Unfortunately Messaging has stopped Droid Maxx

I first noticed this issue last Friday, it has been occurring consistently since then. I can send text messages, however I can not receive. Several people have sent messages that never arrive. I also have had the phone for on about 3 months. Love this phone, until this issue. Like other posts, I have cleared cache, etc. Tried the Verizon Messaging App and even deleted all of my texting history. I am still getting the pop up. Spent 1.5 hrs on the phone with Verizon level two support on Saturday, still no fix. Where does Verizon\
Motorola stand on this issue?

Great news! We worked fast with Motorola and Google to find the cause of your messaging troubles and already have a new software update on it's way. It started being sent to customer's phones last week, but may take some time to get to everyone. For software update instructions, please visit http://vz.to/1jBA3DY.

  • "Unfortunately, Messaging has stopped" error keeps popping up and text messages are not being received on Droid Maxx I got less than 2 weeks ago.

I upgraded to a Droid Maxx about 2 weeks ago and all seemed well. Last Friday, I started receiving an "Unfortunately, Messaging has stopped" error message randomly--sometimes when I was writing a text, sometimes when I would open other apps, there was no rhyme or reason to when it would occur. Now it also appears that I am not receiving some of my texts. I called Verizon Support who told me that they are experiencing this problem on several devices and that she was going to forward me to someone for help. 20 minutes later, no one had picked up and I had to leave. So I thought I would try here to see if Verizon has come up with a fix for this, if I should get another phone, or if they are working on a software update or something. Help, I really liked this phone until now!

    Hello,
I am using the messaging app that was preloaded with the phone, the green face icon. I do not have an "Android Keyboard" app, but I have cleared the cache on the "Messaging" app, several times. I have also gone to the Verizon store where an associate did a soft reboot, telling me that would work. A very short time later, the error message started appearing again--so this did not work either.
The error message comes very sporadically. Sometimes several in a few minutes, other times not for hours.

  • Unfortunately messaging has stopped and not receiving text messages

I, am also having issues with "unfortunately messaging has stopped", AND, NOT receiving text messages. I also have 2 other Droid Ultra's on my account doing the same thing. This is totally unacceptable!!! I am not paying $600 for a piece of crap phone that does not work. I had my phone recently replaced because Verizon thought that was the problem. I can't even get the message screen to stay up long enough to type a message, if it opens at all!
Also I am getting tired of NOT receiving messages sent to me! When I do get them, the icon tells me I have a message with a number usually no more than a designation of 2 but reverts back to a 1, and, when I open the message, read it, and close out of it, if it does not close out on its own because of stopped messaging, the number on the message icon does not clear out. I have to turn off the phone and restart it to clear it. This is not acceptable and I would expect better from Verizon, not the run around!! If I had to send an urgent message and get a reply, do to the fact I am disabled, and this is my only way to communicate, that this is extremely unacceptable!!!!
I expect this to be resolved yesterday, not when you all get around to it, OR, issue me a Samsung!!! I am sure all of the others would agree!!!
I look to hear from you ASAP!!

After soak test update, I get error messages repeatedly. The majority are "unfortunately, messaging has stopped", but you can replace messaging with "android os", or any other process, as it happens with more than just messaging. I have had numerous people call and ask why I didn't reply to their texts...and I look, but have not received any new texts. YES, I have restarted phone. I have cleared data as well as cache on all apps. I have downloaded the vzw messaging app, which seems silly, since it happens with several different processes and apps, but all to no avail. I am missing texts from my employer, from my family. This did happen, but rarely, before this "soak test". It is now Kitkat version 19.6.3.obake_verizon.en.US. THIS is when I started having problems...like 50 times a day kind of problems! I have seen hundreds of posts all over the internet over the past 3 days. Does no one know how to fix this??? Shouldn't there be a way to revert phone to a pre-update state? and no, hard reset did NOT work!!!! I have been with verizon for well over 15 years, but I have not upgraded my lines and will not in July either. This is ridiculous. It's not like my games aren't working, it is my messaging and "android os"...my lifeline at work!

    kristinaf333,
Oh no, I am sorry to hear your messages are not working since the software update. I greatlly appreciate doing all that troubleshooting to try and get the messaging application back in business. I know how much I rely on my messages so I can understand the urgency to get this resolved. Have you had a resolution ticket opened since you started experiencing issues with your messages? Does this happen with all contacts or just some? Please provide additional information to ensure we get to the bottom of this for you.

  • Why am I receiving the "Unfortunately, Messaging has stopped" error message and how do I fix it?

Why am I receiving the "Unfortunately, Messaging has stopped" error message and how do I fix it?

I am so upset. Please read my messages from my postings. This has nothing to do with SIM Card, Hard Reset, Apps, Google Gmail Account, nothing. I have gone thru all of this and NOTHING has fixed this. I went to the store today and spoke to the manager on duty. He said he had to try and duplicate the problem before he could help me. I showed him "screen captures" I did, told him it's out here on the board, etc. etc. Needless to say I ended up coming home with the same phone, "he" erased the phone and started over again. Well guess what, it's not a error with "MY" Gmail account being corrupted because if that is the case Mrs. Hayden14 has a bad Gmail account too. If you guessed it, the phone just crashed again! I was able this time to capture a report with ALL the history in it and saved screen captures to PROVE to him this is not a joke. Even the report says "Crash". This time it was something else I don't even or ever have used. I have also wasted over a day , yes a full work day on this without question.
I have had to get the run around for the last day. This is totally ridiculous, including them putting me on hold for 55 min. Oh, that's another funny story. Anyways, tomorrow morning I am going to the Verizon store one last and final time and I hope they decided to do the right thing and give me a phone that does not crash and works. It would be handy at work for me, especially where I work at. I hope hope hope someone listens to and helps me. I would love for them to see me walk in, take my phone and say to me were going to get you another phone, hand it to me, see if it works and prove it's the device. I don't hear anyone having this issue on other phone types so sounds like its the phone type.
I have had 3 phones now in the matter of 2 weeks. I am sure the FedEx charges will add up to a cost of a new phone at some point and start to outbalance your requirement to give me the same phone when it has the same problem.
Can't wait to see what happens tomorrow.

  • 'unfortunately messaging has stopped' error

Hi all, I have bought an Xperia Z3 compact phone few days ago. And since yesterday, I get the message 'unfortunately, messaging has stopped' as soon as I try to open the messaging app. It is really annoying, as this is a basic function of a phone. I have tried restarting, force closing the app, updating with sony udpates, and clearing all data. Any ideas how to repair this?

well, It seems my problem has been solved miraculously! Here is what I did: Following some suggestion on another forum to use another app for messaging, I installed the 'GO SMS PRO' to use instead of the default messaging. The new app asked me if I wanted to have it as default instead of the 'messaging' app, and I said yes. Then by mistake I clicked again on the messaging app icon on my phone, the messaging also asked me if I wanted to use messaging app instead of the GO SMS PRO to read my messages and I said yes. AND BINGO all of a sudden the 'Messaging' app is working again! I guess moving to the new default app has changed some thing that was giving the error.  Anyways, I thought to share it with you, in case someone else has the same problem

  • Unfortunately messaging has stopped

This keeps coming up and I'm not receiving messages. I've noticed other people have had this problem. When is this going to be fixed!?!

If you've read any of these threads, it DOESN'T MATTER which phone. The problem is in the latest Kitkat update to the pre-installed Messaging program on our phones. NONE of your suggestions will correct the problem. The only answer until Motorola fixes this is to delete Messaging and download Verizon Messaging.
WHY DON'T YOUR STORE PERSONNEL KNOW THIS? DOES ANYONE COMMUNICATE? AREN'T YOU IN THE COMMUNICATIONS BUSINESS?

  • HELP! After doing a recent update (Version4.4.2) on my Droid Razr M my messaging has stopped!

HELP! After doing a recent update (Version4.4.2) on my Droid Razr M my messaging has stopped working. Every time I try to open to sent a text I get ,"Unfortunately, messaging has stopped" message. Any ideas on how to correct this issue??? not liking this at all!!!

Ok got in touch with Live Chat and fixed it. Go to app manager and open messaging there. Clear cache, data then force stop. That fixed it! But when I opened messaging I could only read messages couldn't reply. At the top of the screen was a message asking to set default either as Google hangouts or SMS. once you set the default messaging should be fully functional. Hope it helps.

  • Messaging issues with droid maxx

For the last couple of weeks I have not been able to send any pictures to anyone via text message. Every time I try, I get an "unfortunately messaging has stopped" message and then the messaging app closes. From there I reset cache and cleared data. Didn't fix it. Next I downloaded classic KitKat 4.4 messaging. Still unable to send pics. Next I downloaded Verizon messaging app. While the app doesn't close when I try to send a pic, it will not send the pic at all. It will say sending, and then the pic will simply disappear from the conversation. I've no clue what else to do to fix this.

Here's the photo I was referring too I'll do some more digging for a Photo on the  Droid Maxx!   Update:  As of now there is none that I have found but as I find something I'll post back what  i got .. b33

  • Messaging has stopped

I'm also having trouble with my maxx. It started 2 days ago. I'm using the standard messaging app that came with the phone. Says it's sending texts for hours on end and I they never send.  Seems I'm also not receiving some texts either. The notification " unfortunately messaging has stopped" comes up more than the app. Have also seen "Motorola.com has stopped" also. I have restarted the phone, cleared cache, deleted unused apps, and done a soft reset numerous times to no avail. I use my phone  extensively for work and a fix would be appreciated!

Let's look further into this mutt329! Try clearing the data on the messaging application by following here http://vz.to/1mSi7Wa If unsuccessful I suggest backing up the device and completing a factory reset here http://vz.to/1sSzd9R Thank you.

  • Unfortunately, Bluetooth has stopped working message

Hello, Two weeks ago I bought a pair of wireless headphones to use with my Samsung Galaxy S5. Up until Saturday night everything worked fine. On Saturday night I received a message stating ‘Unfortunately, Bluetooth has stopped’ this message appears every couple of minutes and I can only stop the message from appearing by turning the Bluetooth off. I have tried clearing the Bluetooth cache and restarting the phone but the message continues to come up. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Interested in how this turns out. My Bluetooth started playing up on Saturday as well, so very odd they all started failing around the same time. If I was to take a stab in the dark I'd say it's a glitch with the OS that Samsung/Telstra need to get on top of ASAP.
So far, so good. Bluetooth is working correctly with two of my devices, namely my car's head unit and my Pebble watch. As a side note, Samsung's Smart Switch leaves a lot to be desired as a backup and restore application.  All up, I think it took me about 4 or 5 hours to reinstall and resync all my data - maps, podcasts, ref material.  I trust that the reset has solved the problem once and for all, but reading some other forums I note the outcome is good for a limited time before it needs doing again.  Other forums also suggest it's a known issue with Samsung/Lollipop that requires addressing. I thought an earlier poster was on to something when I saw the last update date of the Telstra app was 29/7, but that's probably coincidence.  I think I average about 4 or 5 app updates on any given day, making it hard to pin down to any one app. Needless to say, I shall be monitoring the situation more closely for a while.

  • Unfortunately email has stopped

I keep getting an error that says "Unfortunately email has stopped"  Sometimes I am not even in my email.  I have 3 email accounts set up.  One is corporate work email, a gmail, and a time warner cable email account.  No I am having problems getting the email to even open.  I have a notification on the top of the screen but I cannot open it.

Same here. I've had a Droid Razr Maxx for a year. No recent op system updates. No new apps downloaded recently. About a week ago, phone began displaying same message "Unfortunately email has stopped" every few minutes. I have 2 gmail accounts, a corporate account, and a godaddy email account. If the email app is open (either corporate or goddaddy inbox) and the message pops up, the email app closes automatically. I think this glitch is also the reason my phone has sucked down 1.5 gb in the past 5 days because if I open settings, select data usage, then select email, the email foreground app has used 40 mb in past 7 days, but the background has used 1.63 gb. I'm almost always on wifi and have never come close to using even half a gb until now. Has something hijacked my phone? Is the email app resetting and resynching multiple times in an hour? Is this a software issue? Is this a com.motorola.motoemail issue? I've always had email accounts set to sync every 15 minutes and download attachments over wifi. Haven't changed settings in months. I just realized my battery has also been draining much more than usual. In the past, my screen used the most significant amount of battery, but now my phone says the email is using more than the screen. I am now at a loss as far as troubleshooting.
