Understanding iPAD VGA adaptors

Hi All,
I got into a very embarrasing situation where we wanted to show an ipad app to 40 participants which did not work.  I was using the apple VGA adaptor.
I tried it with iPAD1 and it did not work at all and then I tried it with an iPAD2 and it works only 2 out of 10 times.
I will need to do a roadshow where I will need to use my iPAD1 to display the app over the LCD projectors over VGA and wanted to find if there is a possibility to make it work flawlessly.  Please let me know if there are any limitations with iPAD1 and if it will flawlessly with iPAD2 or iPAD3.
Please help.
Thanks

The ipad1 will only show apps that are specifically designed for VGA display.
The newer iPads should show all apps through a VGA display, except for some where that capability was deliberately removed by the developer (generally media providers).

  • Output iPad video to 27" iMac using iPad VGA adaptor?

Hi, I was wondering is it possible to Output iPad video to 27" iMac as an external monitor using iPad VGA adaptor?
    Thx.

No.  The VGA adaptor is an analog connection and the only inputs are digital Mini Display / Thunderbolt ports depending on your model.  It maybe possible with a conversion box of some sort or maybe trying an HDMI to mini display port cable ($44.95) and an iPad 2.  The 27' should be able to be used as a second display but the 21 is not.  If you have the iPad 2, pick up the cable and the HDMI adapter and try it out.  If not, return the cables within two weeks.

  • IPad VGA Adaptor

Will the VGA adaptor display everything that you see on the iPad, onto a screen/projector? Or is it set to only display certain apps?
For example, I have CineXplayer, which I use to view Xvid and DivX clips - will I be able to play these back on my HDTV via the VGA adaptor?

Thanks for your thoughts, I new the specs when I bought it but was hoping it could up convert the video on the fly. Why is the wide screen setting in the video settings there? I guess that is for the component cable only.
Here is Apples add for it and they don't list the specs on this page which I think is very misleading, and just go look at all the unhappy customer reviews. They should make it clear on this page what the limitations are.
    Overview
Use the iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter to connect an iPad to your television, projector, or VGA display. Then see your videos and slideshows on the big screen.
The iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter connects to your iPad or iPad Dock via the dock connector and to your projector or display using the VGA adapter.*
    What's in the Box
    * iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter
    * Supports landscape mode only.
Quicktime videos are able to make a 16:9 video fit a 16:10 monitor without distorting the picture and filling the screen while already upconverting the video to fit a much higher resolution monitor like my 30inch apple display, so I am pretty sure they could do this with the vga adapters video output by up converting the video on output.
The ipad can play 720p video which is being downconverted on the fly to fit the ipads screen screen at 576i or 480i if your using the component video cable. This seems odd to me that the only output the ipad can do is lower res than the videos it can playback, like a computer with a video card which is what the ipad is, it should be able to upconvert but instead it down converts only. So if it can down convert on the fly it should be able to do the opposite.
The only thing the vga adapter is good for is a projector that has vga resolution. It also has the problem of the adapter slipping out of dock connection if you do not have it in just right and leave it lying flat on a table. I would hate to be doing a presentation for a large crowd having the vga adapter pop out when I go to pick up the ipad to start the next video which it does very easily unlike all the usb power cables that fit nice and snug.
As far as your Hollywood comment I find that a bit silly. I will be able to watch any purchased stuff with the new apple tv streaming from my ipad to any monitor the apple tv is connected to, but not with the lower res vga adapter....very silly indeed! That is also not stated in the add for the vga adpater. They should have a star* and say purchased videos from itunes cannot be played with this device. Most the people that bought it were hoping it could output to a wide screen tv and be able to play their purchased content. Apples add is very misleading and just go look at all the unhappy customers. They should make it clear on the add page what the limitations are including the fact that it cannot play itunes purchased videos.
I will try to sell it as soon as my apple tv comes in.

  • VGA adaptor help!

Help, I accidentaly connected my PC Video out to my ipad vga adaptor while setting up a video splitter and now the VGA adaptor doesn't work, did I burn up the adaptor?

  • Is there any Vga adaptor for the Ipad 2 that is VIDEO IN rather than OUT?

Is there any Vga adaptor for the Ipad 2 that is VIDEO IN rather than VIDEO OUT? is for a student with visual impairment who needs to view the classroom digital board content from a very short distance, like the distance to an Ipad for example, so the Ipad would be ideal as an interactive monitor with typography and content easy to amplify.
At the moment, this student has a traditional flat screen monitor taking over the table next to him, so no other child can seat in it, and he has no opportunity to befriend and sporadically joke with anybody else. So much for "inclusion".

  • IPad mini says the 30 pin VGA adaptor is not supported

I bought a 30 pin VGA adaptor, in the apple store. When I plug the adaptor into the iPad mini I get a pop up that says "device not supported by iPad"

If you mean you're using this:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD823ZM/A/lightning-to-30-pin-adapter?fnode=3a
    with this:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC552ZM/B/apple-vga-adapter
You can't. As it says on the first page (emphasis mine), "This adapter lets you connect devices with a Lightning connector to many of your 30-pin accessories.* Supports analog audio output, USB audio, as well as syncing and charging. Video output not supported." You need the Lightning to VGA adapter.
If that's not what you mean, please post back and clarify what it is you are using and attempting to accomplish.
    Regards.

  • HT1657 Using a VGA adaptor with iPad 1 for iTunes movie rentals?

I have an iPad 1 with a VGA adaptor to display supported apps on external displays like YouTube and GoodReader. I tried to use this with a rented SD movie from iTunes and I got a warning along the lines of  "output device not supported for protected material." Is there a way to do play iTunes rentals on an external display from the iPad? This is simple on a MacBook.
    Thanks,
    RSR

Can I play my rental on more than one device?
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.
    Cheers,

  • IPad 3.2.1 update will no longer let me use the apple iphone VGA adaptor?

Has anyone else have this problem. I was using the apple iphone VGA adaptor I purchased from apple for $49 on my iPad, but since the update I can no longer use it? I dont know if anyone else is having this problem, I don't know if Apple purposely put an update to force you to purchase the "iPad VGA Connector", but if they did thats just plain messed up.

Welcome to this forum. This is a BT domestic customer to customer help forum, any messages posted here do not go to BT.
Can you try the modem plugged directly into the master socket without any ADSL filters. You will lose your broadband connection during the test, but it will eliminate any problem with the BT Home hub, or the microfilter.
ADSL does not start until 30kHz, which is well above the range that an analogue modem works at.

  • Will ios 5 enable video mirroring of photos through the vga adaptor on ipad 1

Will ios 5 enable video mirroring of photos through the vga adaptor on ipad 1?

"the graphics hardware in the iPad 1 doesn't provide proper support for mirroring the screen."
Actually it does.  I JB'd my iPad for the sole purpose of VGA mirroring and it works GREAT, but I'd rather not have to JB with ios 5.  It obviously works, Apple sells a VGA adapter.  What is the big problem with making this happen.

  • Ipad not connecting to VGA adaptor

I have VGA adaptor I use connect my Ipad 2 to a data projector.
Suddenly, it doesn't seem to work any more.
My iphone and other ipads connect, but not the Ipad so the problem is with the ipad.
    Other than that, I'm stumped!

I think the docking port or plug is dirty; try plugging and unplugging it a few times; it should work again.

  • Having problems with my VGA adaptor for iPad.

I bought the VGA adaptor for iPad from BB the other day, and when it arrived, I could not get it to work with my iPad (iPad 1 with latest OS). I tried adjusting settings on my monitor (I'm using it with my second computer monitor, a 24" AOC brand), but I could not get anything to display. I tried plugging it into my new iPhone 4S, and it worked flawlessly with every application. I then tried using it with my new iPod Touch, with latest OS installed, and it would not do anything either. So I have this adaptor for iPad, and it works with my iPhone 4S, but not my iPad or iPod Touch. Does anyone out there have any answers or suggestions?
    Thank you for your time...

    JCinINDY-
The iPad 1 only sends video to the adapter when a slideshow or a video is playing.  You can not see the normal iPad 1 display on a VGA screen.  It does not support "mirroring" the way an iPhone 4S will.
That said, it is possible you have a bad connector on the iPad 1.  If you can take it to an Apple Store Genius, they should be able to verify whether or not it is working correctly.

  • Which mini DVI to VGA adaptor?

I have an 800MHz flat screen with a broken display.
I have an old monitor with a VGA cable, but I can't find the correct cable to connect between the iMac and the VGA plug.
I have a mini dvi to VGA adaptor, but it's not correct in that the mini DVI end is female on both the computer and the adaptor chord I have ):
Can someone point me to the correct adaptor cable?
    Thanks,
    Luke

    Hey Luke,
What you need is the mini VGA to VGA adapter like here:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/M8639G/A?fnode=MTY1NDA3Ng&mco=MzI3MTYx#overvie w
If you buy it at the Apple store make sure they understand that that's the adapter you need and for what machine you need to use it on. Then if they give you the wrong one you can take it back.
On a separate tack I had a problem with the socket on a 800 17" that had come off the logic board. Symptom was no video no picture but worked fine with external adapter (mine had to be jiggled a bit to get it to work). I just sent it to Superior Reball to have it resoldered. Cost $51 plus shipping one way. That would take someone knowledgeable to take the iMac apart.

  • I have purchased VGA adaptor & HDMI adaptor to connect ipAd1 to a TV - it will not.  Help please

I have purchased VGA adaptor & HDMI adaptor to connect ipAd1 to a TV - it will not.  Help please

Only certain apps that had this feature added will show from an original iPad to a video out - whether VGA or HDMI. It does not have true mirroring, like the iPad2 does.

  • Using MBA 11 with VGA adaptor

I have just replaced my ageing, white iBook G4 with a MBA 11. Most of my time is spent hauling this faithful old trooper all over town and giving presentations by plugging it into all sorts of VGA projectors and/or big LCD/Plasma screens, so I decided to give my collar bone a break.
I just did my first presentation using the MBA (plus VGA adaptor), and had concerns about the on-screen image. I might be imagining it, but the image on the screen seemed less punchy and bright than that of my old iBook? Can this be possible? Also, the number of display resolution options in Display preferences has increased - including new ones that include the word "stretched" after them.
How do I know in each case, which is the best resolution for my MBA and each projector or monitor that I hook into?
Can anyone give me a steer, please?
PS: I hear a lot of whining about the lack of a backlit keyboard being a deal-breaker from would-be owners. I've just turned the room lights off and can see every key perfectly in the reflected light from the MBA screen.

The description of the iPad 2 says it mirrors with the Digital AV cable and the VGA cable since release:
    Video mirroring.
See it here. See it there.
Video mirroring for iPad is great for every app, web page, presentation, video, movie, or photo you want to show a big audience. Just plug in the Apple Digital AV Adapter or Apple VGA Adapter (sold separately) and your HDTV or projector becomes a bigger version of your iPad. One plug, that’s it. Or you can wirelessly stream what’s on your iPad with AirPlay Mirroring and Apple TV. Everyone sees what’s on yourdisplay — even when you rotate iPad from portrait to landscape or zoom in and out.
