iPad's auto-sync merge my Personal Google contacts with my Volunteer Google contacts? I do NOT want all the contacts merged (synced) between both of the accounts.
I want to keep my personal Google contacts synced with my personal Google account and my volunteer contacts synced with my volunteer Google account.
TIA

Setup both accounts and they will remain as separate accounts. They will not merge.
Although both sets of contacts will appear in the Contacts app, they will stay separate.
It's not actually possible to merge contacts from multiple accounts, so there's no worry that that may happen. Although you can choose to view all contacts together in the Contacts app.

I've been waiting for this forever! I downloaded the new version this morning, and can't find anything in the user manual or in the Apple topics about how to do this......... can anyone help?
From Macworld review.... "A photographer with a MacBook Pro on a remote photo shoot can start with a fresh library and import it into his or her master library upon returning home. More impressively, Aperture will sync and merge libraries: photographers can export a portion of their libraries to a laptop, take it on the road to do work, and then bring that library back home. Aperture will detect what’s changed and sync only the changes back to the master library."

  • Sync and merge clips, proper ways and tips please

    Hi
Im working on a indie feature and need help with sync and merging clips. So far from my trials Premiere doesn't really sync that well based on audio (plus it doesn't seem to sync more then one set of clips at a time), luckily I have Pluraleyes that syncs in a breeze so that's what I'm using. So, my questions:
    1) How do I merge more then one set of clips simultaneously. Look at my timeline. This is from only 3 days of shooting (and we've shoot for 33 days). It will take me forever to merge these...
    2) How do I merge clips so they end up in a specific bin in the project panel. Now when I do it the new merged clip ends up at root which is manageable but annoying.
Can someone confirm if this is actually how you work, very laborious or am I missing something?
    Thanks!

I'm dealing with the same issue, and would love to know how you've solved this problem, assuming that you kept this same workflow going.

  • Calendar and group contacts sync when hosted by Lion Server

When Lion server shares group contacts or calendar, can a user sincronize it's iPhone (or other iOs device) with this shared data?
I've made one try but without success....
    Thank You

Did you get any feedback about your question? If this works, I would like to attempt something similar for one of our users.
    Thanks

  • Contacts Sync and Turning Off Contacts

    iPhone 5, latest iOS
iTunes and iPhone set for WiFi sync and both are logged into iCloud.
PROBLEM:  Changes to iPhone contacts never seem to sync.  When I attempt to turn off Contacts under iPhone, choosing to keep contacts on phone, I receive a message that it's "Turning Off Contacts ...".
This never goes away, and I have to for the Contacts app to quit.
Any ideas on how I can fix this issue?

    Thanks for the quick reply.
So, followed your suggestions.  First thing I noticed was that after deleting data from iPhone, contacts were still on my iPhone.  Not sure how to delete contacts all at once, so that's another question.
Second, I logged back in to iCloud after deleting the iCloud account as you recommended.  After doing so, I turned Contacts back on ... and it started ... and asked to Merge which I did.  No joy.
I did back up from MacBook Air Contacts app first, but it appears I am confused about iCloud and On My Mac.
I now show no iCloud contacts even though I've now reimported the backup contacts into my laptop's Contacts.
Unless iCloud is way way behind in syncing at the moment, I have nothing in iClould contacts now.

  • Contact syncing and Groups in MacOS address book app

I have my iPhone set to only sync certain groups from my Address Book to the phone, not "all". When I add a new contact via the iPhone there's no way to designate which group it goes into so every now and then I have to do into the Address Book app and try to figure out which ones aren't in the correct group and fix them.
Is there any way I can assign contact groups via the iPhone?
    thanks,

  • IPhone syncing and merging

I recently upgraded to iTunes 9 and the iTunes on my Macbook no longer recognizes the iPhone. I would like to replace the music on the iPhone, but I need to be able to transfer my purchased Apps that are on the iPhone to iTunes. I also need to keep my notes, contacts, and calendar that are on my iPhone and not on iTunes. It would also be nice to keep my text messages. I'm currently backing up the iPhone as it is now without syncing it, and I know I can merge the calendar dates (or at least I could on an older iTunes version) but what do I do about the rest?

The restore did not allow iTunes to recognize it considering it restored it to a point where iTunes did not recognize it. I do not have a very recent backup of the iPhone. Even if I had a back up from a day ago it would still not recognize the phone because iTunes 9 deleted my entire library and I had to reload everything, making it seem like it was a different library. If Apple would just allow Authorized Computers to MERGE data with the authorized iPhone, then I wouldn't be in the predicament. Oh, and I wouldn't even have to do that if Apple had properly tested the update before sending it out. There is always something Apple manages to screw up in its updates.

  • Evaluate, Time Sync, and merge 2 arrays into 1

I have two separate text files I am reading in to be processed within
Labview. I read these two files in and convert them each into 2D
arrays. What I need to do is to evaluate these files and syncronize
times which are in the first column line by line. If they are
syncronized then I need to merge them into one array. Here is an
example of where I am at.
    1st array
    20-Feb-04 10:23:02 32.543 54.654
    20-Feb-04 10:24:04 33.564 34.765
    2nd array
    20-Feb-04 10:23:57 45.543 24.654
    20-Feb-04 10:24:56 71.564 22.765
How can I do this? I am sure there is some simple solution, I just
can't find it. The other thing that I need to do is this. Sometimes
    the
times match in the same column, but are just off by the seconds.
    Here is an example:
    20-Feb-04 10:23:04 45.543 24.654
    20-Feb-04 10:23:54 71.564 22.765
I need to throw out the second one. Basically I need to ignore the
seconds and just look at the hour and minute. I am trying to figure
out if I simply can evaluate each file, look for duplicates and delete
the second one, or compare them against each other. Any help would be
appreciated. Here are the files also to show you what I have thus
    far.

    Hello,
I quickly created an .llb that contains the vi's you would need to perform these operations. From your description above, I took the two arrays that you have created, removed duplicates (hour/minute matching), and then appended the data from the second array to the corresponding data in the first array, based on the time stamp. I have included comments in these vi's to help you understand the algorithms I used. Also, in order to do the time stamp comparison, I just took the two times as strings, removed the seconds, and compared those values. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions! Good luck!

  • Trying to send an email to a group contact(Newspapers) and get error message telling me they are not properly framed?

The address "<"Bay Times" [email protected]>" in the "To" field was not recognized. Please make sure that all addresses are properly formed

Don't know if this will work for AOL, but here's how I solved the problem last night: I stopped using the 2nd SMTP info, and only used the first one (alphabetically). It would appear to this layman that the iPhone doesn't like logging into an SMTP server with two sets of credentials. So, when you try to do it with the second account, it just chokes.
Here's step-by-step as to how I did it:
    1 - Settings
    2 - Mail, Contacts, Calendars
3 - Under Accounts, select the second account that uses the same SMTP server
    4 - Outgoing Mail Server > SMTP
5 - Change Primary Server to Off (assuming this is the SMTP with this account's login credentials)
6 - Under Other SMTP Servers, change the duplicate SMTP server to ON
I had no problems after this and was immediately able to send an email from that account.

  • IPhone to Outlook Contacts Sync

Would love to be able to have my iPhone Contacts sync to Outlook contacts, NOT the other way around. [The first time I tried it, it wiped out my iPhone contacts and put the old Outlook ones back in.]
Now, I see some improvement in the updated versions of iTunes, but I simply have no idea what the WARNING Screen is trying to tell me -- something about more than 5% of the contacts will be changed, etc, etc...CHANGED WHERE? My iPhone or my Outlook?
It would be so much easier if we had a choice to sync Outlook to iPhone or iPhone to Outlook without wiping either database. Is that too difficult to do?
    Anyone have a solution? Thanks!

The sync process for contacts with the supported application on your computer is a bi-directional or true sync process.
If the supported application on your computer has contact info and your iPhone doesn't, the contact info with the supported application on your computer will be transferred to your iPhone with the first sync and be kept synchronized afterwards with following syncs.
If the supported application on your computer does not include any contact info and your iPhone does, your iPhone will be erased of all contacts with the first sync.
If the supported application on your computer includes contact info and you have manually added contacts to your iPhone, you should be provided a merge prompt with the first sync, which should be selected. After the initial sync and merge, contacts will be kept synchronized with following syncs.
iTunes includes an option to replace contacts on your iPhone with the contacts in the supported application on your computer. After doing this, contacts will be kept synchronized with following syncs. There is no option to replace contacts in the supported application on your computer with your iPhone contacts.

  • Contact sync difficulties

I recently began having problems with my iP4 after installing the latest iOS6. My last resort was doing a restore, when I did there was over 5G of "other" suggesting corrupt files, so I went and did a new iPhone restore. I had everything backed up on my MacBook so I felt secure doing so.
Everything except my CONTACTS has successfully transferred over. I have tried syncing with and without my iCloud contacts on and Im still getting nowhere. I can see my computer still has all my contact info, but no luck in getting that info onto my phone. When I click the box in iTunes to replace contacts on my phone (of which there are NONE) with the contacts on "this computer" nothing will transfer.

  • How to I make Gsync my primary contact sync solution

I used to use Outlook and BB Desktop for syncing data from Outlook to the BB.  I do not use Outlook anymore and have my contacts in Gmail.  Gsync has worked perfectly until I needed to connect my BB to the desktop app for a backup and ever since Gsync tells me the BB desktop controls the contact sync and Gynsc will not work.
How do I disable the BB desktop sync on my BB to allow Gsync to do its job?

    Hi there!
Here's one KB...sounds dangerous to me:

You'd probably  be better off just going into the DTM configuration screens and turning off everything that is activated for desktop sync...

I have my contacts synced with icloud and exchange. I want all of them to be synced via icloud, I have tried turning contacts off and then clicking merge but that doesn't copy all of them over. How do I transfer all contacts onto my phone and then icloud?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If you can't do this on a computer, which would be much easier using drag and drop, then you will need to share the contacts with yourself in order to move them to the iCloud account.

  • What do I do about contacts and groups not synced from iPhone to iCloud?

I've been syncing my contacts with my Mac (Snow Leopard, not Lion) via iTunes for years now. It's worked well enough, but I don't sync with my Mac that often (typically weeks between syncs), so I've worried a little bit about losing data entered on my iPhone before it gets on my Mac.
Before: Mac <-iTunes contacts sync-> iPhone
A week or so ago I backed up contacts, calendars and my whole iPhone (and my Mac) then upgraded my iPhone to iOS 5. It took a while (hours) but seemed to work.
Then I set up iCloud contact syncing.
    What I intended: Mac <-iTunes contacts sync-> iPhone <-iCloud contacts sync-> iCloud
After setting up iCloud contact sync, the trouble began.
I looked at my iPhone contacts and saw that instead of the half dozen groups they were organized into before, they were all in one iCloud group. I found I could make new groups and assign contacts to them on iCloud and they'd sync, but I'm not interested in redoing work organizing hundreds of contacts that iOS and iCloud lost for me.
Shortly I discovered that some contacts were just missing. Poof. Gone after the iCloud sync.
I've hesitated before syncing with my Mac again. I don't want to have the messed up groups and the deleted contacts propogate back to my Mac.
I've also hesitated because I don't see a way to disable iTunes contact syncing before actually plugging in my iPhone — the options for managing what gets synced only seem to appear when the iPhone is connected, and sync starts automatically.
    Suggestions for how to proceed?
    Thanks!

I found out how to disable automatic syncing:
In the device’s Summary pane, you can set iTunes to automatically sync your device when it’s attached to your computer. To temporarily override this setting, hold down Command and Option (Mac) or Shift and Control (PC) until you see your iPhone appear in the sidebar.
I'm still looking for suggestions about how to proceed to get contacts with groups synced.
    Thanks again!
