Unexpected Pauses between tracks & a disappearing Nano

I've had my Product Red nano for nearly a month now & its great, but every so often at the end of a track, the Nano will pause for about 5 seconds before starting to play the next track. Anyone else experience this? I need to know soon, If its defective so I can exchange it out for a different one.
I've also noticed that with the iTunes7 the Nano will sync up, and right afterwards 50% of the time will dissapear from iTunes. My 2G iPod & U2 iPod never have done that in iTunes 7. I called Apple support and they told me that it normal for the iPod to unmount after updating & remove itself from the Left Pane. I don't see how that's normal since it doesn't always disappear. The nano always disappears as soon as I connect any other iPod to the computer. But if one of the other iPods are connected & I plug in the Nano, I see them both until the Nano is updated then it disappears.
It really frustrating cause I will play several tracks & have to manually remove & reconnect the Nano to sync. Anyone have any ideas?

This question is one that crops up a lot on these forums and has been a major source of complaint for as long as the iPod has been in existence.
Currently the only way to eliminate the gap between songs is to import the cd as one track. You do this by using the “join cd tracks” option in the advanced menu of iTunes.
Make sure the tracks are in their correct order, and highlight those you wish to join.
No gaps, but the downside is that you will of course lose the ability to navigate between tracks, and the song info is also lost. The iPod will display the cd title in the song field in the “now playing” screen . You’ll also have one large file instead of a number of smaller ones.
If you would like to see gapless playback implemented to the iPod, add your voice to the many here.

  • Why is the ipod insisting on pausing between tracks?

My ipod 30g is pausing between tracks and there is no apparent way of altering that. This is a serious unresolved problem with the ipod which I feel needs to be discussed until Apple either recalls it or resolves the issue.
I did a search for this topic and I found that the few discussions that existed did not get the airing they deserved before they were archived.
If I didn't know Apple better I would think this is a cover-up. I called tech support and after I assured them that the itunes cd preference was set to no pause they had no answer but to re-install the software which would involve erasing all my content. And you know I got the "I haven't heard of this problem yet.." cliche tech response to de-emphasize a gaping disfunction.
Yes I'm keeping my ipod but they should not have released it for market with this audio anomaly. And yes I will merge all my tracks in itunes because that pause can ruin and entire CD if there is continuous sound.
Does anyone know if Apple is at least considering rectifying this flaw?

The iPod has never supported gapless playback.
    You can suggest Apple add this feature here;

It's no big conspiracy - we're not alowed to speculate here about what features Apple may or may not add in the future, so there really isn't much to talk about.

  • Pauses between tracks? (Brutal 1 or 2 second interruption between tracks)

I would like to know if there is a way to program the iPod so that when I’m listening to an album that is supposed to be heard in continuous playback (no pauses between tracks, like in operas, some new age albums and classical music) I can hear it without the brutal one or two second interruption the internal software inserts between tracks.
Here’s what I have tried. I went to iTunes preferences, in PLAYBACK, and set the CROSSFADE PLAYBACK indicator to ZERO (0) seconds. Then, I updated the iPod. There remains a very noticeable skip between tracks that isn’t there on the original CDs. It is a little better, but still too noticeable.
What I mean is this. When I listen to my CD on my computer or sound system, there is absolutely no gap or skip between tracks…the music just flows on (example : Alexander by Vangelis, or a Wagner opera). The music is continuous. No skip between tracks.
Should I conclude there is no way to import this type of recording on the iPod (and iTunes) without adding a skip (even if only a short one) between tracks?
I have a 40 Gigabytes iPod, version 3.1 of the iPod software.

  • Is it still possible to remove pauses between tracks when ripping a CD?

In earlier versions of iTunes, it was possible to remove pauses between tracks. Many classical CDs have long sections subdivided into separate tracks, yet those sections are meant to be heard without pauses. When a CD with those separate tracks gets ripped, there is a brief pause before the next track starts. Is it still possible to remove those pauses?

Oops. I found the answer to this question after digging for about an hour.
Yes, it still can rip without pauses.
Now my issue is how to join (without pauses) music that ends on one CD and continues (without pauses) onto a second CD.
Any know of any software that does that with MP3s?

  • Continuous play between songs without a pause between tracks

I have a lot of "mixed" cds which I have uploaded into my ipod. The cd's feature many songs mixed together into one continuous flow. Each track is marked (1-?) so you may select a specific song instead of their only being one long track. The problem is that when uploaded into my itunes (and ipod), when the cd is played, there is a pause between the tracks (like on normal cds) which obviously breaks the flow of the music. Is there any way around this?

One other option that I've begun using to separate tracks in a cd with songs that flow from one to the next (Dream Theater anyone?) yet retain the artists vision is to use Apple's Chapter Tool and use this in conjunction with a tool like Scriptbuilder's . "Podcastenhancer". (There are other utilities but this is the one I personally use.)
What this does is allow you to rip the cd with all tracks joined and then add "Chapters" to the file to indicate where each track should start. Created for use in building podcasts (like the iTunes New Music Tuesday podcast) where you want the content broken up, the combination of these tools will help you separate your songs and add album artwork at the same time. What you end up with is one long continuous song file with the ability to jump from track to track on your iPod and select the appropriate "song" in iTunes from the chapter list that appears when the file is played.

  • PAUSE BETWEEN TRACKS

Does anyone know how to put a small pause inbetween tracks when I download them from itunes or burn a cd? Mine all run into each other.

For iTunes playback, go to iTunes Preferences -> Playback and either deselect "Crossfade Songs" or decrease or increase the amount of time it takes for the current song to fade out at the end and the new song to fade in, drag the “seconds” slider left or right.
For burning Audio CDs, in the "Burn Options" dialog which pops up when you select "Burn Disc", you can select a gap between songs from None to 1,2 ... up to 5 seconds.

  • Long Audio Pause Between Tracks. Can that be chang

I get a three second pause of silence between all my audio tracks. For the life of me, I can't seem to find a way to get rid of the pauses. Any idea? Thanks! BillMessage Edited by bsherck on 03-05-200704:2 PM

What is your player? My Zen Micro will take ~3 seconds to change if I manually do it, but if I wait until it changes itself, it seems to pre-load the next song and changes instantly at the end of a song.
Maybe you need to Clean-up or reformat, also?

  • External Hard drive pausing between tracks

Hi, I just transferred all of my music from my macbook pro to my external hard drive recently to conserve space, but now when ever songs play consecutively in itunes there is a big pause (sometimes up to 5 seconds) right before the next track starts--usually when the currently playing track has 3 seconds left. I have a Western Digital 400 GB Passport. Is there anyway to remove, or at least reduce, this pause? It's really annoying... thanks!

Hi. I just got my new iMac and when I first plug it in, I get a message saying that the drive is unreadable. When I open Disk Utility, the drive is in there, but when I click Verify Disk it says the disk needs to be repaired. When I click Disk Repair, it says that it can't be repaired and to back up as many files as I can and to reformat.
This is a major problem. How can I back up my files if I can't even view them ?
Again, I am desperate here. I can't sleep!
    UPDATE:
Okay, I'm not a techincal genius here, so forgive me if my ideas are useless. Don't be afraid to be honest with me. I was reading up on the Disk Image function, in which Disk Utility will copy the entire contents of the drive into a single dmg file. In theory, could I do this, reformat the drive (on my iMac) and then somehow restore my files onto the drive using the dmg file ?
Also, could RAID be of any use for me ?

  • Editing amount of pause time or dead air between tracks in iTunes

Is there a way to increase the pause time between tracks in iTunes? Currently iTunes plays seamlessly from one track to the next, sometimes even clipping the end of a track. I'd like to have a second or two pause between tracks. Is there a way to do this?
    Thanks.

If it's clipping the end of a track, then Crossfade Playback is probably turned on. Turn it off, and iTunes will move from one song to the next exactly as it does on the CD (i.e., with however much space between them as there is on the album).

  • How to Play Back WITH Gaps between Tracks

When I import a CD and then play it back in iTunes, there is practically no pause between tracks.
The CD has a pause of 3-4 seconds between tracks. In many kinds of music, it's disconcerting to have the tracks follow one another instantly.
How do I get iTunes to pause between tracks?
    Thanks for any help.

To obtain a pause betwen tracks go into iTunes "Preferences" click on the "Play Back" tab if you check "crossfade playback" and adjust that you may get the results your looking for.

  • Music - "Dead Space" Between Tracks

    Hello,
Got my music to BB Music Folder OK, and it plays and displays Albums correctly; BUT, unlike any other MP3 player I've used, there is a blank (dead) second or two added between each track.
I listen to music where one track is seamless to another (mainly classical) and the two second pause between tracks is destructive to the listening experience.
I have looked at options and find no setting for this.  Is there a general setting elsewhere that I don't know about?

Dont bring TOS into this. What does TOS really have to do with this anyway. I simply asked a question and received a response that basicly said that I was asking a stupid question.
"Your question gets asked on a daily basis, and has been answered many times. If you search for 'gapless playback' you'll see how just how many people inquire about this."
Hmm... Kinda sounds like I am being belittled a bit because I did not do a search for gapless playback. If you will forgive me, Im not the most technically inclined person in the world. I use my ipod to do what it is designed for, LISTEN TO MUSIC, not look like a trendy person who does not really enjoy music but likes to have one anyway. You can take that as you want.
As far as him not having to do anything with apple, yes it is a good thing. Im sure that apple has better sense than to higher somebody that answers questions like that.
And guess what, I was not aware that there were so many people that had the same complaint as me. I have talked to one other person in my life with an ipod that has had that problem. I guess this would be the thing I can thank Ol' richy for the most is telling me that there are multiple people that wish they could listen to their music without a gap.
Oh, and yes I did happen to send feedback to apple. What are you, his body guard?
And I believe that it is not so much the TOS that should have been reffered to as much as the legend key, Silly me, I didnt notice that he does not have a shiny apple next to his name. But neither do you, are you looking for a job with apple, or just hang out on the forums all day?

  • Eliminating pauses between LIVE tracks?

Hi. I listen to some music on my iPod (4G) and iPod Nano, that is either live, or music that is continuous from track to track, with no break (such as some of the later Beatles albums). Unfortunately, you get a fraction-of-a-second pause between all tracks. It's not noticeable when listening to most music, but it IS noticeable when listening to live tracks. Is there anyway to make the tracks flow smoothly together, and eliminate this pause? Thanks.

  • How can I eliminate the pause between songs on playback on the Nano?

I recently downloaded an album by Steve Reich that is intended to be played as one long uninterrupted song. The album is divided into tracks, however, and my iPod Nano always stops for a second or two between songs.
Is there anyway to get it to play them continuously without interruption?

  • Long pauses between gapless playback tracks

    Hi,
I'm using iTunes 8.2 in Leopard PPC on an iMac G4. I'm experiencing annoying pauses between songs on albums that have gapless playback enabled. The pauses typically run for about 30 seconds, during which iTunes is totally unresponsive. I'm pretty sure this is caused due to the fact that my iTunes Library is located on a network share, but the strange thing is that it never happened before. It only started with iTunes 8.1 IIRC. Non gapless tracks cross fade perfectly, by the way. No noticeable delay there.
Anyone have an idea how I could fix this besides simply disabling gapless playback? TIA!

  • Slight pause between live audio tracks

I've added some Live concert CDs I have where the CD flows flawlessly between tracks without any gaps. But on my 5G 60 GB Ipod, there are slight gaps when the ipod goes from one track to another. Has anyone noticed this and is there a way to fix it or is this just the way the Ipod is?

Your question gets asked on a daily basis, and has been answered many times. If you search for 'gapless playback' you'll see how just how many people inquire about this.
In short... the iPod does not support gapless playback.
If you want to eliminate the gaps, one workaround is to join the individual tracks together, and play them as one single track. You can do this by reimporting the CD into iTunes using the 'Join CD Tracks' feature.
See Step 3 in this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93079
If you'd like to send feedback to Apple to ask that they include gapless playback as a feature in future revisions of the iPod firmware, you can do so on this feedback page.
