  • Error-code when launching Time Machine from MacBook Pro

I´ve get this error-code when launching Time Machine: An unaspected error has acourd (errorcode -6584)
    Solution on this?

Sounds like OSX has lost track of where it is.  Try a "full reset" of Time Machine, per #A4 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
If that doesn't help, try repairing your backups, per #A5 there.

  • Problem when entering time machine

Ok ever since Leopard when entering time machine it freezes for the longest time causing me to reboot the computer. Why is that my eMac meets the min requirements and I have finder on set to coverflow. When entering into time machine it freeze during the process of trying to display coverflow. The only way to bypass this is for me to browse the backup drive without entering to time machine like if it was a regular drive then copy and past.

    Does anyone know?

  • When entering Time Machine, sometimes backup list won't populate

I notice that on occasion, I'll enter Time Machine (usually this happens the first time after booting) and on the right, there will be no list of backups - no backup history at all.
If I exit Time Machine and re-enter, the list will be populated as normal and all my backups will appear in the list.
    Has anyone else noticed this?

I tried both repairing the Time Machine volume (no errors) as well as trashing the .plist file, yet unfortunately the problem remains.
Further, the problem is intermittent, which is never good when it comes to troubleshooting.
The first reboot reproduced the problem, the second and third didn't, then the forth reboot did.
Under such circumstances, what else can be done? I can only think of reinstalling the OS and migrating all files except for users, or starting a new backup series.
You can do either, of course, but I'd try creating another user, to see if the problem persists. If it doesn't, then you know it's something associated with the first user.
If both users are the same, then I'd be inclined to put up with it for a while, to see if others are having the same trouble and what, if anything, turns up as a solution. It doesn't sound like you'll actually lose anything in the meantime.

  • External hard drive not appearing when entering time machine.

Why does my external hard drive back up on time machine ok, but when I enter time machine (and the external device isn't plugged in) i can't see it?
It appears in time machine fine when the external drive is plugged in, but just not if it's been ejected or
I want to have the ext drive backed up in case I lose it or it corrupts....and if that happens I won't be able to plug it in to see the drive in TM - does that make sense?
I am running OSX 10.9.3 on a Mid 2010 Mac Book Pro. The external drive is a samsung and is formatted to Mac OS Extended (journaled). Time Machine is a standard Apple one and has been working fine for a couple of years

Try holding down the Option Key when selecting the Time Machine menu, then select Brows Other Time Machine Disks. See if you can then browse the backup of that drive. The normal Time Machine display is kind of a “live” restore point thing, if that makes sense.
I’m not sure if there is anything in Pondini’s FAQ, but you might peruse it and see if he discusses that issue: http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html

  • When entering time machine with Mail app, old emails are showing in inbox

    Hi All,
Has anyone encountered this issue or has a solution:
When I am in Apple's Mail application, specifically in my inbox and I "Enter time machine", my inbox count goes up by at least 100 extra emails and is showing in all recent backups and even in the "Now" setting. Old emails that I've already read and deleted/dealt with are showing up there and I'm not sure why. When I exit time machine, it goes back to normal and they disappear. I would like to have it accurately reflect what my inbox looks like now and the last few days. Any suggestions are much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Chris

I've tried what you suggested with all the steps, but additional emails are still showing in inbox in "Star Wars" mode. Also, many of the old emails showing are from over two years ago. Very strange!

  • Solved: Mac appears to hang when "Enter Time Machine..."

I run TM and keep my sparse bundle on a Synology Diskstation NAS.  Since the begining in March 2011, my Mac has always appeared to hang after trying to "Enter Time Machine...."  I am now running Lion 10.7.2 and DSM 3.2-1944 and seeing the same issue.  It turns out that this appears to be a bug in the fancy TM graphics interface.
TM uses a cascaded Finder window to allow you to brouse your backup history.  If you run multiple "Spaces" and the existing(new) target Finder window does not reside(popup) on your current Space, you never get to see the cascaded display.  Yet, if I ensure that there is only one Finder window open and it is displayed on my current desk top, then the fancy cascaded TM interface displays just fine.
Note, if you do happen to "Enter Time Machine..." on a secondary Space, just hit ESC.  TM will exit and the current Space will pop over to the target Finder window.  If you "Enter Time Machine..." a second time, it will work fine as the target Finder is now on the current Space.  Looks like someone failed to issue "set current Space" before disabling the Spaces manager...
    UPDATE:
Looks like I am rediscovering known bugs, #3: http://pondini.org/TM/E4.html but above is an alternate workaround to turning off "Spaces".

If you're really at 10.5.8, do you have the 10.5 Install disk to boot from & Install that... so we can get further?

  • What does an unexpected error occurred (error code -6584) when opening time machine

After a terminal hard drive fail in my 2007 imac which was backed up to time machine I tried to restore some data onto my replacement imac 2.9 late 2012.
I did this via migration assistant - it was a long process about 4 hours - so I went to bed and left it running.
When I returned to the imac I found I had my old programs back but none of the data assosiated with them - word but no documents, garage sale but no templates and itunes but no music...
This is my entire music collection of around 300 gig and all my Garage Sale templates which represent years of work.
Is there anyway to bypass or overcome the error so I can at least get the data mentioned above back?
    any help greatly appreciated
    best wishes

  • Trouble with Time Capsule & Mountain Lion - unexpected error occurr when setting up connection to an existing network

    Hi,
My TC was working perfectly fine until 2 weeks ago...
I have 2 MacBook Pro 2009 & 2012, I used the TC has wireles external hard disk for Time Machine.
I installed Mountain Lion on my oldest MacBook Pro (the newest has already Mountain Lion installed) 2 weeks ago. The installation was not straight forward... I tried to perform a clean installation, but I had difficulties with some applications.. anyway after a few days, everything went fine and smooth, I had to reconnect my TC with but it works fine, I could perform a few back-up with Time Machine.
But ... since 5 days ago, my TC is not find any more when I enter Time Machine... I went to Utility Airport and the TC was not connected, just circeld with dashed line and I cannot enter the set up mode.. I tried several things that did not worked and finally performed a reinitialisation of my TC with restauration of factory setting. This helped a bit because I could finally see my TC in utility arport in the wifi connected devices. I tried to et up my TC and connect it to an existing network. It went fine when specifying on whch network I want to connect, chossing a name for the TC and its password.
But then...  I got an error message: An unexpected error has occured. Retry. I never get the window asking for the password for the network.
I retried but, It did not help, now the airport is no more visible in the wifi connected devices in airport utility...
    Any thoughts, ideas?
    Thanks,
    Yvan

If you have a clean install of Mountain Lion it will remove the 5.6 utility.. but this is still better for setups than the new one. .. certainly for Gen4 TC or earlier.
The setup of the TC manually from v5 utility.
Make sure you use all short names.. for the TC itself and for wireless.. I recommend different name for 5ghz as well.
Use WPA2 Personal security and fix wireless channels.. check 11, 6, 1 in that order.
For 5ghz try around 40 and around 150.. doesn't matter which one.
    Use ethernet if wireless fails..
You will hate me but older Mac with ML upgrade that went badly.. sorry get some help to clean install. the wireless in the Mac itself is then the issue.

  • Entering Time Machine From Mail Gives Photoshop Error!

    Hello everybody,
This is a very strange one: If I enter Time Machine when Mail is in front, and if Photoshop is opened, I always get this error from Photoshop: "Could not complete your request because of a program error."
    What happens is this:
    • I choose the Enter Time Machine command (Entrer dans Time Machine in French, in fact).
    • I hear a beep, but the computer goes right into Time Machine, without a hitch.
    • I can do anything I want in TM.
    • After that, when I activate Photoshop, I see the Photoshop error dialog. I close this dialog and Photoshop works perfectly well.
This happens whether a file is opened in Photoshop or not. It does not happen when Photoshop is in front, +*it happens only when Mail is in front*+.
    I am puzzled...
    RTP

    Hi joshz,
Thanks for jumping in. Well, this is most surprising. There is no record of any error caused by this, no reference to this one way or the other, no error of any kind... I searched with different keywords, Adobe, Photoshop, Time Machine, TM, Mail, to no avail. Anyway it's easy as I can reproduce this error dialog at will: With Mail in front, I enter TM, hear the beep coming from Photoshop (!!!), get out of TM and there it is in Photoshop.
Then I look into the console. An error reported by this event should be the last one and dated correctly, right? Well, there is nothing new.
What literally baffles me is the fact that this happens only when Mail is the active application when I enter TM. I tried every other combination to no avail.
Other info about memory in my answer to orangekay.
I must say that it was very thoughtful of you to translate your post in French. I do appreciate the courtesy. And yes, your French is certainly acceptable, taking into account that it is not your mother tongue and that you probably do not use it very often. The reason why I mentioned the command name in French is that I was not sure of the exact name in English as my OS is in French. OK, I speak it with what my Hoosier friends call "an accent". But then I tell them... "Look who's talking!"

  • Does anyone know why my finder window resizes when I enter time machine?

Can anyone explain why my finder changes size when I enter time machine? I'm pretty sure this didn't happen on Snow Leopard but it does since I installed Lion. It's only a small glitch but it's rather annoying since I have positioned and resized the finder window on my desktop to the place I want it - in the centre of the screen and showing all the folders in my sidebar list. When I enter time machine the finder window becomes shorter, therefore not showing all the sidebar folders. I wouldn't mind if when I exit time machine it reverts back to the way it was but it doesn't so I have to resize over again!
    Anyone know why this happenes?

Take a snapshot of this issue and send it to Apple. I think it may be a small glitch.

  • When I "Enter Time Machine," nothing happens.  Is there some way to fix this?

I wanted to replace a file with an older version, and when I tried to enter Time Machine from the menu bar, nothing happened.  I restarted the computer and tried it again and still nothing.
I have a MacBook Pro with OS 10.7.5.

  • HT201250 What happens when you select Enter Time Machine to restore from backup and nothing happens?

I have Time Machine running on my Mac for several years. No need to restore from a back up until today. I can see the time of my last backup and that was late yesterday. But when I press enter Time Machine nothing happens.
    What do I do next?

See Pondini's TM FAQs for starters.

click on the hard drive in the sidebar and the view will switch.
What about going back in Mail???
start TM while Mail is the front application.
    Thank you
