Unfair upgrade practices from Adobe!!!

So... decided to download PS5.  Used it for the trial period and decided that despite the fact that there were only a couple of things that I might actually use paid $199 for the upgrade.  I had been using PS2 quite contently.  I'm a professional photographer but don't get too carried away with all the bells and whistles so hadn't had a need to upgrade.  Content aware fill got me... not that even think I would use it that often... but nice to have.
Come to find out I don't qualify for the $199 upgrade price.  Why????  Because my version of PS2 came bundled in a the entire Creative Suite Premium.  Now, since purchasing that I've realized it was overkill.  The ONLY thing I use is Photoshop.  So all I wanted to upgrade is Photoshop.  NO DICE says Adobe.  My only options are to either (1) purchase an entire Suite upgrade for $599 OR purchase the stand alone version of Photoshop for $699.  WTH????  So... the person who a few years ago spent a fraction of what I paid to your company gets to upgrade for $199 while I have to pay MORE???   How is THAT fair???  It's like I'm being penalized for spending MORE money with your company a few years ago.  Certainly if I utilized the entire suite I would think it work upgrading for $599... but I don't.  And, I REFUSE to pay for a stand alone version of Photoshop when I already own a copy that should qualify for an upgrade price!  I'll stick with PS2 thank you very much.  I'm also investigating what alternatives for photo editing are out there.
All of this after I spent yesterday morning traveling through customer service in India and then finally here in the US.  WHAT A PAIN!

It may not be fair, but it IS a published policy that you cannot do what you want to do:
From the page:  http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/photoshop/upgrade/
Note specifically the wording in gray about halfway down the page:
"You cannot upgrade a previous edition of Creative Suite, Adobe Production Studio, or Macromedia® Studio to a standalone product such as Photoshop, Illustrator®, or Dreamweaver®."
Adobe knows they have you captive.  That's why I have never bought the full creative suite, but (some of) the individual products instead.

  • Upgrade path from Adobe Flash Media Streaming Server 3.5  to Adobe Media Server 5 Professional

    Hi All,
We are currently using Adobe Flash Media Streaming Server 3.5 for streaming video via flash. We want to upgrade this to Adobe Media Server 5 Professional.
I would like to understand the complete upgrade path and any specific pre-caution that I may need to take for existing videos.
Please direct me if you there already exists some support material or let me know if any specific details may be required.

FMS isn't reall suiatable for serving a website or CMS. I suppose you -could- use the included Apache installation to handle your HTTP traffic, but it would require installing a database, an application server, and whatever else you would need. You'd then need to maintain the installation yourself... FMS doesn't have any sort of package manager to handle updating Apache or anything else you might want to attach to it.
I think you'd be better off using a package manager like Plesk or Cpanel, and let it take care of your httpd server and supporting services. My advice is to just use FMS for purposes that specifically call for it.

  • Need an upgrade path from Adobe Photoshop Elements v1.0

I have a customer who has somehow made Adobe Elements 1.0 continue to work for all these years.  Is there an upgrade path to get her to the latest version?
    Thanks

If it is photoshop elements 1, there is no database (catalog) to backup, since pse 1 did not have an organizer.
The organizer started with photoshop elements 3 on windows and photoshop elements 9 on macs.
Just verify that in fact it is photoshop elements 1 by going to Help>About Photoshop Elements
This what the splash screen should look like when you do that

Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 and Premiere Elements 13 are standalone products.
So, you can have both on the same computer, but only open one for your work.
The classical recommendation is to finish a project in the version in which it was created since there
is no guarantee that a project from an earlier version will open in the later version. Probably will, but
no guarantees. And, when you do explore this, do it from a copy of the earlier version project. Once you
take the earlier version project into a later version one, you cannot go back to edit the later version edited
project in the earlier version program.
If you have both versions (9 and 13) on the same computer and you have not moved, deleted, renamed any of the version 9's files/folders,
right click the saved closed Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 project file, select Open With, and then Adobe Premiere Elements 13.
(Your 9.0/9.0.1 saved closed project file should be found in Libraries/Documents/Adobe/Premiere Elements/9.0.)
Please review and consider. If any questions or need clarification, please do not hesitate to let me know.
    Thank you.

  • Can I upgrade from Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard (on an older PC) to 6 or newer on a new HP Pavilion23?

Can I upgrade from Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard (on an older PC) to 6 or newer on a new HP Pavilion 23?

You may be able to do some work arounds with AA6 on 32-bit systems. You are probably out of luck with AA6 on 64-bit systems. (I got AA5 working with some workarounds on Win7, 32-bit) As for the upgrade, you can check at the Adobe store for the upgrade compatibilities. I think it is now at AA9, maybe AA8 for an upgrade. So, you are kind of stuck with buying a new version (no upgrade).

  • How can I upgrade from Adobe Acrobat v4.0?

After reinstalling all the software on my pc I found a problem with Adobe Acrobat which had worked perfectly well for years. When i open Outlook, I now get a message: "Microsoft Word has detected that your computer has a version of Adobe Acrobat PDFMaker which is known to cause instabilities in Word 2002. To resolve this issue download an update from Adobe's website."
The original version I had installed was v4.0 and the updates had all installed fine. But now, when I try to intal updates it doesn't work - it can't find versions of other updates like 4.05!
Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks
    GG

Did you upgrade your system to Windows XP? If so, Acrobat 4 (or 4.05) doesn''t support XP. Version 4.05 was the first version to support Office 2000 but support for Word 2002 (Word XP) wasn't introduced until later.
Upgrades (to version 9) are available from the following versions of Acrobat:

Are you using Chrome? I noticed these errors on Adobe's website redesign using Chrome. Try a different browser.

  • Upgrading from Adobe Premiere Elements 10 to 13  will my working projects be deleted?

I am considering upgrading from Adobe Elements 10 to 13.  Will I delete all my movies and projects I am working on now in Premiere 10?  Will it save everything I have already finished?  How does this work with an UPGRADE?  Thank you.

    joni sea
What computer operating system is involved? For now, I will assume Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit. Premiere Elements 13 does not support Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Mac OSX 10.7.
On your current computer, Premiere Elements 10 project files should still be saved to their hard drive save location. If you move any of the source media that went into those project after the save close, then you are going to have media disconnect issues. If applicable, consider File Menu/Project Archiver/Archive Project or Copy Project options.
    https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-elements/using/archiving-projects.html
Premiere Elements 10 and 13 are standalone products. When you go to 13, you do not convert 10 components into 13. "Upgrade" is an Adobe term
related to pricing depending on what earlier version of the program you have.
There is no guarantee that a project created in an earlier version will open in a latest version of the program. Probably will, but no guarantee.
And, once you edit a project created in an earlier version in a later version, you cannot go back to the earlier version to edit the project just edited
in the later version. So, best make a copy of the 10 project file, and use the copy to open in the later version.
Let us start here. Any questions or need clarification on the above, please do not hesitate to ask.
    Thank you.

If you installed them by download then you will need to do the same when your machine is ready.  If you upgraded to version 12 then as a minimum you will need to have the serial number from version 10 in order to confirm your eligibility for the upgrade activation.  You do not need to have version 10 installed.
You can check your account online to see if there are links to download the installation files.  If you cannot find them in your account, then here are links to find the trial versions elsewhere - you can activate them to full use using your serial numbers...

  • Upgrading from Adobe Photoshop CS

My cousin took her Photoshop CS from her computer and copied the file to mine. It is missing some functions. I recently upgraded my system to 10.5.3 and was wondering what the next Adobe Photoshop program I could get to upgrade and have all working functions. Hopefully this upgrade will be under $100... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Did she transfer the license to you, give you the original software discs and delete the software from her computer? If so, check the Adobe website for upgrade availability and cost.
If she just "copied the file(s)" to your computer and did not give you the discs and delete the software from from her computer, this is a violation of the license from Adobe, is illegal, is against the Terms of Use for these forums, etc., and you shouldn't expect to get any help for that here. Go buy a retail copy of Adobe CS3.
