Undoing Easy Ease

So, I have a keyframe for which I appled the "Easy Ease" keyframe assistant. Now when I add a new keyframe to the timeline for that layer it automatically creates the little hourglass "Easy Ease" keyframe marker. Can I still insert normal keyframes? Is there a way to undo these keyframe assistants once done?
Thanks for any help. I'd appreciate it.

Thanks for that, but what I really want to know is if there's an easy way to undo these interpolation options once applied.
For example, let's say I scale a box from 10% to 50% between two keyframes - the scaling values increase linearly. Now I apply the "Easy ease" keyframe assistant and adjust things using the graph editor - the value changes at different speeds over time. Later, I reopen the file and decide that I want to get rid of the keyframe assistant and the graph edits, having the keyframe revert to the behavior it exhibited when I first placed it. Is there a way to do this easily? Is there a button or option that will simply turn that little hourglass keyframe back into a diamond and let me start over?

Sorry guys for the dumb question, but i'm just learning After Effects and I can't find an answer anywhere...
so, if I hit F9 and easy ease my effects, and after a few actions decide to undo it (control+z is out of the question at this point) - how do i do that?

  • Easy Ease vs Easy Ease In/Out

Newbie question here what's the difference between Easy Ease vs Easy Ease In/Out?
    Thanks,
    Kristin.

Easy Ease creates an ease on both sides of the keyframe. Ease In adds it before the keyframe. Ease out adds it after the keyframe.
Easy Ease is a combination of Ease In and Ease Out.

  • Easier  Ease In - Out

Is there an easier way to use the Ease in or Out?
Right now I "right click-Temporal Interploation - choose Ease In or out.
I have to do the 4 times for each clip.
There ought to be an easier and faster way.
    Tom

After a bit more testing, - here's what seems to work.
I made a Preset which sets the initial Key Frames and Ease Out.
I then apply it to the beginning of a new clip.
Adjust my starting key frames and then go to the end of the clip and click on the Add Key Frame button.
It automatically turns the ending key frames into Ease In Points.
I then make my adjustments to the ending key frames and I'm done -

  • [Easy Ease In] keyboard short cut misbehaving?

[SHIFT+F9] on my Windows 7 64/AE:CC is not working.
[F9] & [SHIFT+CTRL+F9] have no issues and function as intended, but [SHIFT+F9] fails to do so.

Yes, this has been there for a while. Still haven't figured out why, but seems to be something with Win 7... Used to work without issues on Win Vista still...

  • Is there a way to set the default level of keyframe easing?

I'm currently using the graph editor to smooth my ease-in / ease-out keyframes with 100% influence.  I'm having to adjust the easing of each keyframe individually.
Is there a way to set the default level to 100%, so that I can just select "Easy Ease In" and have it apply without having to go into the graph editor?  It would save a lot of time.

No, there's not a way to do that, but it's a good feature request. You can submit feature requests here:

  • How to "ease in" to a key frame

    Hi
is there some way i can ease in to a key frame, so that for instance if the key frame was a motion keyframe rather than the motion start sharply when the keframe was reached the motion  started slowly a defined time before the key frame  and built up to the speed defined by the next key frame along
sort of like a ramp before the first key frame so then there would also be a ramp down to the motion stopping at the second key frame
if yes what would the process be called
    thanks

Select the keyframe and press F9 for Easy Ease or
Select the keyframe and press Shift+F9 for Easy Ease In or
Select the keyframe and press Shift + Cmnd/Ctrl + F9 for Easy Ease Out or
Right click on the selected keyframe and go to Keyframe Assistant, or
Go to Animation> Keyframe Assistant > and choose an option.
Notice how the keyboard shortcuts are listed in the right column. Learn them. It will save you a bunch of time.
For more options select the graph editor, pick your property, the use the controls there to control the speed or the value of the keyframes.
    Hope this helps.

  • After effects CC 2014 transparency properties of pre comps, collapse transformation on, no longer keyframeable???!!!

    Hey there,
lately I'm using After effects CC 2014. Now I had to make the experience, after optimizing (collapse transformation) the pre comp, the global property transparency is no longer working.
I can make keyframes but the pre comp acts like my easy ease keyframes are hold keyframes. Btw if the collapse transformation button is unchecked it works fine but than i don't have the optimization features. It's a catch 22. Sure, I can go into my pre comp and set the keyframes there, but this is pretty annoying and seriously not the way to work.
So is that a bug in CC 2014?
    Help is needed.
    Computer specs:
    Mac osX 10.9.4
    2 x 2,4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon

    Thanks for any advice

Layer styles render in a different order so lots of things can get fouled up with you use them. They are still usable in complex situations, you just have to apply them in the right place in your composite. I've never found a situation where I needed a Layer Style and another effect that I have not been able to work around the limitation.
There are other things that change the render order. After Effects only does one thing at a time. The basic render order is listed right in the timeline view. Here's a sample.
Basic effect with Layer Style turned off:
First Mask 1 is applied to the layer, then Mask 2 is subtracted creating the hole
Then Fast Blur is applied, then Bevil Edges to create the button with the soft edges
Then the Transform controls take over and the anchor point is evaluated, the position reported, then the scale, then the rotation, and finally the opacity
Then the Layer Style is applied.
In my button design I want to apply a stroke to the button so that I looks like this but with the soft base and a stroke on the inside hole:
But, as you can see I had to turn off the Fast Blur to get the stroke to work because the Layer Style Stroke is calculated from the alpha channel, which fast blur has made 76 pixels wide so with Fast Blur on I get this:
The solution to my problem is to pre-compose and add the layer style to the pre-comp, then use an adjustment layer with masks for the fast blur to get what I wanted in the first place:
So here's what AE is doing with the final project.
    The background layer is rendered
The pre comp is added to the mix
Inside the pre-comp the layer is rendered
Mask 1 is added to give rounded corners
Mask 2 is subtracted to punch the hole
Layer styles are applied to add the stroke
Back in the main comp the pre-comp is rendered
Bevel Edges is applied to the pre-comp using the alpha chanel
Now the adjustment layer is added to the mix
Mask 1 is added and this limits the area in the underlying layers where effects applied to the adjustment layer will  work
Mask 2 is subtracted from the adjustment layer poking a hole in the effects
The fast Blur is added blurring only the bottom edge of the button
There you have it. An in depth tutorial on the rendering order in AE and how to use nesting and pre-comps to reorder effects to get what you want.

  • Camera Z-Axis Movement Shutters

    Hello,
I've encountered this issue before and was hoping somebody could help me solve this most frustrating quirk.
When I do a slow Z-Axis move with a camera, either pushing in or pulling out, near the end of the movement on the easy-ease, the image shutters as it is coming to a stop - as if I am on a bumpy road and not a dolly track.
I am using Illustrator graphics with rasterize on.
Any help much appreciated as it renders some moves not usable.  I don't understand why the movement isn't smooth like a track left/right is.
    Thanks!
    Comp: 1920x1080
    23.976 FPS
    Square Pixels
    Full Resolution
    Classic 3D Renderer
    180 shutter, -90 shutter phase
16 samples per frame, 256 adaptive space limit

This problem is usually referred to as a critical panning speed.
Here is a link to an article that I wrote on the subject.
    http://kb2.adobe.com/community/publishing/908/cpsid_90843.html
While less likely to happen on a push in or out from the space, the edges may still judder or strobe. Make sure that motion blur is turned on, and then try changing the speed a little bit here or there. Also, make sure that you are getting smooth playback. Depending on the codec you used to render your final product, this may be just a playback issue. I can't tell anything though, without seeing more details about your project.

  • How do I extend the end of a video clip?

    Hi,
I have placed my video clip in my composition and at the end of it, I want to extend the last frame of that video all the way to the end. Just freeze the last frame. How do I do this?
I searched this forum using search terms like "extend" and "freeze video" but found no results.
    Thanks,
    JayGatz

By dragging the last keyframe, you are stretching the length of the entire clip (slowing it all down), which you probably don't want.
To just hold the last frame of a clip:
    1) select clip
    2) enable time remap (ctrl-alt-t)
    3) goto outpoint (o)
    4) set time remap keyframe
    5) delete end keyframe (the one to the right)
    6) drag layer endpoint to desired spot (you can also goto time where you want clip to end and hit alt ])
The reason you need to create a keyframe at the last frame is Time Remap places a keyframe after the last frame, on a blank frame. If you were to leave it like that, extend out the layer length, it'd be blank. By placing a keyframe on the last full frame, it holds that frame.
    Hope it makes sense.
PS Not sure if you were aware, but you can use whatever keyframes you want with time remap. easy ease, hold, etc.

  • SWF EXPORT

Hi, I'm new to after effects. I'm having trouble with exporting swf files correctly they always end up not working, with a huge file size, or in bad quality. what am i doing wrong?

    Ok sorry, my bad.
I only got after affects a few weeks.
    so,
I'm working on a typographic animation. each word is seperate png file, and there's 1 jpeg as background.
i have 11 layers in my comp. and basicly what i did was move them around with position keyframes and scale keyframes.
i have no effects on there, i only used easy ease function.
my comp is 310 x 160 px (web banner) 7 sec. and  24 fps
the biggest png in there is 100kb so thats not it.
and i played around with my export my export settings, too adjust the file size. either way: its too large or too minimum quality.
    Enough info / any solutions?

  • Camera randomly moves forward then backward

    Hey all,
I have a camera parented to a null that is being used for this shot. The camera zooms close to the planet very quickly, and then i wanted it to approach slowly (like a coming out of warp shot). Seems easy enough.. The camera slows down at Z position =40,000. The next keyframe is set to 41,000 so that it moves slowly forward . The problem is, the camera way overshoots the keyframe value then backs down to 41k. When i look at the graph i see that it curves up, but it does that on the  first set of keyframes as well and the camera doesn't make any unwanted movements. Does anyone know what could be going on? The keyframes are easy-eased, but i tried turning that off and the camera still did this movement.

Take a look at the path of the null you're using to drive the camera in a top view. Select the G key to select the Pen tool. Take a close look at the middle keyframe. You'll see bezier handles extending past the last keyframe. Hold down the Alt/Option key on your keybard and click on the second keyframe in the Comp panel. You'll see the Bezier handles disappear. Your bounce is not gone.
The other option is to select the keyframe in the timeline, then right click, go to Keyframe Interpolation.
    Set Spatial Interpolation to Linear.
Both do the same thing. I prefer the second Pen Tool>Convert Vertex method because I often want to adjust the Spatial interpolation, especially if there's a curve.
This happens when you have a layer moving quickly, then you move forward a few frames and move the layer a little further. If you set the starting and ending keyframe first, then back up and set the middle keyframe and adjust it's position in the comp window or the change the timing in the timeline, you almost never get this problem.

  • After Effects:CC, Shift+F9 stopped working, and Browse Presets does nothing

While working with my Easy Ease, the SHIFT+F9 just no longer works or hasn't since installation. SHIFT+CTRL+F9, or F9 work as intended.
(I checked the pref text file for my keyboard short cuts and SHIFT+F9 is assigned correctly)
Now when I create a preset then wish to view or browse my presets I click Animation > Browse Preset, and nothing happens.
(Made a shortcut to my preset folder)
    Windows Enterprise 7 X64, 8gb ram.

In CC you have to install Bridge separately. That will fix the browse presets problem.
The answer to your other question is down about 3 or 4 topics in this forum.

  • What resolution to scan photos for viewing in Premiere?

I am currently undertaking a documentary and will be using a lot of still photographs that I want to pan and zoom with.. I am scanning the photos at 400dpi and you can go in quite close in Photoshop with no distortion but in Premiere it has no resolution at all?? When I bump up the dpi to 1200 it says the image is too big to bring into Premiere... So before I go scanning my hundreds of photos I need to sort out this problem..
Probably something really simple but can anyone help me???

The max size for Premiere Pro is 4096X4096 if I remember correctly.
If you want to scan larger than that, you can pick the best part of the image and use Photoshop to scale it down.
Or, use After Effects to do the zoom in, since AE can handle 30,000X30,000 IIRC.
You might even find Photoshop Extended's timeline sufficient for zooming (although no "easy ease" is available to my knowledge).
