Unified Communications & ISE

hello,
we are currently deploying UC 9.X
Communications Manager
UCCX
CER
Unity Connection
on the infrastructure side we are deploying ISE as well. ever since ISE was deployed all the phones were profiled on ISE as trusted devices however
we're experiencing so many problems
phone registration
point to point video issues
I was wondering if you guys have experienced issues like this and what did you do to resolve them
also do you know what is the best practice for ISE and UC implementation
thanks

Hi
Can you tell the version of ISE ?. Did you integrate ISE with LDAP?. The existing CUCM integrate with LDAP?.
Thank you
please rate if this will help

    Hello Robert,
Apologies for a delayed response, some days get very hectic.
In CallManager, we only define the SRST reference, and CUCM version and SRST version are independent of each other.
The only thing, which is related and will change with CUCM upgrade is Phone F/w version.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/compat/ccmcompmatr1.pdf
You may just want to check your, phone f/w compatibility with the SRST version running on your ISR G1 Gateways:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps2169/products_device_support_tables_list.html
    For Example: SRST version 7.1
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/voicesw/ps6788/vcallcon/ps2169/data_sheet_c78-520521.html
You may want to do some lab testing with CUCM 9.1 and an SRST supported f/w on your phones.
If you decide to run the old Phone/F/w to support the SRST version, you may not be able to take advantage of new features.
Also, you can try and upgrade your phones(Wih CUCM 9.1) and test them with your SRST version.
It should work fine, but from a troubleshooting perspective, TAC may request you to come into a Cisco Supported combination.
Please, let me know if this clarifies your doubt or we can have a quick phone call.

    Derrick,
RFC 3261defines ways to provide increased security for a SIP session.
The following describes areas in SIP that provides security for the protocol
    1. Authenticating users.
We need to authenticate a user to ensure that the sender of the message is who he claims to be.
To achieve this SIP uses digest authentication between a UAC, proxy and a UAS. This provides the most basic level of authentication challenge between a client, proxy and a server.
    2. Secure SIP signalling
The next area we can secure is SIP signalling itself. For this we use SSL/TLS. This is similar to using https in web browsers. With TLS before our any signalling is exchange X.509 certificates are used create a secure TLS channel. All our SIP messages are then transported within the secure channel.
NB: The digest authentication mentioned above for authenticating a user agent is just authentication. The messages are not protected from reading or modification hence it is recommended that these messages are carried inside a secure TLS channel for better security.
    3. Privacy and Identification
Additional security features in SIP provides means where any user can choose to either reveal or conceal his identity.
    4.Secure RTP
SIP also provides the ability to secure the media channel. It is not enough to secure signalling while anyone can listen to the media. RFC3830 discusses how the encryption should be done.
    5. S/MIME
S/MIME encapsulation is used to protect sip headers making it impossible for any one in between the sender and receiver to modify the sip headers

    Hi Maheshwar,
Thank you for your query. Please find my response below:
1> Do we support recording with HCS environment and which 3rd party vendors are validated with HCS based call control 10.1.1?
Answer: Whether you use a standalone UCM cluster, UCCE or HCS, call recording would be supported across the board in the same manner.

  • Unified communication certificates  (UCC) : SSSLERR_SERVER_CERT_MISMATCH

    Hello ,
We are using UCC (unified communication certificates) which allows us
to include multiple domains controlled in a single certificate.
    http://help.godaddy.com/article/3908
We are trying to setup a secure connection from SAP ECC6 (Abap stack
    7.01 SPS6) to the adress : https://serverA
When using IE, and examining the certificate installed at this adress, CN=serverB,
which contains several domains including serverA.
The ICM is in the client role
The following entry is displayed in the trace:
    [Thr 1] Tue Jun 28 15:30:06 2011
    [Thr 1] TRACE FILE TRUNCATED
    [Thr 6] Tue Jun 28 15:30:14 2011
    [Thr 6] MatchTargetName
    ("serverA", "CN=serverB OU=Global IT, O=****, L=****, C=FR") FA
    [Thr 6] SSL NI-sock: local=160.92.204.42:53988 peer=160.92.209.8:443[Thr 6] <<- ERROR: SapSSLSessionStart(sssl_hdl=0x6000000005ce4510)
    ==SSSLERR_SERVER_CERT_MISMATCH
    [Thr 6] *** ERROR => IcmConnInitClientSSL: SapSSLSessionStart failed (-30): SSSLERR_SERVER_CERT_MISMATCH [icxxconn_m
There is apparently a certificate mismatch issue, SAP ICM is expecting
the CN to be "serverA", instead of "serverB"
I had a look at sap note "Note 1318906 - Trace analysis of SSL
    problems" which states that
"the certificate that is returned by the server is issued for a
different server name and is therefore rejected"
But by definition, when using UCC, several domains and hostnames are
secured within one CN. It means that serverA domain is
    included in CN=serverB
Therefore when accessing the application with IE, there are no errors.
Is there an option on SAP ECC to be able to handle such certificates?
Thank you very much for your help.
    Best Regards.

  • What do you feel is lacking in Unified Communications today?

Our product development team knowswhat they're seeing as lacking in UC,and are curious to learn what others think.Right now what we see as the biggest thing lacking is the strategy surrounding Unified Communications (UC). Decision makers and IT directors have many different applications that they offer to their end users, but the biggest challenge is in formulating a strategy around what they’re offering to various functional areas in their business in a way that makes is easy for them to use. There are many different applications and silos of applications all running on the desktop at the same time; offering them in a seamless fashion to end users is the crux of the strategy, so there is a high rate of user adoption. Hello,
Based on your description, you can try to use SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB.
LocalDB is created specifically for developers. It is very easy to install and requires no management, but it offers the same T-SQL language, programming surface and client-side providers as the regular SQL Server Express.
SQL Server LocalDB can work with Entity Framework and ADO.NET Syc Framework. However, there is no built-in encryption feature in LocalDB which
can let you encrypt database. You should decrypt/encrypt data on your own, for example, using
    Cryptographic Functions

  • Broken Cisco Unity / Unified Communications Manager association

We have several Cisco Unity Connection users with the following status in their profiles:
"This user's association to the co-resident Cisco Unified Communications Manager user has been broken.
Please Click Here to reassociate the orphaned user."
Clicking on the reassociation button does not show any of the users with broken associations, just a few resource users.
Is there any way to reassociate these users with CUCM without having to delete them in Unity Connection along with their mailboxes?

These are the steps I took to resolve the issue. I was particularly concerned about users losing saved messages in their voicemail. The posted solution did not give much detail on what to do.
    1) Create a new user in CUCM. For example, I have a user called 'John Doe' in the system. I created a new one called 'John Doe2'.
    2) After creating the user I associated 'John Doe2' to the phone in use by 'John Doe'. Then I set the Primary Extension as needed for that user. Hit the 'Save' button and verify that the 'Create Cisco Unity User' option shows up in the drop-down box in the right hand corner.
    3) Log into Cisco Unity Connection Administration, and select 'John Doe'. Click on the link to re-associate and select 'John Doe2'. This links the Unity user to the CUCM user.
    4) Log back into CUCM and select 'John Doe' from the user list. Remove all device associations from the user. Hit Save, then delete the user.
    5) Select 'John Doe2' and rename the user as 'John Doe'.
These steps fixed my problem. I had to do it for all the users whose association was broken. One note to make is that the voicemail PIN is automatically reset to the default I believe, which is 0000. Other than that voicemail continues to work normally and users don't have to redo their greetings and such.

  • Help on planning Unified communication - Business edition deployment

    Hi All,
At new office, we want to setup unified communication - business edition for 100 user. For planning, designing and ordering, i need some guidance.. some good document reference etc. For planning, i am considering,  switching infrastructure with PoE, ISR router with SRST (need 40 concurrent call capacity) and mid-range price phone instruments. We have about 10 member of tech support staff who will need basic call center feature. I guess, out of box feature of hunting group with user's presence will be fine.
Any suggestion, comments, document will be very helpful.
    thanks in advance.
    regards
    Rakesh
    ======

You need to talk to a Cisco partner for this. There is no way for us to properly qualify a design on a forum post. Off the top of my head I would say 2960S switches, 2951 ISR, 7945G phones, and a BE6k appliance with UWL Standard. CCX would be an optional line item if you want more than a hunt group.
All of the ordering guides are confidential to partners only so I can't give you links to those; you won't have access. Otherwise reviewing the product data sheets is probably your best option short of contacting a partner. Keep in mind you'll have to work through a partner to order this anyways so avoiding one is just making your life harder.

  • Cisco router 877M capability to use Unified Communications technology?

    Hi all,
Can Cisco router 877M have the features or capability to use VOIP or Unified Communications  technology?
    Cheers,

    Hi Tai,
You may want to take a look at the 2800 series routers. There are bundles to support the number of users you currently have.
If you were to install a 2800 series at your headquarters your remote sites could VPN to headquarters and receive their phone service from headquarters.
Doing this will eliminate any toll charges for calls between the offices.
There is the need to maintain connections to the PSTN in case you lose your WAN connection you will maintain telephony services utilizing the PSTN.
At your remote sites you may want to consider the 880 series routers which have a provision for Survivable remote site telephony (SRST).
This feature allows the router at the remote site to maintain call management if the remote site loses the WAN connection to headquarters.
These calls would then be automatically routed through the PSTN until the WAN connection is restored.
The savings from eliminating charges for calls between your sites may justify the purchase of the new technology.
I would suggest you do a cost study to see how much you spend monthly on calls between the offices.
    Hope this helps.
