Unhappy customer. all data erased without consent.

when i plugged my ipod into my laptop i tunes immediately restored my ipod. meaning all my data was erased. You know what that means? yes EVERYTHING is gone, my ipod refuses to turn on now because it wont fully restore. Data that i lost included once in a lifetime opportunities such as videos of me going up into a helicopter with dear friends, photos of the past. All this happened just on the night i decided to have a copy of my stuff on my laptop. i am seriously not impressed by this. I will NEVER EVER see any of that stuff again. even my serial number wiped, meaning i probably cant even send it away to apple. ( Ive had to before because the touch sensitivity wouldnt work majority of the time. yet it was sent back saying there was nothing wrong. ) I am seriously upset about this.

You seem to be confused about what iTunes can and cannot do. iTunes cannot erase your serial number.
Is this laptop a computer you have sync'd with in the past? If not, whose computer is it? Can you tell us why you hooked up your iPod to the computer?
Have you ever backed up to iCloud?
We need some more information about your situation before we can help.

  • Dead Macbook, Want 2 Sell, How 2 Transfer All Data & Erase CleanB4 Selling?

So I have no idea why, but my MacBook is not powering on. I tried everything they suggest on Support, but no go. I've read it might be the Logic Board, but would rather just get rid of the Macbook and buy a new one instead of paying for repairs. Obviously, I'm out of the warranty period - 2 yrs old and refurbished at that.
So two things I need to do:
    1) Transfer all my files, data, images, etc from Dead Macbook to...new one? Or an external drive? Any suggestions as to how best to do that? Any software available?
    2) How do I completely erase/wipe clean the hard drive (off a Dead Macbook that won't power fo anything) before selling it whole or in parts.
Would appreciate any input or suggestions!

I would suggest selling the dead MacBook without the hard drive. That way you know your personal info is with you, and if the drive works, then keep it as a backup drive (get yourself an external enclosure to put the drive into).
If you get a new MacBook, I wouldn't swap the drives. Since your existing MacBook is older, it might have issues with the newer hardware. Again, I would get an external enclosure for your existing hard drive, then use migration assistant to get your data back onto your new MacBook.

  • Emails data deleted without consent by apple

My entire  iCloud emails from january until june 2014 have disappeared without me deleting them, i have contacted apple to get them to restore the emails but they have responded pathetically with an answer that they cannot restore the computers emails in the iCloud email account, i have asked them if i pay them a fee for the email service monthly i will be prepared to pay them for the service but they are not cooperating and now i have lost important business data and client information which has been transmitted through i cloud on a trust basis that i believed that by establishing my apple computers with a compatible apple email address the information and the security of being able to restore data on iCloud would be forthcoming, this has given me no confidence in the digital email system from a business perspective and is embarrassing to apple not to me

  • GAME CENTER SANDBOX?? ALL DATA ERASED

i started an app and then it asked me to log into game center, which is weird. so  i did, and then it made me start a whole new account! and everythign, my friends and points and games were gone except for one game in my game center. i sitll have the games in my games tab, but the 'me tab' doesnt detect this for some reason. it also says in my account settings that i am in sandbox 2B56 which after researching  found weird, as  i dont develop games...
    pls help!

    BTW, I did this:
    http://www.samjordan.co.uk/2011/02/ios-device-stuck-in-game-center-sandbox-fix-h ere/
    Specifically:
Close all apps (not really needed, but simplifies things)
Open game center and create a sandbox account (no need to verify email address)
Log out of this new account by tapping your email address under the 3 boxes.
Close game center and then make sure it’s removed from the multi-tasking bar
Open a game center enabled game and be presented with the normal game center login!
I am still logged into my sandbox account it seems. I have created a sandbox account using the same email and password then the regular one (and than my appStore account). Yet my progress is correct in the games. It's already like half a fix... makes it bearable.

  • I've jail break Iphone 3GS. i tried to restore setting (erasing all data and media) without connecting to computer/itunes. When it starts it freezes by showing apple logo only. what is the solution.

i've jail break Iphone 3GS. i tried to restore setting (erasing all data and media) without connecting to computer/itunes. When it starts it freezes by showing apple logo only. what is the solution. please help me out. Here i don't have iphone service center too.

Although not illegal, Apple discourages a user from modifying the iPhone OS in any manner, including "jailbreaking".  Apple feels so strongly about this that discussing methods to assist a user trying to either jailbreak or "unjailbreak" an iPhone are prohibited.

  • Way to erase all data without restore?

I just got off the phone with apple and they tolf me to take the phone to verizon for exchange due to wifi issues. I don't really want to go through the whole restore process plus Verizon may not like it restored in order to check it out. If I use erase all content under the reset function, will that securely remove all data?

I recently sold my iPhone 4s and followed the erase all content route but didn't stick long enough to see it through, and I found some iPhone data recovery app can restore deleted data from iPhone without backup files, so, I think we have to permanently erase everything from iPhone device before selling it, some “Deleted operation” really doesn’t erase all the data and it still out there, you cannot it.
This is an article talking about:
    1. How to permanently erase data from iPhone without restoring
    2.  How to wipe iPhone data before selling

  • How do I get my old iPhone 4g to work with a new computer without losing all data on it?

I bought a new MacBook Pro with Retna display to replace a dead gateway running Windows XP. My iPhone 4 was always connected to the old gateway and I synced to the iTunes on it. Now I have my new MacBook up and running and have logged into its new iTunes and synced my new iTunes to my Apple ID and to the apple store. Everything looks good in the new iTunes. Problem is now when I connect my old iPhone to the new computer it's iTunes warns of my iPhone data about to be erased. How can I prevent losing all my stuff. I don't want to lose all my text messages on the iPhone. What can I do to prevent losing everything from my phone?

Ok thanks again for your reply, link to Apple article, and concern for my questions. That is very refreshing to have people willing to share their knowledge like you.
So why do you suppose we get this awful warning when we connect our iPhone to a new computer that all data on the phone will be deleted if we continue? Furthermore why don't we get a further explanation as to what to do sat that point?
I can not stand warnings like this that make me feel like I have done something wrong, that somehow I may be violating my terms of service. All that legalize is not customer friendly. Apple has always impressed my more that any company with excellent personal customer service but this is not good the way they scare you when you honestly are trying to move to a new computer with your old iPhone.

how do i erase all data on an iphone 4s. the wifi stopped working after a software update. I have upgraded to an iphone 6 but need to clear everything on the old phone so i can trade it in. Is it possible to clear all data without wifi working?. thanks

Connect the iPhone to a computer running iTunes and use iTunes on that
computer to restore as a new iPhone which will wipe current content.

  • Had many issues with phone, decided to erase all data and now it won't finish

Okay here's the rundown of my problem on my iPhone 5 32GB. I can't check currently (you'll understand why later) but I believe it was on iOS 7.1.1 as I know it wasn't the absolute most recent version. First off, my lock button is sometimes unresponsive, a hardware issue and I haven't gotten around to getting that fixed yet. Anyways.
Today I wanted to open up my twitter app. The instant it opens, everything freezes. I mean everything: screen, lock button, home button, everything. The screen usually shuts off after 90s if I don't do anything, so the screen went black after this time as everything I did didn't register. Now with the screen being black, still no response from most things. The only thing I can do is activate Siri, though the screen still doesn't turn on, just the sound. She couldn't usually hear me, and if she did it would take her about a minute or so to respond. I can still connect to iTunes (windows 8) though so I did that, but I stopped the initial sync. I tried doing the hold both buttons for 10s thing but that didn't work (might be because the lock button is iffy) so I couldn't start recovery mode.
At this point, I decide the only thing I could do (because no where on Google anyone had a similar problem) is to restore the phone, either to factory or to a backup. When I tried these options in iTunes, it told me that it could not do this while Find my iPhone is active, and to go to settings on my phone to turn it off. I can't open settings with the screen black. I tried going to icloud.com in order to see if I could turn it off from there. The site could find my phone just fine, could make the sound just fine. I could however not remove the device from iCloud unless the phone was turned off (which I again can't do with a black screen).
At this point, I went to the directory with the backup on my computer and copied it to another location. Then in iTunes I did a sync to create a new backup. Now the only thing that was available for me to do was on the web site to erase all data from the phone as it did not require Find my iPhone to be turned off. Feeling out of options, I went through with it and clicked erase. For some reason, this is the time that the screen decides to turn on. The phone showed the apple logo and a progress bar. The bar progressed quickly at first but then slowed as it neared the end. At this current point, it's been at what appears to be 100% for around an hour with nothing happening. The buttons do nothing, my computer can't see the device so iTunes won't do anything.
Is there anything else I could try to do or should I just wait it out. My city does have an apple store which I could go to tomorrow but if I could get my phone running tonight that would be great. Also, if I can't do anything and it doesn't budge, if I take it to the store would it cost a lot to fix or (if necessary) replace? It was a birthday gift two years ago, bought without a plan, and I don't think it's still under warranty.

    Hi..thanks for your advice!
Ok, I am student so buying a new phone is not possible ;( This experience has turned me off Apple anyway! All I did was click yes to their iTunes upgrade prompt asking me if I want to update....and now I don't have a phone and can't access all my backup etc on my iTunes because it seems the only way to get to it is with another iPhone!?
I can't believe that through the Apple recycling program I could possibly get $50 for this phone because the hardware is perfect but there is no support for this issue...feels like Apple is just trying to force everyone with hacked phone to buy new ones!

  • Saving metadata from Lightroom erases custom XMP data in DNG...

    Hello,
There seems to be an issue with the way Lightroom applies changes in from the LR catalog to the assets metadata.  The setup is LR 2.5 and there is an orginal set of images that have custom XMP data applied to them via Bridge.  There is one LR catalog that points to these images and the LR catalog ratings and labels match those that are in these images.  A second LR catalog copy (not export) was made where additional changes were made only to ratings and labels.  This catalog also points to the original assets.  When using the Save Metadata to files function in LR for this catalog (and selecting ALL files), LR erases all the original custom XMP data contained in the DNG images and writes only the ratings and label information.
It doesn't seem that LR should be overwriting the entire XMP packet when only ratings and labels have changed and are saved back to the assets.  Is that the way this is designed or is this a malfunction?
Thanks for any help on this!
    David

I may have answered my own question as we have run into this issue before.  Lightroom is really not designed for any type of simultaneous workflow on the same files.  Most content management applications utilize the check-in/check-out mechanism to avoid having to perform any type of merging or implement a logical business rule to determine which content updates "win"  It is no different with Bridge and LR.  You work in one application at a time doing specific things to the same files and then read from each other when those actions are complete.  Working in this manner you never run into the merge issue or lose data from either side.
Our simple answer to this question is adjust our workflow timing for things to accommodate this behavior.  The one thing that I will say is that LR does really need to provide some type of catalog history functionality that can be queried.  I believe that LR does interact with the catalog database in this manner when you use the Save functionality from the context menu and have not imagery selected.  It scans the database looking for any changes and then only updates those files it finds changes for.  If we could only see this type of functionality added in a way that would show us history for changes to the catalog at large and not have to dig into individual assets to look for these changes that would be great.
We are going to look at a way to query the LR database itself to see if there isn't some time stamp information and file ID/filename data that can't be accessed as it would be invaluable to be able to look across large catalogs (well over 1000 images) and find the files that had been most recently updated (in updated I mean only simple updates to rating and label) and then separate these out to work with in their own group (collection).
I could also look at this as yet another opportunity to refine a workflow that doesn't create changes to identical data each time changes are incurred.  I will look at that option much more closely as it is really the only thing we can easily control.
    Cheers!

  • After reset erase all data, cannot recover

Have IPhone 3g. Getting ready to trade in, entered reset to erase all data. Moving bar of erased data looked good. After reboot Apple Logo stayed. Pushed power and home to shut off. Then reconnected cable to IPhone. Started ITunes, detected IPhone in recovery mode, started recovery, process looked good extracting software, verifying, preparing iphone for recovery but then received error message, cannot restore 2005.
Tried DFC mode (dark screen), same result, no recovery, same error.
IPhone was moved from original carrier, to new carrier, don't know for sure, the name of that process. Lyndia?
If that process changed firmware, how do I restore to original firmware?
Thanks to all good help/clues. Cheers, Bill

Not a helpful answer. Moving carriers is a part of being a FREE American. Moving isn't hacking in any sense of that terrible word.
Hacking is accessing malicously, without permission, and with the intent to gain access to data that does not belong to the person gaining access.
Moving a phone at the end of a contract is just like porting...guaranteed by USA law...of course it took law to enable that porting freedom.
I guess it will take legislative action to end the silly and uncompetitive, "locking."
