Uninstall CS3 if upgrade to CS4?

Okay, stupid question coming your way . . . .
I have Dreamweaver CS3 full version. I bought and installed
Dreamweaver CS4 upgrade. Both are listed in my applications. Can I
safely uninstall CS3 now to clear room?

If you can verify that all of your site definitions and all
of the
extensions migrated properly then yes.

installation of the upgrade to CS4 without any ill affects?

Definitely leave CS3 installed until AFTER you install CS4.

  • Should I uninstall CS3 after upgrade to CS4

Sorry to ask such a basic question but...
I just installed CS4 after recently installing CS3 after upgragding from CS1. When I went from CS1 to CS3 I am sure that the installer took CS1 away? My PC now has CS3 and CS4 on my PC and I want to know if I can just go ahead and uninstall CS3? If I do, is there anything I need to be aware of?
    Thanks
    Martin

I have a similar question. I just bought a new desktop computer with Windows Vista. I was able to get Adobe CS2 (which is not designed for Vista) installed and working by using the fix mentioned in a few posts on this site...installing to c:\progra~2\Adobe. However, InDesign from Cs2 will no longer open my Pagemaker 6.5 files. I'm ok with no longer using Pagemaker since I know it is going obsolete, BUT I desparately need to be able to convert all my PM files to InDesign. So, my question is...first, does CS4 Indesign open PageMaker 6.5 files? Second, I'm not quite sure how upgrade installations work. Since I have CS2 installed into a special folder, is that going to be a problem to install CS4? Do upgrades have to install into the same folder as previous versions, or do they go into their own new folder? Do I need to uninstall CS2 first? Any help/insight would be appreciated!

  • Is it possible/legal to sell CS3 Design Premium after having uninstalled it and upgraded to CS4?

    Hi,
I have a copy of CS3 Design Premium which belongs to my company. The software was installed and used for a few years, then uninstalled and the code was used to purchase an upgrade to CS4. Is it legal to sell this software? Would a buyer be able to install the software using the serial code?
    Thanks,
    Dave.

No, it's not possible without using hacks. And Adobe can't support or endorse hacks
Bear in mind that not only there are new features in a new version which can't possibly be recreated by an older version - also, there are enhancements to existing features, which would make them render differently in the two versions.
That said, there are people posting such hacks, as Sébastien pointed out.

  • Uninstall CS2 after upgrade to CS4 - is there a new walktrough

Just upgraded from CS2 Premium to CS4 Premium on Mac 0SX 10.5.6, but left CS2 on there as I wanted to copy over a few preset files etc from CS2 to CS4.
Now I want to remove CS2. I've got an old document link for removing CS2 but it mentions removing directories that I know CS4 has installed or shares (e.g. Adobe Utilities and Adobe Updater)
Is there a new walkthrough or utility to remove CS2 once you have upgraded to CS4?

    Buko
That's a bit too succinct and general....
In your apps folder will be a folder call 'Adobe Creative Suite 2'. Within this is an' uninstallers' folder which contains the file 'How to uninstall.pdf'. This file is reproduced (as far as I can tell) at http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=331301
This talks you through the various folders/files to remove.
BUT BEWARE - this was written before CS3/4 existed and as my post (http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b82bde) points out, there will be some folders it suggests you remove, but that CS4 actually need (e.g. Applications/Utilities/Adobe Utilities folder).
I'm seeking a new 'How to Remove CS2 after installing CS4' document myself.
Have spoken to Adobe Tech support today and their suggestion was to "not remove any files/folders you think CS4 may need'.
How flaky is that for Technical Support - some people like to keep their hard drives lean.

  • How to remove CS3 after upgrade to CS4

What is the best way to remove all my CS3 suite after I upgraded to CS4 Suite? Thanks.

As I no longer require CS3 on my Mac after upgrading to CS4 and waiting for the required plugins to be available I have successfully uninstalled CS3 using the Adobe CS3 Creative Suite uninstaller.
NOTE: please make a copy of the 'Adobe Unit Types.osax' found Macintosh HD/Library/ScriptingAdditions/Adobe Unit Types.osax
At home did this without making a backup of the 'Adobe Unit Types.osax', so when I launched Photoshop CS4 it suffered from the "Error: "One or more files in the Adobe Application Support folder.."
At work I did this with making a copy of 'Adobe Unit Types.osax', place it back after the uninstall of CS3... and presto so far so good.
for the 'Error: "One or more files in the Adobe Application Support folder... are missing' when you start Photoshop CS4 (Mac OS)" read here:

sorry if this has already been posted, I could not see this anywhere.

  • Uninstalling CS3 created problem with CS4

I kept CS3 on my system even though I've been using CS4 since it was released. Uninstalled CS3 yesterday and since then I cannot call PS4 from Br4/ When I double-click on an image in bridge it brings up the magnifier. The menu option, "File-->Open With" does not show PS CS4 as an option nor does it give me a "Choose File" option. It does list Acrobat, my browsers, and Paint as opening programs.
How can I get PS4 to show as an option here? Have searched all the Preferences but see no way to do it. On a related note -- is my memory faulty or didn't a double-click at one time allow one to open a photo in an external editor?
Oh yes, I can open PS4 from LR, and I can open Br from PS4 via menu or icon click.
    Would appreciate some help.
    JEL
P.S.I found I can get to PS4 from Br4 by first opening a photo in Camera Row and then opening it via the Open Image button.

    Curt:
Thanks. That did it. What I found was that when I uninstalled CS3, many of my graphic formats -- tif, jpg, nef among them -- were associated with Explorer????
How on earth did it decide to choose Explorer? Nevertheless, my double-click from Br now brings up PS4. Many thanks.

  • Adobe CS3 (32bit) upgrade to CS4 (64bit)

I currently run Adobe CS3 on a 32-bit platform, Windows XP Pro.  Due to recent hardware failures I am purchasing a new computer.  I plan to upgrade my hardware to support 64-bit Windows XP Pro.  I also want to upgrade my CS3  to CS4, to utilize the 64bit support.
Since CS3 does not install on a 64bit platform, how can I upgrade to CS4 on my new 64bit machine, or is this even possible?  I'm worried that I may have to purchase CS4 instead of upgrading due to compatibility issues with CS3 on 64bit machines.

I have vista Biz 64 bit on my new unit. When I try to install master collection CS3 on it the install happens and Bridge Acrobat and OnLocation work. All other programs say I need to re-install or there is a catistrophic failure on my license sub system. I tried switching to XP service pack 2 compatability but still can't get my other programs to start. Adobe customer support just refers to its memo about MC CS3 not supporting 64 bit but then says it should install if I go to a32 bit comp mode. please give more info if possible.. thanks

  • Uninstalling CS3 after upgrading to CS5.5?

Sorry to throw this query at you all but am unable to find an answer in Adobe support after spending half an hour looking!
I've just upgraded from Web Premium CS3 to Web preium CS5.5 - all good - but the I still have all of the CS3 programmes on my PC. Can I now delete the CS3 suite ok without affecting the CS5.5 progs? I presumed that installing an upgrade would do just that - UPGRADE the existing software and not install a whole new suite along side the old one.
    Help appreciated!!
    JC

Upgrade does not do that.  There is a good reason for keeping older versions of software even if DW doesn't have that need.  The best program to think of incompatibilities between versions is InDesign.  I've been in the habit of keeping multiple versions of that, or with Photoshop at one point because I could never remember to switch between 64-bit launch and 32-bit launch for some older functions that were not compatible.
All you have to do is:
Mac User - Go to the Utilities folder and there is a folder of Adobe installers in there.  Choose the CS3 uninstaller.
Windows User - Go to the Control Panel-> Programs and click to uninstall CS3.
If the uninstaller is not present you may need your old media to uninstall.  Or you may be able to clean one version as a last resort ( http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html ).

  • Uninstall Photoshop CS3 after Upgrading to CS4?

I am a late up-grader to Photoshop CS4 (new camera) and I would like to reclaim the gigabyte of space occupied by CS3 and associated files. Is it safe to simply use the uninstaller for CS3? Thanks for the help!
    Jeff

I just did exactly, that.  I installed Photoshop CS4, actually, the entire CS4 master Suite.  Then a few weeks after having used CS4 without any glitches I went through and deleted anything related to CS3 in all the various preferences and Application Support folders and it has been working great since.
I did have some droplets, plug-ins and other items from CS3 that I still needed to use in CS4 so I moved them from the old CS3 folder to the corresponding new CS4 folder. Everything worker very easily and without any problems whatsoever..
I think it would be very safe to use the uninstaller for CS3.  However, be aware that if you have an upgrade version of CS4, it will upgrade the existing CS3 and will not be able to do so if it is uninstalled.  I was working with a new full version so that was not an issue.  Sometimes you can simply put in the old CS3 serial number in order to verify ownership and sometimes you need the actual app on the HD for the upgrade.  It would be advisable to check with Adobe on this.  Or just install CS4 and then after it is verified as working, go through and delete all CS3 related files as I did.

  • Photoshop cs3 extended upgrade to cs4 (non extended)?

First of all, is it possible for me to upgrade my cs3 extended version of photoshop to cs4? I have other programs from adobe on here such as dreamweaver, indesign and illustrator, so do I have to upgrade the whole suite or can I just upgrade the one program that I actually use? And lastly, I bought my computer from a friend who already installed all the programs on it so I don't know whether or not it is registered. Would this be a problem when it comes down to actually installing an upgrade?
Sorry, I'm just getting into all of this so I really don't know anything about the adobe products on my computer. Thanks in advance to all who can help me

okay update... I am speaking to a customer service rep to get the special unlock code that everyone is talking about and he is saying that it is not possible to upgrade just one product within a suite. How is everyone else doing it?

  • Can i uninstall CS3 once upgraded to CS5

    HI
can anyone tell me if its ok to uninstall photoshop cs3 once i have upgraded to cs5 or will that mean cs5 wont work?
Also, if any one has any ideas why the topaz labs plugins dont show up in the filters menu of cs5, any help would be appreciated, ive only just set this mac up today so there are no conflicting files or anything like that...
    thanks
    sarah

CS3 is not actually needed for CS5 to function but most people hang on to it until they are 100% happy with CS5. It not only has a few quirks but is missing some features of earlier versions.
Are the Topaz plug-ins compatible with 64-bit Photoshop?

  • Uninstall CS2 after upgrade to CS4

Is there an uninstaller? What do I need to do/remove?
    thanks,
    rs

if you are certain you don't need any part of CS2
move it to the trash and delete.
be sure you don't need it because you will need to uninstall CS4 to reinstall CS2

  • Procedure to upgrade to CS4 from CS3 without retaining CS3

I am running 10.5.5 on a MacBook Pro. I now have Photoshop CS3 on the MBP. My Photoshop CS4 upgrade DVD just showed up in the mail, and I can't wait to use it.
I would like to install CS4, retain the preferences and presets from CS3 (Photoshop, Bridge, Camera Raw), and get rid of CS3 from my hard drive.
I was unable to find directions on the DVD, Adobe's site, or the forum. I found references to the importance of uninstalling CS3 first before installing CS4 (installing CS4 first and then uninstalling CS3 supposedly would remove some support files required by CS4 and require the reinstallation of CS4).
But if I were to uninstall CS3 before installing CS4, how would the CS4 installer be able to find evidence of CS3 on my MBP, which I presume would be required for the upgrade to work? And, how would I be able to retain my preferences and presets from the Photoshop, Bridge, and Camera Raw in CS3?
I realize from reading some of the posts here that some people prefer to have both CS3 and CS4 on their computers, and others want to only have CS4. I am in the latter camp.
Thank you in advance for your help. I appreciate any advice or suggestions.

I can't edit that but I will report what happen.
It now appears I either logged in as a different user , did an archival reinstall of my system before install the CS programs or the installer will only allow you a one time install and you have either install everything or you have to install all the CS3 programs you intend with that one install.
That would mean I have uninstall the one of the programs of CS3 I have installed and reinstall that and photoshop CS3 at the same time.
Though CS4 install is much more robust there should be a way to install the last version as well. Eventually there will be no disk or even a download but there has to be a formula and reasonable policy for uses who need to use the current as well as the older version of Adobe software.
However no matter how or why this eventually manifest itself it does and I think it should not.

  • CS3 or wait for CS4?

    Hi,
I've read bits and pieces of news for CS4 like 64 bit
support, new code or something and was just wondering if CS3 wont
    upgrade to CS4?
I'm not the expert but I'm sure thats not the case. But I
don't want to upgrade to CS3 if a CS4 update wont be available. I
thought I read somewhere that the new code wont be compatible with
the PowerMac G5 only the Intel based ones? Since I don't have a
Intel Mac and if what I read was correct I was wondering if I
should get CS3 before its gone...
Anyone know a good news site with info?

    Hard to say.
With all honesty, I would get flash just to get going and
    learning, not bothering when
the upgrade will be out. Every day you can be one day ahead
of someone else in the industry
and learn stuff. Get your hands on flash now, upgrade when
    available. And if happens that
new version won't work on your mac, then you have nothing to
worry about as you already have
    fully functioning tool.
