Unexplainable bad alignment of fonts in a certain zoom

I have this weird Issue with Indesign AND Illustrator where i have a couple of fine fonts which are nicely aligned,
but when i zoom out, they seem like they aren't aligned at all, this anomaly occurs only at a 75% view, but is truly annoying...
to show you what i mean;
Font:Gnuoalane
view"75%
see how terrible mis aligned it seems? (damn, it seems like it isnt possible to capture)
zoomed in till 100%, no problem at all:
I will make it clearer with a close up of one word
75%
see how bad this is?
at 100%
it's driving me crazy, because i most work in the 75% view, since it works the best for my designs, but a bad font destabilizes the enitire spread
normal:

From the description of the font it's intended to be a headline font - not body type.
It may be something to do with how the font was built.
Did you get the free version or did you buy the font?
The font is free to use with Donations via Da Font - but you can buy the font on MyFonts.com.
It's my experience that free fonts don't have all the instructions for embedding, or viewing etc. in them. It's almost always better to buy the fonts.
There are few things in the InDeisgn Preferences
Interface>Live Screen Drawing change to Delayed or Immediately - see if that makes a difference.
Type>Automatically use Correct Optical size

    As result I get a bad resolution of the word document and the original fonts are not supported, I tried all common fonts. The font used by CR seems to be default font with a very bad resolution.
    The same effects not only with MS word, although with an linked PDF or any image. All have a very bad resolution.

    We have the same problem. A page footer generated in Word, embedded in a CR-Report shows in the report viewer with overlapping characters. This is "a known limitation" we were told. Not really a problem, but when exported to PDF, the PDF also shows the overlapping characters and prints with overlapping characters as well. This is our problem!We've tried different fonts, different font- an pagesizes in Word, the "can grow" checkbox etc. We believe, the result is affected by the printer driver but cannot really find a way, to avoid the problem and get a clear print at all of our customers.Anyone figured out how to solve the problem? CA Support unfortunatly couldn't help   We are using CR Merge Moduls XI R2 in our Report Viewer, Word 2003, Problem appears on local machines as well as on Citrix.

  • Font rendering in certain GTK+ 3 applications

    In some GTK+ 3 applications, fonts appear to have a slightly reddish fuzz and seem a bit unclear; this does not differ by font, so I'm assuming it's a font rendering issue. Is there any known solution to this? I searched around a bit and couldn't find anything.

    Pse wrote:Hmm, looks like the wrong LCD filter is getting picked. What desktop environment are you on? I take it it is not Gnome, is it?
    It's just the default one; I'm using GNOME 3.10.
    genghizkhan91 wrote:Are you using the infinality packages?
    No; just plain fontconfig/freetype2.
    Regular font rendering settings are being used (fully antialiased, slight hinting, rgba, default lcd filter, etc.)
    Edit: Also, note that this issue had been present in several other applications but disappeared recently after certain upgrades; for instance, fonts were similarly fuzzy in the "About" section of most GTK+ 3 applications and the "Notifications" section of GNOME Control Center.

  • Different font weight for certain table rows in a tableView

    Dear all,
    I Need to add a summary row in a TableView to calculate the sum of all values above this row. For every row I have an object, called KostenDTO.
    class SummCurrencyTableCellFactory implements Callback, TableCell> {
         private NumberFormat numFormat = null;
         public SummCurrencyTableCellFactory(NumberFormat numFormat) {
              this.numFormat = numFormat;
         @Override public TableCell call(TableColumn param) {
              TableCell cell = new TableCell() {
                   @Override public void updateItem(final Float item, boolean empty) {
                   if (item != null) {
                        setText(numFormat.format(item));
                        setStyle("  -fx-alignment: CENTER-RIGHT;");
                        if (item < 0.0) {
                             this.setTextFill(Color.RED);
                        } else {
                             this.setTextFill(Color.BLACK);
                  } else {
                        setText("");
         return cell;
    how can I Change the font weight of the sum-row to bold?
    Thank you and regards Tim

    You can do
      String fontWeight ;
      if (getIndex() == getTableColumn().getTableView().getItems().size()-1) {
      fontWeight = "-fx-font-weight: bold;";
      } else {
      fontWeight = "-fx-font-weight: normal;";
      setStyle("-fx-alignment: CENTER-RIGHT;\n" + fontWeight);
    in the updateItem(...) method, assuming the sum row is the last row in the table.

  • Fonts jumbled on certain web pages

    On certain sites, the font overlaps certain elements of the page.

    This happens in both chrome and firefox.
    Could this be a bug with the acceleration method used by xf86-video-intel? I recall Pacman saying that I could change the acceleration method from 'sna' back to 'uxa', but didn't see any reason to do that.

    No, it's not a bug. I think you are just missing some "exotic" fonts. I believe the second example is from WolframAlpha, my browser has the same problem there. I don't want to say that, but you could solve this problem by installing some MS fonts.

  • Is there a shortcut to center-align all items of a certain type only?

    I know the title of this thread is poorly worded; I apologize. Let me try to explain.
    I design transit schedules, which I create in InDesign using tables. These schedules list arrival times for bus stops, but when the bus does not stop at a particular stop, this is indicated by an em dash.
    Example:
    The times are left-aligned within the columns (they are aligned on the colon). However, the em dashes are center-aligned. Currently, the entire table is left-aligned by default, and I manually highlight and center-align the em dashes. When there are just a few em dashes or when the em dashes are all adjacent to each other, it's no big deal.
    But I often have to work with schedules in which the em dashes are in every other row (like the top half in the example above) or scattered throughout the table, and in those cases, my very manual method is a real pain in the neck—I have to highlight and center each em dash individually.
    What I would LOVE to find is a feature similar to the Find and Replace feature, in which I could essentially ask InDesign to Find all em dashes within the document and center align them only. I've searched for such a feature to no avail. Am I overlooking something, or is this just not possible in InDesign? And if it's not possible, can you think of a better and more efficient way of center-aligning the em dashes than my current method?
    FYI, I'm still using InDesign CS3, though I hope to upgrade soon. If I learn that a Find and Align type of feature is available in CS5, well—that's just more motivation for me to upgrade ASAP!
    Thanks for your help and input.

    It can be solved through find and change itself. I think the below image will clarify your requirement.

  • How to change font size for certain domains in Safari

    I want to increase the font size for a few websites that have font's sizes I can't read. I already use a CSS file that changes my link colors so I can modify that files if that helps.
    Here's a website I need to change http://www.boxofficeguru.com/weekend.htm. Whenever I go to this page I have to increase the font size and when I go to a different site I have to make the font size smaller. Any ideas?

    If there are really only a few sites that you have problems with, just go to the site, and click the Command key along with the plus key.    This will temporarily increase the size of the type.
    Command and the minus(-)  key makes type smaller.  These commands will work on a per site basis.

  • Bad surprises with fonts

    Hallo NG,
    I have an application of several front panels. Trying to give all these
    panels a uniform "Look and feel" (There's nothing more unprofessional than a
    application where fonts change from window to window) I declared some
    default fonts especially a font Arial black 100 for Dialog font.
    I thought that it would affect only the vi panels that I design and not all
    of the Labview dialogs. Now my dialog windows are scrambled and I can hardly
    operate Labview because the buttons and windows look like after an
    earthquake.
    1) How can I reset this this without using Labview (maybe Labview.ini)
    2) Is it because Dialog fonts applies to the Labview dialogs itself and not
    to the self designed panels. How can I seperate?
    3) Can I setup more default font
    s (e.g. one for button text, one for control
    caption text,...)
    Thank you
    Oliver Friedrich

    Oliver,
    1. Find the FPFont ini file setting. Change it to
    FPFont="0" 13
    This will reset things to the normal default.
    2. You cannot separate these options at this time.
    3. No, you cannot set up more default fonts, but you could do this programatically. You could write a VI Server VI that gets all of the front panel controls. It then changes the fonts on all of the controls to what you specify. See this Developer Exchange posting answer for a demo of this.

  • Strange Font Change in Certain Windows

    The font in advisory windows, such as the iTunes Agreement, or error notifications has suddenly changed from Arial ( or whatever the default font is ) to Curlz. I have disabled Curlz in Fontbook but it remains in all notifications including the items directory of Dreamweaver CS5.
    I don't know what caused the font change and I don't have clue as to how to resolve it.

    Hi Doug --
    If you are positive it's the Curlz font,
    don't just disable it. Locate it via "Find" or Spotlight.
    Put it in the trash.
    Restart your Mac and test again.

  • Why is bad alignment happening when I go to my website?

    Hello,
    Go to   http://www.peterdanko.com/peterdanko.com/greenbelt2.html
    Please note on the bottom of the <div#right_text_column....there should be three text links: Pricing, belt colors, and finishing...and they should all be in a row....not a column like shown in the link above.  BTW..for what its worth, it looks ok in design view.  Could this also be why there is a green underline in line 6 of re: header_footer.css rules?  I've checked all my divs and as far as I can tell they look OK.
    Thanks!

    <div>s are block level elements. They'll always occupy the full width of their containing element unless you style them otherwise.
    In this case, pricing, belt colors and finishing are three stacked <div>s each taking the full width of <div id="right_text_column">.
    You need to give them each a smaller width (say 30% each of the space), then float them next to each other
    e.g.
    #pricing, #finishes, #belt_samples {
         width: 30%;
         float: left;

  • Brand new MacBook Pro w/Retina Display, PSE11 looks like a mess, bad resolution, pixelated fonts and pictures, is there a fix for this?  This is a major, major issue for me as I use PSE all...the...time!  Thx.

    Just purchased a brand new MBP, and all programs look awesome on it except the one software program where crisp display is required - PSE11.  I really need to know my options, is this a fix in the near future?  Is PSE12 retina display friendly?  Any other options?  Thank you.

    I am not a Mac user, but your problem is the same with other HDPI high resolution displays.
    See that discussion on the feedback forum:
    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/please_add_retina_support_to_photosh op_elements_11
    Nobody can tell if future versions will solve the problem, but don't expect a fix for PSE12.

    I completely disagree about the 'crisp display' requirement.  Photo editing on computers has its own requirements which do take into account the practical resolution of the display, its size and viewing distance and the fact that you have to work alternatively on the whole image or the pixel level. Working comfortably without straining your eyesight means a lot of things including display size and viewing distance (good : 24 to 27" at 80 - 100 cm) with optimal resolution : 1920 x 1200; good colour fidelity and absence of reflections.
    If you compare side by side HDPi vs more standard displays, you won't see the difference in a normal editing session, only if you look closely for a long time at a still image.
    Standard displays are crisp enough, don't be fooled by the marketing trick of the higher figures. Even 1920 x 1200 resolution is more than enough for a 15" display. Spend the price difference on a good and comfortable. external display. Make use of the shortcuts to quickly zoom and pan in your images.

  • Font smoothing whilst using zoom??

    I am a visually impaired person, who has just converted to a Mac! I'm using the built in zoom feature, but am having trouble with blurred fonts whilst using zoom. I have tried adjusting screen contrast, colours, smoothing styles, but can't get a sharp image for fonts when they are magnified. Does anyone have any tips or soluions to help me with this?
    mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    The problem here is that the zoom facility simply magnifies the pixels on the screen.
    For documents such as web pages, try changing the size of the font used first; the Safari shortcut is cmd + (command and plus sign), and the reverse is cmd - (command and minus sign), being careful not to take it down smaller than the starting size when you reduce it again. A judicious combination of that with the screen zoom feature should enable you to deal with most web pages.
    For PDFs, use the zoom built in to Preview (again, the shortcuts are cmd + and cmd -) to get the document to a legible size, then use the screen zoom if necessary.
    For your own documents, pick your fonts carefully—you'll probably find Andale Mono, Geneva, Helvetica, Lucida Grande, Tahoma and Verdana to be the most legible. Then set the default font size to, say, 16 or 18 point to begin with, work on your document making fonts bigger or smaller as needed, zooming in and out as you wish. When you've finished it, select all (cmd A) then reduce the font size uniformly (normally cmd -), perhaps four steps, taking your 16-point down to 12, which will look fine when you print it or fax it. At this point, you no longer need to read the text, so can concentrate on the shape of the layout, moving line and paragraph breaks around as you wish to achieve an aesthetic appearance.
    Similarly, any text documents you are sent that can be opened in a word processor can have their fonts changed or enlarged. Work on a copy if you're worried about overwriting an original.
    Hope this helps,
    Archie

  • Saving a PDF at a certain zoom level

    I have an Illustrator file that I want to save at different zoom levels (100% & 200%). I have to save these out to PDF's but once I open them Acrobat opens them to a certain dimension. Is there a way to manipulate the zoom and save feature in the document of Illustrator without having my users do it in Acrobat?

    You can do it with a Batch processing in Acrobat. In Acrobat 9 it would be from Advanced>Document Processing>Batch Processing as follows

  • How do I use an extension to set a default font size and page zoom on web pages.

    every time I go to a site I have to zoom in 3 times. I saw an answer that said use an extension to fix the zoom so it would stay where I wanted it. It gave two extensions to use, but I don't know where or how to apply them.

    Here are two I've tried in the past:
    * Default FullZoom Level: [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/default-fullzoom-level/]
    * NoSquint: [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/nosquint/]
    After installing an extension and restarting Firefox, you can use the extension's Options dialog to adjust the starting zoom level. If the extension doesn't have its own menu entry or toolbar button, you can usually find that Options button here:
    orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
    Any luck?

  • When I open some images, blank white boxes appear on the image past a certain zoom point in random locations. This does not show up in the tools though (liquify, camera filter, ect). how do i stop this from happening?

    It happens mostly at random, but once it shows up on an image, even if i close and re open it it will still show up. if i zoom out far enough it will disappear, but as soon as i zoom back in again it will reappear. its never in the same spot on different images and never the same size. i was already on with tech support and they deleted my settings folder which seemed to fix it for a short time (like a week), does anyone know what is causing this or how to fix it?
    *this is not my art, just an example of it happening

    it may have worked, but gimping my system isn't exactly a solution, more of a band-aid.
    its the equivalent of the old
    patient says, " its hurts when i do *this* "
    doctor replies," well, don't do that "
    What do you mean "it may have worked" – did it or did it not?
    Anyway it is not a remedy but diagnostics and if it makes a difference it points at the GPU driver as a likely culprit.
