Uneven 24" Display, is this normal?

I have an Intel iMac with the 24" LCD. I had noticed that the screen's brightness was uneven. Lighter on the left, gradually getting darker towards the center and getting a little lighter towards the right. I have Apple Care and brought it to the Apple Store. The tech measured the intensity of the LCD with a light measuring tool and said that they'll replace the LCD.
Picked it up today. Screen still has that gradation. Could it be a video card? Do all the 24" LCD's have the same issue?
Being a graphic artist I may be more sensitive to the difference in the LCD than the average consumer.

So, I just returned from the Apple Store. I went back because the replacement LCD (done last week) has the same uneven color that the original had.
I am now convinced that the Apple Geniuses/Techs are either not visually savvy enough to see this issue with their naked eye. The person sitting next to me at the Genius Bar saw it without straining her eyes.
Or, Apple instructs them not to admit to the fact that they see the problem and because it isn't an isolated issue, not to admit there is a problem with these LCD displays.
If they just aren't visually attuned to seeing display issues, maybe they should hire some people with graphic design backgrounds that have an eye for such things. It wouldn't be such a bad idea as the graphic arts users were Apple's first and core customers (before Apple went after the average consumer).

Just to tell you my story...
I bought a Macbook black in Mexico late 2007. not a week passed and the left shift key broke... that's ok.. I'm under warranty. I took it back and what they said amazed me. Keys on the keyboard are not on warranty! SAY WHAT????
yep.. Went to all Apple stores, Service centers, you name it.. the same answer.
Then I traveled to the states and went to the Small Dogs in Vermont, the apple distributor in that state. first thing they ask is do you have a warranty still? Yep! So leave it here and come back tomorrow.
AMAZING!!! free of charge, spanish keyboard and all!!! they changed everything!
Couldn't keep the old one though because it was done under warranty.
Thankfully nothing more happened to this lovely laptop!!!

  • What is the normal shut down time for the mac book pro retina display (late 2013). Mine takes around 20 secs.Is this normal or should i be worried ?

Hi I got a new mac book pro retina display of 8G ram and 256GB ssd (late 2013 model). I was trying to shut down.It was taking around 20-30 secs.Is this normal? When i say shutdown i mean , i just login and shutdown.Do nothing else. I repeated the same process for 4 or 5 times. The numbers are the same.
The boot up takes around 15 secs. Are the numbers crazy or normal.
    Any reply would be helpful.Thanks.

  • IMac Retina 5K Display changes tones when waking from sleep -- Is this normal?

Every single time that I wake my Retina iMac from display or system sleep, the colors on the monitor seem to change tones twice:
First the display goes from dim to slightly brighter (within first 1-3 seconds)
Then the display goes from cooler (blues) to warmer (yellows) (within first 5-10 seconds)
Does this sound normal?  Do you suspect the pixels are just warming up?  I tried calibrating my display, but this doesn't fix it.

Writing it off as "warming up" for the dim to brighter effect seems sensible... but cooler to warmer colors seems odd to me...
Fortunately, you can technically reach the cooler colors of your preference by doing a Display calibration, so it's not like the monitor is incapable of achieving that tone of color.  But would be nice to understand why it changes tones in the first place.  Perhaps it's doing a quick refresh to achieve an ideal color temperature?
Worst case scenario, Apple is very flexible with returns (when I bought my Retina MacBook that I felt had a hardware issue, they immediately replaced it without question) so worst case scenario you could always ask for a replacement given it's such a new / recently purchased machine.  I considered doing this, but am concerned it might be an issue with all the the Retina iMac machines... would hate to have to swap & setup the computer all over again.

  • I have a macbook with retina display and when i use it, it gets hot on the bottom is this normal?

When i use my macbook it gets hot on the bottom is this normal?

If you're talking about the "new" MacBook with retina display, it's normal (Especially when you're playing games or watching a movie) and like Stark_Hu said, it will start displaying the temperature warnings, slow the processor, and try to regain normal temperatures. I actually had that happen to me while I was playing the Sims 4 while having 3 Pages documents and 5 or so Safari pages open.
Now if you're talking about the Retina MacBook Pro, I would clean out the fan ports and everything because that doesn't seem too normal!

  • ELVIS II units - when the DMM leads are connected together with the unit set to read AC current, the unit displays 3.56 mA? Is this normal?

For the ELVIS II unit with the instrument launcher selected - using the DMM to measure AC current: when the leads are connected together, the display show 3.56 mA. Is this normal? Readings do not become accurate until above 10 mArms.

    Hello,
Yes, this is normal. The AC modes in DMMs become nonlinear with very small input signals near the bottom end of their ranges. The result is a residual error reading. This is not an offset -- as you noted, the accuracy improves as you increase the input signal. While this threshold is not specified for ELVIS II, it should be around 2% of range (10 mArms in the 500 mArms range, as you observed). By comparison, that threshold is specified as 5% of range for myDAQ and 1% of range for the PXI-4072.
    I hope this helps.

  • Taking such a long time to open an app. Is this normal?

I recently received my new Blackberry Classic (Verizon Wireless). I love my keyboard and how the email works. But this phone has such long delays while trying to do anything.
I setup my office exchange account.
When I open reminders and select my Tasks folder it takes 20 seconds to load. If I answer a phone call and come back to the reminders I need to wait another 20 seconds. Is this normal? Or is something wrong? Should I reset the phone?
I appreciate any help or input I can get.

  • My safari browser doesn't display as it normally should

my safari browser doesn't display as it normally should with all the colors/animations/pictures.  I've tried the 32 bit mode, I've tried restarting safari, I've tried and even after the update in safari and the OS, it still looks like this.  What can I do to fix it?

    Hi adidas --
    Double check your Safari preferences.
Make sure in "Appearance" that "Display images when the page opens" is checked.

  • Unless I repair my hard drive every other day I am unable to delete songs from iTunes or email messages from Postbox. I've only had an iMac for a few weeks, is this normal?

Unless I repair my hard drive every other day I am unable to delete songs from iTunes or email messages from Postbox. I've only had an iMac for a few weeks, is this normal?

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if it frightens you, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password dialog will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
In the dialog, select the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if it's not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if it's not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Lumia 800 Keyboard Problem - Is this Normal?

When using some apps (Facebook, for example) the virtual keyboard becomes partially unresponsive - pressing any key in the bottom two rows is almost impossible. Also, in the messaging app, the 'send' button is inactive when the keyboard is visible. I have to press the 'Back' button to dismis the keyboard before I can press send.
I have set a passcode to protect the phone. Sometimes the keypad for entering the code shows the same behaviour, some of the keys are unresponsive.
Switching the display off and on usually restores the keys.
In all other respects the phone seems to be ok.
    Is this normal?

Not normal, at least not for me, only nit picking I have is that when the keyboard is visible, and I'm in portrait mode typing a text message, I have to hit the bottom part of the send button, otherwise it registers as a comma.
But I have no unresponsiveness in the lock screen or anywhere else, only "lag" I've experienced is in IE when typing something in an input box, the letters sometimes lag behind for a second or less if I've just zoomed in.
Works like a charm, like my old iPhone.

  • ODI Beep throws error - is this normal?

    Hello,
    Sometimes ODIBeep throws this error:
ODI-1226: Step zakoncz dzialanie fails after 1 attempt(s).
ODI-1241: Oracle Data Integrator tool execution fails.
Caused By: java.lang.InternalError: Can't connect to X11 window server using 'eB-ETL1.puw:10.0' as the value of the DISPLAY variable.
My server don't have X installed and this step is executed by agent. Why OdiBeep wants to use X server? Is this normal? Also, sometimes this error is thrown, sometimes does not. Can I prevent this error or I should rather to avoid using OdiBeep?

  • The green LED  doesn't last and it switches to orange.  Is this normal?

I have not been keeping notice of the LED which lights when I connect my Mac Book Pro to power.  I just noticed that it lights green and then shortly turns orange.  Is this normal?  What could it mean?

It often takes a short time after the adapter is connected for the system to determine whether or not the battery needs charging and for the light on the adapter plug to display the appropriate color. This is normal.

  • Lenovo B575 Vibration in palm wrest area this normal?

I've never really had a budget line laptop from any brand I usually go with Dell Latitudes or macbooks so this is my first Lenovo and first budget line laptop....that being said the laptop is a dream considering the price except two things.
    1. The palm wrest area you can feel a fairly noticeable vibration on both sides is this normal for this model?  I am guessing it is due to the budget plastics that I can feel the HD vibrating? But I'd like to know for sure.
    2. The usb ports are INSANELY tight...i thought I may have to try a sledge hammer to push in a wireless mouse dongle..Good lord.

It still does it while on Battery power (i also checked the locla Bestbuy and the display model is the same thing) It could just be me not being used to cheap plastic as i tend to buy expensive business models which are built better.

  • Safari outgoing connections over 50.  Is this normal?

At times, I have over 50 outgoing tracking connections via safari, and I think it slows down my computer.  Is this normal, and can I limit this?  I tried blocking them but eventually I couldn't access the search engines, eg. google.  I think this is excessive and should be limited, and some of the links look redundant to me.  Is this normal activity?

Every webpage (unless it is really old and poorly built) contains all kinds of embedded links, images, scripts and other content.  Every one of those embedded elements exists at its own URI.  When you open a web page, your browser gets the contents of the page, which includes all those embedded element URIs - which means that the browser then has to go and fetch each of them in order to be able to display them in the page when it is rendered in your web browser.
So yes, every time you open a web page, there will be a flurry of other connections - and the richer the content of the page you are loading, the more additional connections will be required to get all of its content.
Now I've never used Norton, so I can't really comment on it except to say that it appears to have a well-earned low reputation vis-a-vis Macs...but regardless of what security tools (if any) you use, trying to monitor HTTP connections while you are actively web browsing is going to be a collosal waste to time.
