Unhappy ipod mini! apple refused to fix it!

I hav an ipod mini, but it broke and was showing an unhappy ipod on screen. I finally managed to get hold of apple on the phone, so i could have it sent away and fixed as it is still under warranty! the box was sent out and then my ipod started its journey to the Netherlands. I received my ipod back 8 days later with a note saying they hadn.t fixed it due to my ipod being abused!!!! ??? An unhappy ipod is a technical fault with the program, therefor why is it that "i have abused my ipod" when there is no external damage and it hasnt been near water or been dropped! i phoned apple and they wouldnt send me out or a replacement or fix the one i have! The operator would not let me talk to managment, so i demanded that he told me an address i could right to management! this sort of stuff is covered in the "Consumer Protection Act 1987" and "Supply of goods and services act 1982" Has anyone else had the same problem with apples crappy services????

thanks im going to try. I have found the acts and the copy of there policy and im goin to take photos of my ipod so they can see it isnt damaged externally. And if they still wont do anything about it then i will take it to trading standards! I spent an hour on the phone to them last night and got no where, I must have spent about 25 minutes of that on hold!! got knows how much that is going to cost me for the phone bill!!

  • Apple refused to fix my phone as they said it's been modified! I got this phone from EE brand new, who confirmed they get these phones direct from Apple, no one is helping and I am without a phone help?..

Apple refused to fix my phone as they said it's been modified, I got this phone as an upgrade through EE. They have said phones come directly from iPhone, I have not had repaired it's been fine. What can be done about this.

Unless you jailbroke the iPhone, in which case you have yourself voided any further support, this is an issue you'll need to take up with EE, since they're the ones who sold you the iPhone. It's quite possible that EE is lying to you and gave you an iPhone they took back from someone else and it was indeed modified by some unauthorized person or shop.

  • Ipod mini Functions refusing to install?

I recently purchased an ipod mini for entertainment rather than my old walkman, i tried installing the Disk containing itunes which comes as part of the package and get past entering in the ipod reference number, then it starts installing, once it is completed the window automatically closes, however, when i browse through my computer files i cannot find it anywhere in sight, i have tried restarting my computer multiple times and re-installing it to no good effect, i have even gone online and tried manually downloading itunes to no effect AT ALL!!! i cant find any support online or in my instruction booklet, and i dont fancy having to pay £50 to get somebody to do it for me either! any expert advice out there?

So when you install iTunes you can't find it anywhere in order to double click and get it to open? There's no icon on your desktop that says iTunes? How about when you click the Start menu on the bottom left of your screen and search there?

  • Apple Refuses to Fix my Ipod!

I just sent my 60gb video ipod in because the screen no longer works. There are absolutely no cracks, dents, or visible scratches on my ipod.
And yet! Apple said their diagnosis indicates that the "crack" on my screen has resulted from an external cause. This is ridiculous since there's no "crack". I can take a picture of my ipod screen with the serial # visible in front of a mirror to prove that they're lying.
How can I dispute this and get my ipod replaced????
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Humm ...
If I were you, rather than send it back and dispute this with apple. I will bring it to an apple shop in person, be frank to the apple guys and explain what has been happened.

  • 1611 error message and Apple refusing to fix

    Hello all,
I started to have a few random problems with my iPod touch less than 3 weeks after getting it. I always took very good care it (I got the 16gb and it cost WAY to much NOT to take good care of it). Well, after trying to fix it, it completely crapped out on me. iTunes wanted to restore it, and none of my info was showing up anymore. So I tried to restore it, and I got a 1611 error message. I tried everything on Apple's website to try to fix it to no avail.
So, I called them up. They sent out a box for me to put it in, send it to them, and they would fix it. I got my box back a few days later absolutely thrilled. Unfortunately when I opened up the box, I found a piece of paper inside with this on it:
--A diagnostic evaluation has determined the iPod has internal damage related to a liquid spill or contamination.
Are you kidding me! My iPod has NEVER been exposed to water. I never exercised with it, because I hadn't bought a waterproof case yet. The only thing I did with it was play music and podcasts, play applications on it, and use it in my car on the drive to and from work, but it was NEVER EVER exposed to water. I paid almost $400 for this thing that didn't last 3 weeks. My husband and I are buying a desktop (my laptop is 4 years old and needs replacing) early next year and I was wanting the iMac. But my husband has never liked how expensive Apple products are, and this just pushes him over the edge. Thanks for the GREAT service Apple.

Most small bits of consumer electronics have a Liquid Damage Indicator. In the case of the Touch, I believe it's at the bottom of the headset jack and very hard to see. The LDI can be triggered not just by liquid but also by moisture (you'd be surprised how many people think it's okay to charge their cell phones in the bathroom.)High levels of moisture or humidity can also damage a Touch. Once there has been any exposure to liquid or moisture, it's difficult to proof what originally caused the problem.
The only suggestion I can offer is that you take the Touch to an Apple Store if there is one at all near you. You may have better luck pleading your case to an actual person.
    Best of luck.

  • My button has stopped working and Apple refuse to fix it. This started happening 9 months after purchase. Product now out of warranty, but the fault is common.

    Hi Apple users,
A few months ago my iPhone 4 button stopped working and has made my phone unusable. Most of my friends that have had iPhones for about a year have a similar fault.
I recently contacted Apple to discuss this and ask how to fix it. They said that it would cost £140 as it is 1 day out of warranty. I should have called a few weeks ago.
As it is known that the fault happens gradually over a period of weeks, I fail to understand how that is not an issue Apple would like to chase up and fix. So, Apple, if this is common, then your design is faulty. I will no longer recommend iPhone to friends.
If anyone else has had a similar experience, do please post your comments here. I'm now chasing up apple to find out if it really does cost £140 to repair something that is broken due to a manufacturing fault.
    E

I don't believe it is as common as you believe it is, I've only known one person with a defective home button (and I know many people with iPhones) and she took it in and had it replaced under warranty.
Did you take your phone in to an Apple Store or did you call? Either way, make a Genius Bar appointment at an Apple Store and ask to talk to the manager and explain your situation calmly. If that fails, call AppleCare and ask to be transferred to customer service. Again, discuss it calmly.

  • Superdrive Update 2.1 killed my superdrive, Apple refuses to fix it

Those of you familiar with the issue probably know that there used to be a superdrive firmware update for MacBook Pros. My computer recieved this firmware upgrade 1 month after my warranty expired. At the time, I was in China for school. I recently came back to California and took my MBP to the local apple store. The "geniuses" told me they were unaware of the problem and since my laptop is out of warranty, it is my responsibility to pay for the repair - $310. Spoke to the manager, who explained that he has been working there for a LONG time and has never heard of anyone with this problem. Called Apple Care, told me they can't help me. Got transfered to customer relations, told me very politely that there is no way the firmware update could have killed the superdrive. That it must have been something else that caused the superdrive to stop working. When I mentioned the users on the forum, they said that forum posters sometimes don't know what they are talking about.
Very disappointed with Apple's attitude when an issue like this arises. Let me know if anyone has any suggestions. My main concern is not being able to re-install OS X or Windows XP through bootcamp since I do not have an external DVD-drive.

Hi, tbk568. Firstly, you've posted in a forum devoted to the "unibody" MBP that was released in October 2008, and that isn't the model you have. Secondly, there is no trace on Apple's Downloads site of any such thing as SuperDrive Firmware Update 2.1. There's a 2.0, but that isn't applicable to any MBP. You seem firmly convinced that everyone knows the apparently nonexistent firmware update "kills" MBP SuperDrives, and anyone who doesn't admit it is less than responsible. But we don't have any idea why you believe that, and you haven't mentioned any supporting evidence or provided links to anything that might shed any additional light on your complaint. So we're pretty much at a loss.
I suggest reposting your question in whichever forum on the page linked below contains previous posts that seem related to your problem:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=250
I suspect the chances that you'll convince Apple to replace your drive for free are negligible under the circumstances. If you can't make any further progress with Apple or are disinclined to try, then I recommend that you buy an external SuperDrive or replace your internal one yourself. Either option will cost less than a third of what you were quoted for the replacement by Apple, and will enable you to move on.

  • Transfer music from CD-R to iPod mini

I had a friend remove my music on to CD-Rs to make space on my computer. Since then, my iPod crashed (apple trying to fix it) and I bought a new one. Anyone know how to get the music from the CD-R's to my ipod mini or do I have to copy it back to my computer? All the original songs are still listed in the library but the actual music is stored on the discs. Hope someone can help. thanks
    iPod mini   Windows 2000

If the music was stored on the CDs as an audio CD, then you should import them into iTunes as you would any other CD.
If the music was stored on the CDs as data (mp3 etc), then you can drag the contents into the iTunes library through Explorer.
Either way, the music will have to be in iTunes before you can put it on the iPod.

  • Ipod mini not frozen yet won't let me play music

Symptoms: Upon being turned on the ipod mini acts normal by showing the apple icon. However, it has a new and unusual sound when it turns on (no headphones are attached when this happens). Then, it displays a picture of an unsmiley ipod mini and a link to the apple support site. Finally, it turns off.
What I've done to fix it: I've plugged it into my computer, toggled the hold switch on and off (while disconnected from the computer, turned it on dozens of times, and tried pressing and holding random buttons on the ipod for kicks. No dice.
Is there any cheaper way to fix my ipod mini than sending it to the apple store? I went through the procedure of signing my ipod mini up to be fixed and stopped when I saw what I'd have to pay. 210$!! A brand new mini costs 50 dollars less!
    Thanks for your time,
    Andrew

my ipod mini second generation pink died while I was playing it as I do everyday on my Bose. It makes a funny clicking sound. All that happens is I get a falshing apple symbol. I have tried the hold-menu--switch solutions many times but nothing happens. When i plug it into the computer it doesn't show up and is not recognized by my ibookG4 which I have shut down and restarted. I live 200 miles from the nearest Apple store. HELP!!!!

  • Apple broke my iPod and refused to fix it, What should I do?

Sometime around the end of September, I downloaded iTunes version 5.0 (I believe). The first time I opened it, it told me I needed to download the software updater for my iPod mini. So I downloaded the Software Updater, then the problems started.
This was two months ago, so I don't remember exactly everything that happened.
I clicked "Update" from the choices, and it was updating my iPod. Then the program froze. I eventually closed it, and my iPod had that file folder icon with the ! on the display. I ran the Updater again, and it froze again. I went to the website, and tried everything, even selecting "Refresh" from the software updater, and it froze again.
The software updater broke my iPod.
So I sent it in for service one month later. I would have sent it in sooner, but when I saw they were going to charge me $30 for shipping to fix their mistake, I was outraged, and sent them an e-mail. They never replied.
So I sent my iPod, and they sent it back unfixed. Over the course of three weeks, I sent them maybe four e-mails, and it took them that long to reply. They told me they have the right to refuse service on any iPod.
And if that wasn't bad enough...
I can't uninstall iTunes off my computer. I want everything Apple-related off my computer, but they did something so I can never get rid of iTunes, I know it.
I'm a young college student. I can't afford to buy another MP3 player. I think Apple, a multi-billion dollar company, can pay to fix my iPod that their program broke.
    I just don't get it...

SO you waited a month, got more ticked off and then decided to send it in for $30?
Yes. I know that sounds stupid, but they didn't reply to my e-mail, so I eventually succumbed to their wicked practices and sent it in with a service request.
Do you meanit didn't work or did they tell you they did nothing to it?
There was a letter saying they didn't fix it, and to call a phone number if I had questions. The phone number was just a recording of the letter they sent.
They told you the warranty was void because of something you did to the iPod?
I sent it in for the ! file folder problem, and they didn't fix that. I don't know why.
Start -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs
    Yeah, no kidding.
I've tried that a few times, and the Uninstall program never comes up.
So I downloaded the new version of iTunes, figuring I would try to uninstall the new version. But I can't install the new version. Error #1627 or something.
Have you tried all the links on the iPod Service and Support page?
Yes. When I first got the file folder icon, I did everything on the site. Tried resetting it, and nothing happened. Tried putting it in disk mode, but nothing happened. Left it plugged in for hours. Did it while it was plugged in, nothing. Unplugged it and tried again, nothing.
It's been unused for nearly 2 months now.
I just want them to fix it. Is that so much to ask? Their program caused the stupid ! folder icon to come up and keep my iPod from working. Yet they refuse to help me. It took them 3 weeks to answer my e-mail, and all they did was send me the same form letter I got with my returned iPod, and on the phone.
I swear, I am never buying another Apple product as long as I live. Awful awful customer service. You can't even get a human response out of anyone.

  • Old iPod mini can't be recognized after formatting, and iTunes 'Apple Mobile Device Driver not found.'

My roommate gave me an old iPod Mini a few days ago. It was working fine 'til I plugged it into my computer and it asked me to format it. I did, and now it cannot be recognized by iTunes or my computer. My computer views it as a "removable disk" which cannot be accessed. In devices, it is listed as an Apple iPod though, so I'm hoping not all is lost. I have tried many quick fixes I've read on internet (including changing disk letter) but to no avail. I have reinstalled the new iTunes and now that is telling me it has not installed properly, and when I ran diagnostics, it reads that the Apple Mobile Device Driver not found. I will copy & paste all the info from the diagnostic run below, and if anybody can help me with my new (old) iPod, I'd be everly greatful!

What i knew about iPhone before buying it:
    What You Need
    To use iPhone, you need:
A new two-year wireless service plan with AT&T
A Mac or a PC with a USB 2.0 port and one of the following operating systems:
Mac OS X version10.4.10 or later
Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later
Windows Vista Home Premium, Business, Enterprise, or Ultimate edition
iTunes 7.3 or later, available at www.itunes.com
    An iTunes Store account
    An Internet connection
You must be at least 18 years old to open a new AT&T wireless account. You will need a
major credit card to open a new iTunes Store account.
    Yeahyeah check all that stuff;
Oh well; just when i thought i'd finally cross over to the beautiful packaging of APPLE. I remember in design school that form follows function. Thanks.

  • The screen on my ipod mini is black with small dots.  It looks like space.  Can I do anything to fix it?

    Hi,
My screen on my ipod mini is black with small dots.  It looks like space.  Does anyone have any suggestions, please?
    Thank you. Cindy

This is an iPod mini, not the iPod nano in your profile info?
If you have not already, try doing a reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1320
This restarts the iPod.  It is not erased.
If that does not help, the next thing to try would be a Restore (as long as the iPod is still recognized by iTunes when connected.  The Restore button is in the iPod's Summary screen in iTunes.  This DOES erase the iPod, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings.  If a software problem on the iPod is the cause, a Restore should fix it.
If the screen still has this problem after doing a Restore, it is likely to be a hardware problem on the iPod.

  • I cannot fix my ipod mini

i have had my ipod mini for only a year and suddenly i can't fix it. The screen shows an apple and then it will show a folder with an exclamation point then it will show a sad icon. I have tried everything. I have restored it. I have tried to puit it in disk mode and could not do it. I have uninstalled and installed the i-pod software many times. i have also updated it about 10 times. Is there something else I am supposed to do, or should I just get it fixed some how? I need help.
    ipod mini   Windows 2000

It would seem that you've already seen these troubleshooting articles.
    My iPod is sad.
What does this picture on my iPod mean?
You could try to format the iPod in Windows. It does the same thing as restoring and you would need to restore the iPod as normal (using the iPod updater) afterward. This can work when the iPod is recognized by the computer, but not by the updater.
First, put the iPod into forced disk mode.
See: How to put the iPod into disk mode.
On your PC, go "my computer" and right click on the iPod, then choose "format". Ensure the settings are at "default" and that "quick format" is not checked. Now select "format". When that's finished, restore the iPod using the updater.
This icon is usually indicative of a hard drive problem, and if nothing you've tried helps, it will need service.

  • Apple Refusing iPod replaceIment.

I sent my iPod touch to apple last week, and they have sent it back saying replacment has been refused, due to accdental damaga or abuse, it shows on the ipod a sticker with an arrow pointing to the dock connector.
I sent my iPod to apple last week for them to repair it as the backlight fluid must have popped and leaked inside the iPod which caused it to go really hot and burn my fingers, (no joke, apple sent it back with the arrow at the dock connector.
Before i sent the iPod in i tried to restore it in itunes, tried to charge it, and tried to charge it through a dock. they all worked fine, but it just wouldn't restore in itunes. so i sent it to apple for them to fix, but they sent it back.
Now then, they sent it back, and i can't get any of it to work when i plug in the Cable, it wont detect in itunes, or charge.
It seems like i have a faulty dock connector, but i sent my iPod in before because of this and they replaced it fine, But now they are saying it is out of warranty.
Even though my first iPod touch doesn't go out of warranty until boxing day.
I dont know what im trying to get at, but doesn't it make the dock connector not fit for purpose? and what happens if it ignites itself again?
Have any of you guys had faulty dock connectors?

Backlight fluid? The best of my knowledge, there is no liquid in an iPod. However, if you feel that Apple should take another look, I'd suggest that you make an appointment at the Genius Bar at your nearest Apple Store and explain the situation to them in person.
