Unifying/Stabilizing Natural Light Question

Hi! I really need some help with a lighting problem. My boss gave me an hour-long interview that was shot indoors, but using natural light through the windows. Throughout the interview, the sun fades in and out and drastically brightens/darkens the footage.
Is there any way to set the entire clip to one lighting setting? Rather than using markers, and changing the brightness/contrast every time the sun appears/disappears? I've searched through an instruction manual and online, and can't seem to find anything.
Any help would be REALLY appreciated. Thanks!

High BlueBird,
welcome to the forums,
as David said this is an opportunity for you to master the use of keyframes, it will require time and a lot of attention. I am adding this comment just to remind you that this kind of work has to produce a perfect result in order to be worth it. It is not about getting the lighting better it is about getting it so steady and continues that no one will be able to spot the slightest light shift or flicker.
I had to do something similar a while back for a client, I had to fix sudden and quick light shifts...she was really happy at the end when I finished but I wished I don't have to do this again for 6 or 7 years ... pick the Color Corrector 3 Way filter and start keyframing highs and mids. Good luck!

  • IMac G5 17" power light question

Should it be on all the time when the computer is in use, or only lit, slowly pulsing, when sleeping?

This is getting confusing. I thought that was so also, but found this kb article after posting
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3016 which would seem to indicate otherwise. Reason for question is that after getting computer back from (problematic) repairs, I noticed no power light when in operation. Only in sleep mode. The tech thought this was normal. Now I don't know what to think.

  • Simple battery light question

When my battery is taken out of the computer, pressing the button on my battery causes the first light to blink. When putting it in the computer and plugging in the power adapter, the first light blinks continuously, and the power adapter's color changes to an orange color.
Is this normal? Is this just an indication of the battery charging? Or is there a problem with the battery?

Hi smtlaissezfaire, welcome to Apple Discussions!
If the battery light blinks then this indicates that it needs to be recharged.
The power adapter should stay orange while the battery is charging and upon completion will turn green.
Have you been able to charge the battery until the adapter turns green?
What do the battery lights do then if you press the button?

  • Nikon NEF's and Active D-Lighting question

Not being sure how Aperture handles Active D-Lighting NEF's, so I think it might be best to leave it off in camera for NON Nikon software.
Thoughts from anyone? How do people here process Nikon NEF's in Aperture?
    Nikon D300 user.

aperture pulls the raw data ... not any in camera settings that would be applied as part of the camera's or manufacturer's processing ... this is the case with ALL 3rd party RAW converters ... your sensor gives the raw data ...
the as shot WB is used, but since it is RAW you can change that ...

So all of the settings I do on the D300 are worthless to Aperture.
so yeah ... worthless ... if that is what you wanna call it ... why bother with post processing a RAW image if you want all your parameters set by the camera during the shoot ... you'd be better off sticking with JPEG ...
find me another RAW converter that can read proprietary camera manufacturers in camera settings (saturation, contrast, sharpness, etc) and i will gladly apologize ...

  • Mbp late 2011 battery indicator light question

The mbp will not boot or turn on.
Without being connected to a power source, none of the battery indicator lights come on when I push the little battery indicator light button.
Once I plug in the power cord and push the little battery indicator light button, the very left battery indicator light flashes on and off green.
    What does this mean?
I have detached the battery and re-attached the battery adapter to no avail. (Using the following instructions: http://www.spathi.net/tech-support/macbook-pro-wont-turn-on-charge-light-blinkin g-orange/)

If you have AppleCare, they will mail you the battery.
If you do not have AppleCare, call Customer Relations 1-800-767-2775. See what they can do for you. CS will determine if your model MBP qualifies for a free battery.

  • Wireless Light - Question

At what moment I should see the "Wireless Light" on?
I ask 'cause I've tried to make my wireless connection to work, but it does never work. Maybe the fact that the light is always off is a way to tell me that my router is (maybe) broken and need to be replace.
Also, the "Security Light" is always on. Is that ok or should be off? What does that light mean? (When On means ? And when Off means ?)

If you are earlier using wireless connection & not done any changes on the router setting... then by default the wireless light should be turned on .....
Access router setup page ... click wireless tab & see if the wireless SSID broadcast is enabled or not .... it shoulds be enabled ....
also the Wireless mode should be MIXED .....
If all settings are GOOD still no light ...then reset the router for few seconds ... & see if light is there or not .....

  • New power supply and sleep light question

I just got my iMac back with a new power supply and logic board installed under the Apple repair extension program. I had diagnosed the problem using the Apple troubleshooting assistant online. When I did this I also reset the SMU (system management unit) per the instructions with the troubleshooting assistant.
My computer is now working correctly but when I run Software Update I am prompted to install the iMac G5 Sleep Light Update version 1.0. I had previously installed version 2.0.0 back in July/05. I don't have the ambient light sensor iMac. I am a little nervous about installing this version or reinstalling the version I alreay have in my utilities. I realize this is a firmware update and cannot be reversed.
Anyone else experience this with 2 different versions of the Sleep Light Update, I don't seem to be able to find any info on the Apple site.
    Thanks for any info
    Scott

"reinstalling the version I alreay have in my utilities"
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but if you have it in your utilities folder, I believe that means that the installer folder has been downloaded, but the install was not done. I am thinking that once installed, it disappears from the Utilities folder.
I see no reason why you would need to do that firmware update if you don't want it. In the future, if you or someone else wants to do the update, it'll still be available on the Apple website.

  • Unified Camera Tool - newbie question

Maybe this isnt strange but the UniCam tool is acting odd to me.
    Layers:
    1 - camera
    2 - shape - 3D
    3 - Text - 3D
When i use the unicam tool the axis that it rotaes on is semmingly the imaginary tripod the cam is on. It use to act like the rotate tool in c4d which orbits the center of the world or the object selected.
In tutorials i see that the left click button orbits the elements of the comp.
Is there a setting that needs to be click so that i can make the cam orbit the comp elements?

Wait... the UniCam tool is view sensitive and once i switched to a custom view, I got the desired behavior.

  • Ambient Light Sensor Not Working Macbook Pro 13 inch early 2011 version

Hi. I just need some clarification on how the ambient light sensor works. it seems mine is not working. Correct me if I'm wrong:
    1. Screen light must increase brightness if you are in a dark / dim room
    2. Screen light must decrease brightness if there is natural light
What must be the level of light in F2? Should it just be in the middle to activate ALS?
    Am I correct or not?

    1. Screen light must increase brightness if you are in a dark / dim room
    2. Screen light must decrease brightness if there is natural light
Actually, you are wrong. The opposite of each statement is true.
If the screen adjusted itself to maximum brightness in a very dark room, it would be blinding. In a dark room, you only need a very dim backlight to be able to see the screen well.
And in bright light, the screen is quite hard to read unless it is very bright.
What must be the level of light in F2? Should it just be in the middle to activate ALS?
I'm sorry, but I don't understand these questions.
The ALS is always active. You can determine (in System Preferences) whether or not it will automatically adjust your keyboard and display backlights as ambient light levels change.

  • Batch processing light levels...

I make stop-motion animations using natural light. This results in a “flickering” effect due to the small differences in light in each still. I am able to balance the light levels in Photoshop for each still, but this is very time-consuming. I’ve heard of using Batch processing for multiple images, but I have one question:
Can Batch processing take a number of images and make the light levels the same in each (so that all the images look the same)? Or does it just take a number of images and make the same adjustments to each one (so that they would still look different from eachother)?

Or does it just take a number of images and make the same adjustments to each one (so that they would still look different from eachother)?
How do you adjust the luminance?
Is it done with one of the Auto corrections? Then it should be automatable.
If it requires manual input (for example in the Levels or Curves dialog) then you are looking at a problem (not an undeserved one, I guess, as you chose natural lighting).
Far as I can tell automation of content-dependent corrections basically requires some form of quantifiability of the issue; so if you could for example deduce the necessary correction from the Histogram one should be able to make a Script for the task.

  • Camera to take videos as well as stills. Light.. What is composite output?

Light to see subjects in low natural light can be built in, or a jack to add a separate light. Prefer less expensive to more expensive. Any recommendations?
Separate question--What is the difference between a camcorder that has just composite output vs one that also has  component output?

    Garydad,
Composite video and component video are both analog video signals.  Composite is the older standard definition signal that you have commonly seen output over a single wire with a yellow RCA connector, along with the separate audio connections.  Component video was the older analog high definition signal that was output over three separate wires with different color RCA connectors, along with the separate audio connections.
Are you looking for more of a still camera or for more of a camcorder?

  • Questions about Real Application Testing(RAT)

    Hi All,
We have a production database running on 10gR3 on a server with local drives, while we have a Oracle 11gR2 DB running on a server with NFS mounts (using S7310 - AmberRoad) i.e. Faster and better storage.
We captured the load on 10gR3 and replayed it on 11gR2. We noticed the following:
    (1) Replay is considerably slow even though Oracle11gR2 instance has a faster storage. We suspect that it may be something to do with the buffer cache / SGA because there is nothing in cache on the target (we didn't shutdown 10gR2 DB for capture) – what should we do then?
    (2) To make sure that we can take the advantage of cache, we replayed the load 2nd time right after the 1st replay and everything ran to our surprise. So we are wondering how’s that possible since we did not restore the DB as we do not want to wipe off the cache (chicken and egg situation)? Does Oracle rollback the changes after the replay?
    (3) Do we have to restore database on Target every time we do replay? But if we do that then we won't have anything in the SGA.
So we need your advise and also would like to know how everyone else is doing this testing?
    Regards,
    RJiv.

DB Replay's workload capture facility allows you to either start capture from a closed (mounted) database (capture starts upon opening the DB), or to begin capture mid-stream during normal activity. Starting capture on the production system from a closed database eliminates the divergence in performance resulting from a primed cache, as well as possible data divergence issues from open, partially-completed transactions at the time the capture started.
For many customers, it will clearly not be possible to close their database during peak periods (!!)
One way to address the cache priming issue is to start capture in production from a closed state during a low period of activity, and the allow capture to run through the peak period.
Another approach is to start capture mid-stream with the DB open and to run capture for a long period (long enough to stabilize the cache). When performing the replay, begin a new AWR snapshot after the cache has stabilized.
Your question about running the replay again after the first replay is done is confusing. Of course you will not get meaningful data from that, since replay must begin from the capture start SCN. If you run replay twice in a row without reverting the database to the capture start SCN, it will be applying meaningless changes to a database in a state that is unlike that of the original. You will be testing the data errors codepath instead of real performance.
It is typical to enable database flashback on the repay database so that it can be repeatedly reverted to the capture start SCN for testing under a variety of scenarios.

  • When I save and/ or export a video, the light majorly fades in and out.

I have noticed that the lighting in my videos fade in and out which ruins the quality of the video. There is nothing wrong with the original file and when I view the files before hand, the fading is not there. The fading is almost like the lighting in my videos (typically natural lighting, but sometimes studio) are strobe lights.
It typically happens when I save my project and go back to it or when I export it.
Is there anyway to stop this from happening?
This was happening before Yosemite by the way.
Thanks for any help you guys can offer.

Greyed imaged in the Import dialog box mean you have already imported the photos into Lightroom, so there is no need and no benefit to importing them a second time.
Just go to the Library module, search for the desired photos, and resume working on these photos.
