Uneven backlight/yellowish tint

I own a 15 inch retina macbook pro (mid 2014 model) since 3 weeks.
After a few days, I noticed that the right part of my screen is 'darker' than the left part. Besides, it is also clearly more yellowish.
I don't know what to do now. I already read a lot of discussions where people stated that they had to return their macbook 4 times or more before the display problems were solved (there are even people out there whose problems never got fixed properly). A good friend of mine had to return his retina macbook (late 2013 version) for exactly the same display problem as I have. He has had 5 (!!!) replacement machines (totally new MacBooks, to be clear) and each and every time there was something wrong with the display. Either it was way to yellowish (which cannot be resolved by calibrating), or it was uneven backlit.
I have a combination of the two problems mentioned above and I'm really afraid it won't be fixed properly. This is a 2500 dollar machine, and yet many people are disappointed about its biggest selling point: the supposedly phenomenal screen.
Can anyone else relate to this problem? Someone who has experience with these problems?

  • Uneven backlight on the lower edge

I'm a proud new owner of the 2013 MBA and I'm simply loving the maching but one observation added a bit of disappointment to the overall experience. Namely, on the brighter images, I see a slight darker line along the bottom of the screen. It's not a perfect line, rather a bumpy one - it's really small and mostly hard to notice (and definitely not noticable at all if you're not on a white or similar background) but it's there. Looks like an uneven backlight to me. Is it some well-known issue with the MBA displays just like the blue-ish tint happened with retinas on iPad 4's or it should be absolutely perfectly white from end to end and I should go get a replacement?

    Tigro!
definitely not noticable at all UNLESS youre on a white or similar background
Its not the LCD display, but your edge lighting on the LEDs behind the LCD may have a factory defect as per your indications.
That sort of "bumpy" look you mention would be the spaced LED back lighting.
Make appt. and call Apple about possible replacement of your macbook Air.
    Peace

  • Does your iPhone 4/4S have uneven backlighting?

Have you noticed the slight difference in brightness between the top half and bottom half of your 4/4S screens? Of the multiple exampes I have looked at half seem to have uneven backlighting where the top section of the screen is darker. The rest had yellowish screens.
You can see it by going into Settings>General and turning your device to landscape mode. You can also check using any of the various flashlight apps but I find the dark text in Settings helps me to see it more clearly.

    100% positively sure

  • Can I Get a Full Refund for Uneven Backlighting on MPB  after 50 weeks?

I bought a Macbook Pro C2D 17" exactly 50 weeks ago from one of the mac re-sellers that are in towns like Bristol and Swindon in the UK that don't have proper mac's own shops.
I've developed some really bad uneven backlighting on my monitor which is really noticeable when I put a mid tone colour to fill the screen (and even more noticeable when I look at it from a slight angle) and also a light coloured area at the bottom of my screen with is noticeable when he screen is black.
I also have the slight 'grainy' effect that people have been making a lot of fuss about ever since these new macbook pros were brought out, It's a glossy screen also.
A few days ago I passed round the shop and asked if I could qualify for my computer to be replaced with one of the (new) new ones, I'd like this since I find the fans go on with I use second life (and stops and starts a lot) and photoshop on full blast with various other software. Also could do with the extra RAM and resolution.
The salesman at the mac re-seller shop said that It would take about 10 days for my computer to be fixed, now I'm a graphic designer and depend on the computer for my income so that's not an option.
What I'm wondering, and the reason I'm writing this post...I heard somewhere that under UK consumer law that if a product fails to live up to what it's promised to be or is faulty, the consumer is entitled to the choice of a repair, replacement or refund. Is this true and can I qualify for it? The mac re-seller shop is only giving me the option to replace the screen it seems for a lengthy delay instead of giving me other options, what I'd like is the computer to be replaced with the new machine or mac to refund me, so I can give it to apple again by buying the (new) new macbook pro that's just come out.
    Cheers,
    Any advice much appreciated.

    Good Afternoon,
I can't speak for British Law, however, you should still be covered by the Apple 1 Year Limited Warranty. If you have a verified problem with your computer you should be able to send it in for repair, however, Apple is not required to replace the machine so long as they are making an attempt to make your machine operate normally.
Normal repair time will range from 10-30 business days on most issues when the machine is sent in for repair and, unfortunately, Apple is not responsible for any lost productivity time you will encounter during that time.
You may wish to contact Apple Support or Customer Care for more details.
    Hope this helps! 

  • I have pinkish and yellowish tint and stripes on my iphone 4s screen.

I have pinkish and yellowish tint and stripes on my iphone 4s screen. Should I take it to the service or will it get better by itself?

  • 928 Camera - Yellowish Tint When Using Flash

I find that when I take pictues in lower light situations and use the flash there is a distinct yellowish tint to the picture. I have had better results not using the flash at all. Kind of defeats the purpose of the flash. The pictures were taken using the auto settings. Anyone else having this issue or know if there is a resolution or a way to correct this problem?

I have the new Nokia 1020 from AT&T.  Every time I take a flash picture, the picture white balance is WAY off, with the photo having a yellow tint.  I called Nokia and they recommended returning the phone for a new one, but the new one has the same problem.  I also see several people complaining about this on the web.
Is a solution coming?  Else, I will have to return the phone, I bought it for the camera, which is defective when using the flash.

  • Why does my iPad 2 have a yellowish tint?

Yesterday I returned my iPad 2, the original one I bought at the Apple store a few months ago. It had a dead pixel so the gladly gave me another iPad 2 as an exchange. The Apple employee explained that the one im getting new is a refurbished iPad 2 and made me sign couple things regarding that, which I did. After bringing it back to my place and turning it on, I realized the screen didn't have that bright, crystal clear look as the original  one I bought.  It had this sorta, barely yellowish tint and not to mention the home button is totally, completely, not working( that's besides the point) I'm returning it today again. My question is will this one I get today probably have that yellowish tint as well since it'll be a refurbished iPad 2?? Is it possible I can ask for one thats not been refurbished since  the one I original purchased for $599.00 wasn't refurbished?
    Tommy Vercetti

I've had this problem ever since I got my iPad 2 (2 yrs ago too probably). Never got a solution. Even with over head noise cancelling headphones I struggle to hear it. It's fine without headphones.
    Good luck

  • Display has yellowish tint

I recently had my macbook pro replaced by apple care a few days ago and everything is great except for one thing. The display has a yellowish tint to it, ive reinstalled osx, resetted pram and it still is there. I calibrated it, and while its better, it still is not as good as my old macbook pro model (which is a core duo, this is a core 2 duo). I went to a compusa near me and looked at the new macbook pros, none of them have this tint. Basically what I am asking is if this is how some C2D models are or is this a problem? Thanks for help in advance.
    Macbook Pro C2D   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I have had trouble calibrating my MBP display with the calibration tools built in to OSX. My problem was a pink tint and could not get rid of it. So after looking around Google for a while I found a program called SuperCal, and it helped alot. I am willing to bet that it'll help you get rid of your yellowish tint. Check it out.

  • Filter to counter a yellowish tint

I have a video I am editing that has a yellowish tint from the lighting. Can I adjust this like I can with a photoshop image to counter with a blue/violet filter to balance and lighten the whole video overall?
I can't seem to find anyway to search the forums, so excuse me if this has been answered. Where is the forum search? I can't seem to find a way to search in just the forums, and not the rest of Apple.
Thanks in advance for any help on both of the above.

Use the Color Corrector filter and move the center nub toward blue-cyan.

  • 4S screen - uneven backlighting.

    Hey all,
I got a replacement iPhone 4S to replace my 4S with the yellow screen, but now I seem to have run into another Apple QC issue.  I have an uneven backlight, it's pretty noticible (you can see it in the vid link below.) It presents itself as a bright white spot in the middle of my screen extending from the right side of the phone.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=je3Ce-Uc6ag
Not sure if I should return it, the new screen is pretty neutral and I don't want another yellow one!

Just want to chime in with my 2 cents. Im now on my 3rd 4S after having a yellow screen and a rattling vibrator now I have had the 3rd one for about 2.5 months and it has developed a yellow/dimmer top 1/3 of the screen and there is a whiter/lighter "patch" in the middle of the screen with a small whiter dot near it. There is also some backlight bleed on the top right hand corner running down about 1/3 of the right hand side. Definitely going to take it back at the weekend and see if i can get a 4th that is ok! I'll keep you updated.

  • Uneven backlight is "normal" on retina MacBook Pro?

I bought my 13'' Haswell retina MacBook Pro days ago, I've experienced the unresponsive trackpad issue and I'm happy to see it's already resolved. But now I've encountered a new issue, and it's about the display.
As the picture above shows, in low ambient lightning coditons, I can clearly see the brightness is uneven, the top left corner and the left bottom of the screen is brighter. The center of the screen seems brighter, too. But please ignore it because I suppose it's because of my poor phone camera quality, I don't see any significant brightness with my eyes.
I was considering replace it at first, but later I called Apple, the advisor told me it's "normal"!!! Actually, he said according to my description, my symptom is not very profound, of course I can get a replacement if I insist, but he really can't promise I'll get a better one since it's a normal issue on IPS displays...
To my knowledge, among all the Macs, only iMac and retina Macbook Pros use the IPS technology. I agree that my sympton is not that profound. The first time I noticed it is when I try to watch a movie in a dark night. In normal use, I can't say I have much bother. Except when I let the browser enter the full screen mode, since most sites use a white background, then I can see a small area of the left bottom of the screen is a little whiter, which is not profound but kind of distracting though.
I've asked one friend of mine who used the 2012 rMBP and he said he have the same condition too... So now I really wonder whether it's a common issue as the advisor said. Please download this full black image, open it and go to the full screen (or presentation) mode. Turn off your light and increase the brightness of your screen if it's set too low. Then check whether you have the same issue with me. Thanks a lot!

Yes, I also have the same problem on my late 2013 rMBP. I've returned the model 4 times already due to various defects. Can anyone see the uneven white balance from left to right screen where left side looks more yellowish?Very disappointed at the quality of the screen. Looks like this is "normal." Should have purchased the New Samsung ATIV 9 instead.

  • Uneven Backlight Fixes Itself?

Okay, when I first fired up my MBP the screen looked horrendously lumpy! The backlight was incredibly uneven, with shadows all over the place.
After three days of using it, the lumpiness has all but disappeared, and the screen seems fairly even bar a slightly darker strip about third of the way up the screen.
I still have a bright 1/2inch strip at the bottom (which I believe is light spillage from the backlight tube), which is a bit annoying but not worth sending the machine back for in itself.
So (not that I'm complaining) can anyone explain why the uneveness of the backlight would improve?

I think the best way to see where you get light leakage is to take pictures of it with your digital camera, or look at the view area of the camera. It sure reveals a lot spots and leaks.
But that is another story. I think its not so much that it improves, I think its your eyes playing tricks on you. Maybe there is improvement but, for the most part its just your eyes. Also hold the scree up to a mirror and you'll be able to see more lighting problems. It's really weird how when you look at it from a different perspective it looks different.
I don't know thats just my 2 cents. I have gone through swapping 10 MBP and I've settled with the most recent one. Its not perfect by any means. The battery feels loose but I'm willing to forgo that for a decent screen. Which this one is quite good compared to some other ones I had.

  • MacBook Pro retina display warm yellowish tint.

I had my MacBook Pro retina display screen replaced. But the new screen they replace for me has a warm yellow tint on the display.anyone else have the same problem?I went back to the store they say thats normal they wont do anything. what Can I do?
The it's very yellow. I using a iPad and Mac Pro at home. Every time I put my eye on my MacBook it just make my eye very uncomfortable. Very warm and yellowish.

Hi Rzeng123, Thanks for sharing. I also sent my MBPR for second time LCD replacement. But I have no confidence with apple now I am pretty sure I will end up with a second YELLOW screen just like you.I bought my mac in London, but I am right now in Singapore there is no apple store only got reseller and authorized service centre. So I can only send my mac to the authorized service centre for repair. Luckily the manager is not blind as yours but they keep telling me that this kind of obvuous yellowish screen has no problem and it is perfect within specification. So he refused to help me change again at first until I speak to a senior apple advisor through phone call( I have spoken to apple technique support for three times before I finally speak to this "useful senior guy".) The manager in the service centre agreed for a second replacement and as he said before no guarantee.  I don't understand why Apple didn't draw attention to this issue. U and me are not the special cases. I did reserch online before I took my mac for repair people were complaining the same problem as we are. http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1561150
As for calibration, this is useless for my machine I have tried to adjust the color.May be I will try after I get my second replacement.  Like u said every apple staff are trying to convince us this yellow screen is normal, if it was why the devices sold in store are not yellow ? They service mananger even told me that those sell in store now are the first batch of manufacturing and they are actually with defects but this yellow one are the second batch with improvement and it is better than the white on
I also take my mac to a retail apple store for comparison just like the picture shown below the left one is a normal retina display and the yellow one on the right is my poor mac.

  • Uneven backlighting and light leakage

OK, just booted up my new MBP and so far I'm pretty disappointed with the display. The backlighting is uneven and there is significant light leakage around the bezel. Furthermore, it doesn't seem to be even as bright as my 1GHz Ti book. I'm thinking that one of the lights in the MBP may be out.
Anybody else having similar issues? If most people have these great looking displays then I'm going to have to call Applecare and get it fixed.

Well, one thing is that it was pretty cold when it arrived. Having used it for a bit now, it looks better. Still not as awesome as I was expecting (the rest of the machine is absolutely great though). Unfortunately, I live no where near an Apple store, so I'm trying to decide if it is in fact flawed before I have to call Applecare and ship it back.
    Thanks for the input.
