Undo history in Logic 7.2

There seems to be no undo history in Logic 7.2 when working with midi instruments: I can only undo one action and that's it.
Or is undo history restricted to audio?

I experimented a little and this is what I found out:
I do have 15 steps of undo, as that is what I indicated in the preferences.
I only see the last edit action in the edit menu between file and audio. When undoing the last action I can undo the previous one.
But there's no such thing as a list. Could it be that this is limited to Logic Pro, although it is being discussed in the manual?

  • Apple - Z "undo" locks up logic after recording

    I am overdubbing a single track on an existing audio project and if I attempt to delete the most recent aborted take using "apple - Z" as an "undo recording" function rather than pressing the backspace key (to delete the audio). I get the infinite pinwheel of death and must force quit...
    Why?

    I'm back on this same project again, and it still locks up when I try to UNDO after recording, whether I use 'apple-Z' or select 'Undo Recording" from the menu.
    I've tried deleteing the Undo History, resetting all preferences and everything else, and Logic still freezes. I've even tried updating to OSX4.5 and Logic 7.2...
    Anyone?

  • Undo History box (question)

    In PSE9 on my MAC I tick the undo history to show it down the right and when I shut PSE9 it stays on teh desktop and I need to tick it every time I open PSE. I'd just like to tick and have it there always... oh and not get it left behind on my destop.

    I've done it ! I have effects / content showing, followed by Layers/undo history and finally adjustments. I'd not come out of the box to think laterally! It was a simeple case of reducing the size of teh layers box to allow Undo to fit properly. By resizing the boxes Elements now opens and closes exactly as it used to. Phew. Thank you everyone.

  • Undo History

    In AA 1.5 in the Edit view when the mouse was hovered over the Undo/Redo buttons a pop up told you what you were about to undo. Please can we at least have th.is function back. Even better would be a full undo history for both Multitrak and Edit views so that you could instantly select a stage to go back to.

    ...and is there any way it could look like Photoshop, a nice layers pallette and floating toolbars and...and...and.... In fact, could you not just get Photoshop to write the music :D

  • Undo history will be lost message

    Whenever I make a change to any file in a book, when I save the changed file I get the message "Cannot be undone. Undo history will be lost. OK to continue?" I an unable to find the setting that will make this message go away. Can anyone help?

    Someone has already answered this question, but all my efforts to retrieve it through Forum Search have drawn a blank! I'm pretty sure there's a setting in the .ini file, but wouldn't like to guess any farther.

  • Undo history in PSE6

    I've just upgraded from PSE2 to PSE6 and I can't find the Undo History. Is there somewhere in the preferences that I have to set up the number of levels that I want to keep? Any suggestions?

  • In Elements 8, is there a way to save the undo history?

    Often times, I cannot evaluate how a filter etc,  will effect a picture until after it is printed out.  If I close the file, the undo history is wiped out.  Is there a way to export the undo list to a text file or something similar so that I can review it afterwards.  Right now, I used a pen and paper to record each change but sometimes I get sloppy.  Thanks in advance.

    No, unfortunately the ability to save history as a text file is only in full photoshop. Some people take a screenshot of the undo history palette, but of course that only gives the steps you took, not the settings for each one.

    Quit the editor, then restart it while holding down cmd+shift+option. Keep the keys down till you see a window asking if you want to delete the settings file. You do.

  • Layer selection not tied to undo history when Effects panel is open.

    Has anyone else noticed a strange behaviour with undo history when the Effects Panel is open?
    Try this:
    1. Have the layers, history and effects panel all visible at the same time.
    2. open an image
    3. duplicate the layer
    4. make a new blank layer
    5. grab the brush tool and paint two brush strokes on the new blank layer
    6. go back to the duplicated layer below the blank layer and paint two brush strokes
    7. in the history panel go back in the history states and watch the layers panel
    Now close the effects panel
    1. in the history panel select the last history state
    2. go back in the history states
    Notice a difference?

    I see the behavior and I'll log a bug report for it. Very strange, but good catch that it's the Effects panel that is the source!
    27Prac, make sure the Effects panel is up, that is key. But I tested on both Windows and Mac and see it on each.

  • InDesign's Save As resets the Undos history

    I was wondering why InDesign was developed so that it erases history on Save As. What is the logic here?

    Photoshop and Illustrator are not InDesign.
    I don't know about Illustrator, but Photshop can actually only "undo" a single step. Everything else is handled through the History panel, and is limited to the number of steps you choose to save in the prefs, plus any snapshots (snapshots would be useful in ID, too, but that's a different discussion). I'd never noticed that you could step back through a save as. ID will undo right back to the state when the file was last opened or the last Save As, whichever is more recent, regardless of the number of steps that might be.

  • How do i 'undo' changes in logic instruments?

    Can anyone help with this please? im using Ultrabeat and cant work out how to 'UNDO' changes - step back to where i was before i changed a setting etc. I'm new to Logic and could really do with a hand with this one. I dont want to have to save before i make every alteration.

    The best way is to save each variation as a setting. Then you can just call up the various settings right from that instrument's settings menu and make comparisons.
    Suggest that the first time you save a setting for any particular instrument that you create a new folder from within the save setting dialog box. Give it a meaningful name (i.e., title of the song you're working on or whatever). Then save the settings in there. That way your settings for each instrument remain organized. If you don't take that approach, each setting you save will appear in the general settings menu for the instrument, and it can sure get cluttered up after a while.

  • Upgrading from 10.2 to 10.3 w/ history of logic board failure

    Please forgive if this has already been asked but...
    I have an IBook G3 that has had 2 logic board failures in the last 2 years. Is it worth upgrading to 10.3 (Panther) w/ my history? I cannot upgrade most applications ( Itunes, Safari, AOL...) b/c I'm not running 10.3. I don't have the money to upgrade but need access to these things.
    thankx

    You can just install 10.5, assuming the machine supports it. It needs to be fast (> 1Ghz) and have at least 2 GB RAM. Otherwise, you'll be spending a lot more time at your mother's.
    Don't attempt an "upgrade" of 10.2. Back up the data, then reformat the drive, then install Leopard. Don't run any migration utility. Set everything up fresh. Reinstall updated versions of all software that will run on Leopard. The only thing you want to copy from the old machine are documents.

  • I don't understand undo.History

    My expectation for app.undoHistory was that anything I can undo in the UI is listed in that array.
    This does not seem to be the case.
    In my current tests the only way I find to get
    b anything
    into that array is the script "FindChangeByList.jsx". No action and no script of mine add anything undoable, it seems.
    That makes me suspect that I lack some elementary piece of understanding...
    What gives?
    Thank you
    Gerald

    Thank you Shane,
    thinks: I see my second post before Shane's answer although it was written later. Weird.
    For those interested, this seems to work rather nicely:
    var anUndoStack = app.activeDocument.undoHistory;
    anUndoStack.splice(40);
    var anUndoName = app.activeDocument.undoName;
    var myDialog = app.dialogs.add({name:"An Seite ausrichten"});
    with(myDialog.dialogColumns.add()){
    var myUndoDropdown = dropdowns.add({stringList:anUndoStack, selectedIndex:0});
    var myResult = myDialog.show();
    if(myResult == true){
    var mySteps = myUndoDropdown.selectedIndex;
    myDialog.destroy();
    for (n= 0; n<mySteps;n++) { app.activeDocument.undo(); }
    } else{
    myDialog.destroy();

  • How to view exif info in right column together with histogram, undo history, info etc.?

    Photoshop Elements 8
    I am enclosing a screendump from Picasa 3 which illustrates what I am looking for.

    If you want to see that kind of data in the pse editor,
    Go to File>File Info>Camera Data.
    If you have a camera raw file and open it from the pse editor,
    you can see this data in the camera raw plugin dialog in
    the upper right corner.
    Elements won't display exif data in the info panel.

  • QT movie suddenly becomes jittery in logic pro! Is this a bug? Please Help

    OK, this is very odd behavior, I must have changed some song setting here.
    My Quick time movie jumps frames and doesn't play smoothly on one song but if i open it in another session it plays fine.
    I first thought it was a CPU or hardrive problem but after removing all the audio and plugins from the problematic session the QT movie still behaves in the same odd way.
    What did I change that its behaving this way?
    Thanks,
    Shil

    It has become such a problem that I've had to resort by running the video from a second computer using midi to synchronise.

    i am pretty sure i know what this problem is....it is a RAM issue. what is happening is that as you run out of RAM, the OS 'pages out' memory to the virtual memory on your system drive. if your drive is full or a lot of memory is being used as virtual memory. this is why you are getting good performance at first, it starts falling over as your system drive is being driven hard, and rebooting helps refreshing the process.
    the solution would be to:
    • ensure you have plenty of RAM
    • ensure that you have at least (as bare minimum) over 30% of your system drive free (actually the minimum should be around 50%)
    • you have virtual memory switched on for samples inside logic
    • you only run logic if it is using a lot of memory for stuff.
    • reduce your track count if you don't need it.
    • reduce your undo history in logic. it absolutely chews up RAM.
