Unibody clicking underneath, faulty MacBook Pro?

Hi,
I have a 2 month old 15" unibody MacBook Pro, and when I press on the underside of the unibody case (in one area) it gives-in a bit... and makes a clicking noise (kinda like a high-pitched tick). Doesn't sound right, and doesn't happen in any other place.
Does it happen for you too? How can this be fixed? It seems something is loose. I still have warranty.
It seems to be limited to the area marked by the red circle in the image below - and doesn't click under trackpad, or keyboard. Here's where it is from the bottom:
And to give you perspective, a view from the top:

You can't possibly be serious I mean I know you are since you've just mentioned ..but wow ..
Your cooling performance degrades exponentially over time because of dust buildup at the fans and exhaust blades ..

You should periodically clean your fans and fan blades ..it's crucial to your machines health.I can't express this more

  • Lion: secondary click fail on macbook pro

I just installed Lion on my MacBook Pro 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB ram.  I have lost the right click function on my track pad.  In System Prefs/TrackPad, I have clicked the radio button for Secondary Click, but it won't stay on. Any ideas?

  • Is it better to press click the new Macbook Pro trackpads near the bottom?

It feels easier to push down to click at the bottom of the trackpad, and seems to get harder the further you go towards the top. Is this normal?

i just bought my macbook pro and im wondering.. when you push on the left side part of the bottom shell, is it suppose to make a cracking sound a little?
I would say no to your question.  The bottoms are secured by mulitple screws and there are also a couple of areas on the bottom tray that "snap" into the upper unibody.  Maybe try removing the bottom tray and reinstalling.  It could just be that one of the areas that is susposed to snap into place did not do so during the original install.
There is some "flex" to the lower tray in the more central areas and if you press on it there is a little bit of movement in some areas where there is nothing directly over the tray but mine does not make any kind of "cracking" noises and is very solidly in place with no give or flex near the edges.

  • Secondary click in Lion, Macbook Pro 4,1

I have an early 2008 macbook pro (Macbook Pro 4,1).
In Lion, the only way to right-click is using ctrl+click. If I select "Secondary click" in System Preferences/Trackpad, it gets automatically un-selected when I exit System Preferences. This is very frustrating. Any idea how to fix it?

Add my name to the list. This happens with ALL 15" Macbook Pros 4,1.
The 17" Macbook Pro 4,1 is immune, and the 13" Macbook Pro didn't exist at the time.
I work for a University, thus we got Lion early for testing purposes. It was obvious on July 1st that this was an issue, and so we posted on the developer forums about it. Got several replies from other developers with the same laptops that have the same issue, but no official response from Apple.
Bought Lion for my personal laptop today (which happens to also be a 15" MBP 4,1), and the issue still exists.
So, I should think Apple is aware of it by now. Hopefully it is fixed in the first round of bug fixes.

  • Clicking sound in MacBook Pro?

Ive 2.0dual core MacBook Pro since March and just last week there started to be a loud clicking sound of something spinning in the top right corner, close to the speaker. I am assuming it is a fan because it is constantly clicking at a fast frequency. Has there been any talk of this problem before? ANd if so is there a fix or do i have to bring it to a Store?

I have had a new C2D macbook for a couple of months and over the last few days have noticed the "kurik" clicking sound. As always you can be assured that a quick search of discussions will turn up threads relating to your concern. I know that this is an old thread but thought it appropriate to post here.
Initially, I was concerned as this clicking was reminiscent of the sound made by dying HD's in several iPods I have owned. However, it is not persistent and if I watch activity monitor each click is usually associated with a short burst of writing activity. If I sit and let the macbook idle, the clicking becomes less frequent. Disk utility showed that the SMART status was 'verifed' and not 'failing.' I would go along with the notion that this is disk management going on in the background - perhaps spotlight or some other kernel task.
As to why I have just noticed it after several weeks, it may be that I have been in quieter environments and the clicking have always been there. As I am writing, the clicking has disappeared. Nonetheless, I will ensure that my home folder and my added applications are backed-up frequently, just in case.
Has anyone actually reported a HDD failure in new macbooks?

  • Clicking Noise in Macbook Pro...

    Hello there!
I bought a 17'  Macbook Pro over summer 2011, it was fine until the night of the Solar Flare and now, left of the mousepad/trackpad, there is a constant clicking noise. It never stops. Should I be concerned? I do not want to send it to be repaired. Is there something I can do by taking the back off of it? Sending it across the country is not very appealing to me...

Yes you should be concerned.  Left of the trackpad is your HDD.  Backup your data immediately.  A HDD should be very quiet with no clicking sounds.
Open Disk Utility>First Aid.  Follow the instructions.  If you cannot correct the problem with Disk Utility, get a replacement HDD and install it.  The instructions are in your user manual. (Easier than sending away across the country and also consider one with larger capacity)
If you find you need instructions on transferring the software and data, you can create a new post when the time comes.
    Ciao.

  • Does Apple replace faulty MacBook Pro with retina in Asia?

I bought a MacBook Pro with retina display in July 2012. Recently my MBPr developed some issues. I feel like something moves (or slides to and fro) inside the Mac when I take out the computer from the bag and hold it in my hand. I don't know whether I have been able to explain the issue as I'm not a native English speaker. I contacted the retailer I bought the Mac from. They told me they can only change the faulty parts if there are any, but they cannot replace the Mac for a new one because  Apple does not replace any Mac in Asia. The prerogative is only in Asia, Europe, Australia and the US. Is it really the case? If things turn out that Apple cannot make good on its warranty without replacing the Mac what shall they do in that case? Could you pls explain?

As best I know, after 14 days Apple will repair your MBP if it is within the warranty period for free.  In rare instances, if they have not been able to repair it after several attempts, they may replace it.  I suggest contacting Apple and ship your MBP to the for inspection/repair or bring it to an Apple store or an Apple reseller.
    Ciao.

  • Clicking sound on MacBook Pro

I have been hearing a clicking/vibrating sound coming from my MacBook Pro for about a week.  Does anyone know what it could be and should I be worried?

Common symptoms of a dying hard drive
Hard drive is making a clicking, whirring, grinding, ping pong ball noise or any other type of unusual noises.
    Hard drive is not spinning.
Computer is not recognizing the hard drive.
    Sluggish loading of applications.
    System freezes and hangs.

  • Cannot single click when waking macbook pro

lately when waking my macbook pro, mountain lion, 10.8.2, the trackpad will move the mouse around but for 3 or more minutes it is impossible to single click the screen. any ideas why this is happening or how to fix

well, the sad news is that although there are thousands of people with this issue, Apple is NOT going to recall the computers and fix them. This is particularly bad news for me as I am part of a team that is working with the poor in a devastated area of the Philippines and I cannot afford to get a replacment.
I don't know what I am going to do when my Macbook will not wake up anymore....
If anyone has news or suggestions on how to get help from Apple, please forward it to me

  • Clicking sound in MacBook Pro Retina

I'm trying to work out why my new MacBook Pro 15 inch retina laptop is making a clicking sound.  It sounds like it's comming from the top right hand side of the keyboard.  Other forum threads have suggested that this sound is related to a Sudden Motion Sensor but my laptop has a SSD so according to apple does not have a SMS.
I am starting to think that it is a noise related to switching between onboard and discrete graphics?  It occurs seemingly at random but the most common time is when waking from sleep.  I have also noticed that when it fails to wake from sleep - not a good thing to have happen on a brand new computer - it does not make the sound.
There isn't an apple store within 800km of me so it's a little difficult to get help from a genius with this.

  • Enable Right Click, Vista 64, MacBook Pro.

Hello everyone. I recently installed Windows Vista 64bit Business edition on my Early 2008 MacBook Pro. Everything seems to be working so far, but I'm unable to get right-click working. I've tried CTRL-click, FN-CTRL-click, and every other combination under the sun. Boot Camp 2.1 is installed, with all the correct drivers, without error. I don't see any options for mouse or trackpad in the Boot Camp control panel. Any advice/assistance would be appreciated... thanks!

An alternative to this is a two-finger tap on the trackpad, but this is switched off by default. Go to Control Panel->Boot Camp->Trackpad tab, and switch the two-finger right-click (tap) on from there.

  • Faulty Macbook Pro, crashing twice per day!

    Hi guys!
im having hard time here with my pro,
at least twice per day it crashes, 90% of the time it just stop, the sound goes on loop, and the only way to recover it is to keep the start button until it turns off. 10% of the times the screen goes black and appears the error message that suggest to restart the system.
once i went trought the errors of the kernel panic but i wasnt able to find what it was,
    any suggestion??

I am also guessing you are using the 9600M GT graphics card? Try switching over to the 9400M if you don't need the additional power. It reduces temps dramatically and I have yet to experience a thermal shutdown with the 9400M enabled. Take the macbook pro into an apple store or CERTIFIED Apple Registered Technician and have the heatsink reseated onto the CPU. This should allow for better heat transfer from the CPU to the heatsink, and overall reducing your overheating problem.

  • Faulty Macbook Pro 15" body

    Hello everyone,
not sure if this is happening with many Macbooks Pro but when Im closing the display, the gap between the display and main body isn't the same on either sides of my laptop. It seems like it might be problem with the hinge or maybe the body have got deformed?? Not sure, whether I should take it to Apple store.
Just to clear things up, I never dropped it or anything like it.
Here are some photos I took of it:

    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

Take it to an Apple Store or AASP and ask to have it adjusted.
