Undownloaded podcasts marked as unplayed

I'm on Windows 7.
After installing iTunes 11.2, a heap of old podcasts from my subscribed podcats have been marked as unplayed - 1,500 so far. These are podacsts that I have not downloaded and I don't want to listen to (about 500 are old 'Stuff you should know' podcasts).
I've tried to mark them as played, but this causes iTunes to crash.
Any help?

I don´t know why but the problem was solved two days ago. Now, the format of the date in the app is exactly the same for all the podcasts, the "correct" one.
I guess that apple has modified something in the database to use the same format that it was using the iTunes app of OSX.

  • New podcasts are not marked as unplayed

    Hello,
With the Podcasts app some new podcasts are not automatically marked as unplayed in the iPhone and iPad apps with iOS 8 and iOS 7 (there is no problem with iTunes in my mac/windows laptops).
I have realized that it depends on the format of the date of episode. For example, if the format is something like "22 nov 0014", the new episodes won´t be marked as unplayed and I have to do it manually.
However, if the format of the date is something like "15 of november", the new episodes will be marked as unplayed.
I have tried to modify the format of the date of the iPhone to U.S. (I am spanish), but nothing changed.
Do you have any idea about the reason of this behavior? Checking all the new episodes manually is very annoying.
    Thank in advance.

  • Podcasts marked as played keep being downloaded again and again

On iphone 5, since ios8 there are a number of podcast episodes which, no matter how many times I mark them as played (and they subsequently get deleted) the next day they appear again in my feed, and are automatically downloaded.  very frustrating.

Unfortunately, I have not found syncing to help at all.
I listen to iTunes while running, and if I sync all Podcasts without a playlist, I have to stop, press the button, hear the voice go through x many podcasts, and click on the next one.  If I sync to a certain playlist, I am able to play all of them in a row, but they will not be marked as played, last played, skipped, or last skipped.  Why are these choices there if we cannot use them?
If I do not sync, they will occasionally randomly mark some played, even if unplayed, but then leave all of my played marked as unplayed.  Most of the time all are marked as unplayed even when played all the way through.  Since the "last played" and "last skipped" options are chosen for my list, one shouldn't have to play all the way through in order to see the dates of when they were last played or last skipped.
I have searched all over the net for a solution, but can find none.  The best solution I had was to get rid of this iTunes version and go back to an earlier one, but unfortunately, the new one was replaced as a package with other software installs, without my choosing to install it.  Can Apple please help?

Tom at the Genius Bar told me that Option Delete would work. It does not.
I had to upgrade to iTunes 11.1.(I26) because it is required with OS7 on my iPod Touch (5th Gen). I have tried shutting down iTunes, then shutting down the entire system. This is the first in many visits that the Genius Bar gave me a solution that did not work.
This is a big awkward computer locked to my desk. I would rather not unlock it and then carry it through a shopping center to the Genius Bar if i can avoid oit.
When I installed iTunes 11.1, I discovered that Ihad to resubscribe to virtually all of the podcasts that I had previously been subscribed to. That was a surprise.

    Hello Achates:
I did not read the rather long post. If you wish to reinstall OS X 10.4, use your software install DVD. Backup is essential. To minimize your risk, I would use an archive and install:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
In that way, you will have a fresh copy of OS X and your current settings will be preserved.
Incidentally, I do not agree that the printer problem is best solved by reinstalling OS X. I have had HP printers for sometime and, on one occasion, had difficulty after an upgrade. HP technical support walked me through uninstalling all traces of the HP driver and then reinstalling.

You can't install Java on iOS devices.

  • What happened to the option "Mark as Unplayed"

I have been using a feature within the podcast section that allows one to reset the blue dot or reset the podcast as unplayed. In the past itunes versions this retained the play count while allowing itunes to sync unplayed podcasts to an ipod. With the release of iTunes 7.1.0.59 they change the option to "Mark as New" which reset the podcast as unplayed but also resets the play count. Does anyone know why they changed this? I used the old feature to allow me to track podcasts I repetitively listen to such as educational or exercise podcasts.
    iTunes 7.1.0.59   Windows XP Pro

To me, the renaming seems a little awkward. "Mark as Not New" doesn't sound right to me; the wording just seems a little off grammatically. What was the reason for it, and was there not a better choice of words to use?

  • IPad won't sync podcasts marked 'explicit'

I've had tons of trouble syncing podcasts to my iPad2. I thnave 21 appearing in iTunes, and on the iPad as it's listed in iTunes. But on the actual iPad there are only 5 showing. Is it a coincidence that these are the only 5 that are not marked 'explicit?' Is there a setting I can change that will allow the podcasts to sync to my iPad?
I've created both a regular and a smart playlist, plus just allowed the podcasts to sync as normal. It's always seemed pretty random which ones actually show up on the iPad or not. But today I noticed the 'explicit' thing.
Please help! This is driving me crazy not being able to listen to all my podcasts.

in iTunes or on the iPad? (will be doing both, as I'm sitting here but thought I'd check...)
YOU FIXED IT! Thank you...I didn't realize I had a restriction set on the iPad. All podcasts are showing now.

  • Incomplete downloaded podcast marked as complete

iTunes is downloading podcasts but not moving them from the Download folder to the Podcast folder. Yet, it is marking the podcasts as complete. I have gone thru the process of deleting the podcast, and re-downloading, but they fail at the same point. This happens on everyone of 12 different podcasts. I have even completely Unsubscribed and re-subscribed all of the podcasts. I have even de-installed and reinstalled iTunes. It then worked for 2 days, but now the same thing happens.
    TIA,
    Curtis

This is happening to me too... very very annoying.

  • HELP! Audio Podcast Marker Image Being Compressed to Mangled Blob

I am trying to create an audio podcast in STP2.
I add an image for the Marker by selecting "Image Source Other" and select a 2444x1583 jpeg image. The image shows up in the preview box and it looks good. I activate Show External Video (^V) and the image looks perfect.
However as soon as I select any tab, track, whatever... and the image preview box disappears, and I then come back to the marker image preview, the image has now been processed and compressed to a completely unrecognizable blob! If I go ahead and export the podcast, the marker image is displayed in iTunes looking exactly like the mangled image in STP and has been reduce to 53Wx35H pixels!!!
This mangling also occurs with the Episode image, although it actually does not even get exported to the final podcast.
To create the podcast I make sure the file type is AAC/Podcast File > Podcast > Enhanced (Images).
Can someone PLEASE help me figure why the images are being mangled and how I can get a full quality marker image displayed?
BTW - I have tried various file formats including PDF and PNG and the results are the same - ALWAYS a 53Wx35H pixel image.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
ASIDE - I created the same podcast in Garageband 09 and the images are Crystal clear. However, the marker image ALWAYS gets distorted form wide screen format to square, so that it become useless for distribution.
TIA for anyone that reads this and responds.

OK - Got It Figured Out!!! Woo Hoo!!
I am able to do exactly what I want in Compressor... go figure!!
    1. Select "AAC for Audio Podcast" preset.
    2. In the Encoder Audio tab, select "Enhanced Padcast (m4a file)"
    3. Change "Fit marker images within" to "1280" by "1024"
    4. Add Chapter marker and edit
    5. Change Type to "Podcast"
    6. Select Image "From file" and select the HR file - could drag from Finder as well.
    7. Save
    8. Submit (took about 30 seconds to run)
Viola!! A nice, tight, small, HR slide show; 5 minutes long and ONLY 4.5 MB - about .1 MB larger than the audio alone! The entire process (once the new preset is saved) takes less than a minute - as long as you know the time code for the marker image placement.
Took a weekend to figure out, but well worth it!
Off to make the Client VERY happy!!

  • Podcasts - Mark As Listened

Hi, this is my first post, and I realise this isn't topping the list of 'pressing issues in BB6/7', but still, it'll be a useful feature. Could we get a 'Mark As Listened' in the podcasts submenu, all my podcasts have a half circle next to them becuse I never listen to the whole thing, ie, I switch off and miss all the ad's and rubbish at the end.
If this is already in there somewhere then I'm damned if I can find it, it'd definately be worth having.
    Lewis.

It doesn't work as I expected. This is what I tested:
Find song that is on both Mac & Win7 machines. Take note of each playcount.
    Mac playcount     Win7 playcount
    2                         7
    Play song on Mac.
    Mac playcount     Win7 playcount
    3                         7
I expected the Win7 playcount to increase to 8, as well, but it didn't.
    Play song on Win7.
    Mac playcount     Win7 playcount
    3                         8
I expected the Mac playcount to increase to 4, but it didn't.
Play song on Mac through homesharing (the Win7 song actually gets played)
    Mac playcount     Win7 playcount
    3                         9
OK, I guess this is all this homesharing feature does. The Win7 song actually got played so its playcount got updated from the Mac.

  • 9.1.0.79 - Podcast - Mark as watched gone

What happened to "select all" -> right click -> "mark as watched". I predominately use iTunes to download Podcasts. I have about 80 subscriptions or so. I transfer them to my iPhone, and now iPad, manually. They do not get recognized as "played" in iTunes once transfered, and I rarely listen to all of them from one day to the next but need to know what the new ones are. Without the select all "mark as played" feature I have to manually select each fricken podcast and say "mark as played". What a waste of time!!
Hopefully this is just an oversight. Please fix this ASAP

Good to hear its not just me. I think I found a work around. Open the top podcast so you can see the individual podcasts - do a "select all" (all podcast not the just the top one). Now deselect the top podcast title but make sure all the others are still selected. Right click on the top actual podcast (not the subscription title). You should now see the "mark as (un)watched" or "mark as (un)played" depending on if you have a video or audio podcast on the top of the list.
Yeah...now they just need to make the rest of iTunes now suck so much.

  • Synch iPhone, Podcasts Revert to Unplayed Status

    Hello!
Every time I synch my iPhone 5 with iTunes 11.1.1, the podcasts on my iPhone that have already been played show up as unplayed.
I see no configuration setting in iTunes in the podcasts tab that might be causing this problem. Hopefully I'm missing something.
Any help/ suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Cheers!

Answering andy76sz's question, yes my behavior is the same as yours. Each time I try to resync my phone with the my other computer (no matter if it's my iMac at home or my work PC) all the syncing options are cleared and I have to recheck the ones I want. As sisterblue said, Apple probably intended this behavior to prevent inadvertent syncing to occur.
So it seems this is just the way it is for now. I hope 2.0 of the iPhone firmware will address this common usage scenario (i.e., full synchronization of contacts and appointments between the iphone and 2 different computers). This has been a feature of Windows Mobile for a while now and many of us have come to depend on having our phones (formerly PDAs) provide a way synchronizing our busy schedules and dynmically changing contacts and their info between work and home. I agree with andy76sz's assessment that Apple probably didn't initially provide this capability because they were worried about people copying music/videos between different computers using the iPhone as a bridge. I don't even use my iPhone to listen to music or watch videos.
I do have an idea though, that might work until Apple provides this capability... I have a couple of old Windows Mobile phone lying around gathering dust (T-Mobile SDA, SMT5600). What if I were to go back to using Missing Sync on my iMac and use these old phones as bridging device for syncing my calendar and contacts between my home iMac and my work PC. Would be a pain in the butt, but I think it may work. Any body tried this?

  • How do I mark podcasts as unplayed in iTunes 11.0.1?

You can mark unplayed as played but not Played as Unplayed? I've controlled clicked on played podcasts and there is no option to
    mark as unplayed.
    thx, Drake

I'm still not sure what this option (to shuffle a Playlist and then Sync that to the iPod) was or where it was in iTunes 10. This is despite your question having been raised by other people.
Surely, since you can shuffle a Playlist on an iPod, it's not necessary to shuffle it before Syncing, is it?

  • Unplayed podcasts not marked with dot at top level list

    Hello,
Since I recently upgraded to iTunes 11.2, I've been having all kinds of trouble with podcasts.  Here's the most recent headache.
Today, my "Podcasts" item in the side menu on the left says there are 6 unplayed episodes.  When I click on "Podcasts", there are only 4 podcasts marked with the blue dot indicating that they are unplayed.  Where are the two additional unplayed podcasts?  It turns out that there are two podcasts that have unplayed episodes, but they're not marked as unplayed in the list of podcasts.  If I click on the arrow to the left of the podcast name to expand the list, I can see the unplayed episodes there, marked with a blue dot.
So, for two (and only two) podcasts, unplayed episodes are marked with an unplayed blue dot next to the individual episodes, but the top-level listing for that podcast in my list of podcasts doesn't show the unplayed blue dot.  There are two issues with this.  1) These "hidden" unplayed episodes don't sync to my iPod (i.e. only 4 podcast episodes went to my iPod this morning, even though I have 6 unplayed episodes), and 2) I can't tell which podcasts have unplayed episodes without expanding all of the listings for my podcasts, which is obnoxious.
I previously solved this problem by unsubscribing from the offending podcasts and resubscribing.  However, the problem is back now.  I'd really prefer not to have to delete and resubscribe every week.
Are there any other better podcast handlers out there than iTunes?  I'm getting so tired of the slow decent into the abyss with this bloated, dysfunctional piece of software.  Every time a new release comes out, something breaks or some feature I use is taken away, replaced with some iOS-centric Apple-store-linked "BUY NOW" button.  Ugghh.  I just want to play my nerdy NPR podcasts in peace, Apple.
    Thanks!
    Adrian

Did you ever figure this out? I just realized I posted a similar question. 9 months later and no Apple staff have answered this question nor have they fixed this (if it is a bug)? Not particularly impressive.

  • Marking podcast as unplayed?

    Hi all,
I have a few podcast episodes that I have breifly listened to (only a few seconds), and the little blue dot disappears, marking the podcast as "played". Is there any way to mark these podcasts as "unplayed" and bring the little blue dot back to them? I'm using iTunes 6.0.1 on a Mac running 10.4.3 Tiger.
    Thanks in advance,
    -Travis

It's OK - I opened my eyes and right clicked on the podcasts and found the "Mark as Unplayed" option.
