Undervolting X100e: RMclock help?

RMClock worked quite well in reducing the heat on my L625 Dual Core X100e.  My stable settings went from:
Stock:
4.0x (800MHz) = 0.8000V
8.0x (1.6GHz) = 0.9500V
Undervolted:
4.0x (800MHz) = 0.6500V
8.0x (1.6GHz) = 0.8250V
That reduced my CoreTemp results from max of 79C down to 68C (at 100% CPU load at 1.6GHz).  I'm quite happy with that, as it should improve battery life as well, and the fan is rarely going above it's lowest speed.
HOWEVER!
Since RMclock is not 100% compatible with this CPU, it lists lots of "Index" values (for all the different multipliers or FID values) between 4x and 8x.  My question is:  Should I use these extra muliplier settings, or not?
In other words...  By default, does this processor "ramp" the multiplier (and voltage) up and down between 4x and 8x (max and min) when adapting to demands, or does it just use ONLY 4x and 8x?  My fear is that using the adaptive "Power on demand" settings I've created in RMclock, I may be stressing the processor by jumping from min to max voltage so much.  But if I do use them, maybe I am asking the CPU to do something it is not designed to do (like run at 1.2GHz).
Any experiences?

Hello,
I have used an X100e (the AMD L625 CPU model) with both 4GB (Crucial CT2KIT25664AC800, two 2GB DDR2-800 PC2-6400 CL6 SO-DIMMs) and 8GB (G.SKILL G2-6400CL6D-8GBSQ two 4GB DDR2-800 PC2-6400 CL6-6-618 SO-DIMMs) of RAM installed and in both cases, Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Edition x64 recognized the RAM.  After installing the 8GB of RAM, the machine generated a stop error (i.e, a BSOD) when booting up for the first time, but I have not been able to reproduce this since it first occured, and it may have just been a transient issue unrelated to the memory upgrade.
As far as I can tell, you should be able to use any compatible memory, however, if you are concerned about stability or other issues then it is probably best to go with the manufacturer's memory.
I am in the process of setting up Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on the X100e, so it is difficult for me to say if it is "worth" doing as that tends to largely be a matter of software requirements as well as personal preference.  It is, however, an interesting project.

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum as HTPC mobo questions

I've been looking at building a Home Theater PC (HTPC) for a little while now and have been investigating various parts, including possible motherboards. The MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum is a key canidate and I was wondering if I could get some advice from people who actually use the board as to whether it would be suitable. Here is the basic run down of what I need:
    1) I have read that there are potential issues with the AMD 90nm cores. It seems a lot of people in the forum are running them though. Has the problem been cleared up with the latest BIOS? (I am looking at using at least a 3500+ Venice core, but might try to go a little higher).
    2) The board has a cooling fan on it, How loud is it? (The goal is to try and make the system as silent as possible without going over budget)
    3) Front side Firewire connector - it seems like its located between two PCI slots. Has this posed a problem?
    4) The PCI slot "reserved" as a comm slot - is it usable for other PCI devices? (One reason this board is on the short list is that it has 4 PCI slots. I plan on putting in at least 3 tuner cards, possibly 4 or using the 4th for a sound card or some other device. Thus, having this slot available as a general purpose PCI is important. Some retailers claim it is 'reserved' others don't.)
Any other recommendations would also be appreciated. Especially as concerns silencing and processor choice.

There were, make sure u get a E4 revision or higher. 99,9% of CPU's shipped today will have that.

Very, I have the same fan. I run it at 5v, than it's OK, u can get an adapter in most PC shops. Getting a passive haetsink is also a possibility, but that will void your warrenty.

Dunno, Don't see why, make sure u get a HTPC with a front bracket with a FW port.

See if this will fit in ur HTPC (the 80mil one)

Underclocking and undervolting will also help keeping the CPU cool = less need for noisy fans.
Be weary of components causing heat. Samsung HDD's are the coolest, use as many as the onboard stuff as possible, etc..
Stick to 1 casefan and put it on the NB-FAN, so Corecenter or Speedfan can manage the fan speed. Recomended brands are Papst, Panaflo and Vantec Stealth.
4GB limit is due to having a 32bit OS. With 32bits u can only adress a max of 3GB. It might work using XP 64-bit, but I don't see why a anyone would need it.

  • X100e keyboard broken! Which maintenance part to choose? Help!!

    well this is unfortunate..
after i spilt water on my macbook and broke the keyboard, i bought a x100e as an emergency replacement a week ago.
then.. i spilt water on my x100e again. =[
now i think the keyboard, along with its logic board, are broken, as well as the keycaps of "," and "." key (i broke them when trying to fix the problem).
I get a error 0210:stuck key message on the boot screen every time i boot up the x100e.
so I think I am going to fix this issue by myself since it will take too long if I send my x100e to the service station, and also save some $$$$
However, when i try to buy the keyboard part for x100e on the lenovo website, i come across 2 different selection for U.S keyboard.
One FRU is 45N2971, costs $67, the other one is 60Y9366, costs $77.
I couldn't find the difference between the two since there is no description on
    both of them.
Do I need both or one of them? anyone? Thank you very much!!

Hi factorlin, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!
There are usually at least two keyboard manufacturers for each ThinkPad, and that's what the two part numbers represent.
Not sure why the $10 price difference!
If you want to the exact keyboard you have now, I suggest removing it to read the part number. The Hardware Maintenance Manual and service training videos describe how.
    Hope this helps!

  • Please help!! x100e blue screen issue

    Hey everyone,
I'm new on here, trying to help out my sister who's in school and so far failing miserably!
She has a x100e and developed the blue screen issue.
I did a bunch of reading on it- but have never seen an error message.
I formatted the hard drive for her (it needed it anyways) hoping that would help.  It didn't.  It also lost the wi-fi, I had to download a new driver from lenovo to get the wi-fi working again.  It is now working, but still has the blue screen.
Any help?  I wanna give it back to her but proving to be useless.
Thanks for any and all help!

How will anyone help you w/o error message on the top of blue screen and problem signature description?

  • Roarrrr needs help with x100e

i got really frustrated at using this netbook, although the saleman told me that this is not a netbook, zzzzzz. I wonder any pros out there know any websites that has tutorial for upgrading my x100e to amd athlon neo x2 dual core. Currently my lenovo x100e was using a single core amd athlon neo with 4gb of ram. I will be very grateful to you if u can give me any helps regarding upgrading my processor. i have e-mailed lenovo support and asked them if they are providing any upgrading processor service but they said that it was impossible for them to upgrade(which i do not believe in them). i really hope that lenovo will not make the same mistake of putting a netbook under their business notebook category =.= .

    Hello,
From looking at the Pictures link on this page of the CPU World web site, it appears the AMD Athlon Neo MV-40 CPU is a Ball Grid Array-style chip, which means it is soldered to the motherboard and cannot be replaced.  While it may be possible to purchase a new motherboard with the dual-core CPU attached to it, if you just bought the X100e, it may be easier to return to the store and exchange it for the more powerful model.

  • Help - undervolting broke clocking-down

I was trying to follow this guide
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PHC
but of course PHC Tool doesn't work on Arch because of too new Python version and automatic finding of lowest stable voltages didn't work either (it only found stock).
So I abandoned it but now mu C2D won't even downclock and runs at 2100MHz at all times.

    Reverse the changes you made.

  • X100e overheating

    Hi,
I`ve had my x100e for about two years. I was struggling with the overheating problem ever since and it`s just getting to the point that I`m tired of dealing with it. I have tried everything. I have turned up the fan performance in the BIOS, I am running TPFanControl all the time, cleaned the air vents, I have even bought a cooling pad that raises the laptop and has an extra fan attached for more cooling effect. Still, if I happen to use it for more than writing e-mails, the laptop shuts down due to overheating. I am a scientist, I purchased the Thinkpad for work. Imagine the potential embarrassment of my laptop shutting down in the middle of a presentation at an international conference!
As of now I don`t think that a couple of tips from Lenovo technical support are acceptable as the solution for this problem. Lenovo should have recalled all x100e models due to this serious design flow and repaired/replaced them with a model that actually works. I would be willing to buy a new Thinkpad if sending my x100e back would give me a reasonable discount. Short of a solution similar to my suggestion above I will not buy a Lenovo product again in my life and I will take every opportunity to try and deter anyone who might consider Lenovos, especially if "reliability" is the selling point for them!
I apologise for the strong words, I realise that the technical support guys are not responsible for design flows. However You might be able to channel my disappointment towards the right people in the hope that there is someone at a prestigious company like Lenovo who is willing to take their customers seriously and take some responsibility.
Hoping to hear from you soon.
    Best wishes

  • X100e: BSODS with multi 4 and 4.5

    Hi,
I got my X100e a few days ago.
Unfortunately I couldnt install Windows 7 Ult. properly.
After deactivating the dynamic downclocking of the CPU in the BIOS installation was possible.
I noticed, that the multiplicators 4,0 and 4,5 produce a BSOD at any voltage.
    This is reproduceable with RMClock.
After deactivating RMClock and activating Dynamic downclocking  I got BSODs again.
The x100e is now working properly with 2 multiplicators missing and undervolting.
Does anybody have a solutution using the missing multiplicators?

    Hello,
It sounds like it would be a good idea to open a ticket with the Lenovo support office in your country/region.  That way, if they do diagnose a hardware problem, it can be repaired while in warranty.

  • X100e Hanging and Freezing on Wireless

There was a different thread addressing freezing and hanging when connected via ethernet; however, I have had ethernet disabled from the BIOS since day one of receiving my system but I found my system to be locking up extremely often particularly when connected to the Wi-Fi at Purdue University.
For reference:  The wireless network at Purdue University uses WPA-Enterprise with PEAP + Thawte Security Certificate.
Naturally, I had the latest BIOS (1.25) and had all the updates available from ThinkVantage System Update, but this did not seem to help any - when I was browsing on my university network it would simply hang and freeze up completely every 30 minutes or so, forcing me to restart the system.  It would seem to freeze regardless of whether or not I was even doing anything on the internet.
There did not seem to be any serious issues on my home network, however, which used WPA2-Personal, but I do not really use my x100e at home enough to say for sure.
I was quite convinced that there was some sort of problem with either the wireless adapter drivers or some sort of power saving feature at this point, so I uninstalled the Lenovo x100e wireless drivers and obtained the newest drivers for the RTL8192SE chipset directly from RealTek and installed them.
I then went and disabled "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" for the wireless adapter from Device Manager.  I also set the wireless adapter to "Maximum Performance" and turned off PCI Express Link state power management from the power manager.  I also turned off idle timers for stopping hard disk rotation, system standy, and hibernation.
Now after this little set of actions I seem to be able to more or less surf and download things stably on my university network.  I must note that, the system will still hang every now and then while I am browsing around.  I don't notice any particular pattern to this hanging; it simply happens when I have a browser open and am surfing normally -  it will hang for about 40 seconds or so (I can move my mouse but nothing will respond) and then it will simply resume normal operation.
    So there is my story....
Has anyone else ever experienced hanging or freezing on wireless networks with their x100e?
    Solved!

    Hello,
So far, my networking results with my ThinkPad X100e have been very good, but I have only used it on a few networks.
Have you tried using your ThinkPad X100e on different wireless networks to see if the results vary?  Perhaps the problem occurs with wireless networks that are configured in a specific fashion or using specific hardware.  Connecting at a local coffee shop or public library or other venue with wireless Internet access may provide a different experience.

  • 1 week with my X100e

I was compelled to write my own review after reading some bad ones out there (mostly about the MV-40)...
    My Specs:
AMD Turion Neo X2 Dual Core (L625)
    4GB RAM
    160GB intel X25-M SSD
    Bluetooth
    Windows 7 Pro x64
    -plus all other standard equipment.
    The PROs:
    Form factor:
Thin and small enough (without being ridiculous). Fits nicely in a standard leather portfolio and light enough to forget in a backpack. It's a true ultra-portable with size and weight similar to an X200, slightly smaller with the 3-cell battery (a recommended extra). Just the right amount of ports, in generally the right places. The design looks very minimalist with only necessities: left side with 2 USB, one audio, one LAN - the right side has just one USB and one mem card slot. VGA and power in the back. Simple compared to my X60s and its many seams and ports and latches, etc.
    Build Quality:
Great. No roll cage - and who cares. I'm not rolling my laptop, and my drive is SSD. Seriously, I would guess that in this size, ABS plastic is just as durable as Magnesium alloy. I have cracked pieces of metal broken off my X60s from slight bumps where the metal was just too brittle and cracked off. ABS does not do that. Flex in the laptop is minimal, fit and finish is very good - note the missing hood latch complaint below.
    Screen:
At 11.6 inches, it is just big enough for me to work comfortably due to the higher resolution screen, which I have not seen on any laptop or netbook of this size. It is quite bright, with lots of adjustment from nearly off through full brightness (15 steps) - and in my experience nobody has made an LCD yet that looks good in direct sunlight - so stop putting that bit in reviews, please!
    Keyboard:
Lots of talk about ThinkPadders resisting the change, but honestly, it is better than my X60s old-school ThinkPad keyboard. Solid, great feel.
    UltraNav (trackpoint and trackpad):
Coming from an X60s, I could live without the trackpad (and have disabled it on my X100e) but it is very nice to the touch and useful especially if sharing with your less-trackpoint-friendly friends. The Trackpoint is just as it is on all ThinkPads - exceptionally comfortable to operate, adjustable to your sensitivity, and with soft but sure left/right/scroll keys perfectly positioned under your thumb. It is always funny to me to see some people operate a little ultra-portable with two hands controlling the trackpoint - sorry, but that's just strange to watch.
    Performance:
Note: Heavily dependent on latest BIOS, drivers (especially video) and latest Flash (if applicable to you). Otherwise, performance depends heavily on your needs, mine are fairly normal I guess:
Office apps and Outlook, some light Photoshop work, Acrobat PDF creation, web browsing with Chrome, watching HD movies in a hotel room or airplane, occasional flash video on web, Skype with video, iTunes syncing with iPod …that's about all.
If that sounds like you, then you're probably going to be happy with X100e performance - I cannot see a lag in any of these but Photoshop CS5 (seems optimized to intel somehow). Keep in mind that some of my impression is enhanced by the SSD I added - mostly load times of each app and maybe playback reliability of video to some extent (?) on some really big files (4+GB, 1080p).
    The CONs:
    Battery:
Okay, let's get this over with - the battery life is weaker than a 6-cell should be, and yes, it is due to the processor. But I willingly chose to trade (best guess) 25% battery life for 25% more performance when that extra performance gets me HD video, better GPU, and generally better usability on all that I do - compared to a weaker, more efficient netbook. My solution - buy another battery - Lenovo makes it pretty easy to change on the fly. I bought a 3-cell, so in total I measure that I can last about 5 hours watching movies in the air, or web browsing in the coffee shop. Much longer if I'm just working in Word or PowerPoint with screen dimmed to usable levels. The SSD helps - adding about 20 minutes on the 6-cell.
I generally understand the complaints about the battery as the X100 is ultra-portable, but it's not an X200 or X300 ULV ultra-portable. You sacrifice battery life and other things for a significantly lower price. Again, buy a spare and get over it. For the record, the 6-cell lasts an hour longer than my old X60s with a new 4-cell (standard shipping battery) doing the same tasks.
No fingerprint reader or security chip:
Comparing to my X60s which has both, but just miss the quick and cool logins with my finger. I installed a face-recognition tool - cool, but buggy.
    No Lid latch:
The lid holds position nicely, but without latch, it will open slightly when you carry with like a book, hinge down. It does not snap tightly shut. ThinkPads have long come with finger grips for the lid and (again comparing to my X60s) I miss these especially on a laptop with no latch, and no "grabbing point" on the lid. There is a very small raised area on the right front of the lid, but it is more likely that you grab the center - where the trackpad buttons are - don't force those open! I have gotten used to opening from the left and right corners of the lid instead.
    No Thinklight:
Would be nice, but honestly I have never used this for working on my X60s, only for "finding that sleep Fn key" or something similar. The Thinklight key was always easy to find as it is in the top right corner.
No HDMI, or other digital display port:
Although not needed for me, it would be nice - on a laptop that has HD capability - and a laptop with no docking station to speak of. Most all screens are digital these days - seems logical to ditch VGA.
    Power vs. LAN port placement:
Okay, time for the picky small things - I would prefer these two on the same area, so cables aren't coming from both sides, when you need to go fully wired. If the cables are coming from anywhere other than behind the laptop, you will possibly trip over one or the other.
    PCIe card lockout:
Lenovo is one of only a few vendors left that restrict the cards you can add to their own OEM branding. Why do they give you access to cards that cannot be replaced yourself! I would love to change the WiFi card to an intel card that I know will work (and supports 5GHz 802.11n) but cannot. I would love to put my own WWAN card inside in the future, but can't. So it's really just RAM and HDD. Thanks for teasing me! I know it simplifies technical support, but that's just mean.
    No "Soft-Touch" paint:
I like it on my X60s and would prefer it here - but consider it the smallest of my complaints - really nice looking in smooth finish matte black. All other X-series have had it.
    Concluding remarks:
In my view, the ThinkPad X100e is targeting two types of buyers from opposite ends of the portable spectrum:
    1. Netbook buyers looking for better specs, more performance.
For these buyers, the X100e has better build quality, better screen, better keyboard and pointing device, and about 25% more real-world performance with about 25% less battery life - my bold estimate. An intelligent buyer would ask "how much should I pay for these extra features?" In this case, I think it is priced spot-on compared to a netbook.
    2. Laptop buyers wanting more portability, while running office tasks, web browsing, and email (which is most consumers I have to guess).
For this group, I suppose the main concern is to minimize sacrifices going from an average 14-15-inch laptop to a (formerly too expensive) ultra-portable. If running Office/Outlook, web browsing, Skype, playing HD video and music is all you do, then X100e shrinks those capabilities into a smaller more portable package that still has full-sized screen resolution, keyboard, trackpad and trackpoint.
Simply put, the X100e is not as big and as powerful as a big laptop, but that's not the point in an 11.6-inch laptop - you expect compromise when going smaller. Conversely, the X100e is not as small, cheap and efficient as most netbooks, but you gain power and features not available on netbooks.
For me, the X100e was the first chance to get a brand-new ultra-portable with "good-enough" performance and ThinkPad quality at a low price - next step being an X201 starting at 1100 USD. On another note, I have a company-owned X60s that will be replaced by another X201 (or like) in the next 6 months - I would also guess that some X100 users are like me - buying their first private-owned Thinkpad, due to their experience with the brand, and the good price/performance/features mix of the X100e.
Overall very, very happy with my buy. I have not yet formed a bond as with my X60s, but that does not happen in just 1 week.
    ...just my 2 cents.

Windows 7 Pro (x64) gets from power button to login screen in 20.1 seconds (with startup animation disabled).  From login to "desktop ready" is dependent on how many services, processes are running - but in my case about 8 seconds until cursor is idle, ready.  If I'm fast with my password, I can get in in under 30 total!  Kidding - I rarely reboot now that apps are all in place.
Photoshop CS5 (x64) loads in 5.2 seconds.  Nothing is cached as Windows 7 senses an SSD and turns off caching.  Indexing is also off as it is virtually instant as you type in search.  It's quite nice.
...loving the SSD.  Friends have claimed it's overkill in X100e - probably right - but could not in good faith buy some RAM-brand drive or even a smaller drive - want to keep everything on this drive.  Wanted a silent, safe, quick, large enough drive - and SSD is a scary world of confusing benchmarks for now.  I played it safe (worth the 20% higher cost to me) and chose the intel.
Last thing to configure before I am settled in... I'm in the process of tuning my fan speed to suit the different Power Manager settings I've made - cutting noise and heat, and getting a little more battery.

  • Can't start laptop - problems with automatic repair, need acces to admin account but there is none. HELP! :(

    Hello,
I'm having problems with my windows 8 laptop.
This afternoon I shut it down, and went to work. A few hours later when I came back home I noticed the little blue lights on the keyboard (showing me that the pc was charging and that my wifi is on) were still on. Normally these are off when the pc is turned
    off.
I tried starting the laptop but nothing happened, the screen stayed black. I held down the 'on' button to force it to turn off, and turned it on again.
I then got a textmessage on the startup loading screen that there were problems with my C drive (only drive the laptop has), so it went to automatic repair.
*my laptop's language is set to Dutch so I'm translating everything :)*
    It gave me 2 options:
    1: Restart computer
    2: Advanced options.
I tried option 1, didnt work ofcourse, it just restarted and I got back to this screen, so I checked what option 2 had to offer.
I got to a screen with 3 options:
    1: Continue to windows 8
    2: Solve Problems
    3: Shut down
When I tried option 1 the computer just restarted and went back to the same screen.
When I tried option 3 it shut down as it should.
Option 2 gave me 3 other options:
    1: Renew PC
    2: Factory reset
    3: advanced options
Option 1 just restarted my pc and took me back to screen 1.
Option 2 I havent tried yet, because it erases all of my files. This is a last resort.
Option 3 gave me 6 other options:
    1: Systemrepair
    2: Repair with installationcopy
    3: Startuprepair
    4: CMD
    5: UEFI firmware settings
    6. Startupsettings.
I can't use option 1,2,3,4 because I need to log in to an administratoraccount.
The bad part is: the laptop doesn't have an administratoraccount.
It was my parents laptop, and theyve set it up. I always assumed the account was an admin because
I had acces to everything and didn't need a password to run things as admin and such.
    Turns out it isn't.
I get this message (translated) when I try to acces one of these:
'You have to log in as administrator to continue, but this pc doesn't have an administratoraccount'.
I can't believe microsoft added a check to see if the pc has an admin account on it, and even added a specific message to show when it doesn't, but they didnt add the option to just use these tools when there is no admin account present? What were they thinking!
Option 5 I havent tried yet, when I click it it says I have to restart to acces these settings, but I dont want to mess with something I know nothing about.
Option 6 gives me a few options like run the pc in safety mode, run windows repair and disable auto-restart after something has gone wrong with windows. But when I select one of these options it doesnt work. It just takes me back to auto repair. It just doesn't
    doe anything.
There are no other options. Nothing I can do. My pc is stuck like this. The only thing I *might* be able to do is a factory reset, but I havent tried, and that could also just give me an error about me not being admin.
Some backstory of what I think caused this problem:
I believe the problems started a week ago, last friday.
I'm using a program called 'AVG TuneUp'. This program gave me a message telling me it was 3 months since it had checked my C drive for defects or anything. And it asked me if I wanted it to do so. Unknowing of the problems that would follow, I pressed 'ok'
    (or whatever it was).
I had to restart my pc for it to begin, because it could only check the drive during startup. It went to 12% and stayed there for like half an hour, after which I decided to google (on my phone) if that was normal. It turned out that that option doesn't work
well with windows 8 and that lots of people's computers got ruined after using it. I stressed and I tried to shut it down, but since I was still in startup the only thing I could do was force the pc to shut down, so I held down the power button and it shut
down. I restarted and managed to abort the proces. The laptop started fine and everything worked.
A few days later a game/program I use called League of Legends started to act weird, because I could not log in on my account (for the game) anymore. Some error with IE settings, which I was unable to fix. For more info about that go to http://boards.eune.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/help-support-en/8Eoz315J-cant-log-in-to-lol-and-cant-log-in-to-steam-either-weird-coincidence.
Although I doubt it will help.
That forum post also contains a link to a post I made on the Steam forum about not being able to log into steam anymore. (Steam is another program I used). I wasn't able to log into steam anymore about 1-2 days after I wasn't able to log into LoL.
Also at the same time my Norton sortof stopped working. It showed up as active in my task manager and AVG TuneUp program manager, but it wasn't in my task bar and I couldnt acces the control panel.
Then yesterday I checked my pc for errors with AVG TuneUp's 1-click maintenance tool, and it told me my C drive was fragmented badly, so I defragmented it using the tool. Laptop still worked fine after that.
And then today I got the error on startup about my C drive having errors.
Long story shot: Problem is probably caused because I stopped the repair of my C drive with the avg tuneup tool before it was done, however its weird that I'm only experiencing (big) problems a week after that happened.
    Hardware info:
It's a Samsung Ativ book 6  (google it for all the specs :) )
    RAM: 8 GB DDR3
    CPU: intel 3230M @ 2.60 gHz
    GPU: AMD Radeon HD 8850M
HDD: 1 TB S-ATAII hard disc
    I've found this page:

But I don't really understand what the answering person is saying, and my laptop doesn't have a CD drive..
I really, REALLY hope someone can help me with this, because my laptop is basically 100% 'destroyed'.
    Kind regards,
    Christian Collaert

    Hello,
Perhaps the operating system is incorrectly powering down or shifting the wireless adapter to a low power state in order to improve run time while on battery?
Try going into the Device Manager (filename: DEVMGMT.MSC), locate the wireless adapter under the Network Adapters tree, view its Properties, and on the Power Management tab, disable (un-check) the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power option.
Please let us know if that makes any difference (or not).

  • X100e win xp pro usb installation problem

Hello to all, i am new here and sorry for not not introducing myself properly bu this is urgent situation.
Few days ago i bought Lenovo x100e Netbook
    Product ID: 35086AG
    Athlon MV40(1.6GHz), 1GB RAM, 160GB 5400rpm HD, 11.6in 1366x768 LCD, ATI Radeon HD2200, 802.11bgn wireless, WWAN upgradeable, Bluetooth, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, 3c Li-Ion, WinXP Home 32
here is link from lenovo driver download site for this netbook:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/quickPath.do?quickPathEntry=35086AG
Netbook came with preinstalled Win. XP Home edition and i was going to install Win. XP Professional.
So i created bootable USB stick Win. XP Pro. installation (cause this netbook dont have internal cd drive) and booted on startup and started installation.
Installation was going smooth -> i choosed C partition, formated it and after formatting next message shows up:
"The following value in the .SIF file used by Setup is
    corrupted or missing:
Value 0 on the line in section [SourceDiskFiles]
    with key "SSA.exe."
Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3."
So as you can see...i can't go on with installation and problem is the disk is already formatted and i have nothing on it, no OS no nothing.
Please help cause i need laptop soon.

    I solved problem,
As i could not find vanilla, i found standard Win. XP Pro. with SP3, and using nLite added ATI AMD RAID AHCI driver to it and using multiboot 10 put that on USB stick. It booted with no problems and installed
Thank you for pointing me in right direction.

  • X100E clean install of Windows 7

I got an X100E nearly a year ago and have never been happy with all the extra 'junk' software that came pre-installed with it.  Sure there are a few useful items, but like many business users, I'd much prefer a clean installation of Windows so I could install the programs I've found from experience work well.
I've currently got a problem that's going to require reinstalling from the CD that Lenovo's sending me and this would be an ideal time to get the clean install I need.  The problem is, this will be an image for the entire drive that will leave the machine in the state in which it shipped originally including all the unwanted bloatware.
It's not really feasible to uninstall all the unwanted stuff - I tried this several times soon after getting the machine and had serious problems.  Not all of the stuff is uninstallable and even the items that do uninstall don't do so properly.  After resetting to factory two or three times I gave up.
How can I get the clean installation I'm looking for?  I can see from the support pages that this isn't an unusual requirement and all of the extras are available for download and installation if needed so where can I find details of how to do a clean install?

Thanks again for your time and patience with this issue.
Even though it looks like it's much more involved using ABR, most of the procedure is just good practice even if you're not using ABR (backup etc.).  Anyway, I thought I'd give it a try last night as I'm sure going to use this again so best to get familiar.
Actually, I did download the W7 Beta file, what I meant was that the instructions are for Vista - same with the guides for Lenovo.  Also they are several years old.  This shouldn't be a problem, though as it's mostly just stepping through the installation procedure.  However, the X100e doesn't have an optical drive and I'm not sure how to get 'round this (share a drive on another PC or make a bootable USB drive and force the X100e to boot from it?).  Anyway, I thought I'd go through the preparation steps, but then I had a number of problems:
    1.  First I went to the Lenovo site to manually download the drivers as listed in the procedure, but couldn't find the chipset drivers for the mobo.  Not a disaster as I have a backup of the latest drivers from running Driver Genius backup (also all the old ones replaced by it), but I'd still like to know where to find it on the Lenovo site.  There's also mention of a 'Turbo Memory Driver' and a 'Matrix Storage Manager Driver', but since I could see no drivers of this type listed, I assume it's not relevant to this machine.
    2.  I then tried to delete the hidden partition following the steps in Hypertrophy's Diskpart Guide, but at the final step "delete partition override" I got a message saying the action couldn't be performed.  The guide assumes this will work and gives no further details of what to do if it doesn't.  I was logged on to the proper Windows 'administrator' account and also tried running it '..as administrator', but just got the same result.  There's also a message at the start of this article saying "Make sure you have backed up your OEM keycode before deleting the hidden partition."  What's the OEM keycode?  Surely not the activation key as the guides say to delete the hidden partition BEFORE running the ABR utility.  Does it just mean to write it down first or is the OEM keycode something else?
    3.  Lastly I tried to run the ABR utility itself (downloaded the ABRbeta.exe) file, but when I ran this I got this message "Can not open file 'L:\Downloads\ABR Beta\ABRbeta.exe' as archive".  At this point I gave up, but tried again this morning on a different machine and got the same result.  However, downloading it again today it works fine so at least that's one problem solved!
All I need now is a way to delete the hidden partition (formatting the whole drive is fine as there's nothing of value that hasn't been backed up) and a method of installing Windows, either from DVD, bootable USB drive or from a mounted image across the LAN.
You've already been very helpful and I can't thank you enough, but if you could give me some help with these problems and the earlier questions regarding drivers, I might have a chance of getting this job done.
