Understanding the display

Your SmartBand Talk features an E Ink® display that uses electronic ink technology to reproduce the appearance of ordinary ink on paper. In an E Ink® display, no backlight is used. Instead, ambient light from the environment is reflected from the surface of the display, making it more comfortable to read. The image on your E Ink® screen is retained even when power to the screen is turned off. Also note that when the content displayed on the screen changes, there is a brief transition time. This is normal E Ink® display behavior. Some content from the previous screen may still be present in the background of the new screen, this is known as "ghosting". During a special transition sequence, the screen will change from white to black and back to white, on the screen every now and then the "ghosting" will be removed.

hmm I have a feeling I need to take a few steps back and restructrue my code a little bit.
This whole addChild and display list stuff is quite different than coding for as2.
thank you as always.

  • The display was working just fine and now it seems it darkened. I can barely see what is displayed in the screen and can't understand what's going on.

    I can't understand why all of a sudden the display on my computer got all darkened, and I have to tilt the computer to barely see what I'm writing or the icons. I tried the brightening the screen but it didn't work so I'm concerned on what's going on....

    Well there are two or three causes of eyestrain with displays different people seem to have.
    1: Small type/UI elements
    2: Glossy screens
    3: Flicker rate
    1:
    The higher pixel rate combined with the display set at the higher resolution is going to cause UI and type to be smaller and harder to see. In fact it's advised to set OS X to a lower resolouton so it upscales better to match the pixel of the higher display.
    Reports coming in say watching HD 1920 x 1080 trailers on the anti-glare 17" is best as the pixel content matches the display almost fullscreen, where on the MBP-R it's upscaled and thus looks blurry.
    HD content makers are NOT going to change all their video cameras to support 2880 x 1800 full screen, so in order to get a clearer image playing HD 1080 content, one will have to do so in a smaller window.
    2:
    The new MBP-R dispalys are 75% less glossy, but not 100% less glossy like the anti-glare models so this can still cause some people problems. This can be lowered to under 1%, however I'm suspecting to do so would be considered giving up a military advantage to China where Apple gets it products made.
    3:
    I don't know about the flicker rate if it's better or not on the MBP-R's than the previous screens.

  • Understanding the way to connect a MDD to BlackMagic Decklink Extreme card

    Hi,
    I require some help in the following:
    I recently bought myself a Blackmagic DeckLink Extreme™ with 10bit SDI/analog video and audio capture card.
    Looking at the specs, http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/sd/specs/, can someone give me directions as to the best setup I can do from the following sources and what other equipment I may require to achieve it.
    - mono stereo audio VHS -> has 1 video/audio in and 1 video/audio out (composite connections)
    - stereo audio video camera -> has 1 8 pin S-Video out port to composite connections (Hi8 tape type)
    - DVD player -> has composite 2 x 2ch stereo audio out, 1 x 5.1ch stereo audio out, 2 x video out, 1x component video out, 2 x S-video out, 2 x digital audio out; 1 x RCA/OPT
    - 2 x 23" monitors connected by ADC and DVI connections to a Apple MDD G4, may relay to 60" Plasma for video monitoring from video card prior to creating DVD final piece for playback.
    Basically, I wanted to have multiple source inputs and outputs, but I'm having difficulty in understanding the setup. Please refer to http://www.blackmagic-design.com/downloads/connections/decklinkdiagram.pdf page 5/6.
    I purchased the following from JayCar
    - 6 x PA3655 ADPT PLG RCA:

    One option is to purchase a hard drive (say, a 2TB Hitachi G-Technology drive) and connect it to the USB port on the back of the Apple Extreme. The other option is to purchase a drive with an ethernet connection (say, a 2TB Lacie drive) and connect it to an ethernet port on the Apple Extreme.
    In the second case what you'd have actually is a NAS. Apple's AirPort routers aren't known for fast file sharing. The NAS option might be faster.
    Is either option better for streaming movies from the hard drive to my Apple TV?
    I could be wrong, but an AppleTV may not be able to access content directly from a network drive. It may require that a Mac serve as an intermediary.

  • Help! I don't understand the frame mechanics.

    Hi, I've been trying to figure out how frames work in Flash.  I'm new to ActionScript, so I don't know the inner workings of the language.  I tried checking the API but no Frame class is listed.  The closest thing was FrameLabel and that wasn't helpful.  I need to know a few things:
    1) How can I tell what frame I am in?  If there is a class method for this, what is the exact name?
    2) How does a frame advance?  I have some code with no timer, only event listeners/handlers, and I've got a hacked animation working without playing clips on the time line.  The displayed pictures change whenever I press a directional button to move the character.  This is not really what I want to do however, because I'm switching the visibility of many different symbols and updating their position according to the original player symbol.  Very inefficient.  And does that mean that the frame only advances when a button is pressed? Am I even advancing the frame at all?  I don't know any frame advance method.
    3) How do frames work on the time line?  I have all of my symbols on a single frame.  I made their visibility false in my constructor because I don't want some things to show when I first load up the .swf file.  When I created a second frame, everything went crazy and things began to show up.  This suggests that the visibility = false was only done in the first frame?  What caused the frame to change?  I don't really get it.
    Ideally I want to achieve a dynamically modifiable animation because the game actions are not going to be linear.  The player character will be responding to controls (which will change the animation) and the AI will be responding to the player (which will also change the animation).  I don't think I can do this without understanding frames, so please help me.  I'm very confused!  Even pointing me in the right direction as to where I can read about frame details would be cool.  I've tried Adobe tutorials, support, and documentation but it was not sufficient.  Is there any place where there is a very in depth explanation about frames, or would someone be so kind as to tutor me about them?
    Thanks in advance.

    You can find out the current frame by using the currentFrame property. There are a number of ways to change frames, where the most common would be prevFrame(), nextFrame(), play(), gotoAndPlay(), and gotoAndStop().  There are plenty of ways to make use of frames in a Flash file, from having linear animations along the timeline, to have each frame being a distinct zone of operation that contains elements having their own timelines.
    One thing you may need to get a handle on are the different types of frames.  There are plain frames and there are keyframes.  Plain frames genrally involve a continuation of preceding frames, while keyframes mark an area of change.  In your example of things going crazy when you added a second frame, I am guessing you implanted a new keyframe because had you inserted a plain frame the status of your content from frane 1 would not have been impacted.
    I don't know of any resources for you to follow up with for learning more about frames--I came to learn them thru trial and error.  Someone else may come along with some suggestions for reference materials.

    Next time, prefix with APPS. when you show us the explain plan:
    SQL> explain plan for
      2  select
      3  * from apps.po_lines;  -- added the prefix of owner.Just like you prefixed with PO. when you showed us the query on PO_LINES_ALL. It ensures that you are using the synonym which you showed us.
    Btw. PO_LINES_ALL, could still be a VIEW given your overview of the situation.
    Anyway a filter "NULL IS NOT NULL" is indicative that the optimizer performed something called semantic query optimization (SQO).
    SQO is the process of deducing new predicates based upon a) existing predicates in your query (which there is none), b) added predicates to your query (eg. by a VPD policy function), and c) declared constraints on the tables invovled in your query.
    A typical example of when a "NOT is NOT NULL" predicate will show up is when for instance in the EMP table there is a declared constraint on EMPNO like this:
    check(EMPNO > 0)And your query would hold a predicate that is inconsistent with the constraint, for instance like this:
    select *
    from EMP
    where EMPNO <= 0Oracle will deduce that EMPNO cannot be both greater than zero (constraint) as well as smaller than or equal to zero (your query predicate), and will transform the query into:
    select *
    from EMP
    where EMPNO <= 0
      and NULL is NOT NULLThus preventing accessing the EMP table all together, and immediately returning this query with no data found.

  • The display Screen of my iPod touch is appearing complete White.

    Hi All,
    Few days before i have attach my iPod touch to my laptop throgh data/charging code provided by apple.
    The dispaly screen is appearing complete white.
    Some time in past i have a same screen problemI It appeared white or some horizantal or vertical lines are displayed.
    But it will resolve immediately as i did shut down and shup up 2 to 3 times.
    But this time is has a serious problem.It is appearing complete white.
    Not a single word is appearing after start up and before shutting.
    Though the screen is white but the sound system is working properly.
    I have tested it with my imagination which icon will appear where and randomly pressed finger in any song.
    And that song was played.
    As per my understanding it may be a OS problem or may be screen problem or Virus problem.
    Please suggest me some needful solution.

    You can get no virus using your ipod, unless you're running modified software on it.
    Try to set it up "as new device" and see if the display comes back. If not, you'll have to get it serviced.

  • Trying to understand the basics of iTunes

    It may sound stupid, but after having read various manuals, guides, forum discussions, I still don't understand the basics of iTunes - is a 64 yo maybe too old for this?
    Yes, I can fill my iPod with music and sync it with my laptop. But to manage everything well, I need answers on these questions:
    - After I add my laptop folder MY MUSIC to the iTunes library, does iTunes make COPIES of all my files in that folder? Or just links? If copies, where are they stored?
    - What does the term synchronisation include? Does it mean: the music in the iTunes library will be identical to the music in the iPod? Or:
    - Will all changes in that folder automatically lead to updates of my iTunes library? Changes such as adding/removing files, changing filenames, modifying files with audio editors. If the contents are not automatically updated/synchronised, is there a manual way to do that?
    - And vice versa: if I delete a song in iTunes, does that effect the source file in MY MUSIC? If not, is there an option to delete the song there as well?
    - Could I theoretically delete the whole contents of MY MUSIC folder after all files have been added to iTunes? Is it recommended to do so? Or should I keep the 'originals'?
    - The same goes for cd's: After I (automatically or manually) added the contents of a cd to iTunes, could I theoretically throw or give it away?
    - There is the option to find doubles. If I want to delete one or more of them, how do I know which file I delete. I mean this: if song X is part of album A but also of a bunch of single files, then I would like to keep the album folder complete and just delete the 'single' occurrence. But how to determine that?
    - Changing filenames in MY MUSIC often has no effect on the filename as displayed in iTunes. Why not?
    - I think that is all for now. Maybe later I still come across more basic questions.
    Could anyone give me the basic answers? And if possible in language for dummies, not in nerd slang, please
    Thanks!

    *After I add my laptop folder MY MUSIC to the iTunes library, does iTunes make COPIES of all my files in that folder? Or just links? If copies, where are they stored?*
    That depends. Open iTunes and go to Edit>Preferences>Advanced. If "Copy files to iTunes Music Folder" is checked then iTunes is "copying" the files into the iTunes Music folder which is inside the iTunes folder. The library is then referenced to the location of the copy ( in this case you can if you wish delete the original). If it's unchecked it is adding the songs to to your iTunes library but referencing the location that the file is in without making a copy.
    *Will all changes in that folder automatically lead to updates of my iTunes library? Changes such as adding/removing files, changing filenames, modifying files with audio editors.*
    No, iTunes doesn't support folder watching so all changes have to be made within iTunes.
    *If the contents are not automatically updated/synchronised, is there a manual way to do that?*
    File>Add File to Library: Adding Content to iTunes
    *if I delete a song in iTunes, does that effect the source file in MY MUSIC? If not, is there an option to delete the song there as well?*
    iTunes will delete songs from the library and move them to Trash (Recycle Bin) only if they are in the iTunes Music folder. (iTunes will ask if you want to trash the file if this is the case, it doesn't trash it automatically). If your songs are kept outside of this folder then deleting only removes the reference to the song from the library and you have to go to the folder they are located in to trash the file itself.
    *Could I theoretically delete the whole contents of MY MUSIC folder after all files have been added to iTunes? Is it recommended to do so? Or should I keep the 'originals'?*
    You could only delete the songs from the original folder if you have set the preference above to copy the files to the iTunes Music folder, if not you have to keep them where they are. Regardless of where the files are stored you would be well advised to back them up in case you have problems with your computer. You might also find this article interesting/useful: iLounge - The Complete Guide to Backing Up your iTunes Library
    *The same goes for cd's: After I (automatically or manually) added the contents of a cd to iTunes, could I theoretically throw or give it away?*
    You don't own the copyright of the song, basically you own the license to play it. if you make a copy and then sell/give the CD away you are essentially sharing the files illegally.
    *There is the option to find doubles. If I want to delete one or more of them, how do I know which file I delete. I mean this*
    You would have to check the location of the file manually to be sure which one you wanted to keep.
    *Changing filenames in MY MUSIC often has no effect on the filename as displayed in iTunes*
    Because iTunes doesn't support folder watching, changes need to be made within iTunes. Changing the name of a file outside of iTunes can cause iTunes to lose the location of the file since it is referenced under the name it had when you added it.

The only problem is that on the display itself there is no image of the macbook being displayed. im using a thunderbolt to vga connector and all the connection check out the only problem is the display. the display works on my other macbook that i have just fine i dont understand why it wouldnt work on this new one. Keep in mind i have had this computer for only 5 days.

  • Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver

    I rummaged around in here looking at opengl topics and others associated with the above error, but I'm not seeing what I'm encountering (or I am and I don't recognize it!).....
    I bought CS4 a week or so ago, and installed it on a system running XP32 with service pack 3, 4GB of ram withe the /3GB switch set, nVidia 8600 GT card (which according to the list is supported), and multiple spindles for images, scratch, applications, and so on. I found other topics earlier so I downloaded the most recent drivers for my video card.
    I'm not crashing and burning, but I'm getting some messages...
    I opened an image, and while working on it I wanted to do a transform/warp. I got the message that Photoshop couldn't perform the operation because there wasn't enough memory. It didn't crash but I had to shut down CS4 and restart it to do the warp.
    Most recently I opened a couple images for a panorama, and while doing the merge I got the message that "Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver and has temporarily disabled gpu enhancements." It tells me to check for the latest drivers - I've ALREADY got the lastest drivers. Again, no crash, just the warning. It completed the panorama.
    There have been a couple other occurrences of messages of this type, so I'm curious if there's some set of preferences or system settting I need to adjust to optimize things? I've alrady adjusted the nVidia settings because I also run Lightroom and they're having problems too.
    I've read the tech notes for the video and such and didn't find any set of optimizations there so is there a set of adjustments beyond the preferences that needs to be adjusted to improve memory and video performance? And if so, can someone point me to them.

    As I understand it (suspect at best) XP32 can address 4 gig of memory. the /3gb switch lets the applications get at 3 gig of that. If my video card takes the first 256MB, and XP is guaranteed the other 750 of the 1st gig, and in the CS4 performance preferences I should be giving it from 1462 - 1895 MB (I've given it around 1890), that leaves me with another gig or so... Is that limited to applications or can XP use it? In any case, I'm not crashing, I just get the message every so often about being out of memory. I don't recall ever seeing this with CS3, but new version, new oddities...

  • Setting the displayed text in a JList

    I have created a JList by passing it a class that implements the interface ListModel (thank you, Gita Weiner). When the JList is displayed, it shows a cryptical representation of the entries in the class. For example: leeftijd.Persoon@6190b689. (Each entry in the list is an object of type Persoon). How can I show (some of) the attributes of each Persoon object? Class Persoon has attributes First Name and Last Name. I would like to displat that information in the form 'Last Name, First Name'.
    The code looks like this:
    public class LeeftijdList extends JFrame {
         LeeftijdList(Personenlijst eenPersonenLijst) {
              super("Leeftijd");
              setSize(300, 300);
              JPanel pane = new JPanel();
              FlowLayout lm = new FlowLayout();
              pane.setLayout(lm);
              JList dataList = new JList(eenPersonenLijst);
              JScrollPane scrollPane = new JScrollPane(dataList);
              scrollPane.getViewport().setView(dataList);
              pane.add(scrollPane);
              setContentPane(pane);
         public static void main(String[] arguments) {
              Personenlijst lijst = new Personenlijst();
              lijst.init();
              JFrame frame = new LeeftijdList(lijst);
              ExitWindow exit = new ExitWindow();
              frame.addWindowListener(exit);
              frame.show();
    }Note: I don't really understand the line scrollPane.getViewport().setView(dataList). I took it from a code snippet in the API specification.

    The default renderer of JList simply uses the toString() method of the Object in the list. What you see is the the default toString() implementation of the Object class which I believe is the memory address of the Object.
    Solution. Implement the toString() method in your Object or provide a custom renderer for the JList.
    This posting shows both of the above concepts for a JComboBox althought the concept is exactly the same:

  • Where are the "Display As" templates?

    I am using the Blue Grey theme on an application. On some forms there are fields that are not updateable and have the Display As set to "Text Disabled, ..."
    In the Blue Tan theme fields that are set to Display As "Text Disabled, ..." are grayed out. I want to gray out the text or the boxes on the fields in the Blue Gray theme just like that.
    I looked at the Blue Tan templates for the form Region and can not see what I should change... not even a clue. Doesn't look like it cares about the Display As property.
    Where should I look?
    Or, heaven help me, does this require changing the CSS file?
    TIA,

    The themes are
    2 is Blue and Tan
    13 is Blue Gray
    Let me see if I understand the problem correctly. When you set an item as either Text Field (Disabled, does not save state) or Text Field (Disabled, saves state) display type, this works in Blue Tan theme, but does not work in Blue Gray theme?
    Close but not exactly.
    In both themes the "Display As" property of Text Field (Disabled, ...) does disable the field from updates. In theme 2 (Blue and Tan) it also "grays" the text. This is common in many applications for identifying information that can not be updated. In theme 13 (Blue Gray) it does not change the text to gray but leaves it black.
    If you go to Shared Components>Templates, you will find templates for "Labels" types (No Label, Optional Label, etc.). When you set the Label type in a Page Item, the template changes the way the Label is displayed and allows HTML coding.
    I am looking for templates for the "Display As" type. It isn't on the templates page so I assume it is hidden somewhere in the bowels fo ApEx.

  • Understanding the get-help syntax

    Hi,
    I was studying on how to learn how to find and get powershell cmdlets.   However, when following the advice from an article:
    http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles-tutorials/windows-server-2012/powershell-essentials-part3.html
    =====================================================
    I will be the first to admit that the information that is displayed as a result of using the Get-Help cmdlet can be a
    little bit overwhelming. However, things really aren’t as difficult as they might at first appear. The trick is to know
    how to read the syntax information. To show you what I mean, let’s take a look at the last block of text in the
    screen capture above.
    The text starts out with Get-PhysicalDisk. Obviously this is the cmdlet that we are using. From there, you will notice
    the following text:
    [-Usage <usage[]>
    Anything that appears in brackets [] references an optional parameter. In this case, we have a bracket [ followed
    by –Usage. This indicates that –Usage is an optional parameter.
    The next thing that we see after –Usage is <usage[]> this indicates that the Usage parameter requires some
    additional information. You can’t just use the command Get-PhysicalDisk –Usage because even though Usage is
    a valid parameter, PowerShell needs more information. It needs to know what kind of usage you are interested in.
    Any time you see a word in between the less than < and greater than > signs, it indicates that you are going to
    need to provide some additional information to the parameter. So in this case, -Usage is the parameter and
    <usage[]> is the additional data.
    Of course this raises the question of where we can find this additional data. Well, it is included in the command
    syntax. You will notice that the next section of the syntax is:
    {Unknown | AutoSelect | ManualSelect | HotSpare | Retired | Journal}
    You will notice that the list of words is enclosed in braces {}. These braces indicate that the words within can be
    used in conjunction to the optional parameter. To show you what I mean, let’s go back to the original example in
    which I wanted to find information related to retired physical disks. To get this information, I could use the
    following command:
    Get-PhysicalDisk –Usage Retired
    So you can see that I am appending the –Usage parameter to the Get-PhysicalDisk cmdlet, and then I am telling
    PowerShell what type of Usage I am interested in.
    The syntax that is displayed within the above figure continues on, but the basic pattern repeats. The syntax
    information lists a number of optional parameters and the data that can be used with those parameters. Some of
    the other optional parameters for instance are –Description, -Manufacturer, -Model, -CanPool, and –HealthStatus,
    and the list goes on.
    =====================================================
    I like to follow along so I got it that []= optional , <>=mandatory, {}= list of items
    However, I ran the command and got something different:
    PS C:\Users\Administrator.BWCAT> get-help Get-PhysicalDisk
    NAME
        Get-PhysicalDisk
    SYNOPSIS
        Gets a list of all PhysicalDisk objects visible across any available Storage Management Providers, or optionally a
        filtered list.
    SYNTAX
        Get-PhysicalDisk [-AsJob] [-CanPool <Boolean[]>] [-CimSession <CimSession[]>] [-Description <String[]>]
        [-HealthStatus <HealthStatus[]>] [-Manufacturer <String[]>] [-Model <String[]>] [-ThrottleLimit <Int32>]
        [-UniqueId <String[]>] [-Usage <Usage[]>] [<CommonParameters>]
        Get-PhysicalDisk [-AsJob] [-CanPool <Boolean[]>] [-CimSession <CimSession[]>] [-Description <String[]>]
        [-HealthStatus <HealthStatus[]>] [-Manufacturer <String[]>] [-Model <String[]>] [-StoragePool <CimInstance>]
        [-ThrottleLimit <Int32>] [-Usage <Usage[]>] [<CommonParameters>]
        Get-PhysicalDisk [-AsJob] [-CanPool <Boolean[]>] [-CimSession <CimSession[]>] [-Description <String[]>]
        [-HealthStatus <HealthStatus[]>] [-Manufacturer <String[]>] [-Model <String[]>] [-StorageNode <CimInstance>]
        [-ThrottleLimit <Int32>] [-Usage <Usage[]>] [<CommonParameters>]
        Get-PhysicalDisk [-AsJob] [-CanPool <Boolean[]>] [-CimSession <CimSession[]>] [-Description <String[]>]
        [-HasAllocations <Boolean>] [-HealthStatus <HealthStatus[]>] [-Manufacturer <String[]>] [-Model <String[]>]
        [-SelectedForUse <Boolean>] [-ThrottleLimit <Int32>] [-Usage <Usage[]>] [-VirtualDisk <CimInstance>]
        [-VirtualRangeMax <UInt64>] [-VirtualRangeMin <UInt64>] [<CommonParameters>]
        Get-PhysicalDisk [-AsJob] [-CanPool <Boolean[]>] [-CimSession <CimSession[]>] [-Description <String[]>]
        [-HealthStatus <HealthStatus[]>] [-Manufacturer <String[]>] [-Model <String[]>] [-StorageEnclosure <CimInstance>]
        [-ThrottleLimit <Int32>] [-Usage <Usage[]>] [<CommonParameters>]
        Get-PhysicalDisk [-AsJob] [-CanPool <Boolean[]>] [-CimSession <CimSession[]>] [-Description <String[]>]
        [-HealthStatus <HealthStatus[]>] [-Manufacturer <String[]>] [-Model <String[]>] [-StorageSubSystem <CimInstance>]
        [-ThrottleLimit <Int32>] [-Usage <Usage[]>] [<CommonParameters>]
        Get-PhysicalDisk [[-FriendlyName] <String[]>] [-AsJob] [-CanPool <Boolean[]>] [-CimSession <CimSession[]>]
        [-Description <String[]>] [-HealthStatus <HealthStatus[]>] [-Manufacturer <String[]>] [-Model <String[]>]
        [-ThrottleLimit <Int32>] [-Usage <Usage[]>] [<CommonParameters>]
    I then tried to do what they said:
    Get-PhysicalDisk -Description string        ((However you can see that what he says does not seem to apply to the string, and I dont see a list of things to choose from.  So I am confused on how to understand the syntax here can
    someone help me to understand the syntax?
    Thanks,

    It said the following in the -full
     -Description <String[]>
         Gets the physical disks that contain the specified description. Enter a description, or use wildcard
         characters to enter a description pattern.
         Required?                    false
         Position?                    named
         Default value
         Accept pipeline input?       false
         Accept wildcard characters?  false
    When I read that I take it to mean that it wants me to enter the string after -description as a filter in order to tailor my search?  because if I type  Get-physicaldisk -description "*"    or I enter get-physical -description
    *   that command seems to work and pull up information.  in my case I only have one disk.

  • Understanding the gc log

    Hi,
    I'm trying to understand the garbage collection log (1.4.2). I have log statements in there like:
    14325.110: [GC 14325.110: [DefNew: 111691K->111691K(118016K), 0.0000206 secs]14325.111: [Tenured: 283068K->298347K(393216K), 4.1681840 secs] 394760K->298347K(511232K), 4.1683295 secs]
    The way I read it is: nothing done on the New Generation and the tenured Generation even increased. But looking at the total heap, the total used memory after the garbage collection equals the total used memory in the tenured Generation making me believe that the New Generation is empty. Is there a display bug that the New Generation was completely cleared but only the log incorrect? But is it really possible to clear the New Generation up to the very last byte?

    bug that the New Generation was completely cleared
    but only the log incorrect? Yes, exactly.
    But is it really possible
    to clear the New Generation up to the very last
    byte?Yes, all the survivors in the New Generation were compacted
    up into the Old Generation. (The whole heap was collected.)
