Undo auto-analyzer changes (elements 9)

Hi,
I have searched for an answer to this one but have not found it.
I have turned off auto-analyzer.  Now how do I remove all of the changes it has made?  in particular, I never wanted my videos split into multiple scenes and would like to view them as they were previously, which is directly as recorded from my camera.   This is very frustrating.
Thank you,
Paul

No actual changes have been made to any of your media files. Your clips are not really cut into multiple scenes -- they've just been "trimmed" in the Organizer catalog. It's just metadata.
You can delete any of these clips from the Organizer if they bother you. You won't affect the original video at all. Or, if it really bothers you, you can create a whole new Organize catalog and, this time, omit the Analyzer's changes.

  • Undoing auto analyzer damage: screwed up metadata

I am annoyed at the Adobe auto-analyzer for touching all my JPG photos and re-setting the file's time stamp, among other possible changes (adding GPS coordinates, maybe other changes).  I am trying to neatly undo that unwelcome change.  Ideally, I wouldn't have to abandon my catalog, where I've invested hours over many years labelling and grouping photos (version sets) in Elements 4. So here's what I tried, which didn't work.  I am hoping someone has a suggestion. I hope I am providing enough detail, as this is a bit confusing.
I keep a backup of all my photos on another computer.  I simply map a network drive from the backup PC to the work PC.  Periodically, I use Microsoft's SyncToy to copy all files from work PC to backup PC.  Today, wtihout any Adobe software running, I copied some images back from the backup PC to the work PC using Windows Explorer.  The time stamp in windows now shows the original image time, e.g., 2002.  In the organizer, photos show Date Created=2010 and Date Modified=2002.
For photos taken with an old (year ~2000) camera, which didn't use EXIF, the dates appear correct until the file is opened in the editor.  When I close the file without changing it or saving it, the Date Modified is set to 2010, and it jumps to the bottom of the organizer (which I keep sorted by date). And to add insult to injury, the filesystem timestamp gets updated to 2010.  What do you know, the image now has GPS coordinates (0,0) too.
OK, so now I test with images that include EXIF data.  In the organizer, photos show Date Created=2010 and Date Modified=2004. If I open in the editor and close without changing them, the Date Modified gets updated to 2010 and Windows time stamp gets 2010.
So as far as I can tell, opening an image for viewing in the editor has the same affect as running it through the auto-analyzer.  I am in the habit of opening images in the editor to play with lighting, etc., and then discarding changes.  I don't want timestamps updated when I do this. I am certain autoanalyzer is off in preferences both in the organizer and editor.
Because of all my time invested, I want to make lemonaid of the lemons and keep using the organizer, despite my disagreements with its design. Aside from undoing today's attempted restore, and giving in to the auto-analyzer behavior, do I have any options?
    Thanks.

You’re the victim of multiple PSE bugs.  Besides the Auto-Analyzer mess: Whenever you invoke the Editor, it does the equivalent of File > Write Keyword Tag and then rereads all the photo’s metadata from photo back into the catalog.  There is a bug that prevents PSE from writing the metadata (e.g. the date) into older photos, so when you invoke the Editor, incorrect date information will get read back into the catalog.
Here’s how to recover from the Auto-Analyzer mess:
    1.    Turn off the auto-analyzer in Edit > Preferences > Auto-Analyzer Options.
    2.    Remove all the Smart Tags assigned to your photos:  Select all you photos, right-click and click Remove Keyword Tag > tag for each smart tag.
    3.    Remove all the GPS locations of 0,0 assigned to some of your keyword tags by the Auto-Analyzer:  For each tag, right-click it and click Show On Map.  If its location is 0,0, then right-click the tag and select Remove From Map.
    4.    Remove all the GPS locations of 0,0 assigned to your by images by the Auto-Analyzer:
    a.    Window > Show Map
    b.    Scroll the map until the equator is showing.
    c.    Scroll to Africa.
    d.    There will be a red pin at 0,0.
    e.    Zoom in on the pin until only the ocean is showing around it.
    f.    Click Limit Search To Map Area.
    g.    Edit > Select All.
    h.    Right-click the photos and click Remove From Map.
    5.    Get the metadata in your catalog (date/times, keyword tags, GPS locations, etc.) correctly written into your photos, including your very old photos that PSE trips over: Download the utility psedbtool:
    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/
and run it on your catalog with the -writeMetadata option:
    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/#_Writing_File_Metadata
This will add EXIF metadata to your old photos that currently don’t have it.
    6.    Delete all the ._00_* files created by the Auto-Analyzer and littering your folders:  In Windows Explorer, search all your picture folders for filenames containing “ ._00_” and delete them.
    7.    Going forward, if you continue to use Map View to assign GPS/map locations to photos, PSE will write invalid GPS locations into your photos. There is nothing you can do to stop that – you can only correct it using psedbtool.
A final note: Don’t worry about the Date Created and Date Modified time stamps on your files – they are assigned by Windows when files are created, copied, and modified, and they are mostly out of your control (and PSE’s).  What matters is the date/time the photo was taken, which is recorded in the photo’s EXIF metadata.

  • Auto-Analyzer changes files  -  PSE 8

    Hi!
I have noticed that the Auto-Analyzer in Photoshop Elements 8 does change my JPG-files. What is the analyzer changing within my files? Can this be turned off? Thanks in advance for your help!
    Martin

When the auto-analyzer applies a tag to your photo, it writes the tag into the photo's metadata, which causes the file's last-modified date to change.  The analyzer isn't changing the image, however (or recompressing it).
This behavior is inconsistent with the way the rest of PSE handles keyword tags -- normally, PSE only writes tags when you invoke the File > Write Keyword Tag command.  I believe this inconsistency results from "implementation convenience" -- it was easier for the engineers to implement it that way.

  • How do I turn off Elements Auto Analyzer in Elements 12?

This is really maddening!  I cannot update, nor can I delete a file because this program is holding everything hostage!
I read other information about finding it in the task manager........It is not there!
I do not find it anywhere.  Why should I have to reboot every time I finish a project just to close it?
I am really disappointed in Adobe for this.  Now I am sorry I bought this product.
    Anyone know the secret?

But at your request, you turn off the AutoAnalzyer in the Elements Organizer 12 by going to its Edit Menu/Preferences/MediaAnalysis and disabling all the AutoAnalzyer options under that category. Typically, I delete everything there.
After the disabling, close the program. Then reopen and...
Double check the Task Manager/Processes after you disable the AutoAnalzyer options to assure that this feature is not opening as a process in Task Manager/Processes/named ElementsAutoAnalzyer.exe.
Please let us know the outcome.

  • Auto-analyzer crashes in Premiere Elements 12

I'm loading a number of home videos to my computer.  I've imported a bunch of DV tapes that were recorded direclty on DV successfully; now I'm importing DV tapes that were originally recorded on 8mm tapes, and were transferred to DV tapes.  As a result, there is no timecode on the tapes to identify scene changes.
So I'm importing them in the "Expert" mode and have selected to split scenes by content.  It appears that this is done using the Auto-Analyzer.  However, the auto-analyzer never completes its process, it always crashes on these tapes (I'm now 4 crashes on 4 tapes).  The video (one hours' worth) is imported to the computer successfully, but only as one long scene; I don't get any split scenes.
Any ideas on how to get auto-analyzer to complete successfully, or another way to get split scenes?  System is running Win7, 8GB RAM.
    Thanks in advance.

    jevernham
    Thanks for the follow up.
Trimming clips in the Premiere Elements Preview Window with its Set In and Set Out points is not an automatic process. So, you do not want it.
And, the AutoAnalyzer feature is not able to detect scenes in your footage. So where does that leave us?
    No scenes detected....
1, Have you tried capturing your footage into a program such as Windows Live Movie Maker/Movie Maker or other capturing program to determine if any program can detect and split the scenes in your videos on a consistent basis?
    2. Have you disabled the AutoAnalzyer options in Elements Organizer preferences and then done your DV Capture?
    See Elements Organizer workspace/Edit Menu/Preferences/MediaAnalysis.
    3. Have you completed your DV Capture without Split Scenes and AutoAnalzyer disabled, taken your capture into Project Assets, clicked on Run AutoAnalyzer, and gotten scene detection and scene splitting?
    General Comments
I do not believe that the AutoAnalzyer was ever intended as a video splitting tool, rather a "Smart Tagger" and might split video clips in the process. Today it is a last resort for those who seek it to split video into scenes according to content AFTER capture/import. Please check out one explanation of the AutoAnalzyer and what it is supposed to be doing.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4551932
In much earlier versions of Premiere Elements, the Premiere Elements Capture Window had a Split Scenes by Timecode or Content option and an AutoAnalzyer option. Most recommended that the AutoAnalzyer option not be used in that case because of numerous problems associated with it use there. So, based on that, I am not sure how the program is programmed to differientiate between Split Scenes by Content and AutoAnalzyer's side effect of trying to split video clips into scenes by content.
I work with the AutoAnalyzer disable in the Elements Organizer preferences. And, you the feature on an "on demand" basis when needed. I do not do any DV or HDV firewire captures. If I leave the AutoAnalzyer enabled in Elements Organizer preferences, I find my video split into clip and stacked. I do not want that.
I have not explored capture utilities first hand so I cannot speak to that other than if I did a Google search.
Please review the above, and please update us on your progress.
    Thank you.

  • Close elements auto analyzer

How do I close elements auto analyzer?  I am trying to download a new camera raw version - elements 11 - and it has 2 seconds left but will go no further as the elements auto analyzer will not close. I went to organizer - edit - preferences - media analyzer - un checked run at start up but nothing has changed. Help! I have been strugggling with importing raw files from my Panasoic FZ200 for weeks and was 2 seconds to fixing it!

Thank you! It wasn't as easy as how you presented it but with the help of a friend as well we started with what you suggested and eventually got there. It works! Now my Lightroom 4 won't import the raw from my  Lumix either but I don't think I can handle that today.

  • Disable Adobe Premiere Elements 10 Auto-Analyzer

To complete an elements software update I have to disable the Auto analyzer. But the reason I'm trying to do the update is because the elements constantly thinks it's busy and won't allow anything to work, so I can't get to the elements organiser which is busy to turn the analyzer off. catch 22. What going on?
    Any ideas please. thank you.

I just changed from PSE 11 to 12. With eleven all was fine with the auto analyzer, but with PSE 12 it has become a real pest -using lots of RAM and > 25% of CPU.
Though I unchecked all options the Auto Analyser started every time I opened PSE 12. I also checked the autostart options and the Registry. Finally I renamed the Program, similar to this instruction: http://barbarabrundage.com/2013/10/31/the-elements-12-auto-analyzer-adobes-evil-undead/
This works, but that cannot be the only sulution (apart from using the old version).
I hope someone has a good solution for this annoying part of PSE 12

  • Auto Analyzer in Premier Elements 11

I've never before owned or used any video software.   I just purchased and installed Premier Elements 11.
I searched for "Updates", which the program found.  After starting to download, I received an error dialog to the effect of: -- cannot proceed; must first uninstall "Elements Auto Analyzer".
What the heck was that, I thought.  I had no idea, but I am familiar with the Windows boot procedure, so I went to "msconfig>Startup", and sure enough, I found "Elements Auto Analyzer".  I unchecked it, closed msconfig, and rebooted the computer.  Now that "Elements Auto Analyzer" was not running, the update to Premier Elements 11 downloaded and installed without a problem.
Ok, I am familiar with Windows’ "msconfig"; but what about others?  How do most people update Premier Elements 11?  So I rooted around as I was exploring this brand-new-to-me program.  I stumbled upon "Organizer>Media Analysis>Run Analyzer on System Startup", and its associated checkbox.
So I ask, what is this Media Analysis tool?  Should I leave the box checked, knowing that it then loads this Auto Analyzer tool upon every system startup?  Or should I uncheck the box so that the Auto Analyzer does not automatically load.
If helpful, know that I purchased Premier Elements 11 for the purpose of capturing, editing and burning DVDs from video on my old VHS tapes.
    Thank you for your assistance,
    Howard

As I use a similar program, Adobe Bridge (with Premiere Pro, Photoshop, InDesign, etc.), I am only speculating a bit here.
I would run Auto Analyzer one time (might take a bit, depending on the number of Images and Videos on one's system and the speed of the computer), to establish the Albums (or whatever they are called in Organizer), and then turn it OFF, so it does not fire up, whenever an Image, or Video is added to the system, then run it once more, manually, before using Organizer with PrE. I do not like having a lot of programs running in the background, especially if the are likely to pop up and begin cataloging, whenever I make a simple change, like Coping over some Video files from a flash card. I want complete control.
Now, Steve, who is the guru, on all things PrE, might have different advice, so go with his, over mine, any day.
    Happy editing,

  • R6034 and Auto-Analyzer problems in Photoshop Elements 9.0

When I start the organizer of Photoshop Elements 9.0 I get an error that says:
    Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
    Runtime Error!
    Program: C:\Program File...
    R6034
An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.
Please contact the application's support team for more information
Sometimes clicking okay to this message allows me into the program and sometimes it crashes PE9.
The auto-analyzer is also not working. When I select an image and choose "Run Auto-Analyzer"  it says starting auto-analyzer and then eventually it fails saying it cannot analyze the file.
I have tried several things on the advice of technical support without it helping
    Reinstalling the application
    Reinstalling the visual c++ redistributables 2005, 2008, and 2010.
    Troubleshoot catalog issues
Manually remove Photoshop Elements 9 | Windows
I have also created a new user and tried running the program from a new user.
Nothing has solved the problem. My library is about 10 thousand photos in about 25 gigs of space.
    Any advice?
All the advice I found online about R6034 seems to be bogus help pages filled with spyware, so I'm hoping that someone can help me out.

  • Elements 9 Auto-Analyze Causes Crash

I'm trying a trial version of Photoshop Elements 9.  I've discovered that whenever it tries to do the auto-analyze function, the software crashes.  I had to disable the "Analyze Photos for People Automically" to keep the software from crashing after startup.  But still, it defeats the purpose of being able to do facial recognition which is the main reason why I want to upgrade from Elements 6 to 9.  It crashes even if I try to analyze ONE picture.
I've read other posts but couldn't find any solutions.  Is there a fix for this? Without the facial recognition, there's not much point in upgrading.  In fact it forces me to look at other alternatives such as Google Picassa which does facial recognization just fine on my computer.  But I'd prefer to stick with Elements if possible.
    Any help would be appreciated.
I'm using Windows XP SP3 fully patched.  Photoshop Elements 9 is fully up to date.   My 256MB Geforce 6200 video card has the latest drivers installed. I've got 17 GB of free space on my hard drive and 1.5 GB of RAM.

I did have everything unchecked in the Media Analysis preferences.  It would still crash whenever I manually ran the Auto-Analyzer from the context menu or the "Start People Recognition" button.
I went ahead and checked just the "Face" option but the results are the same.  When I click the "Start People Recognition" button, it brings up a box that says "Analyzing Your Media", it pauses for several seconds and then it crashes.
Any other suggestions?  Do you know if this a software issue or a hardware issue?

Interesting, and dangerous.  I recommend that everyone keep the Auto-Analyzer turned off.  Not only can the Auto-Analyzer hog your computer, it will corrupt your map locations, split your video clips into "scene groups" that are hard to get rid of, modify the date/time of every file, crash frequently, and litter your folders with temporary files:

    Hello Steve
I have attached a couple screen shots.  Let me know if you have any trouble seeing, I can always post them to another location.
    You say
You can launch the Elements Organizer from the Premiere Elements Welcome screen when you first start the program.
I have attached the welcome screen where I see no way to launch Ele organizer.  What am I missing?  The top menu items are all unaccessable.
    You say
The option to break scenes by content is on the the Capture screen, which opens when you select the DV Capture option under the Get Media button under the Premiere Elements Edit tab.
I can find no such option except one grayed out under clip back at the project screen.  Again I have attached a couple screen shots to show you what I see.
There must be something obvious that I am missing or that is different about my APE4 instance.
    Happy Sunday

In order to turn off the background Auto Analyzer, you need to be in the Elements Organizer program. Not Premiere Elements. You can launch the Elements Organizer from the Premiere Elements Welcome screen when you first start the program.
The option to break scenes by content is on the the Capture screen, which opens when you select the DV Capture option under the Get Media button under the Premiere Elements Edit tab. This will only affect how the program performs with freshly captured DV video, of course.
