Unexpectedly quit message on mail, safari, dashboard, etc

Yesterday morning I worked on Mail, Safari and Quicken for Mac and all was working well - I was even able to backup my Quicken on Mobile Me. This morning I tried to get on my Mail, Safari, even Software Update (anything that has to connect to the web) and I get the "unexpectedly quit" message. I downloaded the latest updates a few days ago: Airport Extreme update 2008-004 vs 1.0; Digital Camera Raw Compatibility update vs 2.3; iPhoto update vs. 7.1.5; and Migration and DVD/CD sharing update vs. 1.2. I downloaded the OS 10.5.5 a while ago and haven't had any problems.
I'm assuming there was a problem with the updates?
Please help!! This is why I left the Microsoft world!!

  • Consistent "This Application has Unexpectedly Quit Messages"

I have a 15" Powerbook G4 800MHz with 1gb of RAM (I upgraded from 512 to 1gb a couple of years ago). Recently it has been quitting out of applications consistently. It started when I opened iTunes and was in the store trying to buy an album, everytime I got to the buy now screen it quits with the "Unexpectedly Quit" message. I thought it might be the actual iTunes program so I trashed the existing one and went to apple.com to download the new one. Again, when I got to the DOWNLOAD NOW button, it "Unexpectedly Quit" yet again. On all of these I have shutdown and restarted multiple times, shut down for the night and restarted the next evening, Repaired Disk Permissions, etc. What could be causing it to repeatedly quit? It basically renders the machine useless. I am quite a novice on the "fix it" side so assuming I don't know something is probably safe. I have been out here on this discussion forum looking for the topic that really covered my issue and I haven't found one. So I am posting this.
    thanks in advance!!

An update on my previous post. I tried to reinstall itunes from the cd that came with it. It installed successfully and then when I went to find it in APPS and add it to my dock the system crashed

  • PSE 11 unexpectedly quit message

Recently PSE 11 running on a iMac under OSX 10.7.5 keeps giving me the message that PSE has unexpectedly quit even though I have quit the aplication as I normally do under the menu.  Everything works perfectly while using the   application but I get the " unexpectedly quit message" even though I quit in a normal fashion.  What can I do to eliminate this annoying message?

  • Can't open Safari, iTunes - 'PubSubAgent unexpectedly quit' message

    Hi All,
For seemingly no reason at all today Safari decided to not open anymore, 'Unexpectedly quitting' every time I tried to open.. then after a little while a message 'PubSubAgent unexpectedly quit' comes up as Im trying to open Safari. Also itunes wont open, quitting every time and also I when I try to update software, that unexpectedly quits too! Its as though everything that's trying to access the internet is quitting.
Ive been reading on the forums about the PubSubAgent and have tried a few things but none have worked. I opened a new user account on my computer and everything seems to work ok on here - I did a software update and security update today via the new account. But I'd like to be able to use my own account on my computer if at all possible!
    Thanks for your help,
    Nicole

  • Safari quits an the 3rd bounce in the dock, then spews an "unexpected" quit message.  Prefs trashed.  How to resolve

I recently re-installed the OS from a cleas wipe of the drive, change of formatting to Case-sensitive & Journaled.  After using the Mirgration assistant program, it fails to launch for a certain user.  It works fine for other users.   .plist files have been trashed for that user, how can I make this work again?  The thought of trashing the app & reinstalling occured, but I am not sure how to get it back, and using alternative browsers for just that user is a bit silly.

Read this whole message before doing anything.
Back up all data if you haven’t already done so. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to the state it’s in now.
Quit Safari if it’s running. Then select  ▹ Force Quit... from the menu bar. A small window will open with a list of running applications. Safari may appear in that list, even though you quit it. If so, select it and press return. Close the window.
    Step 1
In the Finder, press the key combination shift-command-A to open the Applications folder. Select the Safari icon in that folder and press the key combination command-I to open the Info window. There’s a checkbox in the Info window labeled Open in 32-bit mode. Uncheck it, if checked. Close the Info window and the Applications folder.
Hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar. Delete the following items from the Library folder (some may not exist):
    Caches/com.apple.Safari
    Caches/com.apple.WebKit.PluginProcess
    Caches/Metadata/Safari
    Preferences/com.apple.WebKit.PluginHost.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.WebKit.PluginProcess.plist
    Saved Application State/com.apple.Safari.savedState
Leave the Library folder open. Try Safari again. If it works now, stop here. Close the Library folder.
    Step 2
If you still have problems, quit Safari again.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    rm -fr $TMPDIR../C/com.apple.Safari
Quit Terminal. Launch Safari and test.
    Step 3
If Safari still doesn’t work right, quit, go back to the Finder and move the following items from the open Library folder to the Desktop (some may not exist):
    Cookies/Cookies.binarycookies
    Preferences/com.apple.Safari.LSSharedFileList.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.Safari.RSS.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.WebFoundation.plist
    PubSub/Database
    Safari
(Note: you are not moving the Safari application. You’re moving a folder named “Safari.”)
Try again. This time Safari should perform normally, but your settings and bookmarks will be lost.
If the issue is still not resolved, quit Safari again and put all the items you moved to the Desktop back where they were, overwriting the newer ones that will have been created in their place. You don’t need to replace the files you deleted in step 1. Stop here and post again.
If Safari is now working normally (apart from the lost settings), look inside the “Safari” folder on the Desktop for a file named “Bookmarks.plist”. Select File ▹ Import Bookmarks from the Safari menu bar. Import from that file. Recreate the rest of your Safari settings. You can then delete the items you moved to the Desktop.
Note: This step will remove your Safari Extensions, if any, and their settings. If you choose to restore them, do so one at a time, testing after each step to make sure you haven’t restored the problem.
If you don’t like the results of step 3, you can undo it completely by quitting Safari and restoring the items you moved or deleted in that step from your backup, overwriting any that were created in their place.

  • Illustrator crashes while loading (Illustrator has unexpectedly quit message)mac

    Mac OSX 10.4.1 Tiger/Power Book G4 12"/Adobe Illustrator CS3 13.0.0
If anyone has had this problem, I have found a fix that worked. Illustrator has unexpectedly quit, crash during initialization of the program during loading.
In my case it was a font that I downloaded called ZEBRA that caused Illustrator to crash during this loading period. I had no Idea that corrupt fonts could effect the application in this way. I went through all of the steps that I could think of to fix this problem including, re-setting the preferences folder within CS3, running disk utility to reset user permissions, re-installing Illustrator and safe mode startup. I even created another user account to test and see if it was a user settings corruption. What I found was that Illustrator would open and function properly when using the newly created user account from startup. After this I ran the mac in safe mode from start up of my original user account. In doing this I was able to start Illustrator again without the crash occurring.
At this point I went to my font book application and tried to find a corrupt font. At first I hi-lighted all of the fonts and went to File-Validate fonts. This process gave me some fonts with errors which I then deleted from my font book. Again, I tried to open Illustrator and still the same error (Unexpectedly Quit). I then went to font book, hi-lighted all fonts and disabled all fonts. After this I tried to open Illustrator. Amazingly Illustrator loaded with no problem. Ok now I know the problem lies in a corrupt font. Evidently you can have a corrupt font and it not show up while validating fonts. In the end I had to go through all the user fonts and de-activated them, then try to open Illustrator to see which font was corrupt and delete it. It was a little easier to select a group to deactivate and then narrow it down to just one font.
In my case the corrupt font was ZEBRA that I had to delete. I downloaded this font online for free. So if you have this problem after downloading a font online, this is more than likely the problem. After this everything was back to normal
Sorry for such a long explanation. I hope this saves someone the time and headache I had to go through to fix mine.
    Thanks Mike.

Well I don't have that Zebra font, and I've just installed this for the first time. I have been troubleshooting this for many hours between yesterday and today, and I've tried every suggestion I've found in this forum and a couple of things not mentioned. I have no preferences to delete since it's never successfully opened, and I put in a help ticket with Adobe yesterday, but I'm frustrated because nothing like this has ever happened to me before in 24 years of doing computer graphics. So if anyone has any further suggestions not covered thus far, I'm open to them!
This is what I've tried so far:
Installation went fine. I registered and activated the software. First attempt (and every attempt) the software crashes at start up. I tried installing the updates, verifying my fonts, deactivating downloaded fonts, restarting the computer, and tried to open it in my alternate user account. I tried using the disc to uninstall and reinstall (3 times after the first). I tried opening the software in safe mode. I tried installing it in the alternate user account.
I am running Mac OS 10.4.11 Tiger on a G5 PPC with 92 GB free HD memory, 2.5 GB RAM, 2.1 GHZ processor. PS CS3 runs fine and is unaffected by any of this.
    Gloria

  • Why do I keep getting "Unexpected Quit" messages when I close certain programs?

Just a problem I have with Steam and a few different programs. Everytime I close the program, I get an unexpected quit error. Anything I can do to fix this?

    What other programs?

  • Unexpectedly QUIT message

OK....so, I went to the upgrade, punched in the serial numbers and upgraded to the "free" FCP 4.5. Now I have new troubles.
SO...first all all, making a new tape did not work for fixing the timecode error. Then, when trying to capture from the FIREWIRE control of my JVC deck, it said that the deck must be set to VTR (there are no deck settings available) to capture....
SO...I went ahead and choose the "non-controllable" device tab, and was able to capture a few clips manually...which I think is no big deal...and actually cuts out a step as far as I need.
THEN....FCP 4.5 "unexpectedly quit". I reopened...and none of the captures were there, not even on my external project drive (which flashes as it writes), which caught me off-guard. SO...this time, I saved after capturing EACH clip, then it shut down again. (but clips were saved this time).
Did I set something up wrong? I went to find updates and did not see anything that pertained to this??
Do I have to configure something else here?
    Thanks
    MW

Here are the basics...I'm using a basic 250Gb external for my main stuff, just the operating software and autosave vault on the main mac drive.
Since posting ... I'm still getting "quits" during capture
Thanks for taking the time to look at it. Everyone...anyone.

Has anyone else had the same or similar issues? I also experienced problems with Safari, loading certain web pages. Please help!!

    Hi there navicin79,
You may find the troubleshooting steps in the articles below helpful. The first thing I would try is reinstalling iTunes as outlined in the first article.

  • Removing "Unexpectedly Quit" message

Hello. I'm running some automated tasks with Safari and every once in a while Safari quits unexpectedly. I don't mind one bit, but I'd like to be able to run a shell command to remove that message error window. . . I can't figure out what the process name for that window is, though, in order to force quit / close it. Can anyone help? I'm basically looking to have an applescript auto detect if that error message came up and close the window.

Hi Penelopos, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I can't help with your desires, but may be able to help fix the Problem in the first place so it doesn't quit at all!

  • "Cannot verify server identity" iPhone 4S on home wifi. I get this message on mail, safari, iCloud...

For the past few days every time my iPhone needs to load something, it will take a ridiculously long time to load if it loads at all. This includes loading email, iCloud settings, iTunes, safari pages, even apps that need an Internet connection. Starting this morning I get these errors. I get this error when I check my mail, try to surf on Safari, check my iCloud settings or open my Facebook app. When I open iTunes I get this message: "The certificate for this server is invalid. You might be connecting to a server that is pretending to be 'itunes.apple.com' which could put your confidential information at risk."
I have tried shutting down my phone and turning it back on. I have also tried resetting all network settings.
I have switched to 3G and get the same above message from iTunes.
The 'cannot verify...' message has disappeared though. Multiple pages in Safari load just fine. I open Mail and get this message: 'cannot load mail, connection to the server failed.' My Facebook app will load and load and will finally fail to update content. iCloud will not connect and show another 'verification failed' message.
My iPhone wouldn't even let me use this site to submit the question. So I am using my iPad 2 running iOS 6.1.3 and everything is just fine. Everything that is not working on my phone is working on the iPad just fine.
(an additional note: I have a reminder with geo-fence set a mile away from my current location and it will periodically go off even though my location hasn't moved in hours... Do not know if this is related or not but it started happening at the same time)

I am having the same problem: I am getting several times a day on my iPad (3rd generation) and my iPhone 4S the messages:
    Cannot Verify Server Identity
The identity of "webdav.facebook.com" cannot be verified by Facebook.
Review the certificate details to continue.
    Every time, I choose cancel.
I don't know, what triggers this message (I am not actively using Facebook or any app that would try to access Facebook at the time when this failure messages happen.
I am using the newest iOS version (8.1.3).
    I am living in China.
I don't get the error messages when I am connected via a VPN.
So far that I remember - the problems started somewhere at the beginning of 2015.
The 'Not Trusted' Certificates are usually never the same. I did had - among others -:
    *.littletonpublicschools.net.
    lds140.securednshost.com
    auvisa.com
    langel.jp
    www.colesfinancialservices.com.au
    *wpengine.com and even
    localhost
What can be done? It's really annoying.

  • Unexpected quit message when quitting normally

This is a minor annoyance but, I was wondering why it happens and, if anybody else is getting the message that Photoshop has quit unexpectedly when
    quitting Photoshop normally?

I have the same thing happen rather frequently and do not see any particular pattern as to why.  CS4 does this on both an IMac G5 with Tiger and a MacMini 4Gig Intel 2.25 ghz with 10.5.8.  This is not a crash as you state, but rather following a normal closing of CS4. I only sent one report as this happens obviously when I am finishing a project up and need to leave the studio in a hurry.  Interestingly, this has not happened for several week now, and again, I have no clue as to anything specific that triggers it.

  • Unexpected quit message wont stop showing up

Hi, so I just booted up my MBP, and I got this message that said that an application called srserviceagent, which is not in my applications, quit unexpectedly. I hit ignore, and the message just popped up again five seconds later. I did this multiple times, before just deciding to click relaunch. Well, all this does is immediately bring the message back up. So I hit report, in which it said that the report couldnt be sent. I have force quit, restarted and shut down already. Please help!

  • Where would i find mail, safari bookmarks, etc?

im reinstalling maverick on another HD. where would i find my mail folder to drag and drop and also safari bookmarks? so i want have to start over compelety? thanks

One way to deal with the Safari Bookmarks is to open Safari and use the "Export Bookmarks..." item on the File menu. You can specify where to save them.
Mail is in Users > username > Library > Mail
Library is normally hidden in Finder. Use the Finder Go menu and hold down the Option key to see and click on Library. I've never tried copying the Mail folder and moving it to another machine, so there may be more to it than just the above folder.

  • IDVD Consistently Quits (no unexpected quit message)

My mom had a friend of her turn her VHS workout tape into a DVD. The problem is there are no chapter markers and there are a few workouts to choose from on the tape and the only way she can get to them currently is by fast forwarding. It's kind of a pain, so I told her I could make the DVD into a nicer version with a menu and chapter markers.
I took her dvd and copied the video_ts folder to my desktop. I tried converting that to .dv with Visual Hub but i kept getting audio and video out of sync with each other. The developer of Visual Hub suggested i convert to mp4 instead. I didn't really want to because i knew how much more time consuming that is, and I didn't really want to compress the VHS video since it wasn't great quality to begin with. I did so anyway since I had no choice, and the mp4 came out great. I imported that mp4 (H.264 encoding) into iMovie HD (which took about 600 minutes (forever!) on my 2.33 GHz iMac).
Finally, I had the video with audio and video sync in iMovie ready for editing. I added the chapter markers, and shared the project with iDVD. I added the appropriate menu, put in a blank DVD (Verbatim DVD+R DL) and hit Burn.
iDVD won't burn it though. It gets through all of the work and then hangs right before it's about to get to the burning step. After it hangs for a bit, it takes it upon itself to silently quit (no window pops up letting me know iDVD has crashed, it simply vanishes from my view and isn't anywhere to be found when i open Activity Monitor) with very little outputted to Console.app.
It's the same result if i choose to burn to a disc or choose to save the project as a disc image.
    Here is the output:
/Users/Mike/Documents/exercise tape.dvdproj/Contents/Resources/MPEG/V69B25C179844F308247B569CA96E75706D6F7669_6000000_N_S48.015E48.015: No such file or directory

I have a ton of free space (around 150 GB) and only one partition on my iMac. Everything is being done from the iMac's internal hard drive.
    Can anyone offer some tips?

    Mike,
I imported that mp4 (H.264 encoding) into iMovie HD (which took about 600 minutes (forever!) on my 2.33 GHz iMac).
The importing probably converted to mpg4 to an intermediate CODEC very much like DV (at least that's the way it used to work).
Finally, I had the video with audio and video sync in iMovie ready for editing. I added the chapter markers, and shared the project with iDVD.
Did you try 'sharing' out of iMovie to actually create a self-contained full quality DV movie (keeping in mind it will be about 13 GB per hour of playing time) instead of just sharing to iDVD (which simply sends the reference movie to iDVD). It will probably take quite a while, but try using IT in iDVD - this should show if there are problems with the reference movie iMovie sends to iDVD.
