Unexpected pop up
A few days back I clicked the icon to open Firefox and a popup appeared that said something like, "This is embarrassing but Firefox is having trouble opening. Would you like to try to fix the problem or start a new session?"
I clicked on Start a new session but since it has bothered me that I may have fallen for a scam or bug infestation. What is the truth?
N.B. I ran an anti virus scan afterwards and nothing turned up wrong.
That means that Firefox has crashed more than once or didn't close properly.
See:
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Firefox+crashes
See also "Firefox hangs when you quit it":
Try to use "Firefox/File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit") to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the title bar.

Tab click unexpectedly pops out to new window
When I click on a tab, every so often (maybe 2-3 times a session), it will unexpectedly pop out to a new window. This occurrence is not like the purposeful downward click to immediately open a new window with the tab, but it is very delayed. In fact when this happens, my mouse pointer instantly jumps to the bottom right of the screen and if I don't move the mouse, the window doesn't open. But, after I move my mouse for a second or two, the tab pops out to the new window. Seems really strange, and can't find an answer anywhere.
Hello,
please install this add-on and see if it remedies the problem:

Every time I try to launch Safari "Safari quit unexpectedly" pops up.
Every time I attempt to launch Safari an error sign pops up saying that safari "quit unexpectedly." I've restarted and searched other forums, but none of them have solved this problem. Anyone know how to fix this?
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if iTunes crashed, you would enter "iTunes" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful. -

Character Palette unexpectedly pop out, how to turn it off?
Hi
Does anyone know how to turn the Character Palette window off?
It keeps on popping up on my computer screen(appear and disappearing repeatedly and won't stop).
Thank you!Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions ...
Try deleting the Character Palette preference file: /Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag this file from the Preferences folder: com.apple.CharPaletteServer.plist to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot.
See if that helps ...

Unexpected pop-up: You can't open the application tar
When running Safari, occasionally a message pops up saying "You can't open the application tar because PowerPC applications are no longer supported." As I recall, the messages appears many times while installing updates. I have Mac OS X 10.7.5 on a MacBook Pro. Is there anything I can do to stop this?
I was in Microsoft Word for Mac just now, and the message popped up again. Is there something else I can do to find out why I get this useless message and/or get rid of it? Perhaps Apple Support Communities is not the right avenue, or I simply do not know how to use it properly. Thank you for any help here.

Unexpected Pop-up when accessing doc through a link
If a link to a document found on the project site, is sent to someone through email they get a pop-up box that requires them to click another button to open the document. The pop-up is "view downloads - Internet Explorer Window".
Is there a way to by-bass this pop-up and have the link open directly in the application? This is not a Project Server issue, rather it's either configuration of the local machine: Browser settings, Popup settings, ActiveX settings, file type settings, or it is due to a restriction on the network. You don't mention what kind of document is giving
you problems or whether it is all types, etc.
Does this help?

Bogus web site pops up in FireFox tabs during use
I recently had some virus problems on my computer. I erased some registry entries, and Trend Micro confirmed that my virus problems were solved. However, shortly afterwards, tabs unexpectedly pop up in my FireFox browser. They all open to the same web site:
http://xn--czsp}ko!my {h-h-hta4h5c38e7b9i3da7xt65c0hf441y/
I then get a message from the browser:
"Alert The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded."
This happens as many as 4 times in a row.
Could you please tell me what is going on here, and what needs to be done to stop it?
Thanks!Gee, I guess I have another problem. I clicked to upload a screen shot of less than 200K and the spinning wheel upload progress indicator appeared to be stuck. I tried a second time but it still just continued to spin so there's no screen shot available. Sorry.

How is one to safely deal with the "Update Adobe Flash Player" Pop-Up?
Good computer security practice would be to *not* click on anything in the unexpected pop-up, but instead close that window and then either:
Go to the Adobe site and download the "Update" from there -- but the site never offers "updates", it just offers downloads of the product.
Open the cited application on one's computer and use its "update" process -- but I can never find the most recent Adobe Flash Player application on my Mac. I've used Adobe's Update process multiple times in the past and the result is multiple old versions of Adobe Flash Player scattered around, but the latest version which the Adobe Flash Player test site at URL: http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ says that I have is nowhere to be found. Right now, running that test on my Mac results in the feedback: "You have version 11,0,1,152 installed"
If one does click on the "INSTALL" button in the pop-up, is the Adobe "update" process which is to run supposed to just add another "new" version of Adobe Flash Player (in some non-intuitive place), or is it also to remove the older versions, or at least the most recent older version, of Adobe Flash Player?
Is there some predictable default location where Adobe Flash Player should be installed on Mac OS X?Tom Panfil wrote:

The download does EXACTLY what the "update" does... it downloads the full new version (about 3.6mb) and OVERWRITES the older version.
In your Library/Application Support/Adobe folder (I forget just exactly where) the plug-in installs for your installed browsers. The updater overwrites the files there. -
IMac built in 2010 Speakers Popping
This is my fourth iMac Core 2 Duo. All previous versions had the known screen issues. This one was built in week 3 of 2010 - no screen problems, actually screen looks good. Before and after all firmware updates.
But the speakers are "popping" randomly. I might of traced it backed to the following... It seems like when I am on iTunes and then start an iChat a very loud unexpected "POP" comes from the speakers. I do not know if it is a transition from iChat muting iTunes or completely random. I use iChat for audio and screen sharing. I am going to try to record the process and narrow it down to see if it has to do with how I am using the two programs. It sounds like they are going to blow up, that is how loud they are. Anyone else experiencing this loud "POP?"
Thanks in advance,
MikePlease take a look on the system volume control, via the keyboard , and the volume control on the iTunes behind the Play and Playing screen.
If the iTunes volume control is low , and your system volume control is in the max , the i chat (or other) alarm sound will come loud .
The best way is to keep the iTunes volume control always in the max , and control the overall system control via the keyboard that way you will have a better sound balance between the softwares Alarm sound and your music .
Also the overall system volume control is on the top right corner .... you can hide or show it it going to system preferences > Audio has a check box there on the output area .
If you have a old sound system near by (with an AUX input) , you can buy the airport express and use the air tunes feature, all the music (from itunes) will go to the stereo and the system sound will stay in your iMac.
Good luck . -
Safari quits unexpectedly every time it is launched...HELP!
When I click on the Safari icon in my dock, it will bring me to the Top Sites page, without the sites filled in. Then, a few seconds later, the window will close and the window reading "Safari Quit Unexpectedly" pops up and gives me the option to relaunch or report. This happens every time I try to use Safari, so I can't use Safari anymore. Please help!!

Why do I keep getting a pop-up that asks for my password on my old ID?
Within different apps, I get an unexpected pop-up asking for my password for my old apple I.d.
Good guess, but sadly no, I don't have any yahoo accounts paired to my macbook pro. When I first got it I attempted to, but yahoo wanted me to pay for thier premium thing, so I never finished it and deleted the whole thing from my system. If it is related to that it is a more than a year and six months after that it started to happen.
Just to cover P's and Q's I did take a look and I only have my moble me and my hotmail accounts paired, nothing yahoo related. -

How do I get rid of all the pop-up ads ?
I have a pop-up blocker activated. Seems they come through my Flash Player. They are very annoying. How do I get rid of them? Using FireFox.
One potential cause of unexpected pop-ups is an extension. Try disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions here:
Orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category (in the left column, click Extensions)
Usually a link will appear above a disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the add-ons page and click the link as the last step.
