UNIDENTIFIED DEVELOPER
Hei!
I downloaded a program, but when i try to open it, i get a pop up that says: this program can´t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer. your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac app store and identified developers.
How can i change these preferences?

Apple Menu > System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General tab.
And obviously, be sure you trust the site where you download from. I only allow that for very specific downloads directly from the developer's site and then I change the Preference back.

I am downloading the memory card from my camcorder into my MacBook Pro with Retina display. It usually popped to the file called AVCHD then CLIP to show all the videos. But not this time, it automatically changed to BDMV. I do not have idea how this happened while I left my notebook on and I was away for a couple of hours then back to the living room to work on each video as to type name of file etc.
Now, I cannot even open them into CLIP because I am still getting BDMV with a popped sign that said BDMV can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer. (I do not even understand what this is supposed to mean??) also with the bottom message that stated "Quicktime Player created this file yesterday at 1:52pm" I am like uhhh how can QT player do this without my authorization??
Please help me how to solve these and get all of my videos back that I saved in my camcorder. Let you know that I tried to insert the memory card back into my camcorder and all these videos are gone. Now I am having a HUGE headache because of this!!

Did you ever figure out how to get them back? The same thing happened to me yesterday. I was able to open the file in VLC media player (you can download this app), but the file had been corrupted. It was only the last clip I had recorded, all the others were lost. Even the clip that will play is messed up -

Ctrl (right) click the file & choose 'Open' - then follow the prompts if you want to trust it.

1. If you just want to run one application, control-click it and choose Open instead of changing the setting. This only needs to be done once per application.
2. Ensure that you trust any software you choose to open in this way.

macjack gave you the easiest solution. Need to have admin privilieges to change this option.

I have just got a new macbook which I would like to download my copy of CS5.5 onto. It doesn't have a disc insertion section section so I downloaded CS5 from the adobe website. However I can't install it because my computer says the installer is from an unidentified developer. Can you help please?
That's Apple OS X's Gatekeeper kicking in.
Control+click the downloaded file and click Open to manually tell OS X that you trust the file and it's OK to open it. -
I downloaded Mail Update for Mac OS X 10.5.6 and was told it could not be installed because it was from an unidentified developer. Tried installing download from MailUpdate & advised the disk did not meet the requirements for update. Expect it's due to being at 10.9.1. Mail is still teetering between dysfunctional and non-functional. Advice?
I'm not sure what "Mail Update for Mac OS X 10.5.6" is. Mac OS X 10.5.6 is Leopard, a system that is quite old at this point. There have not been any Mail updates for Leopard in quite some time. If you are trying to install some old Mail update for Mac OS X 10.5.6 in Mavericks, that won't work.
If you are trying to install the Mavericks Mail update manually, that's not necessary if you have updated through the App Store. If the App Store shows no updates, you don't need this. (The error message doesn't make sense, and may indicate some other problem with your system, assuming that you were downloading this update from Apple's site.)
I'd advise you to start a new topic in the Mavericks forum and describe the problems you are having with Mail. Be sure to include specifics, but try to avoid speculating on causes, as responses that may be related to an inaccurate assumption on your part can cloud the issue. -
texmate and git 1.8.4.2 won't work on OS X Mavericks. I've downloaded them repeatedly and the following errors display "Textmate is damaged and can't be opened" and Git states "can't be opened because it's from an unidentified developer". Please help!

for TextMate, you’ll need to download TextMate 2.0 alpha, since earlier versions of TextMate aren’t supported on Mavericks. The file will be named “nightly”; save it to your desktop. Once the “nightly” file has finished downloading, rename it to “TextMate.app.tar.bz2” — that will give it the “BZ” icon on your desktop. Once it’s been renamed, you can double-click on it, and TextMate.app will appear on your desktop. Use your administrative login to move TextMate.app to your Applications folder.
Regarding the “unidentified developer” message displayed by trying to open git 1.8.4.2, please refer to this Apple page for the workaround. -
I'm trying to download and install the printer dirvers for my Kodak esp 3.2s, but my iMac keeps refusing, stating that : AiOInstaller can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer.
is there any way round this?
