Unexplained icon

In iPhoto 11, I'm viewing an album from my MobileMe gallery. Each thumbnail has a small icon in the lower left corner, that looks like a radiating fan. What does this mean?

Problem is, there is another album WITHOUT the icons on the thumbnails. That album has photos from my iPhoto Library. Perhaps that's the distinction.
After further study of iPhoto, the icon looks suspiciously like an RSS symbol. Why it's used to distinguish albums NOT contained in one's iPhoto Library, I have no idea (assuming that's what it stands for).
There's also a statement in iPhoto Help: Share photos digitally>On the web>MobileMe>To add or delete photos: "Photos emailed or added by others appear in your published album the next time you open iPhoto, or the album, and your computer is connected to the Internet. These photos have a symbol on them to show they are not part of your library."
Anyway, that's the best I've come up with so far.

Mystery icons & Add an icon map

Hello all.
I've run into a somewhat stupid, but nether the less frustrating, issue...
On Android, there are mystery icons all over my messages which are explained no-where.
E.g. I have trawled this forum and google to find out what the orange circle with a white exclamation mark in it means, and have found nothing.
This is not the only example however, there are numerous icons / symbols used by the app that simply have 0 explanation on this site, in the app's help, or when you long press them.
I'm 25, I've owned every phone from the 3310 through to prototype android devices, I work in the tech sector... I'd like to think I'm rasonably tech savy. Yet here I am looking at unexplained icons and I cannot find out what they mean!
First up, can someone let me know what the heck this orange circle and exclamation mark means, as it's stopping all my outgoing Skype to SMS messages (yes I have credit and signal and have updated my OS & reinstalled Skype).
Secondly, Skype make an icon map!!! It's both bad practise and just plain lazy to have unexplaned symbols in your app.

Online subscriptions

Are there plans to add back the online subscription feature?
I don't like email notifications.

A very sad Gopha here. Yes, it is Gopha.
For starters, most importantly, we're lumbered with email subscriptions now. For active members such as yourself and I, this is a nightmare, because we consult on upwards of 20-50 threads a day, and often each of these threads contains more than one message. Since each new post has an email alert attached to it, our inboxes are going to be mighty clogged. I've only posted a couple of times on the new Discussions yesterday, and in the space of a few hours, have received 7 email, from 2 threads.
Online Subscriptions were so much better - because, as I'm sure you're aware, hitting Check Subscriptions took you to each and every post no matter what thread, without clogging inboxes, and without needing to dredge up the link from emails. The trouble now is that is appears once a thread has been visited, everything in there appears to be read. So if have 10 new posts in a thread, and visit that thread once to reply to 2 posts, the others appear to have been visited/read if I'm not mistaken, so upon returning, checking the status of a thread shows no new posts, even though you'd not read or addressed the other outstanding posts. (if that makes sense).
Avatars - yes, well it's not possible to upload any kind of custom avatars, and we have no Levelling at all. Yesterday, you appeared as a Guest user on one of our threads, and I couldn't figure out why. Avatars were meant to have been transferred across...? The Orange avatar I've chosen is the closest I could find to the orange-furred fellow that I used to have and besides, Gopha likes oranges. Shame they have no profiterole avatars...
Anyways, the other major gripe is that posting is messed up. I posted two things yesterday, got blank screens off both, and then when checking 10 mins later, found that they'd miraculously appeared.
Irritatingly, this new interface I find to be terribly cluttered. There are too many unexplained icons that are going to fox new users and non-regulars...
If I had a veto vote, I'd say bring back the old Discussions, and parallel in the new one for a trial period. Not like this.
What's this I hear about "most reputable posters?" - and where's the voting gone? And the reputations. And all my other posts? Grr. Gotta reset all my old subscriptions and look at the backlog of posts from folks.

Sudden unexplained "artifacts" surrounding cursor and icons on PowerMac G5

Two days ago this weird grid of dots and bars suddenly appeared on my cursor and surrounded all the icons on my desktop. Most fonts such as in Word don't seem to be affected, byt most non-letter graphics are. Games have patches of this grid in some areas. It follows my cursor around; it IS my cursor. This never happened to my older G4, which I still use. I've tried the settings and rebooting, but nothing works. What is this? Help!

One possibility is an overheating graphics card, check that its fan is running and the heat sink is stable and in proper contact with the core chip.

Unexplained status bar icons

To the left of by battery strength icon a new icon appeared today. It's a small "arrowhead" or arrow pointing to one o'clock. It seems to have appeared after I updated my "IDataUsage" and "Camera Flash" Apps. I also downloaded the "Angry Birds" App.
Does anyone know what this Icon is? I'm not sure yet but it seems to be using data.

If you take a look at Settings/General/Location Services, you'll see all the applications that use location services. If you don't want any of them to use it, turn the slider to off for that application. Alternatively, you can turn off location services in general at the same page.

I cannot change any user account icons

I cannot change any user account icons. Under the Default icons it says "No Items". Any new users are set up with a tennis ball with no other options. In the initial set up, there were a lot of choices. Now they're gone. It there a missing file?

Yes the missing user icons is unexplained and nothing I've tried has resolved it.
It seems to have occurred as part of the 10.8.2 update for me.
No user shows any of the default or custom user icons available in the users system preference. All the Apple icons are present in the /Library/User Icons folder as well as custom icons but they do not appear within the system's panel period. No icons appear there. You are able to add icons to it -per user. Any done in this manner are saved in that user's preferences so this does not affect the system level. I have tried removing preferences. I have tried removing the icons and adding them back including as root but all changes are applied to the user only. I have run Diskwarrior, repaired permissions, etc. And nothing changes this.
I cloned the image to another laptop, deleted all preferences from main library, restarted, logged in expecting it to be a preference issue. Still no user pictures shown for default user. In case the original users were corrupt, I created a new user and logged in with it. It was given one of the OSX pictures randomly chosen by the system. I logged in as user and still no pictures are shown. Tried to do a reinstall of 10.8.2 combo update and system refuses saying I cannot be done. Booted from recovery partition and it allowed an internet recovery.
No change. Took a brand new laptop and used user migration to copy the users over to it with all settings. Broke that system as well. Repeated creating new users, etc and no change. This is really annoying. I can repeat migrating users only and then partial settings to try to narrow it down but its time consuming.

Error message I'm getting is "Couldn't load XPCOM", when i try to start FF from the Desktop icon

Just in case someone else stumbles across this:
I experienced the same problem - no real idea of the cause, though it appeared after an unexplained BSOD on a Vista machine (which in turn happened after I had to clone then swap out my existing C drive - all had been running for a few days after the drive swap - I'm usually 'on' 24/7, but this time period had included several voluntary reboots, so all appeared to be functioning OK after the swap, before the BSOD.
Anyway, after reading many threads similar to this one, my own fix was stupidly simple and has proven to be 100% effective: I simply went to Mozilla and downloaded the current version of Firefox - I then just let it do its own thing and 'upgrade' my current installation, and a few minutes later, Firefox is up and running with all of my setings, add-ins etc fully intact and operational!

No, it is not a virus! Not every unexplained occurrence in life is a virus. Microsoft has a lot to answer for by brainwashing users if its operating systems into thinking anything unusual must be the result of a 'virus'.
It was most likely the recently released iOS system software update that for whatever reason did not complete.

PSE icons instead of the photo. I need to view photos at a glance. Please help me????

Please help, this is driving me crazy. I have downloaded my free PSE #9, it came with my Leica Camera. I cannot view at a glance any of my photos. There is only an icon that reads, PSE. To view any of my photos, I must click select and then preview. This gets old, and I am doing 4 times the work. I am having to use the dates to guess where my photos might be. I hate this! My old Photo Shop #5 didn't do this. When you went to my pictures, you could see every photo.
I have tried the right click and open as any program. What ever program I choose, that is the icon that appears. No photo. Still no good.

Hi,
Are you using Windows Explorer to view the files?
If so, load Explorer, go to the Tools menu and select Folder Options.
Click on the View tab and make sure the first option (Always show icons, never thumbnails) is not checked.
Click on OK and see if that is any better.

Unable to capture the adf table column sort icons using open script tool

I am new to OATS and I am trying to create script for testing ADF application using open script tool. I face issues in recording two events.
1. I am unable to record the event of clicking adf table column sort icons that exist on the column header. I tried to use the capture tool, but that couldn't help me.
2. The second issue is I am unable to capture the panel header text. The component can be identified but I was not able to identify the supporting attribute for the header text.

When I login, all of my desktop items are gone, the "Finder" icon is bouncing and a message asking to restore windows is blinking but unresponsive. I can't exit out of it. What do I do? I've tried force quitting, and it doesn't get rid of it.

Additional Information
OS X automatically relaunches the Finder when it is quit. If the Finder is unresponsive, use Force Quit to relaunch it. Select Finder in the Force Quit Window or Dock, then click Relaunch.

I am trying to open Firefox. I have changed from Beta to 3.6, neither came up on my Icon. got to registration which last night was told that it was authenticated now can't get any help. Please no more lists I need person to help me. Can't get Chats

Firefox will not open. If I click the icon I get a less than oe second flash of Firefox on the bar and then its quickly changes to Finder.
I have tried many different User names/Passwords that I no longer know which one is used. Please I have spent hours just trying to get connected to Firefox and cannot do it. I need to open Firefox for some documents for my job or I will lose the job. I wrote
all of this to you last night and was told than I was connected. Today I connected the old proxy and think that I have cleared that up. Should I drop the old Icon in trash, throw it away and start with either 3.6 or beta. I really need some help and will
of necessity being going out shortly. What shall I do? Help

Nobody can help you without proper system and version information or other technical details. if the update is botched, then run the cleaner tool and reinstall from scratch.

I'm on ff 3.5.5 for Mac. I've been prompted twice to download latest version. Each time I have dragged the ff icon from applications folder to the dock and all seems ok. But next time I start ff it says I'm on 3.5.5 and should update to latest version!

There was no "update failed" message
I wonder whether I'm doing the right thing when I drag to the dock. There's only one ff icon in the applications folder. The first time I was prompted to update it showed that days date next to the icon as if the update was successful. The second time was a few days later but I think it was still the same date next to the icon (25/8/10) I've only just noticed that (on 10/9/10) so can't be sure but I'm sure the second time was around 2nd or 3rd of Sept.
Also, I am running two versions of ff- one is english, the other is the Italian version. They can't be opened at the same time but they seem to talk to eachother in the background, so to speak, because when I open one after a long gap, it opens with all the history and settings of the other one, right up to the last website I went to. I think I closed both when updating because it prompts you to close all programmes and restart (I think/ remember) so I just clicked ok to that prompt.
By the way, I got the prompt to update twice for ''BOTH'' the Italian and the English version- so 4 times altogether so it would seem that ff does recognise them as separate but still has problems concluding the update for each separate one respectively.

Install the new version that you have downloaded.
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder], so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.

Any way to see ICONS in Open and Close Dialog boxes?

Is there any way to see ICONS in Open and Close Dialog boxes, instead of just lists of items names?
I know you can preview one at a time, but I'd love to see all my artwork as picture icons, just as you can in a finder window.
Windows does this, but not OSX that I know of. Is there a third party app that enables you to see icon view in the Open and Close Dialogs?

Thank you Steve Jobs. I guess that feature has been added in Leopard. Now there really is nothing that I'll miss from Windoze.

I installed Firefox today but it will not open and the icon on the taskbar will not close and I cannot uninstall it and the helper app does not work either?

I have tried everything that I know to uninstall the new version of Firefox. I also installed Aurora beta and it had the same behavior and I was able to uninstall that. I cannot open a ff browser to work on it using much of your support information. I click on icon but it does not start on the desktop but task manager shows it as running. I have to end task in task manager to close it. I can't uninstall it and have tried system restore but that also doesn't work because of another issue with my antivirus program.
