Uneven length nano earbuds?

I just received my 8GB Nano and i noticed that the earbuds that came with the unit are uneven in length- the left side is about an inch longer then the right side. I'm just wondering if this was normal for the new styled earbuds. Thanks.
  Windows XP

It is mostly a cosmetic issue with me. But to note, when you slide the slide-adjuster up towards the earbuds, like for instance when you want the earbuds tight to your face while working out, then when you slide the slider back down to the bottom of the cord the longer side of the cord gets caught up in a loop because of the unequal lengths. Then you'll have to unslide it again, pull the longer cord, and then carefully slide the slider back down to the bottom position- a bit of an inconvenience if you ask me. I was expecting a bit more quality from apple for a $250 "memory" device.
Because of the unequal lengths, it hangs dominantly to the right side. I guess it's ok for right handed people, which i am, but then again, i prefer to hold the nano in my left hand.
There's nothing wrong with the sound quality. I actually believe these earbuds sound better then my previous mini's.

  • Why my 1st generation nano earbuds not working with 6th generation nano?

    Hi there,
I had a 1st generation iPod Nano and Apple just replaced it with a 6th generation nano, however the earbuds jack of my 1st gen does not fit all the way into the 6th gen, it leaves a tiny bit outside and I couldn't push it all the way in, though I could hear sounds through the earbuds.  Is there anyone out there that experience this?  I thought the earbuds connector is universal.
Also, I'm not sure if this is related to the earbuds not fitting all the way in.  My new Nano shuts itself off about 1 minute or 2 after I turn it on, I am thinking it may think there is no earbuds connected to it, could this be why?
    Thanks for any help!
    Ray.

Push harder, the headphone jack on the 6 is very tight when new.

  • Nano Earbud Problem

I understand and have had experience with earbuds/headphones shorting out and getting static in one earbud but I just got the nano like 3 weeks ago and I refuse to play rock music on it so it doesn't blow out the speakers and yet the brand new earbuds are staticky in the left earbud. Its the buds because they are the same on my other iPod, but could the iPod nano be doing it? I've played at 50 or below volume. Can iPods blow out speakers as a defect or something? Does it make it too hot and then it doesn't work? I just want to know before I put my other iPod earbuds in it incase those do the same thing. The static is annoying.

  • Nano & Earbud Problems. Advice Needed!!!! PLEASE HELP!!! MAJOR PROBLEMS!

Okay, one day I was walking home with one headphone in one ear and the other in my friends, and then I get a shock. It really hurt, and my ears started to burn. Thats just the beginning. I call the Apple Help Line and they tell me they will send me a new set. THEN I get an email saying they WONT send me a pair because this JUST happens and it's because it was rubbing against nylon.
One thing though; I DONT WEAR NYLON [it makes me get a rash/hives]. Okay, so then I thought I'll just use the left heaphone [didnt shock me] So I only use this one. And then I remember he says it 'just happens' So I started to use the right headphone. I heard this click click thing and it's my headphone. It then shocks me again.
I thought it was a while since I used my right headphone and it might've stopped [today]. And so I used it, it shocked 3 times in a row. Now my ear still burns. What do I do?!
I don't want to use the right earbud, but I don't hear my songs properly without it and I have to turn up my volume with just my left earbud in and everyone know's what I'm listening to then because that's how high it is.
Any advice? This really bugs me.

Im still confused, the guy on the phone said I DONT have to return the headphones but on the page it says
Important: You must return your defective part to Apple. When you receive your replacement part, please check your box or envelope for return shipping
instructions. If you do not return the defective part,
we will charge a non-return penalty to your credit card.
_ I agree to pay CAD 23.00 if I do not return my defective part to Apple within 10 business days.
And why would I have to put credit card information if it's 0.00? I dont even have a credit card.

  • Ipod Nano earbud issue

I am having issues with my Ipod, obviously, it's with the headphones/earbuds. I am planning on sending it in before the warranty ends 1/28/2011 but I have a question... The headphone jack won't play like it should, if I have computer speakers hooked up they have to be at full volume. If I use my headphones with the Ipod and if I am in the quietest possible area I can get to, you can faintly hear some of the louder instruments, the headphones work with my computer perfectly, and i've tried many other headphones I know work with my computer exactly like they should but don't work with the ipod. It all of a sudden just stopped working one day, after about 7 months, I have reset it several times since it stopped functioning and nothing helped. Now I just use it for the camera and for streaming musuic to my Xbox. Everything else on the ipod fuctions EXACTLY like it always has. It's not my music or videos, the internal speaker works fine. My question is would I select the catagory "Headphones" or the category "Ipod Sound" while requesting repars, and if I could get any tips on support for my Ipod.
    Thank you, -Ccls2-

    "select" ?
If you are still under warranty and/or have Apple Care, call tech support & tell them exactly what your problem is. Simple as that!

  • Where can I get earbuds for my iPod Nano 6th Generation?

I lost my earbuds for my 6th Generation iPod Nano, and I was wondering where I could get some more. I tried iPhone earbuds and they didn't seem to work, so I assume there is specific iPod Nano earbuds. Can I buy them from Apple? Or do I just have to go on amazon or something. Or could I buy them at a store? Thanks!

There are no specific Nano earbuds, any of them with a standard cable will work.

  • Converting from spreadshet string to array and then back to spreadsheet string

My questions is; why is the Spreadsheet string to array function creating more data than the original string had when you change the array back into a spreadsheet string. Im trying to analyze a comma delimited file using array functions since my column and row size is constant, but my data varies. Thus my reason for not using string parsing functions which would get more involved and difficult. So, however, after i convert to a 2D array of data from the comma delimited file I read from, and then I convert back to string using the Array to Spreadsheet String, I get added columns to the file, which prevents another program from receiving these files. Also, the data which I am reading is not all contiguous, it has gaps in some places for empty data. Looking at the file compared to the original after it has gone from string to array and then back to string again, looks almost identical except for the file size which got larger by 400 bytes and where the original file has empty spaces, the new file has a lot of commas added. Any idea?
    Charles

The result you get is normal when the spreadsheet string contains rows of uneven length. Since the array rows have the same number of elements, nil values are added during the coonversion. And of course, the back to string conversion keep those added values in the string, with the associated commas.
    example : 3 x 3 array
    1,2,3
    4
    5,6,7
    is converted into
    1 2 3
    4 0 0
    5 6 7
    then back to
    1,2,3
    4,0,0
    5,6,7

  • Questions about iTouch

I currently have my Nano earbuds as semi-permanent fixtures except during downloads but am considering an iTouch but have the following questions
    1. Will the iTouch work well in Europe? I'm traveling for 6-7 weeks in Hungary and Croatia and would like a wifi alternative to internet cafes. Is wifi an international standard and readily available there?
    2. I'd still like to used my Nano for listening with its smaller footprint. How will iTunes handle updating two devices?
    3. Is there a way to set up "batch" downloads of podcasts without iTunes with a wifi connection?
    4. Can I load iTunes to a USB Flash Drive to plug in at an internet cafe to download podcasts?
    5. The feature I look forward to is GPS on the iTouch. Is GPS software based or require another chip in the iTouch. Any ideas?
    Thanks for any help. Michael

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    1. WiFi is a standard so will work wherever you can get access to a hot spot. Remember hot spot size is measured in a few tens of metres so it's availablity varies wildy whereever you are in the world. You should get the website of the place you will be accomodated in or a more general site like this:
    http://www.wifinder.com/advanced/results/country/croatia_hrvatska/1/0/0/0/html/
    2. On a Windows machine you can only connect one iPod at a time but iTunes will handle each iPod seperately exactly as it does for a single iPod.
    3. You can't download podcasts over the iTunes WiFi Store although there are a few sites you can listen to podcasts when you are in a WiFi zone AFAIK they can't be saved to the iPod.
    4. Not sure. Syncing your additional applications might be a problem if you bought these from the iTS rather than them being bundled.
    5. There is no GPS on the +iPod touch+ only a Maps application that with some hot spots can tell you where you are within a few tens of metres by knowing the address of the router you're connected too. I doubt you'll find that many that work as you travel around and again you'll need to be in a WiFi area.

  • 3rd party earbuds/phones not working with new Nano

So, I've got a new Nano ( a couple months old at this point ), and the earbuds that came with it got accidently trashed.
No worries, because I've got several other sets of earbuds / headphones kicking around.
The problem is that with all of them, the sound keeps cutting out / playback stops.  I'm fairly certain that this is the iPod detecting "no headphones" and stopping playback.
It happens whenever the plug flexes; it's as if the jack briefly loses contact with the internal connectors.
Since I usually keep my iPod in my pocket, this happens quite often.
I don't know whether the new Apple earbuds (with volume control/mic) would react the same way; I won't buy them, because I can't have them at work (anything with a microphone is banned).
    Anyone have thoughts / help?
    Thanks!

    Ok, more follow-up.
Roommate had a pair of iPod buds that he'd never used, and let me have them.
There are marked differences between the iPod 3.5 mm jack and a "standard" 3.5 mm jack.
The standard 3.5 mm jack has three sections, tip, middle, and call it 'core'.
The iPod jack has 4 sections, tip, middle, core 1 and core 2.
The seperator for each of the common sections (tip to middle/middle to core(core1)) are at the same place.
I suspect that the "core 2" is how the the iPod/iPad/iPhone uses the microphone.
No big deal, except I can't have a microphone, at all, period, at work.  Absolutely forbidden (if I want to keep my job).
Breaking out the micrometer (yes, I own a micrometer), it looks as though the iPod jack is a lot closer to the 3.5mm tolerance, than the standard one, which may be the issue.  That is, the core1/core2 sections are 3.5mm exactly, whereas the 3rd party jack is 3.46mm.  I wouldn't think that would make enough of a difference, but apparently it does.
So, I'm back to my starting point:
Is there an "approved for iPod" set of headphones that doesn't have a microphone built in?
