Unibody MBP 17" - Open lid to black screen or restart

Every 3rd or 4th time I attempt to wake my MBP from sleep by opening the lid, the machine is either 1) Unresponsive (can hear fans - still running but no key response) and have to force reboot, or 2) It suddenly reboots on its own.
Searching previous topics on this and other forums shows a relatively large number of folks with symptom #1, few with symptom #2, all with previous gen MBPs. In any case, I couldn't find an example of someone resolving it (other than sending to Apple).
What I've tried: Reset SMC, Zap P-RAM, Repaired permissions, hardware test (OK), Disk Utility repair (OK), Removed some apps & startup items, etc.
Has anyone had this problem? Found a resolution? Otherwise, it looks like I might be without my computer while it is in for repair...

When closing the lid to sleep your MBP, do you leave it sitting in place until you see the LED light on the front start pulsating? If you grab it and carry it off right after closing the lid, you may interrupt the Safe Sleep process (writing RAM contents to the hard disk) - that can take up to a minute depending on how much RAM you have installed.

Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Displays.
System Preferences can also be found in the Hard drive -> Applications folder.
Resetting the PRAM can help bring displays back to factory settings if you can't find what you need:

A 2nd copy of firefox opens with a black screen when opening Firefox

After Firefox loads with the home pages, a second copy of Firefox also opens with one black screen. The black screen has the same url as the 1st tab in the 1st copy of Firefox, with one addition as follows:
1st copy, 1st tab url: www.newsmax.com
2nd copy (no tabs) url: www.newsmax.com/mainpop.htm
I'm using Windows XP, sp3, and Firefox version 10.0.1.
It does the same on another desktop with Windows 7, same Firefox version(10.0.1).

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the sessionstore.js [2] file and possible sessionstore-##.js [3] files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

Fire fox opens as a black screen

After an auto update Firefox now opens as a black screen.

Mozilla has released a Firefox 33.0.1 update that fixes the black screen problem, so you should [[Update Firefox to the latest version|update Firefox to the latest version]].
If you can't use the Firefox menus, you can download and install the latest version of Firefox using Internet Explorer or another browser. Just go to https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ and choose the installer for your language.

X505 Q880 Black screen auto-restarts in Game

Hi everyone! I got this laptop X505 Q880 a couple of months ago and it was all wonderfully working fine until a week ago where it randomly restarts during a game. No warnings.. Nothing.. Just goes to a black screen and restarts with the unexpected shut down error after the restart. I have looked everywhere on the forums and I see a lot of "similar" problems with different "solutions" posted. Even though I haven't found anything on this particular model (the X505 Q880) I have tried many ways of fixing it but to no avail. I have guessed it's a big problem for many and it seems that even different models have this problem.
It restarts by it self without any warnings. Like some posts it doesn't have any error messages... I don't need to press the power button (as it turns back on) It restarts in 5 mins in to all the games I play. It only restarts when it's plugged in the AC. When I play on battery power it will run perfectly fine until it drains the battery power. I hear it's a problem with the graphics card, or it's the motherboard, or it's a driver problem, or something to do with the AC adaptor.
But which one is the real the problem??!?! And is there anyway I can fix it myself? Because I have just moved across the sea to a whole new country where I can't contact the Toshiba Customer Services.. And this cost me more than my plane tickets.... And I can't afford to buy another one...
Someone please advise me, and hopefully there is a solution out there somewhere... That actually works...

Nah, it's not funny. What a waste of money....At least money can be replaced...
But what f***** waste of precious time...
I've arranged to repair it tomorrow at a repair service place here in London recommended by the Toshiba guys here. Even though I bought it in the States it has a Limited International Warranty so should be good. Will post up after the repair and hopefully find a solution for others IF they can fix it that is. Fingers crossed.

I have purchased an app from the store used it for a few days , now it won't open properly .its just a black screen with a circle in bottom right corner with a 1x in it . Anyone know how I can re open this please as I need this app urgent thanks

From the home screen, double click the home button to bring up the Recently used App list. Find the App with the problem and hold your finger on it untl the Apps start to shake. When that happens tap on the (x) on the right side corner of the app to close it.
Tap the home button again to get back to the home screen, and try to open the App again.
If that doesn't work, try resetting the iPad. (there should be no data loss):
Press and Hold the Power and home buttons until the Apple Logo shows up. Ignore any sliders that may appear.
When the iPad turns back on, try opening the App again.

Help MBP randomly gives me a black screen, I have to restart every time.

My MBP has all the sudden started to throw a black screen at me. i have to restart my MBP every time this happens. I have tried doing a fresh install and starting fresh and this doesn't help, I've even installed every app one at a time and tried to figure it out. please help!!!!!!! this computer is literally holding all the Info I need for school and work. Any knew advise would be amazing!!!!!!

Firefox is opening to a black screen and I can not access any menu options to reset it. Can I reset it from the application on my desktop?

I am using Windows 7 and have never had a problem with Firefox. When I tried to open yesterday, after using all day, opened to black screen (grey panel across top of screen). I shut computer down and restarted it and is still not working. If I uninstall will I loose bookmarks and other saved information?

15"MBP(late 2011): Bootcamp Issue - Black screen on reboot

Hi,
Im running into this issue that I can't fix no matter what I do.
I run bootcamp assistant to attempt to install windows 7 (even though I tried with win xp and another win 7 dvd with the same result) when I click "Start Installation" and my computer reboots it goes straight to a black screen with a blinking cursor at the top left and then nothing. I've left it for hours and nothing happens.
I searched for people who had a similar issue and tried what they've suggested. I've tried fixing the drive in disk utility, removing the windows partiton and creating it again, reseting the smc, reseting the pram and still I get the black screen.
Im am using an external optical drive.
I hope somebody can help me.

If Boot Camp Assistant won’t open because you haven’t updated your firmware or system software Boot Camp requires that you have Mac OS X v10.5 or later, and the latest firmware, installed on your computer. Some computers may require more than one firmware update.
To update your computer’s system software:
1 From the Apple menu, choose Software Update. 2 If an update for Mac OS X appears in the list, select it. 3 Click Install.

Iphoto has thumbnails but when opened goes to black screen

i can see thumbnail photos in iphoto but when opened it turns to a black screen. Also problems in you tube with videos can hear but again black screen

What version of iPhoto and system are you running?
Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
iPhoto 8 (09) and earlier- run the options indicated
iPhoto 9 (11) and later- run Option #4 to RebuildDatabase followed by #1 to Repair Permissions.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager (iPhoto 8 or earlier or IPhoto 11 and later) and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the
File ➙ Rebuild Library (iPhoto 8 or earlier)
or
Library ➙ Rebuild Library (iPhoto 9 or later)
menu option to rebuild the library.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

I have thoroughly (I think) read the other posts / questions regarding this issue. Like others, I'm experience a completely black screen when opening the new version of Firefox. I can't do (or click on) anything...and it won't open in safe mode.
I'm not very tech-savvy...but I did manage to get to the point where I had Intel do an auto-check to see about updating the graphics card (which was the other recommended fix).
I have a four-year-old Lenovo ThinkPad, BTW. I got the following message:

I cannot download MP3 files, whenever i click the link to download the MP3 files opens in firefox itself with no seprate dialogue box to download...it opens in a black screen and i am unable to download it

i have a php site. i am able to download mp3 files on localhost. after uploading on hosting server, i am able to download on IE, chrome. but mozilla gives a garbage file. instead of music file.
