Undo deleted my file
I was trying to copy an alias of a file on a remote server. Accidently, I used Cmd-drag instead of Cmd-Option-drag. This just moved the file. So I hit Cmd-Z to Undo. Well, Undo removed the file from the new location, but it didn't put it back in the old location. The file is just gone. Unless someone knows where it might be hidden.
P.S. There's a backup somewhere but IT has to get involved and it could take days.
"nadandeo", a little bit late reply but hope you can still hear. ^^
If you have made a backup, you’re OK. (For those who don’t know, iTunes automatically makes a backup, when you connect your iPou touch to your PC/Laptop).
Without a backup, you CANNOT recover your lost notes, except with recovery software. Here’s a USERGUIDE: How to recover lost iPod NOTES. Do your research, but from experience I can tell you that this is the only way around it. In the future, always make backups. Better safe, than sorry.
Don't fall for anything people tell you , do your own research and check company reviews.

Can you undo deleting a song/ file/ project ?
So I was about to export this song I just edited (it came out PERFECT) but when I tried to export via mail, it said I did not have space. So I started to delete other songs and I forgot to uncheck the song i wanted to export and now it got deleted along with the others. Is there a way to undo deleting a file? I am really feeling down because it has my singer's vocals and we worked days on it ! please help!
Is there a way to undo deleting a file?
Only if you had made a backup of your iPad before you started to delete projects. Then you could restore the iPad from your most recent backup. Other than that, deleting is final.

Undo deleted photo, how to recover a deleted file in iPad mini

Why won't preview let me delete all files (instead of all but one)
In all OSX versions up to snow leopard in preview there was the option to select all open items and move the files to the trash. For some reason unknown to me, in 10.8.5 mountain lion that option no longer exists. Now preview lets me delete all files except one. If you have 2 images open you can move 1 to the trash. If you have 99 open you can move 98 to trash and if you have 1 open, you cannot move it to trash. Is there some code available where I can undo this restriction?
Do you also have them on another computer, iPad or iPhone, IF you do then it may be syncing them back

I accidentally deleted photo files, can I retrieve them?
I accidentally deleted photo files, is there any way to undo or retireve them?
I spoke too soon! The Picassa 3 photos do not import well into my elements
program! I just don't understand why, when I accidentally deleted the
files from elements, they don't show up in the trash bin. I looked/searched for
the pictures...they seem gone! Is it time to call in a tech? I really
appreciate your help with this, you can imagine how distraught it is to lose
about 6,000 pictures!!!

Is there a way to 'undo' deleting images from iPhoto? I've also emptied the trash, and deleted them from my camera! YIKES!!!!!
Restore from your back up? Or use a file recovery utility such as File Salvage.

Undo delete on Pages for iPhone?
Hi,
i just installed mountain lion.
Documents in the cloud is nice but:
If you delete a document from the cloud on your mac i will be in your local trash.
but
if you delete it with your iphone its gone for ever.
Is there Undo delete on Pages or an other way to retreive a deleted document on the iphone.
Is the also backed up through timemachine ?
Thanks, ChrisHi TM,
The sign on the door is a bit misleading, and you're not the first (or even the first today) to come to this Pages (Mac version) forum to ask a question about Pages for iOS.
Not many of us use iPad, so your question will be better served in the iWork for iOS community.
Actually, the question seems more of an OS question than a Pages one, as finding files is more of a System task than one done by the application. Unless you are searching within the Pages app, an even better place for your question would likely be the Using iPad community.
The two links will take you to the named community.

Deleted .DS_Store files, Now my drive is EMPTY! Help!
In Mac's Terminal application I used a command I found on Adobe's website to delete .DS_Store files because I thought I had some corrupt ones. The command was to delete all of them on the entire machine. Since they are not critical files, I figured what the heck. Well, maybe I typed something wrong. I know Terminal is very touchy (now I know). But all of the files on my external drive are gone. When I double-click the drive icon, the window shows 0 items. Can anyone tell me what went wrong and how to undo the problem. I think all the files are still on the drive, there's just no directory to view them - so it says there's 0 files. Help please!
Here's the commands I entered in Terminal. Note that the first line is the command that was supposed to erase the .DS_Store files. The second line asked for my password. When I entered it, it may have deleted the files, but then it gave me no new command prompt. So everything you see from the "sudo" on is things I entered trying to get a new prompt. So I think that's where I screwed something up.
neals-imacs-imac-g5-5:Clients iMac$ sudo find / -name ".DS_Store" -depth -exec rm {} \;
Password:
sudo
sudo ls
neals-imacs-imac-g5-5:~ iMac$ sudo ls
neals-imacs-imac-g5-5:Clients iMac$ sudo
usage: sudo -K | -L | -V | -h | -k | -l | -v
usage: sudo [-HPSb] [-p prompt] [-u username|#uid]
{ -e file [...] | -i | -s | <command> }
neals-imacs-imac-g5-5:Clients iMac$ sudo ls
Password:
By the way, the Adobe article that showed how to delete the .DS_Store files (in case that helps) is at: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/168/tn_16831.htmlI just did the same exact thing (but recovered!). I hope you didn't empty your recycle bin/trash yet! Your library information is there - get it out!
The instructions on the web are a bit obtuse - what you need to do is delete ONLY the "iTunes Music" folder within the default iTunes location; I deleted the ENTIRE "iTunes" folder and saw exactly what you do now. You need to restore the "iTunes Library.itl" and "iTunes Music Library.xml" files, and you'll be back in business.
Not sure how you'll recover if you can't get those files back... -
Problems deleting/moving files
Ok I'll try to explain this as clearly as I can...
Recently I got messages saying my memory was full.
So I decided to move a large amount of files to an external drive. I selected all the files I wanted to move and dragged them to my external drive.
When I was doing that, instead of landing in my drive, they ended up on my desktop. Which resulted into a freeze.
I rebooted my macbook to resolve that problem. Instead I got messages saying my memory is full. Which is what I was trying to resolve in the first place.
Now I can't remove files because my macbook keeps freezing on start up (cus it's trying to load my files on my desktop, for which it has not enough memory).
So I can't access finder to clear my memory because my memory is full.
I'm stuck in an endless loop of trying to clear memory...
Any ideas on how to resolve this?
I tried rebooting endlessly...
I even tried to do a recovery, but alas... Not enough memory available for that...I have to disagree as Ive always been able to use it to do these functions, just not with the latest version. Do you mean to tell me that you should not be able to 'undo' delete as this is not in its function?!!

How to delete when file in use by the finder?
I have two files in my trash which won't delete. I get the error that they are being used by another program. Holding down option, using secure empty trash, using the terminal method of deleting the trash.. none of them work.
So I did the terminal command: lsof /path-to-file and found out it was being used by Finder. I don't think I can exactly quit the Finder process in Activity Monitor.. so how can I get these files out of my trash? Thanks. Unfortunately, when I quit finder and try to delete the files in the trash by the following command:
sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash/*
It tells me "Directory not empty". Argghh..
I feel like I've tried everything. Can someone give me some other suggestions? Thanks -

I am getting above error while deleting a file which is in a folder which inturn in workspaceHere is the problem I have with deleting my folder. I had created a WD project TaxTool and and added the DC to my SC. There were obviously some checkedout activities. Being new to this, I deleted the project directly without checking in the activities. Now I have folder TaxTool/_comp with nothing underneath on the DTR server and on my client. I am unable to checkout TaxTool for delete but the checkout of _comp folder fails in NWDS with the following error:
<b>EDIT (FAILED: server response: Conflict [(pre||post)-condition failed: x:no-exclusivity-with-existing-checked-out-resources]) comp (C:\JDI\JDIDEMO1\intelJDI_TEST\dev\inactive\DCs\intel.com\TaxTool\_comp\)</b>
If I try the same from the DTR shell, I get this following error:
<b>Unexpected problem occurred during executing command.Lockfile "C:\Documents and
Settings\bvedamur\.dtr\.syncdbs\5b0d8b2110a7a29883734c0407462df8.syncdbM.lock" is already in use by another process.</b>
I am the only user in the system (doing R&D) and I have tried Sync and Delete. Nothing works. Help appreciated.
Thx

Does Time Machine erase previously saved files if, say, photos are deleted from the Macbook upon the next update, or will they be stored indefinately despite the current status of the files stored on the computer? Eg. can I bckup photo files to a Seagate 1T disc and then delete them to make more room on the computer in the knowlwdge that they are always going to be on the Seagate disc? Sorry if this is very elementary but I have not used a back up before like this, and am not sure how successive backups are overlaid or retained. Thanks!!
TM is not designed to do what you ask. As Allan wrote TM is an incremental backup not an archival solution.
If you delete a file from the HD it will eventually be removed from the TM backup (if it ever makes it on to the backup at all).
How long before it is removed depends on a number of factors, TM disk drive size being one factor but not the only one.
Material that is impossible to replace and is important to you (image files usually fitting that description) need to be backed up to as least one other drive and preferably more for long term storage. -
Deleting individual Files from trash folder
This should be a simple question...Is there a way to permanently delete individual files/folders from the trash folder instead of emptying the entire trash folder? TIA, Scott
As Allan says, no... the trash *should not* be used as a repository for files you're not sure you want to trash yet. Not only is this extremely hazardous, as it's easy to accidentally empty the trash, but it also puts all those questionable files outside the reach of Time Machine, so they will not be backed up. If you need a "Pending Trash" folder, create one on your desktop, and then put files in the trash only once you are truly ready to delete them.

Why does iTunes create disk errors when deleting movie files?
I use a Macbook Pro, OSX 10.7.5. When I delete movie file from my iTunes library I get disk errors. I need to option boot select the recovery disk and repair the disk. Deleting a movie file I have placed on my desktop with finder does not create any errors. Most of the movie files are created as .m4v movies. They all play just fine with my Apple TV. I have tried turning off the Apple TV and rebooting before I delee files but nothing seems to work.
Any ideas?
LanceIf you let iTunes organise your media folders then that is the way it is. An option would be to change the Media Kind to TV Show which would gather them togther in one folder, but in a different part of the library.
