Unicode in UNICHAR and UNICODE Excel Functions Is Decimal

CASE # 12 64 08 79 83
Dear Microsoft Engineers,
There is a lack of information in  Microsoft Support pages*, where UNICODE and  UNICHAR in Excel 2013 are out of real context, given that unicode is always hexadecimal.
Please add a notice on these pages about the fact that these Excel functions process decimal unicodes.  You might also add a hint to use HEXDEC and DECHEX conversion when working with UNICHAR and UNICODE.
Please note that low decimal unicodes equal ASCII.  To highlight the new performance, you'd better take some other examples.
I need UNICHAR in my Excel developement tool related to a Unicode-using application (MSKLC).
I contacted Microsoft Support by phone today and got the above case ID.
Best regards,
Marcel Schneider
P.S.:  My first post noted these functions to be ASCII.  So I am sorry not to have considered the system (whether it is hexadecimal, or decimal!).
* Note:  I was not allowed to post this with hyperlinks to the Support Pages.  Links are the following:

  • Is Unicode Bangla Fonts and Unicode Bangla Keyboards are compatible with Mac OS 10.4.11?

    Hi,
Please let me know if those are compatible with my MB.
I also need to know the process or method of removing or uninstalling the bangla fonts and keyboards from the system. Please guide me.
I deleted few files in removing the fonts and keyboard layout, but the Unijoy and Rapali layouts remain in the input source. Is that gonna clash if i reinstall the fonts and keyboard layout again.
After removing the fonts and keyboard layout, I opened the preference pane, then i checked the box from the input menu, then i opened the MS Word to see if the fonts and layouts are removed properly or not, i thought i won't be able to type, but i was wondering that what files i removed.
Actually I was facing trouble in typing the Conjunct bangla words since the installations, conjunct words not working as per the typing guide says. That's why i tried to remove it and install again. Now i am confused.
I look forward to your help.
Following are the system information that i am using now:

    Hi Omar,
I'm not familiar with hose but try thee steps...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
Then open Fon't Book & Validate all Fonts & check for duplicates.

  • VBA, BAPI BAPI_MATERIAL_GETALL and unicode

    Hello,
I have some Excel functions (VBA) to read materialmaster data via RFC from SAP to Excel using the BAPI BAPI_MATERIAL_GETALL.
Our SAP is a unicode system. When I logon non unicode (CreateObject("SAP.Functions")), I can read all data correct, beside the chinise text. When I logon in unicode mode (CreateObject("SAP.Functions.Unicode")) then I can read the chinise text, but some data like valuation class or production scheduler returns some weird characters.
Any idea how I can avoid this
    regards Iring

Hi Seshu Maramreddy , and All,
<b>BAPI_MATERIAL_GET_DETAIL</b> is used to get the single record when we pass material no. but my requirement is get the all the record from material master without any condition i mean without passing the material no.
    The same with <b>BAPI_CUSTOMER_GETDETAIL2</b>.
Now u can ask me to use the loop and call the BAPI but i cant do this because i have thousands of material and that is other R/3 system not is local R/3 system.
    I got 2 more BAPI's
    BAPI_MATERIAL_DISPLAY
    BAPI_CUSTOMER_DISPLAY.
I think this BAPI's also use to display only one record at a time.

  • Windows API ANSI version and UNICODE version

    Windows API have two version:
    ANSI version and UNICODE.
I want to display chinese, so i use the UNICODE version. but i find it's some mistake.
and later,  i change to ANSI version, it's correct.
why the ANSI version can display chinese, and UNICODE can't.
    i use the api function
    FindWindowA
    GetWindowTextA
    who can tell me?

    I understand Vista is a 32 bit.
IE 8 is what I have but I would consider IE 9 if that would be necessary.
Just a bit more update. I just tried to download Adobe FP 10 again with the following results, again:
The Adobe Download Manager windows shows:
FP 10.3 Status as 100% "Installation Pending".
FP 10.2 Status as 100% " Instatlling Application"
and that will go one forever but never really actually installs anything and just keeps cycling through the "Add to Download" e.g. "Fanbase", "Times Reader"
and "Adobe Air" (none of which I want added to the download), and the download and installation shows as 100%.
    Go figure!

  • Tables, Interfaces to Unicode - Need Info and/or Tutorials

    Hi,
I need information and/or tutorials on moving Tables, and Interfaces to Unicode (at least 1 of those is fine.)
All responses will be greatly appreciated and rewarded.
    Thanks,
    John

    ABAP Development under Unicode
Prior to Unicode the length of a character was exactly one byte, allowing implicit typecasts or memory-layout oriented programming. With Unicode this situation has changed: One character is no longer one byte, so that additional specifications have to be added to define the unit of measure for implicit or explicit references to (the length of) characters.
Character-like data in ABAP are always represented with the UTF-16 - standard (also used in Java or other development tools like Microsoft's Visual Basic); but this format is not related to the encoding of the underlying database.
A Unicode-enabled ABAP program (UP) is a program in which all Unicode checks are effective. Such a program returns the same results in a non-Unicode system (NUS) as in a Unicode system (US). In order to perform the relevant syntax checks, you must activate the Unicode flag in the screens of the program and class attributes.
In a US, you can only execute programs for which the Unicode flag is set. In future, the Unicode flag must be set for all SAP programs to enable them to run on a US. If the Unicode flag is set for a program, the syntax is checked and the program executed according to the rules described in this document, regardless of whether the system is a US or a NUS. From now on, the Unicode flag must be set for all new programs and classes that are created.
If the Unicode flag is not set, a program can only be executed in an NUS. The syntactical and semantic changes described below do not apply to such programs. However, you can use all language extensions that have been introduced in the process of the conversion to Unicode.
As a result of the modifications and restrictions associated with the Unicode flag, programs are executed in both Unicode and non-Unicode systems with the same semantics to a large degree. In rare cases, however, differences may occur. Programs that are designed to run on both systems therefore need to be tested on both platforms.
    Other Changes
    1.     Bit Statements
    2.     Adding Field Sequences
    3.     Loops with VARY and VARYING
    4.     Creating Subroutines
    5.     Saving Programs
    6.     Assigning Types for GET/SET PARAMETER
    7.     Unreachable Statements
    8.     Function Modules with Incorrect Parameter Names
    1. Bit Statements
Previously, the system checked for the bit statements SET BIT i OF f [TO g] and GET BIT i OF f [INTO g]whether the field f is character-type; X fields, X strings, and flat structures are usually regarded as character-type. For Unicode programs this is no longer useful, because the types X and XSTRING no longer count as character-type and the bit by bit access to character-type fields or structures is no longer platform-independent. Therefore, with these operations in Unicode programs, the field f must be type X or XSTRING.
For the bit mask operations f O x, f Z x, and f M x you could previously use all number-type and hence all character-type types for the left operand f. In Unicode programs, the f operand must now be type X or XSTRING.
    2. Adding Field Sequences
When adding field sequences, restrictions apply to the following statements in Unicode:
    ADD n1 THEN n2 UNTIL nz [ ACCORDING TO sel ] GIVING m ...
    ADD n1 THEN n2 UNTIL nz TO m [ RANGE str ].
    1.     The operands n1, n2, and nz must be type-compatible with one another.
    2.     The distance between nz and n1 must be an integral multiple of the distance between n2 and n1.
    3.     A syntax or runtime error occurs if the fields n1, n2, and nz are not in a structure. This structure must be recognizable statically or its valid area must be marked explicitly using the RANGE addition.
    4.     At runtime, the system ensures that the RANGE area is not left.
    ADD n1 FROM i1 GIVING m [ RANGE str ].
    1.     Field n1 must be within the structure. The structure must be explicitly defined using the RANGE addition if it is not recognizable statically.
    2.     For this variant, the system also checks at runtime whether n1 and the addressed values are within the structure.
    3. Loops
Loops with the VARY or VARYING addition are also problematic in Unicode, since a type-a access to memory contents cannot be ensured and memory can be overwritten inadvertently.
    DO ... VARYING f FROM f1 NEXT f2.
For this statement, the fields f, f1, and f2 must be type-compatible with each other. To prevent memory contents being overwritten, a RANGE for valid accesses is introduced implicitly or explicitly for the following statements:
    DO ... TIMES VARYING f FROM f1 NEXT f2 [ RANGE f3 ].
    WHILE ... VARY f FROM f1 NEXT f2       [ RANGE f3 ].
A syntax or runtime error is caused if f1 or f2 are not included in f3. If the RANGE addition is missing, it is defined implicitly from FROM f1 NEXT f2 as follows:
    1.     If both f1 and f2 are statically recognizable components of the same structure, the valid RANGE area is defined from the smallest structure that comprises f1 and f2.
    2.     A syntax error is triggered if it is recognizable statically that f1 and f2 are not part of the same structure.
    3.     A valid area must be defined explicitly using the RANGE addition if the connection between f1 and f2 is not recognizable statically.
If you specify a deep structure as the RANGE addition, the system checks for every loop pass that there are no field references, object references, tables, or strings in the area read.
    4. Creating Subroutines
When automatically generating subroutines using the statement GENERATE SUBROUTINE POOL itab NAME name, the generated program inherits the content of the Unicode flag of the generating program.
    5. Saving Programs
When automatically generating programs using the statement INSERT REPORT prog FROM itab, default values are set for the TRDIR entry as before. Amongst other things, this statement has the new addition UNICODE ENABLING uc, with which the Unicode flag of the inserted report receives the value of uc. If this addition is missing, the following applies:
    1.     A Unicode program creates a Unicode program.
    2.     A non-Unicode program in turn creates a non-Unicode program.
    3.     A non-Unicode program becomes a Unicode program if it is overwritten by a Unicode program.
    4.     A Unicode program remains a Unicode program if it is overwritten by a non-Unicode program.
    6. Assigning Types for GET/SET PARAMETER
For the statements GET PARAMETER ID pid FIELD f and GET PARAMETER ID pid FIELD f, f must be character-type. You can use the EXPORT and IMPORT statements for storing non-character-type fields and structures.
    7. Unreachable Statements
In Unicode programs, unreachable statements cause a syntax error. In non-Unicode programs, there was previously only a syntax warning.
    8. Function Modules with Incorrect Parameter Names
In Unicode programs, calling a function module, whose parameter names are specified statically as a literal or constant, causes an exception that can be handled if an incorrect parameter name was specified. This only applies to function modules that are not called via Remote Function Call. In non-Unicode programs, an incorrect name was previously ignored.

  • Combined Upgrade and Unicode conversion of Sap 4.6C to ECC6.0

    Hello all,
my project team intends to carry out a combined upgrade and unicode conversion of an SAP ERP 4.6C system with MDMP to ECC6.0 (no enhancement package). The system is running on Oracle 10.2.
In preparation for this upgrade, I have gone through the SAP notes 928729, 54801.
We need to get a rough estimate of the entire downtime so as to alert our end users. From the CU&UC documentation in 928729, I read up note 857081. However the program in this note cannot be used to estimate the downtime as my system is < SAP netweaver 6.20.
Is there any other SAP note or tool or program that I can use to estimate the downtime for the entire CU&UC? Thanks a lot!

    Hi,
Combined upgrade depend upon number of factors like database size, resources on the server and optimization. In order to get idea of how much downtime, it will take, I would suggest you to do combined upgrade and unicode conversion on sandbox system which should be the replica of your production system. And try to optimize it. From there you can get approx. downtime required.
Also, please read combined upgrade and unicode conversion guides on  http://service.sap.com/unicode@sap
    Thanks
    Sunny

    Use the default parser.
By default, WebLogic Server is configured to use the default parser and transformer to parse and transform XML documents. The default parser and transformer are those included in the JDK 5.0.
The built-in WebLogic Server DOM factory implementation class is com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl.
The DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance method returns the built-in parser.
    DocumentBuilderFactory dbf = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();

  • How to install and use the Khmer unicode Khmer MEF1 and Khmer MEF2?

How to install and use the Khmer unicode Khmer MEF1 and Khmer MEF2?
from www.mef.gov.kh in the bottom of the page, you can get the unicode for the ms office

I think that stuff is for windows, a waste of time trying to use it on a Mac.
There is no need to download anything for Khmer on a Mac.  Apple provides Khmer fonts and keuyboards with OS X.
OS X Mountain Lion: Type in another language
MS Word for Mac does not support Khmer.  Use TextEdit, Pages, Nisus Writer, LibreOffice instead

  • 4.7EEx1.10 to ECC6.0 upgrade and Unicode conversion

    Hi Experts,
We are going to initiate the upgrade from next month onwards. Subsequently i have started preparing the plan and strategy for the same.
As our current setup is 4.7EEx110/Win 2003 R2-64 bit/Oracle 10.2.0.4.0 (Non unicode). And we have recently migrated on to this setup from WIn2k 32 bit. Also the current hardware is Unicode compatible.
With respect to strategy for achieving this Upgrade and Unicode conversion, i am planning as follows.
Step 1) Perform Unicode conversion on the current landscape (Both Export/import on the same servers)
Step 2) Setup Temporary landscape as part of Dual maintenance strategy and migrate data from the current systems to temporary systems using backup/restore method.
Step 3) Perform the SAP version upgrade on the current landscape and setup transport routes from temporary to current landscape in order to keep it in sync
Step 4) after successful upgrade, decommission the temporary landscape
Please provide your suggestions and valuable advices if there is anything wrong with my strategy and execution plan.
    Regards,
    Dheeraj

    Hi,
Thanks. As i have already referred these notes as i am seeking advise with respect to my upgrade approach.
However i have planned to perform in the following manner.
    1) Refresh Sandbox with Prod data and perform Upgrade to ECC6.0 EHP5 & subsequently Unicode conversion on the same server (Since both export & Import has to perform on the same hardware as we have recently migrated on this hardware which is Unicode compatible)
    2) Setup temporary landscape for DEv & QAs and establish transport connection to Production system in order to move urgent changes
    3) Keep a track of the changes which have transported during upgrade phase so that the same can be implemented in the upgraded systems i.e. Dev & QAS
    4) After Sandbox Migration and signoff, we will perform Dev & QAS upgrade & unicode conversion on the same hardware (Note: Since these are running on VMware can we export the data from the upgraded system and import on to a new VM?)
    5) Plan for production cutover and Upgrade the Prod system to ECC6.0 Ehp5 and then Unicode conversion. As i am planning to perform upgrade over the weekend and then Unicode conversion activity in the next weekend (Is it a right way?)
My Production setup: DB on one Physical host and CI on separate Virtual host
    6) After the stabilization phase, we are planning for OS & DB upgrade as follows:
          a) Windows upgrade from 2003 R2 to Windows 2008 R2
          b) Oracle Upgrade from 10.2 to 11.2
If anyone thinks that there is anything wrong with my above approach and need changes then please revert.
I have one more doubt as I am going to upgrade 4.7EEx110 (WAS 620, Basis SP64) to ECC6.0 EHp5.As I presume that I can straight away upgrade from the current version to ECC6.0 Ehp5 without installing EHP. Kindly confirm
    Thanks

  • Excel function and ev function not working in static column key

I have created a evdre report and I notice that  when I tried to use any excel function and ev functions in the static column key cell to get the value for that cell, it's not working.
e.g I have Col key define as:
    ColKeyRange  Sheet!&$J$12:$N$14
In K13 which is key id for time. I define is as = $K$10 where K10 is the time value from current view, it not working, the value is still K13 = $K$10. then I tried to use EVCVW function to replace K10, it also not working, but I use the same function in the description of the ID underneath, both of the are working, Any thought?
Edited by: DFW on Feb 9, 2010 7:33 PM

    Hi,
That was exactly what I meant. They just dont work on the green ID areas or the yellow data region. Few days back even I tried that, but didnt work. So, I followed the different approach. I dont remember about the dynamic templates. Are you sure that the functions were written in the green ID region?
I remember this used to work fine in the MS version. However, in the NW version, even I am not able to make them work.

  • Combined Upgrade and Unicode conversion question

    Hello Everyone,
I will be performing combined Upgrade and Unicode conversion soon. Currently i have run Prepare and do not have any errors.
I have already run SPUMG consistency check and i do not have any errors there. Since this is Combined Upgrade and unicode conversion according to guide i do not need to do the Nametab conversion right now. But now if i go this place:
SPUMG -> Status -> Additional Information  , i see a status with red for Unicode nametabs are not consistent or not up-to-date.
Please let me know if i can ignore this step and do the nametab conversion after upgrade is complete and before unicode conversion.
    Thanks,
    FBK

Please follow the instructions from the guides.
The Unicode nametabs will be generated automatically during the upgrade.
An additional check is integrated into the final preparation steps in the target releases.

  • Applications of BexGetData and other BW\Excel functions

    Hello all!
We've recently upgraded to BI7 and I'm interested in the BW\Excel functions.
Iu2019ve tried to create a blank workbook, assign a data provider, and then use the BexGetData function but it gives me the value #NV. Is the formula directly related to any analysis item thatu2019s in the same workbook?
If the above is possible, or anyone could link me to some in depth documentation to how this and the other formulas work Iu2019d be very grateful!
Iu2019ve seen the brief bit on the SAP page about the BexGetData function by the way; it doesnu2019t answer my question or give much information!
    All the best,
    Rhys

    Thanks for the quick reply.
I managed to work out how to get the key figures to show as bexgetdata formula's through converting to formula mode, but I'm more interested in what other things I can use this for.
Can you reference multiple info providers in bexgetdata formula's in one sheet?
Ideally I'd like to be able to create a highly formatted workbook that uses just a blank worksheet with a few data providers assigned. I'd then do something like this:
    Team's New Sales    =bexgetdata("New Sales Info",Subtotal 3,New)
    Team's Renewal Sales =bexgetdata("Renewal Sales Info Provider,"Subtotal 3", Renewal)
Also how does the bexgetdata formula relate to the analysis grid. Do you have to have one? Can you only reference characteristics which are showing in an analysis grid?
Finally the link you sent me was helpful, but doesn't explain any of the other BW\Excel formula's. Does SAP not support these with any documentation that's vaguely usable?
    Cheers,
    Rhys

  • Does Numbers support Excel functions CELL, SUBSTITUTE, and REDIRECT?

Been trying to find the list of Excel-compatible functions but did not succeed. I would like to use Numbers to edit my Excel files in iPad. I often generate reports by pulling data out from a seperate sheet using Excel functions like CELL, SUBSTITUTE, and REDIRECT. I have not purchased Numbers yet, that is why I would like to know where I find the complete list of Excel-compatible functions or at least know if Numbers support these functions.  Thank you in advance.

Numbers does support the function substitute()
I did not see the functions cell() and redirect() in the function browser.
