Uneven black splotches encroaching on screen from top and bottom

My screen recently began showing some white patches at the bottom, but black splotches forming a line at the top and bottom have appeared today--it looks as if some dark liquid had seeped under the screen from both edges. It has not been in contact with any liquids. Is anyone familiar with this problem? Thanks

Thanks. Actually, I now know it is some kind of moisture, though I don't know how it got under my screen. The G4 had been sitting on my desk unused for 5 days. Once I started using it again, I found that the splotches on the bottom of the screen disappeared over course of a day. Today I set my G4 on a table upside down with the screen hanging over the side. Within 15 minutes splotches started to seep in from the bottom again. I live in the tropics, and will go to a Mac service center to find out if the problem is common here (it's the first I've seen of it in 2 years), and how to deal with it.

Oh wow, looks like a new feature.
The "page" links in a stylesheet with the address "resource://gre/res/TopLevelImageDocument.css". If you remove that reference, then the image displays in the old style.
'''''Edit: Please skip the rest of this post and check out the next one.'''''
There might be a more elegant solution than that, but you could use a bookmarklet to strip out that link when you want to view the page in its old style. A bookmarklet is a snippet of JavaScript you save on the Bookmarks toolbar for quick access.
First, copy the following code to the clipboard (it's all one long line):
    <br>javascript:var ssheet=document.querySelector('link[href="resource://gre/res/TopLevelImageDocument.css"]'); if(ssheet)ssheet.parentNode.removeChild(ssheet); void 0;
Next, if you are not displaying the Bookmarks Toolbar, use View > Toolbars > Bookmarks Toolbar to display it. (If you aren't using the classic Menu bar, press Alt+v to call up the old View menu. Right-clicking the gray area just below the page address also allows you to display the Bookmarks Toolbar.)
Right-click on the Bookmarks Toolbar (or Mac equivalent of right-click!) and choose New Bookmark.
Paste the code into the Location box (the second box).
Then type a useful name in the Name box (e.g., Oldstyle Picture) and click Add.
Now, when you want to tweak the image display, click the button to run the script.
Manual clicking is a hassle, so it might make sense to look into other solutions. (Greasemonkey didn't seem to work; I think it might not run on .jpg files.)

  • Ghosting from top and bottom of the workspace edges when moving around workspace?

When I move around the workspace dark grey slightly transparent bars appear to be ghosting from the top and bottom of the workspace. If I move so they go off screen they disappear but more are made as I move around. Tried restarting Illustrator and my laptop, I have the newest version of Illustrator CC.
*Update - It appears to only happen in my one file, when an image I'm drawing over is put on a lower opacity. If I have it opaque there's no weird line ghosting, but as soon as I make it more transparent the lines start appearing.

All I am doing is the following:
import my mov file that is 1024 x 820
    create a sequence that is 1024 x 768
    export the sequence
I made a video showing the steps (very boring, sorry).
I'm sure there is something simple I'm missing. i'm 99% sure my result is wrong from the looks of it in the movie player.

  • Horizontal dark 'bar' across screen from top to bottom

    Hi there,
I was hoping somebody here might have a clue as to what's wrong with my Macbook Pro. It's a Santa Rosa 2,2ghz from November 2007.
Left my computer unattented (in my living room) with the screen open for a hour or so and when I came back the screen sorta 'blipped' when it came out of sleep mode and now sports this great new 'undocumented feature.' Which is a big bummer since I don't have apple care so no more warranty.
I took a (crappy, sorry) picture of the screen with my iPhone. You can look at it here:
    http://www.milanserver.nl/various/IMG_0392.jpg
Anyone here have any idea what's happened here and what needs to be done to fix this?

Sounds like a logic board issue, but you could try a restore first.

  • Remove Black Bars from Top and Bottom

    Here's my situation:
I shot my footage FULL FRAME (not anamorphic) but while shooting my footage I had markers on my LCD for a 2.35 Aspect Ratio.
Now that my footage is edited I dropped the FCP matte filter for 2.35
For those of you out there I know I did not use a anamorphic lens and I know I did not shoot it on 16:9 format. But is there a way to crop out the Black bars?
Again like the previous post I would like to remove the black bars and have my QUICKTIME MOV. play like the ones on APPLE's Trailer site: http://www.apple.com/trailers/
Can anyone out there explain how to do this? Other then just drop this and change the size...WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? If you can provide more step by step information that would be great!

    1. Create a New Sequence in FCP (Command-N)
    2. Bring up your Sequence Settings (Comman-Zero) and alter them...
2a. so that your Frame Size is (approx) 720x306
2b. set Aspect Ratio to Custom.
    3. Drop in your widescreen-filtered footage (they'll be shrunk, so...)
    4. Select your clip (or all clips) (Command-A)
    5. Remove Attributes (Option-Command-V) and select 'Basic Motion' then click OK.
    6. Your movie should now (pretty much) fill the 2.35:1 sequence.
You'll probably need to tweak the frame size slightly (It's been a while since I've done this so my number(s) might be off).
Also, when you (ultimately) Export Via QuickTime Conversion (for the web?), be sure to take into account that the web uses Square Pixels - so resize your QT movie (in the Save Dialog, under Options) to be 640x306. (Again, my exact numbers might be off)
    Good luck.

  • Pages; Tables; Only have an Indent from top and bottom

    Hello,
Maybe my title is a little confusing. I'm trying to create a table that is aligned with the regular text blocks above and below. Now if I add "text inset" to my table to make the space between the individual rows a little bigger, the text is also indented to the right and left.
In the attached image you can see the result. The little green arrows indicate where i'd want my text to be positioned. So far I couldn't find a way to properly set this up or work around the default setup for tables.
I'd be really happy for some support
    Best

In Pages 5.1 set the Text inset to zero:
    In Pages '09:
    Inspector > Text > Text > Inset Margin: 0

  • Squeaking noise from top and bottom corners.

    Hi again.
I have squeaking problem since day on. When I reopen My Lumia 635 to insert SD card it started to squeak. Is it covered by warranty is My question so I can add it as defect to My stuck pixel problem?

hi mate if you are having those problems, you need to take your phone back to your point of purchase. if they are being less than helpful, then you will need to take it to your nearest Nokia Care point for inspection

  • My PC has blue screened twice in the past week so I force quit it it came back on a few times after that it is now grey screening with inch wide blue lines from top to bottom the apple logo is there and it is trying to boot up but nothing happening

My Mac has blue screened a couple of times this week it started to work a couple of times after that but now it is grey screening with inch wide blue lines from top to bottom the apple logo is also there it is trying to boot up again but won't. Not sure don't know anything about how to fix things but I suspect the fan has stopped working as I can't hear one. The problem I have I now live in Turkey and I am 1000 km from the nearest apple shop which is in Istanbul I believe and I now live in Didim, Altinkum I don't trust the everyday Turkish shop to take it to as they will tell you they know how to fix it but will probably make it worse, typical in Turkey. Please can someone help as we use it for our business and obviously I need it up and running ASAP I am using IPad and iPhone at moment but can't access my files which are on PC.

    Thanks for that information!
I'm sure I will be calling AppleCare, but the problem is, they charge for the phone calls don't they? Because I don't have money to be spending to be on the phone with a support service.
In other things, it seemed like the only time my MacBook was working was when I had Snow Leopard without the 10.6.8 update download that was supposed to be done to prepare for OS X Lion.
When I look at the information of my HD it says that I have 10.6.8 but that was the install that it claimed to have failed and caused me to restart resulting in all of the repeated problems.
Also, because my computer is currently down, and I've lost all files how would that effect the use of my iPhone? Because if it doesn't get fixed by the time OS 5 is released, how would I be able to upgrade?!

  • Can you trim top and bottom black from videos?

    Hi
I have a project where I need to make all my video clips the same height.
Some of the clips are in widescreen, and I'd like to trim the black from the top and bottom so that I maximise the height of the footage.
Can this be done in elements, and if not, are there any programs that you can do that in?
Thanks for your time and help.
    Shaun

    John,
Glad that you found it. I use it constantly, as I often animate my Titles with Keyframed Effects, and will just Copy/Paste Attributes to all. Same for Effects that are common to multiple Video (or Audio) Clips.
One caveat: when planning on use it, do one Clip with the complete Effects line-up, then Copy. Select all other Clips that you wish to Paste Attributes to. If you have already added some Effects, beyond the Fixed Effects, you will get multiple instances of that/those Effect(s), i.e. if you have already added Color Correction to the destination Clips, an have Color Correction in your source Clip, you will likely get 2 instances of Color Correction. Plan ahead, so that you do not have to go back and Delete any duplicated Effects.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • I just jazzed up my 2 Ghz iMac with 10.6.8, and 4 gigs of memory. I'm VERY happy with the results (fast!), but now I have a thin yellow line way over on the right side of the screen, which goes from top to bottom. This is really strange! Any input?

I'm VERY happy with the results (fast!). However, the really strange thing is this - there is now a thin yellow line, way over on the right side of the screen, which goes from top to bottom, and stays there no matter where I go or what I do. I've never seen anything like this! It was not there before I did the upgrades. Anyone out there ever heard of such a preposterous thing ~ or have any ideas on how to get rid of it?

    Hello Mark,
It's going to mean a lot of reading but you should study the 'More like this' legend to your post's immediate right.  >>>>>>>>   plus some of the links within each.
The problem is well explored with much guidance on what to do and where to go.

  • Change IM Chat screen to Top to Bottom from Side t...

I do not like the new UI! I prefer the older version. Specifically I have a problem with the chat window being forced to the side of the screen instead of from Top to Bottom like in the previous versions. If there is a way to change this I would like to do so. I believe where the chat screen is located during calls should be optional and adjustable. Where the chat screen is located is important because it affects the resolution and size of the video. A wider video for instance might be prefered over a narrower look.

I'm not sure exactly where your tabs are, but generally speaking, Firefox can place them either above or below the address bar, always above the web page content. To get them on the left side typically would require an extension.
If you have one named Tab Utilities on the following screen --
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
-- check out this thread: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/953933 My tabs are on the side... how to get them back to normal?]
If that's not it, could you possibly post a screenshot showing where they are? This article has tips on how to capture one: [[How do I create a screenshot of my problem?]]

  • M40-237: small lines from top to bottom on the screen

    I have installed DirectX 9c Feb 2006.
When I'm Trying to play a game , in the center of the screen there are small horz. lines from top to bottom.
How can I solve this problem ?
    Thanxs.

    Hi
Before you try to solve it you must find out why this happen. As far as I know this unit is delivered with DirectX V9.0C. Did you have this problem before latest DirectX installation?
Are those lines there just when you start the game or all the time?

  • I opened my brand new MacBook Pro the other day and noticed a straight green line from top to bottom near the center of the screen. What is it from and how do I get rid of it????

I am having a problem with my brand new MacBook Pro. After opening my laptop the other day I noticed a straight green line from top to bottom near the center of the screen. What is this from and how do I get rid of it? It is most annoying. Please Help!

"What is this from and how do I get rid of it?"
Such symptoms bode serious hardware issues and you shouldn't think about fixing it yourself when you are still in waranty. Get to an Apple Store, like the other poster suggests.

  • Is there any way I can get the pictures on my iPhone 5c to be the whole screen instead of with a black band across the top and bottom?

  • Black Space at Top and Bottom of Screen

You’ll probably tell me to call Comcast, but I’m trying to avoid it due to the hassles getting past the language accent barriers and their standard advice of scheduling a service call whatever the problem. So here’s my question… Recently my wife noticed some of the analog channels are displaying with black space across the top and bottom of the screen, similar to how a widescreen DVD would display. However they don’t all display this way, and there seems to be no pattern as to which ones display with the black spaces and which ones fill up the entire screen. I hadn’t noticed this before because I always watch the HD channels, but she hasn’t learned the HD channel numbers yet as the small bedroom TV is still analog. It’s not a problem on the small analog TV, but compressing the picture at the top and bottom while stretching it across the width of the screen makes all the characters very fat on the wide screen HDTV. As I said, not all the channels do this. Some use the whole screen, and the picture is fine. I know the real solution to this would be to have her learn the HD channel numbers, but as a matter of principle she shouldn’t have to. I’ve checked out the TV thoroughly and am convinced it’s a Comcast issue as it displays the same on both the HDTV and the little analog TV. Anyway, has anyone else noticed this?

It's up to the station/channel as to how SD material is presented. It may also vary with the program being aired. Sometimes it's chopped to 4:3, sometimes it's left letterboxed.
