Unexpected Program Closures in Illustrator 14.0.0

Two of our users have been experiencing issues where AI will close unexpectedly during any number of tasks. The most recent closure was immediately after attempting to save. The files that these users are working in are between 10 of 50mb with linked files to onsite networked locations. My attempted resolutions have been, reinstalling CS4, Turning off Bridge, Working with local files instead of network files, Changing the virtual memory settings, and Deploying a new workstation to each user. The problem persists. The related worstation specs are WinXP x32, 512mb videocard, 4gb RAM. Has anyone else experienced these types of issues or know of a log file I can check to see what may be happening on these stations?
Thanks for your time, any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Check your server logs and routing. You are losing connections/ seeing session timeouts I would say. AI crashes, because it can't cope with suddenly missing files, which is exactly what happens when your server-side settings are not managed correctly or your network is jammed.

  • Unexpected program closures - music stops, Safari quits

Four times now I've had either Safari quit on me or the iPod function on my iPhone suddenly stop. Once the music stopped when I was doing something else (Web browsing), once it was just playing. Safari's also quit twice. What it does is simply go to black and then show me the main menu. On either the iPod or the browser, returning to the program lands me either on a random page I'd accessed at some point in the past, or a music menu that wasn't where I'd left it.
    Any idea what's going on?

  • Can you protect a PDF document so it cannot be exploded or converted into lines in programs such as illustrator?

We create PDF documents from our architectural programs all the time. Currently these drawings can be imported into other programs such as illustrator and exploded and ungrouped into lines. There is no option for security from this architectural program, but I need a solution to protect the PDF file so that the PDF is a flat image and cannot be exploded or converted into lines. Is there a program or setting in the Adobe programs that can do this??? thanks.

You can set password security using Acrobat (not PDF pack), but it is of no value against a motivated thief, because some apps ignore it.
You can rasterise in Photoshop but this is a terrible thing to do: file size explodes, quality plummets.

  • When Firefox is open the zoom function (option/command/space bar) does not work in Adobe programs (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)

    Mac OS X 10.6.7
    CS 5.5
When Firefox is open the zoom function (option/command/space bar) does not work in Adobe programs (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator). This happens only when Firefox is open and when I close it the zoom functions work fine again without having to restart the applications.
This is intermittent but happens quite frequently each day if Firefox is active.

MDN doesn't mention -chrome being used for ordinary web pages: https://developer.mozilla.org/docs/Mozilla/Command_Line_Options#Chrome
    When I use
    firefox.exe -chrome about:permissions
I get a usable window, but zoom doesn't work as you noted.
How about using an intermediate page and window.open() for the target page? You can (mostly) restrict the chrome of windows opened that way, but it will leave behind the intermediate window...

  • Older versions of a program (e.g., Illustrator)

Do you have to keep older versions of a program (e.g., Illustrator) on your computer?

    Hi,
If you want to save the space then you can uninstall the products. Mylenium has mentioned correct about keeping the Serial No for Product upgrade in future.

  • Free program like adobe Illustrator for mac.

Is there a free program like adobe Illustrator for mac out there that I can use to open an .ai file and make changes, edit, and print.
    Thanks Randall

    Check this:
    http://www.mwebb.me.uk/2013/08/opening-illustrator-ai-files-on-mac.html
recommends Inkscape, which uses the X11 graphics library (which comes from linux). More about X11 from web site MacStrategy:
    Q. Does Yosemite include X11?
    A. No. X11 on Yosemite now uses install on demand. When you first launch an app that requires X11 libraries, you are directed to a download location for the most up-to-date version of X11 for Mac e.g. XQuartz

  • How to unexpected program termination?

    hey guys,
is there a way in java where a program can do some critical operations even if it is about to shut down unexpectedly.
for example if a program crashes due to some cause, is it possible to be able to close any open connections to a database just before it shuts down? or close output files? etc
    Thanks
    Faz.

How long time have you got to do your terminate stuff?OS dependent. Windows brings up a popup after X seconds.
And how sure are you, that it will get ran?
I guess some kinds of killing, like "killall java -9" wouldn't wait for it?That is correct, you can kill it in such a way that it will not be run. But if it is killed this way, then you really really want it dead.

  • 2d or 3d program for this illustration type?

I'm an illustrator who often works in Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. Usually my projects can be solved using these 2D programs (manually drawing on my desk, scanning and then colouring final image in photoshop) but lately I have been questioning whether I should be deploying a 3d solution into my workflow instead.
What is a good versatile 3d program that would be recommended to model the type of image attached to this post (see note below)? (for geological diagrams). I don't have much time to learn a complex major 3d program such as 3D studio max but I am looking for a quick-to-deploy 3d solution that can be learned in a reasonable amount of time for this type of illustration. Any suggestions?
It would appear from this referenced image (see note below for image) it is simply a 2D illustration (has a nice character to it). If I decide to stick with a 2D program could someone recommend one suitable? I've been using Photoshop but perhaps I should switch to Painter (I think thats a Corel product?) or something else. I will need some nice texture to paint with. Is Painter better for fine art rather than technical images?
    Any suggestions?
PS: Image attachment option is not available and so the image is at:

    Thank you,

Hi... I've some experience of 3D apps (Yes, 3DStudioMax and an open source one: Blender.... and years ago a 'light-weight' 3D app I can't rmember the name of just now, it'll come to me). I don't think I'd class any 3D app as 'quick to deploy' as an 'occasional' user. If you're going to use it day-in day-out then sure it'll end up 'quick to deploy'. I think you've made this assessment though.
I've never used Painter so I'm not qualified to comment specifically on how it differs. I would say that I think you'd need to know specifically what it would do.. and I suspect it's a bit like airbrush verses paintbrush... or dare I say: Quark versus InDesign... they essentially do the same thing, they're not 'better' just different... though of course you'll get loads of people will tell you airbrush is better than paintbrush or vice-versa and get pretty evangalistic about their particular experience.. quite often not really very helpful in the end, best will and all that. I use both, regularly, have my preference but on balance... there's really nothing 'killer' I'd say one has over the other. I suspect it's the same for Coral Painter. There is a magazine in newagents for Coral Painter, might give you a feel if you look through it, I have and my feel was as I've just said... nothing 'killer' I'd change for.
If your experience investment is in PhotoShop and Illustrator then consider whether the 'cost' of going back to basics in something else is the thing to do... only you know the answer to that.... you say 'often works'... suggesting you may not have committed considerably yet but perhaps you have?
I suggest researching what others are doing... there are resources on the web with awesome work... both in PhotoShop and Painter... it'll show you what's possible... the surge in material on show opened my eyes to PhotoShops possibilities, an application I thought at the time I knew pretty well. Might help you develop a 'feel' for which way to go.
PhotoShop CS5 has some interesting new '3D' features now which I've not had chance to play with... I don't know if you've got CS5? If not, I'd see if I could sweet talk someone who has it into letting you have a proper look-see.
This is just my viewpoint given in the hope it'll help you out... though... I'm not sure it does. Difficult decision. Best of luck with it.

  • Can i create program, using Adobe Illustrator SDK, which would understand *.ai file format (cs versi

I need to write converter from cs ai files to my own format.
Can i use Adobe Illustrator SDK for creating such a program?
Is there in SDK libraries, which would be used for reading by program cs ai file format?
Must Adobe Illustrator be installed for such a program would work?

Well, if Idraw can do it you would need to figure out which format it likes (probably tiff would be my guess), save in that format and open the image there and proceed with however it works. The only useful advice I can offer is that jpg is a poor choice for any image that includes text. It will be fuzzy.

    Can anyone reproduce this behavior?

    Three things need to check:
    1. If you are using a third party API, first check it
    from vendor.
    2. If you are using Java based imaging capabilities,
see an good example of JFileChooserDemo at java
    tutorial department.
    3. It could be error coming from your imaging software
(if your program is doing scanning)
Please post more code that runs this for further
    investigation.
The answer is no to all of them, but i am implementing java2d functions. There is quite a lot of code, which spans over 2 classes. Are there any code snippets you would like to see in particular?
    Thanks for your reply! :)

Well we are at 10.4.11 right now and 10.4.6 if I recall correctly was a nasty version. I'm running CS2 on 10.4.11 with no constant crashing. You always have the one off goofy crash every once in a while.

  • Programs Unexpectedly Shutdown

I have had my macbook for about one year. Since using it I have noticed that some programs will unexpectedly shutdown while I am using them. For instance, when I am in Word or playing Zoo Tycoon the program will suddenly close and a message will appear that says: "Word/Zoo Tycoon has unexpectedly shutdown." It then asks if I would like to Report or Restart.
I thought both issues might have to do with the age of the programs, that perhaps they were not completely compatible with the newer macbook operating system. I decided to purchase iWork 06 hoping that using the latest Apple word processing software would alleviate my word processing anxieties (and as for Zoo Tycoon, I simply lost interest and stopped playing). After installing iWork I did have some (possibly unrelated) trouble with frequent kernal panics, but I contacted technical support and have not had trouble since.
Anyways, yesterday I was using iPhoto quite extensively when it shutdown unexpectedly. That makes three programs in total that have done this. I did a quick internet search for unexpected shutdowns in macbooks but most of them seem to be more serious, referring to the entire computer shutting down, which is not the case for me.
I'm beginning to think that it has something to do with how long I am in the programs - that maybe the computer gets overheated and therefore shuts the programs down. Usually if the program shuts down once it doesn't happen again that day so it's not like this is completely unbearable, it's just kind of annoying and doesn't seem normal.
Obviously I'm not very computer savvy. I mainly use my laptop for school so I can deal with these unexpected program shutdowns (as I have been since I got it) but since my warranty is expiring soon I thought it couldn't hurt to ask, just in case there is something more serious going on.
So finally (and sorry it has taken me so long) my question is:
Is it normal for programs to unexpectedly shutdown when you are in them for too long?
And if not, how serious of an issue it is? Should I look into getting my laptop replaced?

Replacing your MacBook won't fix this. It is a software issue. It is annoying but I always report what i was doing when it shut down. That may help the programmers fix the reasons for this. NeoOffice usually does this when I am closing it. I have found if I close the document before I shut down it doesn't happen. No rhyme or reason on the others it just happens.

  • Illustrator crashes on launch (cc14, mac)

I'm using the CC2014, latest version of Illustrator, however when I start the program, it loads and opens, I get the Welcome screen. However as soon as I click away the welcome screen the program crashes (Adobe Illustrator CC 2014 quit unexpectedly.) I can post a full crash report, but that's a lot of information, so maybe there's an easy way to post this here neatly?
I've been reinstalling, removing it with the cleaner tool etc, no luck so far. Last resort might be reinstalling all Adobe programs and the Cloud app itself..? I've been reading and I've seen comments about Fonts that can cause these, but it also quite a weird point in the Illustrator launch to quit on me.
I'll be happy to hear from anyone with a solution or idea how to fix this.

Apparently Illustrator doesn't run with older Wacom drivers (from helpx.adobe.com):
    Illustrator CC crashes at launch
I solved the problem by removing all Wacom files completely (apps, drivers, prefs, etc.). I did not update any Wacom files or resources, so I can't say whether that would fix it also. FYI, I have a Wacom tablet but never got the hang of it, so removal was my best and quickest option.
Good luck, I hope this helps!

  • Mail applic on iPad shuts down unexpectedly since moving from 4.2 to 4.3, all the time

    Hello,
ever since upgrading from 4.2 to 4.3 and higher I am experiencing unexpected application closure in the mail program. I have several mail accounts synced with my iPad (1 yahoo, 1 gmail and 2 exchange). I never had this experience under 4.2!

Here's a few ideas to get you (and the other posters as well) back to "normal" operations. The following three steps seem to clear up all but the more bizarre aspects of wireless networking and the touch:
    1. Reboot your router (unplug it from AC power). This will eliminate any router accumulated errors.
    2. Reset the touch network settings - Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings
    3. When the touch restarts, tap Settings > WiFi > Other and re-enter your network name, security, and network password.
Here's a few other things that can cause problems:
    1. WEP encryption - use WPA2-TKIP or use the master WEP hex key in place of your network password
    2. Make sure your router firmware is up to date. No firmware update available and your router is >3 years old? - time to consider buying a new one.
    3. Automatic channel changing by the router - pick one and stay with it.
    4. Router QOS service - newer routers with media streaming features may cause some problems
    5. Not sure if AES encryption (as in WPA2-AES) works correctly. Try the TKIP version which does work.
    6. Hidden Network SSIDs - useless as a security measure and it can force you to log onto your network each time.
