Unindexed search times for DSEE 6.3.1 versus DS 5.2 -   5.2 wins?!!?

We are running 6.3.1 and 5.2 systems in parallel. On both systems, the displayname attribute is not indexed. Upon issuing an ldapsearch on filter (displayname=Mark Markie-Mark) for example, the 6.3.1 system will take about 90 seconds to complete the query. On the otherhand, the same query on the 5.2 system takes about 10 seconds. These queries were done by BINDing as a standard user over SSL.
When I use directory manager account, the queries both return in the same amount of time.
Indexing the displayname attribute for equality fixes the duration drastically (within a second results are returned). However, why would the newer version of the software take longer on non-indexed searches such as this? Our new hardware is faster as well.

ACIs and number of entries are the same between the two systems. I used the dsmig command to migrate security, config, and schema settings. One thing I left out is that the 5.2 system and 6.3.1 system are part of the same replication topology, with 5.2 masters replicating to both 6.3.1 consumers and 5.2 consumers.
We also came to the conclusion that ACI evaluation could be the problem, but why would indexing the attribute affect the ACI evaluation performance? Has the ACI evaluation engine significantly changed between 5.2 and 6.3.1?

  • User Search time for Assigning group

    Hello Portal gurus,
    Iam using EP6 SP 14.
The time taken for adding or deleting users from a group is over 10 min to search single user. As we have around 2500 users its taking a long time to search for the user  from the assigned groups.
Can anbody suggest  me how to reduce the time for the user search in assigned group.
    Thanks in advance......
    Regards,
    Master.

So I figured it out.  For anyone else wondering, here's the answer...
Back in May I ran gpresult against user A and user B.  I compared both users and noticed one difference.  I'm still not sure why, but user A had a single registry key group policy preference that was not applied like the rest of the users in the entire
domain.  Thus, user B had all the same group membership, SharePoint, SQL Server settings as user A, and still didn't function properly with the peoplepicker.
Due to security posture, it was recommended we set the "State" REG_DWORD value to 10000 (Hex), or 65536 (Dec) using group policy, restricting the following registry keys:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WinTrust\Trust Providers\Software Publishing
    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WinTrust\Trust Providers\Software Publishing
    HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WinTrust\Trust Providers\Software Publishing
NOTE:  SIDs S-1-5-19 and S-1-5-20 had different, apparently less restrictive "State" values of 23c00 (Hex) and 146432 (Dec)
I did some searching and found another
post where someone had a seemingly similar issue with Webex malfunctioning after restricting the same key values.
Upon reverting the above three key "State" values of 23c00 (Hex) and 146432 (Dec) on the AD box and forcing a group policy update, peoplepicker started working properly again for all users in SharePoint.

  • How to limit search time for high etimes

We are seeing an issue where some searches are hitting a ceiling of 120 sec which is causing problems downstream in other applications. If the search were to timeout sooner the problems could be handled a bit more gracefully by the other pieces in the puzzle. Is this a tunable option in sunone v5.2? Is this done via the console, or a conf file?
    -Inet

You can set this with the "nsslapd-timelimit" attribute of cn=config.
    This is documented here:
    http://docs.sun.com/source/817-7616/config.html
This setting is effective for all users who bind to the server.
You can also set this per-user (rather than server-wide) by adding a nsTimeLimit attribute to individual accounts.
    This is documented here:
    http://docs.sun.com/source/817-7613/useracct.html#wp19772

  • I dropped my iPhone down a stairwell. It was in a case but the screen shattered. I replaced the screen with disaled iphone. Now it loses signal all the time, and goes into "searching" mode for cell signal.

iTunes says it needs to be restored to default to connect. When I restore it nothing changes. I get the same behavior. Below is my deivce log from the iPhone Config Utility. Hopefully someone can tell me if the phone is a wash.

Obviously your phone was damaged by the fall. Take it in for evaluation, servicing and/or replacement at an Apple store or authorized service provider.
Since it is out of warranty you will, most likely, have to pay.

  • Search help for time

    HI,
I need a Search help for time field in case of input field ie the one similar to the date field. In webdynpro we have mapped the Tims data type to our input field.here Tims data type is the data type for time in  the backend(R/3 system).Pls help me out its urgent.Pts will be awarded to any of the helpful  solutions.

    Hi Nikhil,
Create an attribute of type 'time' in context. And inputfield to this attribute.
Later, while calling BAPI, you can pass this value to Tms type field.
    Regards,
    Deepti

  • Very long search times from an IMac running 10.6.7 Snow Leopard when searching for files on a windows 2003 server

    The issue is as follows:
The Imac is connected to the  windows 2003 server via SMB type connection.
There are four sub folders in the main directory. We go to one of the sub folders in this case Server.
We go to search window and type the file name that we want to search such as test .
The choices selected for search parameters are Server for location and contains (same results if picked by file name)
Search takes roughly 6 minutes before it returns the result.
If we do the same search on the old Mac Server it will take 15 seconds to complete using same search parameters.
Any ideas on how to speed up search times to the Windows 2003 Server? I have tried going to finder preferences and removing the sharing section. That did not help.

    Okay, I've....
    1) Reinstalled XE, to start from scratch
    2) Went in to SQL*Plus, did a "create pfile from spfile;"
    3) Shutdown the database
    4) Started it up in MOUNT mode
    5) Ran NID, to change the database name from 'XE' to 'CTXMGMT'
    6) Shutdown the database again
    7) Edited the pfile to change the database name (i.e. "db_name='CTXMGMT'")
    8) Started up the database
And that worked! So that's good... but now my question is:
How do I change the SID for the database? Currently, the instance name for the database is still 'XE'....
    SQL> select instance_name

I'd like it so a connection could be made to the database with the tnsnames.ora file looking like this:
    CTXMGMT =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(Host = rodin)(Port = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = CTXMGMT))
Could someone explain how to get the database to this state? Thanks.

  • Increase in Loading time for LV search in 2011

Initially when I loaded LV2011 my quick drop and the search took nearly 5 seconds but now it takes nearly 20 seconds to load so is there any reason for this kind of performance. Also I don't have anyother big software loaded or running in my PC. I have added few toolkits from VI package manager may be that is the reason?.
The best solution is the one you find it by yourself

    RavensFan wrote:
In my message in the other thread, I commented that I thought 20 seconds wasn't all that long.  But I thought you were commenting on the loading time for LabVIEW itself.  That does seem like a long time for any of the internal LabVIEW dialogs to come up.
(Actually, I find several internal dialogs seem to take longer to load the first time then they should including the properties dialog.  But not 20 seconds long.)
Hopefully, with this message thread in the LabVIEW forum, others can comment and offer suggestions on how to determine what the issue your having is.
Yes now I have plenty of toolkits ( Thanks for spotting me in the other thread )
Jeff you hit the bullseye. The loading was set as Load palette when needed.

  • Configure DPS based on Etime or for unindexed searches

    Hi all,
can anyone help me how to configure Proxy server, in order to route traffic based on etime & also for unindexed searches (Notes=U). I am doing sample tests using connection handlers but no luck.
    For ex;
I have created 2 data views & want all the searches whose etime is more to go to data view 1 & all the unindexed searches go to dataview 2.
I really appreciate if anyone can guide me how to do the configuration for this task.
    Thanks
    uday453_108

    Chris,
I was going through some documents & found this in the appendix of DPS & trying all sorts to figure out how can we do this. (Please see the link below: trawling of LDAP directory)
    http://docs.sun.com/source/817-7615/AppFaq.html
""Directory Proxy Server can also be configured to deny un-indexed searches. Un-indexed searches are inefficient and can possibly have a negative impact in performance.""
So i am curious to know how this can be done & if there's a method, i would really like to implement it in DEV env & see how it works. You told me that servers may crash, but still i just want to configure if there's a way to do it. Do you have any custom scripts which performs this kinds of tasks???
    Let me know..
    Thank you for your support.

  • I want to search Time Machine for an appointment that has been deleted from my current view of iCal.  Can I "restore" a previous version of iCal without losing all the entries I've made to the calendar since that prior date?

I want to search Time Machine for an appointment that has been deleted from my current view of iCal.  Can I "restore" a previous version of iCal without losing all the entries I've made to the calendar since that prior date?

No. I tried it on my Time Machine (I had just made one change today, so I knew I would not be left in the lurch if I failed) and when I clicked on restore I got this message:
It seems you have several options.  I chose 'Keep Both'.  I suggest that you proceed with your search.
    Ciao.

  • Have searched Forums for quite some time now. Cannot find a correct answer to: how do I prevent my old email address from appearing as the "from:" address

Have searched Forums for quite some time now. Cannot find a correct answer to: how do I prevent my old email address from appearing as the "from:" address when I use a "send this" link on a webpage/news article. The email window opens and automatically inserts my old Hotmail address instead of the Yahoo address I've used for a long time. (The drop-down won't let me change it or delete it.) Thanks.

Do you get a drop down list with suggestions if you clear that "from" field and click elsewhere on that page to move the focus off that field and then double-click again in that field or start typing the first letters of that unwanted email address?
Use these steps to remove saved (form) data from a drop down list:
#Click the (empty) input field on the web page to open the drop down list
#Highlight an entry in the drop down list
#Press the Delete key (on Mac: Shift+Delete) to remove it.

  • NOT operator: What kind of index to create to prevent unindexed searches ?

I see the following unindexed searches in my ODSEE (dsconf : 11.1.1.3.0 B2010.0630.2145) directory access log:
    [30/Sep/2011:11:42:04 +0200] conn=133 op=1 msgId=2 - SRCH base="ou=people,ou=.... " scope=1 filter="(!(employeeType=P))" attrs="mail sn givenName"
    [30/Sep/2011:11:42:28 +0200] conn=133 op=1 msgId=2 - RESULT err=0 tag=101 nentries=94312 etime=24 notes=U
I've created an equality index on the employeeType attribute with a threshold of 130 000. I know that I have 4 possible values for the
employeetype attribute, where at most 90000 entries have the same value. So, I don't understand why it's considered as an unindexed search.
What index(es) and index parameter(s) should I create to have that kind of search match an index ?

A while back Ludovic (I think) posted that there is no index for NOT. If you think about it, the usual index operation for equality, for example, has a key and value. The employeeType equality index key for "P" would have as its value a list of entryIDs that have the appropriate employeetype. So where would we get the list of entryIDs that don't have the value? Every key would need a corresponding negation key, containing the symmetric difference of ALLIDs with the original key. Computing it on the fly involves ALLIDs, which puts it right in to the unindexed category. Maintaining such a collection of indexes looks like a significant increase in processing time, I/O to the DB, and data size in the indexes. I'm guessing a bit of analysis on that may well show the cost is prohibitive. And in many cases any significant additional processing of this kind ought to be avoided. Maybe someone in ENG will chime in here with more details.
But if you already know all the other values you are looking for, can't you do a compound OR filter and get them all that way? It may still be unindexed if the candidate list grows over time to be more than your ALLIDs threshold. To be frank this query does not look like something that ought to be indexed. It grabs a pretty large number of your users. Your ALLIDS threshold already looks too high to me. If this is a reporting query of some kind, I'd recommend either parsing an LDIF backup (if you don't need realtime data) or using a utility/reporting server that you can bog down with long-running queries. If you are already using a utility server for this, you can examine whether the query really needs to be indexed at all. It may not make sense to try to index it.
As to why an operator would be available but not indexable, remember that the second major step of search processing examines each member of the candidate list and verifies a match on the filter. We routinely include filter components that we do not expect to assist in the creation of the candidate list, but we still want to be applied to the candidates during the filtering phase. For instance, consider the conventional filter (&(objectclass=person)(cn=XYZ)). In many Directories the objectclass filter component will evaluate to ALLIDs, and we want it to, because the cn component will have a much shorter list. We don't want the server to have to perform set intersection of a huge list of entryIDS (all the person objects) with the cn list. This is an example of how a too large ALLIDs threshold can hinder performance. We want the server to do the much easier intersection of ALLIDs with the short cn component list, because we know intersection of any subset of ALLIDs with ALLIDs is the subset. But we do want the server to check the candidates to make sure they really are person entries before returning them.

  • Duplicate check on search term for BP creation in CRM

    HI,
I want to do a duplicate check on search term for BP creation in CRM.
i found one BADI ADDRESS_SEARCH. But the method address_search is not getting called.
Is there any other BADI available? how can I handle this issue?

    hello,
BP is BDT (Business Data toolset) enabled (you can check it by adding break point in FM BUS_PBO and executing BP transaction). You can add your check directly to standard view (the check will be executed each time when user pushes enter) or you could add you check to appropriate action (during saving etc.) there are number of actions which you could use it depends on your requirements. You can find a lot of info about BDT (if you are not familiar) in Wiki.

You can set up daily time limits for each computer that connects using wireless, but it is not possible to do this when a computer is connecting directly using a wired Ethernet connection.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility on your Mac and click Manual Setup
Click the Access Control tab below the icons
    Select Timed Access
For more details on this, click the Help menu at the top of the screen and enter the following phrase into the search box:
Controlling access to your wireless network
A more sophisticated approach would be to use a service provided by OpenDNS. From your computer, this would allow you to monitor web sites visited, and block any unsuitable sites. More info is here:
