"Unidentified Network" -local access -- when connecting vista 64 bit to WRTP54G router

Windows Vista will not connect to wrtp54g router (9 outta 10 times). States that it is an "Unidentified  Network", and i have no access to the internet, or xbox 360. I cannot enter the router settings either
  There is no problem connecting directly to the modem and then the internet.
Device manager shows no problems with Nvidia network controller.  Xp Pro had no issues connecting to internet or home network.
 I reset the router, no help.  ipconig/release  then- renew -- no help.    (vista has all updates),  Firewall on / off-- no difference
tried another wrtp54g -- same problem
Please Help ?

I got into the interface -- turned off firewall-- allowed local network, but no internet--so no use.  I dont have a wireless card in my desktop -- so didnt connect wirelessly.  Have xbox 360 running on wired connection also -- it has always connect without problems.  No changes in interface cured the problem.
I did try the registry entry fix, givin in another help window - supplied by microsoft-- called "Windows Vista cannot obtain an ip address from certain routers or from certain non-microsoft DHCP servers". (Article ID :928233 - link  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233)--- have rebooted 3 times and has connected and recognized the router every time. Crossing my fingers that its a permanent fix.
Hopes that helps others out there

  • The iTune Remote App has stopped finding my iTunes library when connected to wifi from my main router, but works fine when connected via second wifi router on the same network (different SSID)

    I'm running iTunes Remote App from a couple of iPhone 5's and a first generation iPod Touch. iTunes is running on a PC - Windows 7. My home network runs two Wifi Routers, each with a different SSID. I've had no problems with the Remote app running this set up for the last 8 months but recently the App can only find my iTunes library when the iPhone/iPod is connected via one specific router, when connected to the network via the other router, no iTunes library is found. I'm also running an Apple TV and it's the same as the iTunes Library, only visible via the one SSID.
    Everything else seems to work fine when connected via either router, eg Internet on the iPhones (definitely via wifi)
    I've tried renewing the lease on the iPhone wifi connection, restarting everything.....several times.....
    It used to work fine, this only seems to have been a problem in recent weeks
    Any help or advice would be much appreciated
    Thanks
    Ian

    It turned out to be the firewall settings on our router. Her machine was sending traffic that our router interpreted as a DoS attack and blacklisted her Airport's MAC address. That's why it would work fine if she switched to Ethernet.

  • Can't resolve .local address on Windows Vista 64 bit

    I have Windows Vista 64 bit edition and installed Bonjour 64 bit.
    From my Internet Explorer Bonjour toolbar, I can see my Bonjour device. However, when I try to connect to it, I get a DNS error.
    Any suggestions? I've tried disabling firewalls and antivirus.

    The problem appears to be in 32 bit programs. The 64 bit version of IE can resolve .local addresses, but 32 bit programs can't. I can map a network drive using the address as well.
    Oddly, my version of Safari can "see" the .local device and lists it, but it can't connect because it can't actually resolve the address.

  • Laptop shows "access: local only" when connected to this hotspot

    I have the Verizon Jetpack 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot MHS291L set up in my home environment.  I have a number of computers that are able to connect to it and use the internet.  There is one laptop that I have (Lenovo SL500) which is Vista SP2, that has trouble connecting to the Jetpack.  I went into the Connected Devices settings for the Jetpack and noticed that this particular laptop was in the Blocked Devices section.  I Unblocked the laptop and it then appeared in the Connected Devices section.  Not sure how it got into the Blocked Devices section in the first place.  Anyways, upon trying to connect to the wireless network, I looked at the wireless network connection and it shows "Access:  Local only" instead of "Acess: Local and Internet."  It seems like the laptop connects to wireless, but I cannot browse the internet in any browser.  Also, I have tried this laptop at someone else's house that has a standard wireless router (no hotspot) and the laptop connects fine and is able to browse the internet.

    The network status indicator on Windows products cannot always be trusted.  Windows uses its own algorithm to determine its connectivity by checking a few resources on the web.  In a nutshell if Windows can make it to the resources then it declares itself internet connected or otherwise.  What you should do is your own troubleshooting to determine what is truly going on.
    First step is to check your IP Address.  Windows will display a 169.254.xxx.xxx IP if it is not completely connected to the current router/jetpack.  If that is the case then your laptop has not been accepted onto the router and you should check your connection credentials or recreate your connection profile.
    The next step if you have a normal and good IP address is to manually check the internet by browsing to a website.  Even though your computer cannot communicate the way it wants to that doesn't always mean that all internet communication is having a problem.  You should always try a simple browse to Google or another popular search engine or website when experiencing problems to confirm the scope of the situation.
    Pending on how these first two simple checks go you should proceed one way or another.  Chances are there is a wireless profile conflict on your Vista machine for your Jetpack. The best course of action would be to wipe the wireless profile and start over from scratch.  I'd start here and work my way outwards.

  • "An unidentified error has ocurred" when connecting to mySQL in Dreamweaver MX

    Hi All,
    I've been trying & failing to figure this out for 2 days. I hope someone can help! I installed xampp on my local machine, got the Apache server, phpMyAdmin, and SQL up and running. My next step is to connect to my MySQL database in Dreamweaver MX. This where I'm running into trouble.
    I've given super access rights to several db users in my MySQL database just to be sure that it wasn't a matter of not-enough-permissions. Here is a screenshot of the privileges: http://www.skyebrannon.com/db_privs.jpg
    I am sure my connection information is correct, as I've used it to create a php page that lists my database tables.Those are working just fine Here is my info:
            $dbhost = "localhost";
            $dbuser = "root";
            $dbpass = "dbpassword";
            $dbname = "camin0_music";
    When I put the same information in my MySQL Connection, I get "An unidentified error has occured".
    Here is a screenshot of the error and my (working) connection info:

  • Able to connect ipad 2 to iphone 4s personal hotspot via bluetooth or wifi, but no internet access when connected via wifi.

    I am able to connect my ipad 2 to an iphone 4s personal hotspot via bluetooth or wifi.  The problem is that I only have internet access with a bluetooth connection. Both are running ios 6.1.2 and I have tried to reset both to factory settings. Any suggestions would be reatly appreciated.

    Please don't shout!   Using all uppercase means shouting on the internet.  If your keyboard is stuck please say so, otherwise people will think you are being obnoxious.
    Now the first question is, when you are saying connecting to personal hotspot, have you always been using the iPhone to connect to the internet?   Are you someplace where the only place to connect is available via tethering to the iPhone's celluar network?  Or do you have other options?

  • Can't log in to local user when connected to server

    We used to have 3 local accounts on each of our machines: 2 required a password, and 1 did not.
    Then we hooked up our server and students have been logging into it. We haven't really touched the local accounts since then. Now I need to get access to the local account with no password. I can access it only if I disconnect the machines from the network, but I can't get into it otherwise. I have tried giving the account a password, but it still won't work once I hook back up to the network.
    How can I get access to this account without having to disconnect every time? The other 2 local accounts work with no problem.
    Thanks for any insight!
    Nancy

    You can use SS management studio to connect to DB. What you need to do, is to ensure your connection string is something like
    <connectionStrings>
    <add name="conn2" connectionString="Data Source=192.?.?.?\your_db_instance;Initial Catalog=your_db_schema;Integrated Security=False;User ID=your_db_login;Password=??????" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>
    </connectionStrings>
    within Web.config/app.config file in your project, to ensure the project will work fine with the database.

  • WRT54G: limited LAN access when connected to WAN

    Dear community,
    I am observing a strange behavior with my fresh WRT54G (v 5, latest firmware):
    When the router is connected to the internet via PPPoE, some things just don't work anymore.
    1. I power up my WinXP machine + after the login the machine requests a new DHCP-lease. This process takes about 40 seconds! If I pull the plug to the DSL-modem and repeat the same procedure my WinXP machine gets a lease _instantly_. I would guess that XP tries to get a reply from one or both of the DNS-servers that the router sends along w/ the DHCP-information, but why does it take so long?
    All machines except for the NSLU2 get a dhcp-lease in the range 192.168.0.10 - 192.168.0.20 (255.255.255.0)
    2. Browsing SMB-shares from my NSLU2 (for the first time) takes ages. Seems like XP is trying to resolve something in the background. I wait for about 20 seconds before anything is displayed. The phenomenon does not occur when browsing smb-shares using a mac os x machine.
    3. Xbox MediaCenter cannot connect to the smb-shares on the nslu2 - as long as the WRT54G is connected to the internet. This is not a joke. I disconnect the router from the internet and I can browse my shares again. The problem goes further: If I use any file, say, I stream a movie, the router will not connect to the internet until I disconnect the client.
    4. FTP to a server in the LAN only works in passive mode!
    I thought that maybe I changed some setting on my clients so I hooked up my old cheap router just to find everything working properly again. Unfortunately linksys was not able to help me in this matter (I am still waiting for a response) - all they told me was that this shouldn't be the case because the WRT54G has a plain simple 4-port switch.
    I have tried flashing various firmwares + performing hard-resets + revert to factory settings and starting all over several times.
    I also found out that it doesn't matter wether its wireless or not so bothering with wireless security settings won't help anything.
    Pinging the hosts on the LAN works. All clients can access the internet. It seems odd that I can access the internet and not be able to connect to an internal server, doesn't it?!
    Has anyone had a similar experience? I would greatly appreciate any advice on this.Message Edited by appleholic on 07-05-2006 10:32 AM

    Ok, I seem to have resolved the problem, though I'm not 100% sure how what I did resolved it.
    I returned what appeared to be a defective unit to the store today and exchanged it for a new one. Got the new one home, got it plugged in and powered on and had exactly the same problem. I did notice that like the first unit, when the pings from the internal LAN would fail, the response about the TTL expiring in transit appeared to be coming from 192.168.1.196 which is the IP address assigned to my Linksys RT31P2 which is one of the two Vonage devices on my network (and which also happens to be a router though I'm not using it as such).
    If I disconnected the RT31P2 from my network, the WRVS4400N worked as it should in that I could still ping the internal interface and access the web management pages while it was connected to the WAN. As soon as I plugged the RT31P2 back into my network, the WRVS4400N would exhibit exactly the same behaviour as before (no ping and no access to web management while connected to the WAN).
    I can't recall exactly why but I did have the RT31P2 cabled up kind of weird. I had a cable running from the Internet port on the RT31P2 to one of the LAN ports on it, and had another cable from a switch connected to a second LAN port on the RT31P2. I've since recabled the RT31P2 such that I now have a cable from the switch connected to the Internet port on the RT31P2 and my Vonage line is up, and the WRVS4400N is still working as expected.

  • Network Manager crashes when connecting to wpa wifi

    I am trying to connect to my college's wpa secured wlan using network-manager-applet on a fresh cinnamon installation.  When I click on the secured network in the cinnamon control center, the program crashes.  I connect fine to the unsecured guest network.  I think I may not have all the proper GUI's installed because when i click the "Connect to a Hidden Network" button, the network manager also crashes.
    Did I not install the right software or is this some strange bug?

    Hi,
    I'm not sure if this is useful at all, but i had problems with nm-applet and eduroam(wpa) as well. I first thought it would be due to the latest update, but then remembered that I uninstalled "gnome-keyring" some days ago. Reinstalling it solved my problem.

  • Dynamic partitioned Hard Driver cannot be accessed when connected by USB 3.0 Enclosure

    Hi Guys,
    Here is my issue.
    There is a 2TB SATA Hard Drive, formatted to NTFS with 64KB chunk size blocks. The partition type is dynamic.
    I removed the drive from a system and brought it to another location.
    This time is is connected via USB 3.0 enclosure, which I know it works and it was tried with different hard drives with no issue.
    The Windows is 8.1. It sees the disk but cannot Reactivate it. It shows the reactivate option, but when you select it you see a message:
    Virtual Disk Manager
    This operation is not allowed on the invalid disk pack.
    OK
    I understand that USB dynamic disks might not be supported, but the scenario above is valid.
    My question is how to bring the partition online using USB enclosure?
    Is there a registry workaround or other which involves no data loss?
    It is very pity not to allow using USB 3.0 when you have a dynamic partition. I do not see any physical limitations to do so.
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi,
    As I known, whether the USB enclosure can identify the dynamic hard drive, it depends on the USB driver and USB specification.
    But to make your computer recognize this hard drive well, we have the workaround to change it to basic disk type:

  • Network / external access when booted in single-user mode from install CD?

    So I have this iBook with a semi-functional hard drive: can't boot from it (either normal or single-user), can't use it in Firewire Target Disk mode, can't fix it with Disk Utility, an overnight run with Disk Warrior seemed to be hung, etc, BUT if I boot in single-user mode from the install CD I can then mount it readonly and see at least many of the files on it.
    So now I want to slurp the important ones of those files off of it over the network (or in any other clever way anyone can suggest). I'm not a huge Unix or Darwin expert, so an exact set of commands would be appreciated. *8) A friend suggested to me that I might be able to 'init' it at a 'runlevel' that included the networking stack, but I dunno what that means. *8) Does the CD in fact include a full networking stack? Or anything else that I might be able to use to slurp some data from the hard disk before it gives up entirely?
    Tx very...

    I think Ronda was hoping you had the Tiger Instal DVD, which has a copy of Terminal on it.
    You said earlier that trying to boot into Target Disk Mode didn't work. Would it help you if you could? If so, I can show you how to do it from Single User Mode. I've done it, and it works, although admittedly I did boot into SU mode from my HD, not my Instal Disc (I have tried that, it also works, I just haven't done both together).
    If you can make use of this, post back and tell me what you get from which nvram when you are booted in SU mode from your CD. It's possible that command won't be available on the CD—so we need to check first. If it says "which: no such command", try ls -l /usr/sbin/nvram instead.

    Hi @chuy1 ,
    Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Notebook and issues with the Wireless connection. Here is a document to troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet Windows 8, if you need it.
    Here is a document on Airplane mode. It shows you how to turn on your Wireless adapter.
    If Airplane mode is on you cannot use your WiFi or Ethernet, so Airplane mode should off for the Wireless troubleshooting.
    I would be happy to assist if needed. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?

  • All network drivers error 31 Windows Vista 32 bit

    Dear,
    we have a desktop here with Vista 32 running on it.
    It's an Acer *sigh* Extensa E464, so yes it's old.
    The problem: all the network adapters in device manager are showing the yellow explenation mark with error code 31.
    The strange thing is, I do not know if it's related, that every network adapter (about 25-30, yes, I know, wtf) has an extra network adapter with Panda something... (can't add image before my account is verified :/ )
    So I google'd that and came on Panda security [profanity removed].. It might be related, I'm not sure.
    I can't uninstall the drivers, I can't disable the drivers, I have rebooted, I've done system restore, that did nothing to the problem, and Acer doesn't provide any driver information about this computer anymore (feel free to look) so I'm not sure what driver
    I could try to install..
    In my humble proffesional opinion, this is something software related, maybe something about the panda software thing that's getting in the way, perhaps malware.
    Any help/ideas are welcome!
    Thanks in Advance,
    Maarten De Vos
