Uninstall Aperture 1.5?

Hi,
Last year some time, I installed the trial/demo version of Aperture 1.5. It expired after 30 days and I "uninstalled" by simply dragging the app icon to my Trash. However, my iMac still thinks I have Aperture installed because it keeps offering to download Software Updates for pro apps, namely Aperture.
Can someone please tell me, how do I fully uninstall all traces of Aperture from my iMac?

appzapper ...
or
to uninstall ...
drag the app to the trash ...
delete the following folders and files ...
~\Library\Preferences\com.apple.Aperture.plist
~\Library\Caches\Aperture
~\Library\Application Support\Aperture
\Library\Application Support\ProApps\Aperture System ID

What is the best way to completely uninstall Aperture from a MacBook Pro.
I just ordered a new MacBook Pro and I want to remove it from my older MacBook Pro.

Deleting the application from your /Applications folder is sufficient. There are sample projects in /Library/Application/Aperture you may want to get rid of as well, as they take up a fair bit of space.

  • Uninstalling Aperture 2.1.4 from OS X 10.6.2

I have recently bought Adobe Photoshop and would now like to uninstall Aperture 2.1.4 from my Macbook Pro which is running OS X 10.6.2. However I want to make sure that in doing so I don't risk losing any of my photos.
I'm sorry if this might sound a naive question, but can anyone offer any advice on how to remove the application; and (ii) reassure me that I won't risk losing any photos?
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Thanks for the response. The only reason for uninstalling Aperture is to free up a bit of disk space. I'm rapidly running out so am being selective in what I have loaded. I've already got rid of GarageBand and had moved on to looking at further options.

  • Should I Uninstall Aperture and iPhoto? warning-long and complicated!

Due to trying to combine 2 libraries from 2 different computers, and trying to relocate masters, I've created a bit of a cluster, shall we say. I first ended up with 7,000 images on my desktop that i didn't allow aperture to locate originals. of course i didn't realize this was happening until after the fact. then i couldn't empty my trash after putting a couple old backups in it. then my finder stopping responding and i couldn't empty the trash, couldn't remove any of the files from the desktop, and on and on. tried to get into the finder window/destop via the mail app-it was the only way the finder window would open and delete the files that way. no luck. finally just went to the genius bar, and they were kind enough to take a little extra time and hooked up to their network and deleted all the crap off the desktop.
The problem now, is that Aperture keeps crashing, and iPhoto keeps wanting to update thumbnails. Can't really move about or do anything in Aperture AT all now.
I have repaired permissions, repaired the library, and am now trying a rebuild. If this doesn't work, i think my only option is to start over. i do have a good backup of Aperture/iPhoto will all files intact on an EHD.
Phew....hope this makes sense, and looking for guidance if possible. If I do need to start over, would I just uninstall Aperture, and iPhoto, then re-download them, or just drag and drop the backup from the EHD and that will work?
thanks so much to any "helpers"!

thanks corky! since i'm such a novice, a little of that was over my head, but i love to learn new things!
Sorry if I gave too much detail. In a nutshell, the user library folder (which is hidden by default in Lion and Mountain Lion) simply holds settings for any given program including settings the user can change in the program. All of the files in that folder are recreated either automatically by the program when launched again, or by the user making setting changes in the program again. Leaving them in place for a re-install is fine as long as none are corrupted.
Well, i kinda jumped ahead, and hope i didn't make it worse. I already put the corrupt AP library in my trash and it's emptying right now. i didn't see the need to keep it, plus with as many files as it contained (over 300,000 as i said), I felt like i needed to get it off my hd. kind of like smelly old food! (bad analogy, i know!)
Not a problem since you have a known good backup library on the EHD.
So, that said, if i understand correctly, i will open Ap after, import a few images-from where? I won't have a library any more. Then if i works correctly, I would drag the good backup from my EHD, to the PIctures folder in the Finder window, and then import to Aperture from there? Just do "import", and then that's it, or is it more complicated than that?
Once you launch Aperture for the first time after re-install, import any pictures you have to test with. Take a couple pictures on your camera and then import those. Make sure you can import successfully and that you can add adjustments. Then export them to anywhere you want (Desktop, Pictures folder, or any other folder) to make sure the export function works correctly. If all is fine, quit Aperture and then delete that library (which should be quite small and quick to delete).
Connect the EHD and then drag your known good backup library to the Pictures folder and then double-click it to load it. You should then be back to square one before everything went sideways (assuming the backup is a managed library with the Master (Originals) in the library).
Note - if you were running a Referenced library (where the Masters (Originals) were located outside the library package in Finder folders) - then you will need to make sure the Masters (Originals) are located in their correct locations before launching the good library so the library will locate them automatically. I mention this because you said in your opening post that you were combining libraries and relocating Masters so I am not sure what type of library the known good backup library is.
FWIW, the default library type for Aperture is a Managed library where the imported images are stored inside the library package.

    How do I uninstall Aperture 1.5 ?

I have always had very good luck following this process for removing any Mac application:
    1. Delete application icon and immediately empty trash
    2. Perform search on the hard drive using the applications name; in this case "Aperture". Spotlight will locate any file named Aperture which will normally catch about 99% of all application file types including plist and other preference files.
    3. Empty trash.
I have very seldom found any stragglers on my system from deleted applications after following this method. Hope this works for you.

    The Aperture application in /Applications
    Support files in /Library/Application Support/Aperture and ~/Library/Application Support/Aperture

You could always use Spotlight and search on "Aperture" to get everything.

  • I accidentally uninstalled aperture from my dock and computer how do I reinstall?

I accidentally uninstalled aperture from my dock and computer how do I reinstall on my MacBook Air?  I was removing Aperture from my DOCK.  Later when I went to search for it in my applications it was no longer available.  I searched trash and applications.  How do I reinstall?

I was removing Aperture from my DOCK.  Later when I went to search for it in my applications it was no longer available.
When you remove an application from the Dock, it will just vanish from the Dock and not be deleted. Either the application was already missing, or you removed Aperture from the Launchpad. Removing from the Launchpad will uninstall an application completely.
If you hold down on an app, until the "x" appears and then tab the x, the application will be removed from the Applications folder.
    How do I reinstall?
That  will depend on your Aperture version and system version. What are they?
If you bought Aperture from the AppStore or are using Aperture 3.5.1, sign into the AppStore with your AppleID and download Aperture again from the "Purchased" tab.
If you bought an earlier version of Aperture, you need to use the installer disk image or installer DVD that you originally used. Do you still have the media and an optical drive for your MBA?
If you cannot run the installer, restore the Aperture application from your backup.

  • Uninstalling aperture - crashing?

Today i wanted to uninstall aperture, and as i've got cleanmymac, it does the uninstalling process for me.
But when uninstalling it, a message appeared which said that aperture was a system file, but i uninstalled anyways.
Then the next time i started my macbook pro, it was extremely slow, the dock and the icons were gone, and this rotting "beach ball" just appeared every time i did anything?
Now i've got my macbook restored from a time machine backup, but i don't want to mess up anything again if i try to uninstall aperture...
Anyone who can help me solve the problem, cause i don't use aperture, and i just want to uninstall it

If the app did not come w/an uninstaller, just drag the app to the trash.  Check inside the Home>Library>Preferences folder to see if there is a plist file.  If so, trash that too.

  • Can't uninstall Aperture to upgrade - please help

Been trying to figure out how to upgrade to Aperture full licence for a week.
On load of trial it asks you to selct the 'mode' - i.e.: Continue Trial, Enter licence Key or 'Buy' a licence.
When you click on the "buy" you go to AppStore - but then you cannot buy a licence as you need to install the software and the application reports an error that the 'software is already installed'
Trying to uninstall the software I discover that in Lion you must use the LaunchPad to do this: instructions below from "help"
    Uninstall apps
To uninstall apps you purchased from the Mac App Store, hold down an app’s icon in Launchpad until all the icons begin to wiggle. Click an app’s delete button (x) to uninstall the app.If an icon doesn’t have a delete button, that app can’t be uninstalled.
To uninstall other apps, drag the app to the Trash (the Trash is located at the end of the Dock), and then choose Finder > Empty Trash. If you change your mind, before emptying the Trash, select the app in the Trash, and then choose File > Put Back.WARNING: When you empty the Trash, the app is permanently removed from your computer. If you have any files that you created with the app, you may not be able to open them."
However Aperture fits into the type "Cannot be uninstalled" highlighted in red above.
I am concerned that if I use a third party uninstaller I may lose application data.......  Please help!!
P.S.  Can you 'back up/save/ output etc the system settings for an application so as to not lose them on a reinstall??

I see from your signature you are using Mac OS 10.7.2 Lion.
Under Lion the Applications Folder is protected, and dragging from this folder simply creates Aliases on the Desktop. To delete an Application I found it easier to select the application and to use Command-delete. Then you will be prompted for your administrator password an can remove the application.

Can you 'back up/save/ output etc the system settings for an application so as to not lose them on a reinstall??
The setting, and all your Aperture presets, are stored in your user library, in the preferences folder and the Application Support folder. These will not be affected by moving the Aperture Application to the trash. Aperture will use the same settings when you relaunch it after the upgrade to the full version.
    Enjoy Aperture!

  • How to remove (uninstall) Aperture?

Hallo everyone, I need an information and I'm not able to find the right solution.
I want to uninstall, from my PB, Aperture but I'm not sure about the right way to solve this problem.
    Someone can help me?
    Thank you very much

I use an application called appzapp. It will find all the files associated with an application and let you delete them all at once. It's shareware it lets you do like 5 removals at a time before it quits.

I've not used it to remove aperture, so be careful that you have all of your pics out of the app, as you might delete the vaults or libraries.
    hope it helps.

  • Uninstalling Aperture 3 Trial, iPhoto lock & Access to photos

    Greetings,
My Aperture trial expired, but I'm not ready to buy.
The trial open dialog keeps appearing whenever I plug in my iPhone, and now since Aperture expired, iTunes is saying iTunes Library is locked or I don't have permission, so I can't sync my iPhone, in fact I can't even open iTunes. Perhaps unrelated to Aperture, but this lock out happened after I say "quit" to Aperture and I can't bypass Aperture because the iPhone triggers it.
Now, I'd like to remove the trial of Aperture so I can sync my iPhone, but now I'm reading that all my photos pulled using Aperture are not accessible unless I export the originals. Really? That' seems a bit over reaching, but maybe I'm missing something here. I've shot about 3K photos during the trial and I'd be a bit miffed if Aperture truly prevented me from accessing my own content.
    Some help please.
    Thanks,
    Joan

Thanks for this info. Moving Aperture to the Trash (and restarting my computer) worked to get my iPhone sync'd.
Regarding moving master photos, I got a dialog from Aperture when I plugged in my iPhone. It said my trial had ended and if I wanted to export my photos (or similar message). Of course I said yes and moved the photos elsewhere.
I tried your method after the fact and no masters were in the folder you mentioned, but I'm pretty sure they went into the new export folder I created, which appears to have all the images processed during the test. Just mentioning it appears that process moved files out of the Aperture Library, and not copied them to the new location, but I'm sure you know that. I mention for other readers who may run into a similar problem.
I did know the trial was ending, I just didn't think (and rightly so) that my images would not be accessible after the trial expired. I am certainly happy for that.
    Thanks for you help.
