Unexpected reboots in Satellite P100 WXP MCE

Satellite P100-342 - PSPA3E 10 months old. From the very beginning the pc reboots unexpectedly during a working session every 5 minutes about. A complete recovery doesn't solve the problem.
The pc has been sent 3 times to the Toshiba technical service: main board, graphic card memory and hard drive has been changed and bios and graphic card soft updated. After repairs things have improve a little bit and reboots occurs about every hour.
No reboot at all when computer is working alone (downloading big files, playing movies etc..) with no user interaction.

Silas,
Thanks for your interest.
Applications seem to have nothing to do with the problem. I keep a log of all the actions and applications causing a reboot.
Last week I tried to cause a reboot opening a lot of applications and windows at the same time with no results.
However a simple copy and paste, a window opening, internet browsing... may cause the reboot.
The only thing I know is that the cause is not a virus(100%%) nor a cpu temperature problem (95%)

  • Instant shutdown and reboot on Satellite P100-347

My satellite P100-347 keeps shutting down instantly then restarting. Any solutions becuase its still new and very expensive for a replacement.

    Hi there,
it seems your machine is overheating and then it makes a shutdown because of hardware security reasons.
You said it happened when playing NFS carbon, this is a good sign for a heat problem of cpu/vga.
I suggest you to clean your fan and your cooling system, because when its clobbed with dust the system can not be properly cooled and it has to shutdown to prevent severe damage to your precious hardware. Just take a can with compressed air and clean your cooling system (but be gently, otherwise you will damage the fan which transport the air which is heated from cpu/vga)
Just a question: which drivers are installed for your vga? Do you have the original toshiba display drivers? If not, then the problem is self explaining because the timings of the original drivers from nvidia/ati are not suitable for mobile computers.

  • Can I install WXP Professional on my Satellite P100?

    Hello
I have the Satellite P100 - PSPA3C-SD300E laptop and I need to install Win Xp Pro
The laptop came with Win XP home but I need to use a few programs (Microsoft Virtual PC) that require Win XP Pro
Does anyone know of any known issues of using XP Pro on this laptop? I am going to take a guess that there are no issues since it is only 3 months old but I wanted to check.
It would be great if anyone has any views as I intend to upgrade tomorrow
    Thanks in advance

    Hi
If you want to install WinXP Pro you have to install firstly the OS and then all the Toshiba drivers and utilities in the right order.
The Win XP Home and Pro uses the same drivers. The difference between Pro and Home is not very big. The Pro has more administration and configuration functions which you can control yourself. The Home version was designed for common Windows users.
Anyway, what you have to do is to install the drivers after the Os installation and you should follow the installation guide line which you can find on the Toshiba driver page.
    Good luck

  • Can not find WXP drivers for Satellite P100-120

    Hi to all,
I've just formatted my notebook and i don't find the Satellite P100-120 (PSPADE) Xp Drivers..
At the url http://it.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp in P100 Series there are only PSPA0E,PSPA3E and PSPA6E... there isn't my notebook serial PSPADE!
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks to all.

    Hi
This P100 notebook was delivered with Vista. Am I right?
It seems that the XP drivers for notebook which were delivered with Vista are not available at this time.
Therefore I would recommend choosing and installing the XP drivers from another P100 series.
Usually many notebooks are delivered with the same hardware specifications and you can hope that other drivers will run on you notebook.
    check it simply...

  • Need WXP drivers for Satellite P100 -429

    Hi,
I had to reinstall windows XP on my gf Satellite P100-429, but she lost the origina disk, so when i installed the new XP there are the following devices missing drivers (they have yellow question mark beside them) and I cant connect the laptop to the internet.
    1. Audio Device On High Definition Audio Bus
    2. Ethernet Controller
    3. Mass Storage controller
    4. Netwrok controller
    5. SM Bus Controller
    6 Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
Can anyone tell me where I can find these drivers, i have been looking all day for them.
I imagine if I can find them its just a case of putting them on a disk or usb key and installing them ?
    Thanks a million.

You must see this problem from other side. Fact is that all drivers, tools and utilities must be installed in right installation order. How to do this is listed in Installation Instruction document and this can be downloaded on this download page for your notebook model.
Obviously you didnt follow this order and some drivers are missing now.
    1. Audio Device On High Definition Audio Bus try with sound driver and install also modem driver
    2. Ethernet Controller install LAN driver
    3. Mass Storage controller is chipset utility installed?
    4. Netwrok controller is WLAN driver installed?
    5. SM Bus Controller try with flash media driver
6 Video Controller (VGA Compatible) display driver
Install this and post result but, as I wrote before best way to install all stuff properly is to follow install instructions document.

  • Satellite P100-286 - Vertical lines on the screen and constant reboots

I got this P100-286 with Nvidia Geforce Go 7900 GS and recently the laptop started freezing with vertical lines on the screen tried different options even tried recovery cd to re-install and after installation it started doing the same. I have read similar problems in the forum and is this a common problem with Toshiba? I have spend 1500 on this and it is only 3 years old. My friends have laptops older than this almost 6 years and in good working condition.
Is there any solution or suggestion for this problem? The heat on the base of the laptop is really hot and it is like this for ages.
Any help is really appreciated after spending this much would like to last longer or it is a realibility issue with Toshiba brand.

It is happening in BIOS and even tried ubuntu on a boot cd and still having the same problem. I took to a PC servicing center they immediatly said it is a graphics card problem. The lines are comming in an external display as well. If you search in this forum you will see similar issues is reported by another user. I do think it is a genuine problem. The graphics chip is on board and it cost a lot to replace it that is what I been told.

  • Satellite P100-203 need very long to start up

I bought my Satellite P100-203 computer in october 2006, since day 1 it takes a long time that the computer is ready with starting up. WXP MCE is installed. I think that a computer with Intell T2500 dual core 2.0 GHZ/1024MB should be ready in a minute...
Anyone an idea what the problem can be?

    Hello fred,
Believe me, the notebook with dual core 2.0 GHz CPU will not boot faster as a notebook with a Pentium4 2.0 GHz.
The question is. What and how many applications will load at the start up?
Many applications make the boot procedure slow and longer. I think you use the Anti virus software. If you will disable the starting of such applications at the beginning the notebook should boot up much faster

  • Need older BIOS for Satellite P100-120

    Hi guys,
I just upgraded the BIOS of my Satellite P100-120 ( *PSPADE* ) from vers.3.30 to vers. 4.30.
After that, the GPU fan stopped working (it does in startup only).
As I (too late!) found out thanks to this forum, this problem is not yet resolved:
I reinstalled the latest Nvidia driver as suggested, without result.
So I would like to *downgrade BIOS to a vers between 3.30 and 4.00* (both my fans should be working with these releases).
Unfortunately, I overwrote the bios.bak file created by Winphlash... so here I am!
Would be there anyone who could kindly let me have a copy of the older BIOS I need (1MB file)?
Or do you think Toshiba Assistance (warranty is not expired) should be of any help to me?
    Thank you in advance.

    Ciao Steffano,
Yesterday I had the same problem as you and many other with this new BIOS, but today it's fixed :) The steps I did to make my laptop become a laptop not a portable heater:
    - update the BIOS to 4.30
    - go in Windows and uninstall the nVidia driver
    - reboot
    - go in Toshiba site and download their nVidia driver
    - install it
    - reboot
from here GPU fan become alive in Windows and also unexpectedly in Linux
hope this will help also to you

  • CD/DVD drive Acoustic Silencer does not work on Satellite P100-194

    Satellite P100-194 (Win XP MCE, Bios-Version 2.20)
Since there is excessive vibrating of the DVD-Multi-Drive with some of my DVDs and CDs, I would like to use the Acoustic Silencer, but theres no difference between Silent Mode and Normal Mode.
I have already tried to reinstall the Acoustic Silencer Tool, without success. Since this problem is starting to get really annoying, any help would be appreciated.
I wonder if the built-in DVD-multi-drive is that sensitive by default (sometimes the entire notebook starts vibrating combined with a very high noise level when reading a dvd) ?
    Thanks in advance !

    Hi WB,
I believe the Acoustic Silencer simply limits the rate at which information can be obtained from the CD/DVD with the intention of preventing the very high speed rotation that can sometimes occur when ripping CDS or DVDs to the hard drive. If you are simply watching DVDs (or listening to CDs for that matter) then the drive speed will not be particularly high since once the read buffer is full then there is no need to read any more data from the disc itself. If you watch the drive LED you will see that it only lights intermittently.
The drive speed will decrease during playback as the laser reads the information from the outside portion of the disc surface.
The presence of noise and vibration normally indicates that the disc is 'eccentric' or is not clamped centrally in the drive, and this can indicate a possible problem with the clamping mechanism itself. However, it is always worth checking that the centre hole in the disc itself has no burrs or pieces of materila that would throw it off-centre, and it is also worth checking if the disc label (assuming it is a stick-on paper type) is properly attached and has no buckles or air bubbles in it since this can also cause noise.
I have experience of a couple of CD-ROM game discs which cause a lot of noise and vibration in my notebook and on checkin I found that the centre hole was very slightly offset.
    regards,

  • Satellite P100-221: FN keys combinations don't work properly

    Hello,
I have satellite p100-221 with preinstalled Win XP MCE. After one week of using my computer a problem with blue function keys appeared. fn-f1, fn-f2 and all the other fn keys combinations do not work properly. They seem to work, I can change the brightness, switch the touchpad on and off and so on, but no info icon on the screen appears. On the beginning while pressing the function keys combination the icons on the screen appeared. How can i solve this problem? Is it software or hardware related?
    Thanks for all help.

    Hi
I dont believe that this issue is related to hardware.
I would recommend updating the Hotkey utility.
On the Toshiba driver page I have found two different versions:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=EU
Your unit is Satellite P100-221 so I assume the further number should be PSPA6E.
Be sure that you use the right drivers for this unit.

  • Re: Satellite P100-160 - Display driver installation failed

Satellite P100-160, PSPAAE, vista 32 bit,
Today Aero wasn't working and not available in graphics properties. Installed latest display driver from Toshiba UK site, Intel 15.0.1.1114. This version was actually older than my current driver but I thought that maybe as it was the only one availabel that it must be correct.
The driver install failed with an error (no details just 'an error has occurred'). Now I have no aero and my display resolution cant be set above 1280x800 - should be 1440x900
To say I am pisseed would be an understatement. Can anyone help? thanks

    Hey,
If Aero is not available I dont think its display driver problem
Anyway, have you removed the old display driver before you installed the new one? Go to device manager > right click on graphic card > uninstall. After reboot the display driver should be uninstalled and you can start with display driver installation.
If you install drivers make sure you are logged in as Administrator and antivirus/firewall is disabled. Restart once again and you should be able to choose the native screen resolution now.
    Check this!!!

  • What Satellite P100 series includes P100-106?

I have toshiba satellite p100-106. On the back of the machine my model is PSPADE-018010G3.
When I want to check bios version or some other software or drivers it writes under p100-106 section: what's your model PSPA0E, PSPA3E, PSPA6E. But there is no PSPADE like mine is. I've checked it 5 times and it's not 0 it's letter d on my notebook.
    What to choose?
    Thanks

    Hi
I am not 100% sure but I presume it works on this way:
Your notebook is delivered and preinstalled with Vista operating system. Your OS is complete and new. I do not believe that you will find any update in this short time. BIOS is also the latest one. Other units (Satellite P100-PSPA0, Satellite P100-PSPA3 and Satellite P100-PSPA6) are WXP units and all of them are Vista supported. Because of that there is priority to give support for those units because of Vista installation.
When new update will be available for your unit you will find it under http://pc-support.toshiba-europe.com/vista/ but at the moment there are no updates available.
What to choose? Nothing! Be happy with your new toy.

  • Video stuttering on Satellite P100

    Hi..
I have got a Satellite P100-347 ( PSPA6E), with WXP media centre as the operation system. Every time I want to watch a DVD using media player, real player, media centre or WinDVD the video is stuttering and the video and audio are not running smoothly.
If I want to use the quick media (from shut down , pressing the media quick button, it wont start windows, it will only start the media section) then the screen will freeze few seconds after starting the DVD. I will have to hold the power button until the laptop turns off.
    Any suggestions please.

    Hi guys,
did you already tried to install a codecpack like the K-lite codecpack which is free and contains all needed codecs for watching movies no matter which format (Divx, Xvid, DVD, etc..)
If not, try it (http://k-lite-codec-pack.softonic.de/) and by the way: update your display drivers if not already did. It helps sometimes...really. :)

  • Satellite P100 - time clock keeps changing

The clock on my Satellite P100 keeps changing (running Win XP MCE) randomly during the day while it is powered on.
When I start up PC in morning, clock is similar time to when I switched it off the day before.
I use my PC in my office connected to mains power. For the first few months of ownership I left main battery out of computer because I wanted to preserve it's life. I don't want to run on battery power and go through a charge-discharge process all day long while I am working. I wondered if this might be the problem and now keep the main battery plugged in all the time but the clock still keeps changing.
The clock does not change by precise hours, but to an almost random time sometime before the correct time. Sometimes a few minutes, sometimes a couple of hours.
I have installed and run all the latest anti-virus, spyware etc. etc. and nothing is detected.
Does it look like my CMOS/RTC battery faulty?
This is my work computer and I cannot afford to be without it for more than a day. I also do not want to return it with all my company data on the hard disk.
Anyone know how easy it is to replace the RTC battery yourself (I know it will invalidate the warranty) - I am an experienced PC "builder" and can happily take computers apart etc.
I hope someone can offer some advice. Why don't Toshiba have a support line you can call for help??

Unfortunately I have not fixed the problem yet.
As explained in my original post I am reluctant to take the computer back for repair as a) I cannot be without it and b) it has company sensitive data on it.
However, if it will not invalidate the warranty to put a different hard disk in it, I may do that and then use the recovery CD to put it back to how it was when purchased. Then make sure the problem still exists (to eliminiate software issues 100%) and then maybe take it back to the shop - this solves reason b) above, but not reason a) - Maybe I should just take a holiday!!
Once it's fixed I just put my original hard disk back in.
