    Hi,
    I  have reached full memory capacity on my 500GB Time Capsule. I am considering purchasing a 2TB Time Capsule.
    a) Do I need to resave all existing data on the new hard drive or can I start afresh?
    b) Or can I link both time capsules to operate independantly?
    Thanks,
    Paul

    You may not need to buy a new Time Capsule.
    You can connect a USB drive to the Time Capsule, and use it in addition to the TC's internal HD.  You may need a powered USB hub as well.
    Exactly what is on your TC?  If it's only Time Machine backups, you may not need to do anything -- Time Machine will delete the oldest backup(s) automatically when it needs room for new ones.  But if you have more than about 250 GB on your internal HD, that 500 GB may not be large enough to keep backups long enough.
    If you have other data on the TC's internal HD, besides your backups, you could back up to the external HD and use the internal for the other data, or vice-versa.  But TM backups cannot "span" two drives, and you shouldn't mix backups and other data on the TC's internal HD.

  • [HELP ]unexpected low memory usage

    Hi all,
    Could someone help me out with unexpected low memory usage I am facing when I start the DB instance.
    I am running Oracle 8.1.7.3.2 on Windows 2000 Adv Srv with
    2GB of RAM and 3GB of swap area.
    I only have 1 instance with memory related init parameters setted as below.
    shared_pool_size = 293510451
    large_pool_size = 104857600
    java_pool_size = 20971520
    db_block_buffers = 107289
    sort_area_size = 1048576
    avg of about 150~250session so I was expecting the oracle
    to allocate about 1.5GB of RAM when the instance startsup
    Now, when I startup the instance, EXPECTING the oracle to
    allocate about 1.5GB of RAM for himself, and check the
    memory allocation status from the "task manager", it
    shows that 1.4GB of physical memory is AVAILABLE. In another words, the whole system is only using 600MB of
    physical memory.
    Could anyone tell why this is happening and the solution to solve this problem?
    BTW, even if I give loads to oracle using the Mercury LoadRunner, the memory allocation status does not change much while oracle is barely processing each transactions.
    Thanks, in advance

    I work mostly with UNIX but found the following from Metalink document# 46001.1 Oracle Database and the Windows NT memory architecture, Technical Bulletin. I think this answers your question:
    On starting up an Oracle instance all global memory pages are reserved and committed (Total Shared Global Area, Buffer Cache and Redo Buffers). Only a small number of these memory pages are touched on startup and are thus not in Oracle's working set, as more pages are touched they will be brought into memory. Oracle must contend equally with other processes and will have its working set trimmed if other processes are faulting at a greater rate.
    It is unlikely that this trimming will be desirable, especially when the database has a varying workload (high and low usage periods). Two registry parameters exist to allow the administrator to manipulate the working set bounds of the Oracle process, these are :
    - ORA_WORKINGSETMIN or ORA_%SID%_WORKINGSETMIN
    : Minimum working set for the ORACLE.EXE process (units = MB)
    - ORA_WORKINGSETMAX or ORA_%SID%_WORKINGSETMAX
    : Maximum working set for the ORACLE.EXE process (units = MB)
    These parameters apply to all releases from 7.3.x and should be added to the Long postings are being truncated to ~1 kB at this time.

  • Tecra R850-11U doesn't recognise full memory

    My Tecra R850-11U has 8GB (2x 4GB) memory inside. I am running W7 professional 64bit and the machine only shows 4GB as memory.
    I allready upgraded the bios, but the bios also shows 4GB. I have 2 banks of original samsung memory in it; changed one to an kingston bank but it still doesn't show more than 4GB.
    How can i solve this problem?? I like full memory

    It is a bit strange for me. Kingston offers good quality products and memory modules for your Tecra you can find HERE .
    Do you use exact the same memory module listed on this list?

    So where is it telling you it's almost full, if Usage is telling you it isn't?

    Hey guyz... got a little bit of a strange situation with my MSI K8N-F PCB 1.0 systemboard hope you can share you're knowledge on this...
    I got a 2x256MB VR Kingston DDR400 Single sided ram that I installed on DiMM 1-2 and was able to read the memory clock around 200Mhz, but when I transfered the two memories on DiMM 3-4 it only reads them 185Mhz on the BIOS and which confuses me. when I checked the manual it doesn't suppose to lessen the clock speed total to 333Mhz but still should come up to 400Mhz can anyone help me with this?!?! appreciate the feedback....

    try reseting the BIOS by taking out the battery for 10 minutes. try running it again at optimized defaults (that means no overclocking) in slots 3&4.

  • Full memory control: how to read and write memory on any address?

    I am programming in Visual Basic Express a long time, and now i want something more. I need to read and write bytes in memory on any possible address, and also to get a handle or first byte's addres of any declared object(Integer, String, Bitmap, ...) and
    to declare an object to some memory addres. Does anybody know some API function (function that copies blocks of memory from one to another place and gives an address of an object) or any other way to do this, and if knows please write an example code that
    CAN be used and it's VALID in Visual Basic 2010 Express or Visual Studio 2013 Express or similar .net basic tools.
    Thanks

    Hello Donaastor,
    the OS might prevent you from writing/reading to "any possible address" because you could read others memory which is not allowed. You will get a security Exception :)
    But of course you can read/write every part of "your" memory. Than you should use Joel's answer.

  • Unexpected Full GC's?

    I'm trying to track down a Java performance issue, and believe it may
    be related to GC behavior. Quick background: j2se app server running
    Caucho Resin 2.1.12, on RHEL3 with Sun JDK 1.4.2_04, modest number of
    threads, serving approx 50-150 requests per second.
    The system runs as expected until the first Full GC, which happens as
    normal, when the heap has reached near full.
    9235.733: [GC 777863K->768933K(780864K), 0.0228370 secs]
    9236.850: [GC 779237K->779416K(780864K), 0.0259900 secs]
    9236.876: [Full GC 779416K->168274K(780864K), 1.5076750 secs]
    9241.554: [GC 217616K->212151K(780864K), 0.0139170 secs]
    9241.677: [GC 221815K->172838K(780736K), 0.0124830 secs]
    Then, it starts doing Full GC's much more frequently, every 30-300
    seconds (notice that it was 9000 seconds before the first full GC),
    and the heap isn't anywhere near full
    9282.828: [GC 225917K->176877K(780992K), 0.0097920 secs]
    9282.838: [Full GC 176877K->166557K(781120K), 1.0936260 secs]
    9286.648: [GC 216409K->214382K(781248K), 0.0105110 secs]
    9282.828: [GC 225917K->176877K(780992K), 0.0097920 secs]
    9282.838: [Full GC 176877K->166557K(781120K), 1.0936260 secs]
    9286.648: [GC 216409K->214382K(781248K), 0.0105110 secs]
    This continues for the entire life of the application. As you'd
    expect, this is significantly lowering throughput. I've tried all
    sorts of jvm options, including DisableExplicitGC, even though I'm
    pretty sure we aren't calling System.gc().
    Any ideas??

    If you look at your scavenge collections you're not actually removing a lot of data per scavenge. Therefore your new space is filling up with many objects that are long lived. The new space is filling up quickly and so results in a full collection where the majority of your objects are copied into the longer lived "old" space.
    Basically your scavenge collections are inefficeient and so you are just filling up your old space until it becomes full and a full GC happens to clear it out. I'd suggest increasing your new space size using -Xmn, this would give your objects more time to potentially go out of scope and become elligible for collection.
    You might also want to look at your code and see if you are holding on to any object references for too long which delays their collection.

  • Unexpected Full GC: Why did we have a Full GC here?

    Hi,
    I have a scenario where a Full GC occurred. Here are the VM parameters.
    /usr/jdk/jdk1.6.0_24/bin/java -ms6144M -mx6144M -XX:MaxPermSize=256M -XX:+UseParNewGC -XX:SurvivorRatio=8 -XX:ParallelGCThreads=20 -Xloggc:logs/JVM_GC.log -XX:+PrintGCDetails -XX:+PrintGCDateStamps -XX:+PrintTenuringDistribution -XX:+PrintHeapAtGC -XX:+PrintVMOptions
    Note: I am not using a CMS here. Parallel GC is used by default due to my system configs.
    Here is the corresponding log messages: I failed to understand what is the cause of this Full GC. There is no failures in GC log. Tenured is still have lot of space. This Full GC is not by RMI. PERM Gen remained same before and after GC.
    Can someone explain why a Full GC occurred here?

    Hello,
    We have the exact same issue. Did you ever solve this issue? We have a t5220 and have just upgraded our 11.5.10.2 11i system on it from 9.2.0.8 32-bit sparc to 11.2.0.1 64-bit sparc. Things should be faster but arent, and our consultant has tracked it down to high wait times when the apps tier using forms connects to the database tier on the same box. So even though the t5220 is both server and client, there is something about the client sql connection.through TNS that his having trouble. Thanks for any information. We've also created an S/R with Oracle.
    Note: I am well aware of the other issues with the CMT server series but this particular issue seems independent of the regular / known issues and remains a mystery to us. Other known issues with the CMT servers for SPARC:

  • P45 Platinum won't POST with full memory banks

    I have 4 identical 2GB DDR2-800 modules. If I install 2 the system runs fine. If I install 4 the system will not POST, hangs with the memory code. I am replacing an old P35 Platinum that had exactly the same problem (though I was using 1GB modules with that instead of these 2GB modules). 2 modules fine. It doesn't matter which 2. 4 modules bad. Won't POST. Is there some setting that prevents you from using both banks unless you change it?

    They are PNY Optima. I am running them at the default timings (I think the default is for BIOS to handle it itself with SPD). I probably wasn't clear before but both modules are installed in the same bank (both in orange or both in green). I just can't fill more than one bank and get it to POST. These modules all work fine independently. There is some board/BIOS issue that is not allowing me to use both banks. I had the same exact problem with my P35 Platinum with different modules. I could run one pair, but not two pair.

  • Why my iPhone have full memory when I only have two apps downloaded?

    My phone has 15gb. I have only downloaded Facebook and Messenger and now it has 196mb left . Please help me!. (Sorry if I wrote something wrong, I speack Spanish)

    Go to Settings / General / Usage / Manage Storage. You will see a list of all the apps currently installed on the device and how much space each is taking up.  If you tap on each, you will further see whether that space is taken up by the code itself (fairly common in games) or by the app's documents (the norm for apps like Photos, Music, etc.).

  • Memory is supposedly Full, deleted some files, and now I can't open Itunes.

    I have a Macbook Pro but I don't play any games, I've never downloaded movies, but I do download music approx. 16GB and pictures...though not sure how to see how much memory these take up. Recently I've had trouble because my computer keeps notifying me that there is no space on the startup disk...which I can't understand why because I don't really have many files or programs on my computer. I've been deleting old files or things I don't really use and now my Itunes won't open saying there's an error (13014). So I have several questions, what is the best way to make space on the "startup disk" whatever that means, and how can I fix the error that's preventing me from accessing itunes? I have a feeling that my pictures might be taking up a lot of the space, how do I know when a single picture is too large and how could I condense them? Also when the memory gets full, my Microsoft Word starts acting all funky, is it because of the full memory? Thanks for your time:)

    Just as a matter of info you have posted in the MacBook Pro (Late 2008 and 2009) > Using your MacBook Pro (Late 2008 and 2009) forums. Not that your issue matters matters so much where it's posted but in the future you would want to post where users have similar hardware as you do, MacBook Pro (Original)

    In any case as F Shippey suggests you may have directory issues. If Disk Utility cannot repair the directory then you may need a stronger disk utility like DiskWarrior to rebuild the directory.

Quite desperate whitout my txts/emails inbox. Regards.

    Hi All,
    I have manage to increase the phone-memory by deleting the internetbrowser cache. (from 186Kb to 8,2Mb free Mem)
    But to delete installed applications (from phone memory - Not Installed in Massmemory ) doesn't take much afford.
    All my messages, e-mails, applications etc are stored in the Massmemory, but stil 8,2Mb (internal phonememory) isn't much?
    Please Nokia, Create a application/update to clean/delete your internal Memory files!
    Or create a link in the (error)notice in your phone where to find to problem of the full memory to erase some files!
