Uneven alignment of print document

After clearing a paper jam, print is uneven. Most of the print document is clear exact every inch the print is blurred/ shadowed /doubled image.

Aligning lines between pages in InDesign CS5

Hi all,
After many fruitless hours of Googling, I'm really, really hoping to find some help here with a small InDesign CS5 issue I'm having. I'll try and keep this brief.
I'm currently designing a book in InDesign CS5 that has chapters that run one after the other. Whereas in most books a new chapter will start on a new page, here they flow together. For each chapter heading, I'm using a font called Orial, size 18. For the main text, I'm using Adobe Garamond Pro, size 12. When I have two solid pages of 12 point Adobe Garamond Pro, all is well. The alignment of lines on both pages are level with one another. That's just what I want.
However, if I have a double page spread and one of the pages has an 18pt Orial title on it (within all the 12pt Adobe Garamond Pro), this throws things out of whack, as you can see in the image below:
As you can see, the lines on page 79 are not level with those on page 78. Is there any way around this?

Hm, I'm afraid I'm still encountering problems here. I'll talk through what I've done so far using Josh's excellent guide:
(I should note at the start that my text frames are all linked to one another, and I am using paragraph styles).
Firstly, I checked 'Grids in Back' was switched off (thanks ghf232):
Secondly, I turned on the following:
View -> Screen Mode -> Normal
View -> Extras -> Show Frame Edges
View -> Grids -> Show Baseline Grid
My document now looked like this:
Then I highlighted all text with Ctrl+A:
And next I hit the 'Align to baseline grid' button:
This resulted in the following:
Next, I went to Preferences -> Grids and changed 'Increment Every' option to 1.5:
Alas, the lines remained uneven:
I'm sure I'm missing something really obvious. If anybody couldhelp, I'd be hugely grateful. Thanks again all.

Sync Text alignment in HTMLEditor and a PDF generated using FOP

Hi,
How to sync text alignment in HTMLEditor and a PDF generated using FOP ?
I tried setting the dimensions of HTMLEditor and PDF in pixels by calculating the size in Pixels for A4 paper size with a particular dpi value.
Have done the font settings as well. The problem is I see uneven line cuts in the PDF as compared to HTMLEditor.

It's not a realistic expectation. You are expecting the PDF produced by whoever provided your FOP implementation to observe exactly the same typographical rules as HTMLEditor. Basically it won't, and there is no way to enforce it. Line breaking/hyphenation/word spacing algorithms can be of great complexity. You are expecting two systems that aren't specified to agree, to agree.

Uneven Screen

I just got my code red 8gb ipod nano and I noticed that the screen is uneven. Its like it wasn't aligned right when they put it together. I also noticed it had a lot of battery power when I first got it, but I don't know if they are like that when you first get them because on my first generation ipod nano it was completely dead when I first got it.
Anyways the screen bugs the crap out of me and I was wondering if the apple store would replace it with another one or am I SOL?

Yes, I would take it to an Apple store and have them check it out.
As regards the battery charge, it depends on how long the iPod's been in the box since it left Apple, or how long any retailer has had it.
I've had new iPods with no charge at all, but my last one had almost a full charge.

Alignment Issues with Creating Crop marks

I am doing some very basic print layout and creating crop lines at the tops and sides of the page for the printer. Unfortunately my crop marks are not aligning. For example when I specify a line to appear at the top of the page (which btw is 8.5" x 11" US Letter) via the Metrics Inspector at the coordinates start : x=1.75" y=0" and end: x=1.75" y=2", when the document is printed it is actually off by a 0.25". It also does not line up with the crop mark I put at the bottom of the page. This may not seem like a lot but will cause the printer to cut the paper uneven. Is there some way to insure that the cop marks print on the page exactly where they say they are in the digital version of the document?

Have you enabled alignment guides in the Pages Preferences? It is a very handy feature to align objects in a document.
When you are done then select the crop lines and group them. Then lock the grouped object!

How do I eliminate uneven edges in fill color?

I have created a color gradient and the color fill has an uneven edge, which creates a small white space between the edges of the fill and the bounding box. I have tried using shift+click to try and even the edges, but I guess that only works for using stroke tool or whatever. You have to look closely because this image is not very large. There is a slight uneveness on both the top (near the right side) and bottom (slightly left of center). Can someone in the community help me with this? I'd appreciate it very much.

Hey Guys, I appreciate your input. I'm using CS3. I'm really feeling inadequate about all this. I didn't bother with the angle of 90 degrees. If I input 90 degrees I get a certain type of gradient that I'm not after. I used the sliders to create the perfect gradient I'd been after forever. I did upload the file with my post. I see it on here. You guys don't? It's just a strip that's going to be used on my website for the menu bar. The software I'm working with is Pro Framework and the SW developer does not have gradient tools, so I have to create a gradient myself, to get that effect. I did do the shift click and it didn't work.
If I backtrack some, I remember I used the rotation tool at one point because I needed a mirror image, one for the top menu and one for the bottom. This is before I got the gradient I was after, which does not require a mirror image. If you look you can see the darkest part is at the center of the gradient which is what I want. Okay, back to the rotation tool: when I was rotating to create a mirror image, I noticed during the rotation that the bounding box wasn't aligning perfectly, and I tried the shift click to no avail. And I don't get this, but the bounding box is now perfectly straight but the fill edges look like the bounding box once did, out of alignment. Does that make sense to any of you?
I did try to create another shape but I can't get the gradient tool to work. And I've used it enough times to think I understand it. In fact, I have a better understanding of it now than I ever did. I just have to quit for now and try again when I'm fresh. One more thing, all this stuff about opacity levels and fill settings is beyond me. This is CS3, a student teacher edition. I'm not a graphic designer, just happened to take a couple of classes. I've gotten better about using the sw, in fact I've risen to a new level, but now I'm stumped. There's nothing in this world that can bring me to near tears like graphics software. My hat is off to you guys.

Illustrator CS5.1 uneven stroke offset problem

I'm getting a problem in Illustrator CS5.1 that I can't seem to solve. The attached image shows the issue I'm having. I've set a 1px stroke on three identical boxes.
Top - stroke set to outside - stroke overlaps edge of shape unevenly, shape appears to extend outside itself on bottom edge
Middle - stroke set to center - stroke appears fine
Bottom - stroke set to inside - entire stroke offsets downward unevenly, no longer appears to be touching top edge of shape
Also, the shape keeps shifting on the artboard. Using Smart Guides, I'll anchor a point to a ruled intersection, it appears to snap, but when I release the mouse, it will jump a bit in a random direction.
Other shapes do the same. The stroke on a square or rectangle appears fine as a center stroke, but set as the other two options it randomly offsets
I've restarted my machine (2009 Mac Pro os10.10.2), deleted Illustrator's prefs, copied shapes into a new file, and recreated the file from scratch. Same error reoccurs. Any other ideas?

Sounds like an Align to Pixel Grid issue. RGB documents default to this, but it can be changed.

Photo grid alignment - cannot align or center vertically

I'm adding photos into a photo grid and cannot center them vertically within the blue box of the grid. I'm using 1 column so that each photo appears as large as possible. I've cropped and edited the photos in iPhoto, so some are horizontally shaped while most are portrait shaped. They automatically want to position themselves in the blue photo box, not allowing me to center them vertically so that their spacing on the photo page appears more even. Adjusting spacing on the photo grid pop-up does not help this problem.
Is there a way to center vertically a photo within a single column photo grid?

Thank you, but the problem has not been solved. When I click on the narrow line blue box and go to Arrange-Align Objects-Center, only the first photo in the group moves position. All other photos, relative to each other, have uneven spacing, especially vertically. Either there is lots of space between them, or they are jammed together - all depends on their shape. When I try to Command Click each photo to then Arrange-Distribute Objects-Vertically, these menu options are not available (gray). It works on text blocks, and individually placed photos in other areas, but not on photos brought into a photo grid. Unless each photo is exactly the same shape and size, spacing and aligning in the grid is very uneven. Any more ideas?

Uneven scaling of vector drawings

My vector line typography is scaling unevenly. The individual letters scale fine alone, but when I scale everything together I get incosistent angles and curves showing up. I have no idea what's happening. I'm holding down shift while scaling and there is no stroke around any of the objects.

When you have the two paths aligned, and selected, hit Ctrl/Command + J to Join them together. In the Layers Panel, you will see your (previously closed paths) become a single 'Composite Path' Layer.
Ctrl/Command + Shift + J if you need to split them apart again to two separate Path/Object Layers.
PS: You can't join points of separte paths that are already closed. They have to be open Paths.
You can open the Window > Other > Paths Panel. Select the Points and use the 'Knife on Points' in the Edit area of the Paths Panel.
Then use the 'Join Points' command in the same 'Edit Points' area of the Path Panel.
A little trickier but may offer a solution:
Shift + click the points (to multiSelect them), then in the Paths Panel, Edit Points section, use the 'Scale' option (it's on the first row of icons).

Printer giving uneven white border ...

Hi Guys
Technically not an Indesign question (although the PDF I am using originated from Indesign), but I am out of ideas!
Our in house printing services doesn't have the capability to trim down on large quantity jobs, so I am having to design the A5 flyer we require with a white border. I am designing 4 to an A3 sheet.
I have allowed a 5mm white border around the edge and a 10mm border in the middle so when trimmed into 4, in theory, each should have a nice 5mm white border all the way around.
The pdf looks great in terms of the borders being spot on.
When printed however, we get an uneven white border (the right hand long border is a good few mil narrower than the left and the top one narrower than the bottom).
We have tried on several printers and the same results.
The document is double sided and its just occured to me as typing that I havent tried to print just one side.
Trying that now but any other suggestions? Its obviously the printer issue if the PDF is fine right?

It's a difference with technology. Printing presses have grippers, and registration tables to assure the sheet is properly positioned before it is fed into the rollers. Most digital printers simply have some sort of pick-up roller and a paper sensor that stops the machine if there is an odd length detected, and this is VERY imprecise, especially if the paper guides are not snug or, as is often the case, sheets trimmed to digital sizes are slightly short or slightly long which can happen with changes in humidity as well as just poor cutting . You can check with the manufacturer, but it's a near certainlty that they will tell you that +/- 1mm is well within spec for position on the page.
I'm afraid this is just a fact of life. And it wouldn't matter if you were trimming, either. Sheet-to-sheet variation of up to 3 mm overall is not uncommon on desktop printers, and even on commercial copiers, so putting a stack in a guillotine is not a guarantee that all of the imaged areas are aligned.

Full justification creates uneven first-line indents

Hello...fairly new to InDesign, can't overcome one problem. When I fully justify my text (horizontally), my first-line indentations become uneven, no matter how I set them in the Paragraph palette. I'm using placed text, and the indentation remains even if I left-align. Why do first-line indents become ragged when paragraphs are justified, and what can I do to correct this? Thank you.

Right -- typing spaces is the only way I can think of that first-line indents would be affected by justification, and in that case it would be the expected result (justification is done primarily by adjusting the size of all spaces on the line). This is simply the wrong way to achieve what you're after.
The best practice is to create a Paragraph Style for your body text paragraphs. In the Paragraph Style palette's pop-up menu, choose Style Options. Select "Indents and Spacing," and enter a value for "First line indent."
Now, all paragraphs that have that body text style applied will have the same indent, regardless of justification. And as a bonus, by redefining the Style Options you can change that indent throughout the document whenever you want.
Depending on your document, you may want to create different paragraph styles for paragraphs that aren't indented.

Auto table alignment?

I understand there is relative table alignment, however, how can I auto arrange multi tables on one page so the page looks a little professional?
Table 1 Table 2 Table 3
Table 4 Table 5
I want for table 1 to always be upper left
Tables 2 and 3 to always be to the right of table 1, however, each table should be aligned evenly across the page,
Tables 4 and 5 to always be to the right of table 1 also, however, each table should be aligned evenly across the page,
Tables 4 and 5 have larger col widths, but I still want to be able to center all 5 tables evenly across the page..
Also, how can I hacve tables 4 and 5 always be X spaces below either Table 2 or 3, whichever is the table with the greater number of rows

If I am understanding you correctly, it sounds like you have table/block 1 and 2 that can be different heights (# of records) and so they are uneven? And then this can change based on the data?
You may have to create a section for table 2 and 3 and then have table 4 and 5 be positioned relatively to that section, and not to the blocks, so that the size of the tables/blocks 2 and 3 don't affect the position of 4 and 5.

"An Alignment Error indicates a received frame in which both are true:
* The number of bits received is an uneven byte count (that is, not an integral multiple of 8)
* The frame has a Frame Check Sequence (FCS) error.
Alignment Errors often result from MAC layer packet formation problems, cabling problems that cause corrupted or lost data, and packets that pass through more than two cascaded multiport transceivers.
Frame Check Sequence (FCS) Errors, a type of CRC, indicate that frames received by an interface are an integral number of octets long but do not pass the FCS check. The FCS is a mathematical way to ensure that all the frame's bits are correct without having the system examine each bit and compare it to the original. Packets with Alignment Errors also generate FCS Errors.
Both Alignment Errors and FCS Errors can be caused by equipment powering up or down or by interference (noise) on unshielded twisted-pair (10BASE-T) segments. In a network that complies with the Ethernet standard, FCS or Alignment Errors indicate bit errors during a transmission or reception. A very low rate is acceptable. Although Ethernet allows a 1 in 108 bit error rate, typical Ethernet performance is 1 in 1012 or better.
A Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) Error is an RMON statistic that combines "FCS Errors" and "Alignment Errors". These errors indicate that packets were received with:
* A bad FCS and an integral number of octets (FCS Errors)
* A bad FCS and a non-integral number of octets (Alignment Errors)
CRC Errors can cause an end station to freeze. If a large number of CRC Errors are attributed to a single station on the network, replace the station's network interface board. Typically, a CRC Error rate of more than 1 percent of network traffic is considered excessive."

ICal Week view, Date is not aligned with the Time(schedule) of each date

Well, just like it says over there (`` ). I've recently been to China for a business trip, and I suppose the different time zone may have had something to do with the problem. Now I'm back home, changed the time zone back to normal, still the iCal shows in the weekly view that the Date on the above is not aligning with the Time and schedule. Any suggetions would be grateful!!!

scheduling type i planned order is still "backwards"
so in MD04 it is say that the goods is available at 15.10.2009 same with requirement dates.
this seem not right.
it seems that order finish date is not adjusted by lead time scheduling on "today scheduling".
Is there a way so order finish date is adjusted by lead time scheduling on "today scheduling" ????
