Undoing superscript shortcut

Hi folks. I'm a high school science teacher so I use both superscripts and subscripts pretty often. I know the keyboard shortcuts to sub/superscripts but is there a keyboard shortcut to return the font to normal?

Have you tried typing the shortcut again? Many times these commands are "toggles" & the same command to turn something on will also turn it off, like Command-B for bold.

  • Superscript shortcut broken?

I use a lot of subscripts and superscripts in my field. In iWeb from iLife '06 on my MacBook, the subscript shortcut works (control-apple-minus) but the superscript shortcut does not (control-apple-plus). Does anyone else have this problem? The superscript shortcut simply makes the selected characters' font bigger, as if I'd typed the apple-plus shortcut.

You are right! For superscript I have to hit a 4th key, shift. That makes the shortcut shift-control-apple-equals. Ouch!
This is inconsistent with the subscript shortcut which only needs 3 keys pressed. And is not consistent with the bigger-font/smaller-font shortcuts that I use all the time, which are simply apple-minus and apple-equals. I hope Apple can change superscript to be just control-apple-equals.
Is there a way to submit suggestions like that?

  • Superscript shortcut no longer working

Initially the shortcut for superscript worked but, it is no longer working.  I have to use format/font/baseline/superscript to turn on and off.  A real pain without the shortcut.
During one of my Pages classes the instructor added the character map to the tool bar and ever since the shortcut does not work.  Not sure it really has anything to do with it.

What shortcut are you using? The standard shortcut, which works here, is Control & Command & +. That is the + key next to the 6 on the number pad part of the keyboard. If you have a laptop, or the small keyboard without the number pad, or you want to use the alphabetic part of the keyboard, then the combination is Shift & Control & Command & =.

  • 'Undo' Keyboard Shortcut Not Working

My usual keyboard shortcut for Edit > Undo (command + shift + z) does not work anymore.
This happens across all applications, from Apple default apps to Adobe CC suite.
I can't even edit it through each applications preferences or via System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts
Has anybody else encounter this issue? I've no idea what's causing this.
    Thanks

    Hi Tom
    FYC:
This seems to be a Leopard problem with foreign (not US English) languages and keykoards.
Accidentially I found a workaround, consider the Mac to be rebooted:
    - Open International.
    - Drag English to be first language.
    - Drag <your language> back to first position.
    - Close International.
    - Open FCE 3.5 or FCE 4 and all keyboard shortcuts will work fine.
    - This will be permanent until next reboot.
    No such problems under Tiger!
I already addressed this 100x to Apple Feedback since I installed Leopard in Nov 2007. But unfortunately they do not hear me.

  • Undo keyboard shortcut won't work

I have quite a bizaare problem - the keyboard shortcut for undo will work after I restart my computer, but after awhile, it simply stops working.  I am thus forced to click on Edit->Undo every time I want to undo something.  Once the shortcut stops working, it applies to all applications.  I have not been able to identify any "trigger" which causes it to stop working.  I've tried to "Restore defaults" in the Keyboard shortcuts tab under the Keyboards menu, but this didn't have any effect.  Any ideas?

for some reason this zoom shortcut won't work.
What zoom are you talking about?
The View > Zoom In command in Safari or Preview?
The Universal Access > Zoom In function?
The Zoom In command in some other app, eg, InDesign?
    Some other Zoom entirely?
Another user assured me that "cmd-+" is the shortcut also in that keyboard.
If we're talking about (b) and (1), then this 'other user' (his initials wouldn't be TG, would it?) was right. My keyboard is US QWERTY, and, if I switch to Italian Pro, ⌘-+ works. However, as the 'other user' has already told you, to do ⌘-+ with the Italian Pro keylayout on the US QWERTY keyboard, you have to press simultaneously the keys labelled ⌘ and ] -- as you can easily see in Keyboard Viewer.

  • Superscript for numbers in a message

Can Mail do superscript for numbers I.e., "3rd", or "14th", with the letters raised and smaller? Can Mail be defaulted for this, or is it just for word processors to do?
    Bill

You can go to System Preferences > Language & Text > Text > Symbol and Text Substitution and add your superscript shortcuts. Use your Character Viewer to create 2nd = 2ᴺᴰ, 3rd = 3ᴿᴰ, etc. Once you have those set up, you'll need to enable Text Replacement/Substitution in the apps you use.
For Mail.app, you need to start a new email, then go to Edit > Substitutions > Text Replacement. This menu item is not available unless you have a new email composition window up. All your superscripts should now properly format.

  • The Undo/Redo features on Mac are killing me.

The Undo and Redo features on Mac are killing me when I'm editing codes online via ANY browsers. Undo/Redo does not replicate exactly the history state of documents whenever I try to go back thee or six steps behind.
Let's say my codes were working fine. Then I messed and I want to go 3 or 4 steps behind (when everything was working fine). Doing this using a keyboard by pressing the undo keyword combo 3 or 4 times may potentioallly aggravate the issue in that codes are not being put on the exact previous position NOR context. Redo is even worse. As a result Undo/Redo almost always break the code even further.
Undoing 1 time is exact (it always works), twice is risky (but works 80% of the time), and anything above that is potentially highly messy and innaccurate.

I figured out how this works... Whenever I'm using an online editor (let's say an HTML editor), the undo/redo shortcuts are not ⌘+z for undo and ⌘+⇧ +z (or ⌘+y) for redo, instead, use control+z for undo and control+⇧+z for redo. Well, bear in mind you can also redo using control+y

  • Hi guys, I have a big problem! My bookmark shortcut entry(command D) does not work anymore and do you know by any changes how to undo resetting of Safari? Thnx a million :)

Hi guys, I have a big problem! My bookmark shortcut entry(command D) does not work anymore and do you know by any changes how to undo resetting of Safari? Thnx a million

Try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file.
    Quit Safari.
Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. Try a bookmark.
If that didn't help, check Safari / Preferences then select the Extensions tab. If you have any installed, turn that off, quit then relaunch Safari.
If Extensions aren't the issue, reset Safari. From the menu bar click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons, click Reset.

  • Photoshop CS6 - undo shortcut issues

I am using Photoshop CS6 on Mac OSX 10.10. When I attempt to use the undo shortcut (Command Z), it only sometimes works. If it doesn't work, I have to manually go to Edit - Undo. Is there a fix for this?

Just troubleshoot your system.  The problem is on your end.
If you updated or upgraded to the foul Yosemite 10.10 after Photoshop CS6 was installed, Yosemite damaged Photoshop.  The remedy is to uninstall CS6 and re-install it, then update it to Photoshop CS6 version 13.0.6.
Of course, it could be a faulty keyboard or who knows what else.

  • Undo Shortcut not working across CC

I have a fully updated version of CC running on Mountain Lion and today the Undo shortcut (Command + Z) doesn't want to work. I can go up to the menu and go Edit > Undo, but I'd rather not!
Does anyone know what the issue might be? It's not working across all my Adobe CC applications (Ps, Ai, Id, Dw, etc).
I have refreshed the settings on Photoshop (Command + Option + Control + Shift) on startup and that didn't help.
    I appreciate any assistance.

Incase this helps someone, somewhere, it ended up being that my keyboard wasn't working.
I tested it in MS Word, and it didn't work there.
Reset the RAM on my iMac, didn't help.
Ended up being that the z key worked fine and the command key worked fine, but the combination of the two at once didn't work.
Solution was by trying another keyboard.
6 hours I'll never see again.

  • Undo issues with Prem CC OSX- can't lock COMMAND-Z to undo feature in keyboard shortcuts

    Hello,
As per my described problem in heading, when I lock UNDO command to COMMAND-Z in Premiere CC, when I try to undo with the command my clips / edit on the timeline are shifting right.
If I use UNDO from the pull down menu, the functions performs as expected and my last action is undone.
The keyboard shortcut however will not work and only shifts my clips right.
Is there a fix for this please?
    Thanks,
    Tom

    Bernard,

No, you mentioned "resetting prefs". I'm talking about manually trashing prefs.

  • Undo shortcut intermittently doesn't work

    Hi guys,
    On certain files §¶•ªªº––≠≠–º•¶§∞¢£™¡¡¡` ¡`` œ∑´®†¥¨ˆøππ“‘«
    PS CS5
    Mac 10.6.6
    16gb RAM

Yep, it is fully updated.  I¹ve already tried throwing away my preferences,
yet the ³undo² problem happened again.  I¹ve re-started, repaired
permissions and etc. I should tell you that I can undo, just not with the
keyboard shortcut.  Nor, when the shortcut problem comes up, will my mouse
scroll wheel make the contents of a palette go north and south.  Another
weird thing that has happened once or twice is that the image thumbnails in
the layers palette have not displayed the mask, in both adjustment and image
layers, after I¹ve used a brush of any kind.  Instead, the thumbnail of the
mask will look like the gray and white checkerboard that transparent layers
show.  I can get the thumbnail mask to come back if I click several times on
adjacent thumbnails.  It kind of seems that PS is running too slowly to
re-write the thumbnail immediately, which doesn¹t make sense because the
MacPro is a 2.93ghz eight core running 16gb of RAM.  The file sizes I work
on vary from 30mb to 500mb or so not too huge, though I think the ones
that have the problems I¹ve described are on the larger side.  I¹ve got it
set for 25 history states, which ought to be ok.
Another odd thing.  I often have 2-4 images open at a time, and the problems
will only be happening to one of those images. On all the other images the
shortcuts, scroll wheel, thumbnails are all ok.  Any ideas what the hell is
    going on here?
Thank you very much for your help,

    Is Photoshop fully updated?
(boilerplate-text) As with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems you might try
trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions,
Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences
you¹ve changed) by pressing command-alt-shift on starting the program or
    starting from a new user-account.
System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts,
cleaning caches, etc.) might also be beneficial, Onyx has been recommended for
    such tasks.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/onyx.html
Weeding out bad fonts never seems to be a bad idea, either. (Validate your
fonts in Font Book and remove the bad ones.)
If 3rd party plug-ins are installed try disabling them to verify if one of
those may be responsible for the problem.

  • Superscript keyboard shortcut doesn't work on my powerbook

Does anyone know why the keyboard shortcut for superscript (cntrl-command-+) wouldn't work yet the subscript (cntrl-command--) does work??
    12'' G4 Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.1)

On U.S. keyboards, the + key is really shift-=, that is, to get a plus you must hold down the shift key.
Thus, ctl-cmd-+ is really ctl-cmd-shift-=. Give that a try.
(For computers with a numeric keypad, or for keyboard layouts which have an unshifted +, you can just use the + key instead of shift-=).
As a side note for a related key equivalent, in Pages 2.0 (but not 1.0), cmd-+ or cmd-shift-= will increase font size. But this is not the case for superscript.

  • Why won't shortcut cmd-W (undo)  work?

Title says it all... So I have to make cursor travel all the way across screen to «undo» in the edition menu to undo anything. Why is this?
    Thanks for helping.

I've got an English version of Mac OS X with an English version of FCE and a French keyboard: many shortcuts aren't working at all, among which I, J, K, L, shift+Z, CMD+Z, etc... but O works!?!
This is quite annoying! I've tried to use CMD+W instead of CMD+Z thinking that it could come from a problem with the French keyboard, but both just don't work. Anyway, I, J, K, L, etc. don't work whereas O works and this isn't related to a French/English keyboard problem since these keys are at the same place on both types of keyboard.
I've tried to look in the System Preferences, in the keyboard shortcuts panel, but didn't find anything.
I believe that about a week ago, I couldn't use CMD+Q to quit FCE but now, it works. However, I had not yet tried to create movies, so I don't know whether the other shortcuts (which now don't work) were working at the time.
Any tip is more than welcome! Thanks a lot!!
