Uneven trackpad?

I just got a 15" Macbook Pro. The trackpad seems a little bit uneven. It is higher on the left side and sits flush with the main body while the right side is a little sunk and isn't flush with the main body. Is this normal?

well, my one dont look like that, but if it works normally, then there is no problem at all

  • Bumpy/Uneven Trackpad!

I was wondering if anyone else has an uneven trackpad. I just noticed that mine has a lump in it about 1.5 cm above the clicker. It extends for about a 1 cm, and then goes back even. It is about 2 inches long directly in the middle. I noticed it when I was scrolling, and it was feeling funny. It is not directly noticeable with the eye, until you look at it from an angle, and you can definitely see it then. Pretty annoying. I am going to call Apple after having this post up for a few days, just so I can get some feedback first. Thanks.

I will indeed mention that. What method did you use to have it replaced? Did you send it in, or did you take it to your local Apple Store to have replaced? Which ever method you used, how long did it take?

  • Uneven trackpad button.

Hello. I just recieved my new iBook and everything is great, except for the trackpad button. It is uneven, with the left corner permanently depressed so that it is higher on the right side. Should I take the computer to the store and get it fixed, or is this nothing to worry about? The button itself seems to work fine, albeit with a loud noise. Thank you.

My trackpad button is higher on the right side, but
it doesn't seem to matter. I think the loud noise
would happen even if it wasn't as the button is
    pretty thick.
It would cost money to get it looked at or fixed, so
I don't really think there's much point, you should
    be fine.
so long as its under warranty still (especially right out of the box) it wouldn't cost a thing...my trackpad button does the same thing and its noisy and acting up now.

  • Is a slightly uneven trackpad normal?

I recently just got the newest Macbook Air and after a week of use i noticed that my trackpad was a little funny. The bottom left corner is flush with the body but the right dips a little in. I mean it isn't too bad really but i don't understand why its like this, I never click to click on tabs i use the tap to click option on the touchpad. Is this anything to take this to the apple store about? or is this just a slight Imperfection that a lot of people face?

You can take it to your local Apple retailer. Make a Genius Appointment first. You will most likely have to leave it. I don't think they will fix it while you wait.

  • Uneven track pad

I have a 17 inch MBP and I notice that the track pad is uneven on the left and is on the right. The left side goes up and is a little higher than The base of the unibody. It this normal? And am I the only one that has this problem?

Alas, there doesn't seem to be any problem with performance as a result of the uneven track pad. Aside from which, there's no way to determine the reason for the uneven trackpad surface.
This is an issue that has been mentioned in Apple Forums for over four years, now. If this bothers you - and judging from the post, it does - I'd present the case at the Apple Store's Genius Bar. Apparently, you're still not under warranty, but there's a chance that that Apple might perform the repair gratis - or quote the price. I'd document the problem with similar posts to bolster your case.
I'm interested in knowing how this comes out. Post here with the results.

  • Uneven cursor movement on trackpad

Recently my cursor started becoming incredibly uneven. When i move the cursor fast on the trackpad, there is no uneven movement, and it is asa smooth as it's always been. But when i move the cursor slow, there is. I have to move the cursor rather fast in order for it to move at all. i have tried the program "smoothmouse", but it didn't help. When i plug in my usb mouse, the movement is fine, and as smooth as ever. i haven't used any other mouse devices before this happened, and i have been unable to find the problem anywhere else on the interwebs.
    I own a 2010 Macbook (not pro).

  • Trackpad with uneven click after 'fall'

i have pretty well 'babied' my MBPro 7,1 which i bought almost-new 2 yrs ago...it's the unibody aluminum case.
Today a foot caught the power cable and the Book slid off a low table falling almost horizontally about 2 feet
off the tabletop onto a carpeted floor.  All seemed normal but i swear that now the 'click' depth of the left side
of the trackpad is reduced - so it's spongy, less responsive, mushier etc. on that side - left-front) - than the
right side. Definitely somewhat uneven now.  Was pretty perfect before - this one doesn't get a lot of use.
Any ideas on what might've happened, and any kind of fix i could try  -rather than bothering to take
in to a A-Store and see if they would/can do anything to remedy it?  I know i can go to the touch-pad
but i still like the tactile mouse 'click' ...
    THANKS!!

You may look at the iFixit.com and Powerbookmedic.com web sites and see what they may have to offer.  However I would still make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar.  They can at the very least tell you what has to be done and if the adjustment is quick and simple, they maybe can fix it gratis.
    Ciao.

  • Uneven MacBook Pro Trackpad

The left side of my trackpad is about 1mm down and on the right it is about 1mm above.
    Why is this?
    Thanks in Advance

Could be a swollen battery. If you have a model with a removable battery, examine it. If you have a built in, you can open up the bottom enclosure with a #00 screwdriver if you feel comfortable doing so. Have it checked out by Apple. Swollen batteries should be addressed immedietely if this is the case as they can cause damage to peripheral components.

  • Trackpad click uneven

    hi
it seems to me that the trackpad click sounds different on the left and right side. left side is click, right is cliick and a little stiffer.
will this wear off by using the right side more?

    Hi Gaura,
I do not know if it will wear off. While waiting for that, you may wish to make sure there is nothing lodged under one side of the trackpad causing the issue. Take a can of compressed air with the thin "straw" tip attached and spray the air in one side while clicking down on the other side (so the side you're spraying raises as much as it can).

  • Uneven backlight is "normal" on retina MacBook Pro?

I bought my 13'' Haswell retina MacBook Pro days ago, I've experienced the unresponsive trackpad issue and I'm happy to see it's already resolved. But now I've encountered a new issue, and it's about the display.
As the picture above shows, in low ambient lightning coditons, I can clearly see the brightness is uneven, the top left corner and the left bottom of the screen is brighter. The center of the screen seems brighter, too. But please ignore it because I suppose it's because of my poor phone camera quality, I don't see any significant brightness with my eyes.
I was considering replace it at first, but later I called Apple, the advisor told me it's "normal"!!! Actually, he said according to my description, my symptom is not very profound, of course I can get a replacement if I insist, but he really can't promise I'll get a better one since it's a normal issue on IPS displays...
To my knowledge, among all the Macs, only iMac and retina Macbook Pros use the IPS technology. I agree that my sympton is not that profound. The first time I noticed it is when I try to watch a movie in a dark night. In normal use, I can't say I have much bother. Except when I let the browser enter the full screen mode, since most sites use a white background, then I can see a small area of the left bottom of the screen is a little whiter, which is not profound but kind of distracting though.
I've asked one friend of mine who used the 2012 rMBP and he said he have the same condition too... So now I really wonder whether it's a common issue as the advisor said. Please download this full black image, open it and go to the full screen (or presentation) mode. Turn off your light and increase the brightness of your screen if it's set too low. Then check whether you have the same issue with me. Thanks a lot!

Yes, I also have the same problem on my late 2013 rMBP. I've returned the model 4 times already due to various defects. Can anyone see the uneven white balance from left to right screen where left side looks more yellowish?Very disappointed at the quality of the screen. Looks like this is "normal." Should have purchased the New Samsung ATIV 9 instead.

  • Trackpad not sending mouseUp on tap?

I have a problem with the trackpad on my 17" MBP (2009, unibody). It's not consistent, but it is happening with increasing frequency. I normally have my trackpad set for click on tap (I hate how the whole pad moves for a physical button-click, plus the clicking noise has always driven me bonkers).
Maybe six months ago, I noticed that tap-clicks were not always releasing, like it wasn't always sending a mouseUp event after a tap. It doesn't show as if it were a trackpad drag or a click-and--hold, but I'm not familiar enough with the trackpad drivers to know what it does with a mouseDown-only event on tapping (since a tap-drag or tap-click-and-hold requires two taps), so the behavior may be exactly that.
What actually happens is that it looks like the click didn't register, and when I tap again, it does one of two things. If the cursor hasn't moved since the first tap, it treats it as two separate clicks (not the same as a double-tap, which is a click-and-hold), so if it was clicking on a button, the button reacts as if clicked twice. If the cursor has moved since the first tap, it treats it as if I performed a drag action from the first click location to the second. So if I had, say, clicked in a text field, moved the cursor, then tapped again, it selects the text I've passed over instead of placing the insertion point where I clicked.
Again, this does not happen consistently, and it seems to vary from one app to another. Safari is where it seems to happen the most, but that may be only a perception based on the fact that I spend more time in Safari than any other app. It does not happen with a full physical click (the trackpad-button actually depressing and clicking), only with tap-clicks. It also does not happen with multi-finger taps, only single-finger taps.
My primary question, I guess, would be: does this seem to be more likely to be a software or hardware issue? If it's software, what would I need to patch/replace/update to fix it? If it's hardware, I guess a trip to the Genius Bar would be called for. (The MBP is still under AppleCare, so I'm not concerned about cost, but I don't want to be without a laptop for the duration of a repair cycle.)

Just to clarify, since you didn't specifically mention it: are you absolutely certain your table is 100%, completely total "flat"?  (IOW, use a metal ruler to check.  A wood ruler can bend or bow so you need something that you are 100% confident is true flat.)  Obviously, if the table is not perfectly flat, (i.e.: is bulging up,) then of course that could cause the Trackpad to wobble.  There are two rubber feet on the front of the Magic Trackpad, but the back under the batteries is "solid."  (See the description in second paragraphy in my response here, if you're not sure what I'm talking about.)  So it is more critical to have the table under the battery area of the Trackpad more "flat" than under the front of the Trackpad, but of course any unevenness in the table could cause a wobble..

  • Trackpad not level

My trackpad is very slightly wobbely/uneven and makes a sound when I'm scrolling that drives me crazy. It's like a table where one of the legs is slightly shorter than the others.  On my trackpad it happens to be the lower left corner.  It wobbles independant from any clicking--if that makes sense.  I can tap it lightly and the thing wobbles.  If I press it, then it clicks.  It's not even two months old and I haven't dropped it, sat on it, or abused it in any way.  I know it's a minor issue--but I spent a lot of money on this computer and I expect it to function perfectly only two months in.
Anyone else had trouble with this?  Do you think Apple would let me switch it out since I've only had the thing for two months?

  • Macbook Air Trackpad

I bought my Macbook Air yesterday and when I got it out of the box I noticed that the trackpad is a bit uneven. When I used it at the apple store, the demo macbook's seemed fine and the trackpad seemed amazing.
I was wondering if this is normal for macbook air or if it's a problem that needs to be fixed.

It uneven on four sides. I have a attached a picture just so I can confirm it.
I have used a older version of Macbook and the trackpad seemed more even. I'm not sure if this is like a trend or something.
Anyways I have attached the picture.

  • X1 Carbon 20A7 Trackpad issues with recent update?!

So I got a recent update on the 30th November 2014 in regards to updating the synaptics software and some other optional updates. Since then, after the updates, my trackpad has been acting up. I can't use it as smoothly as I was just a week ago. When I'm trying to drag files from the  right to left and vice versa its super slow and gets stuck. Is there an updatre fix for this. It's getting quite annoying actually.

this seems to have caused uneven lighting in the LED display, very strange problem. You may need to get warranty service on it.

  • Recessed trackpad right side 1mm

Ok, so I have recently got one of the Haswell Macbook Air's 13in and as of today the right side of the trackpad seemed to be recessed by about 1mm.
Usually this wouldn't be a problem, but! There is a 2 finger guestre I use to bring social networks up by swiping from off the trackpad on to it and its uneven.
With it only being off by a mm or so, would Apple do anything about it as I am quite a way from an Apple store?
Any help would be greatly apreciated.

If this is a brand new Mac, you have 14 days from the date you received the Mac for an exchange or refund. Check the email confirmation you received from the purchase. That has all the details.
