Uninstall CS5 since upgraded to CS5.5?

As a student I purchased Adobe Master Suite Collection CS5 with the option to upgrade to CS5.5 when it was released. I did upgrade to CS5.5 (yes, this was some time ago), but it left CS5 in my computer. I now have both CS5 and CS5.5 in my computer using up space. Is it possible to uninstall CS5? Or does the upgrade require CS5 to remain?

There is no technical requirement to leave older versions in place, just be aware that uninstalling it after the fact will damage your CS5.5 since it removes certain shared components. A reinstall of CS 5.5 will most definitely be required.

  • Can't open old files in CS5 since upgrading to OS X 10.9 Mavericks

    Since I upgraded to OS X, I can open all my CS5 programs and create new files. However, I can't open files I created (even a week ago on CS5) since I upgraded to Mavricks. I googled it and I tried updating my Adobe drive and I updated Java, but I still can't open any file I created before downloading mavericks. In Indesign, I get an error message "Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing or the file may be opened by another application" and In Illustrator I just get the spinning wheel of death...
    Any ideas or suggestions?
    Thanks!

  • Uninstall CS5 after upgrade to CS5.5 Production

    I have recently upgraded to CS5.5 production and would like to know if I should remove CS5 now that I am running 5.5? Or is there any reason to keep both on my computer?
    Is there any special method of uninstalling the old suite.

    The only downside to keeping both is the use of disk space.

  • Can i uninstall CS3 once upgraded to CS5

    HI
    can anyone tell me if its ok to uninstall photoshop cs3 once i have upgraded to cs5 or will that mean cs5 wont work?
    Also, if any one has any ideas why the topaz labs plugins dont show up in the filters menu of cs5, any help would be appreciated, ive only just set this mac up today so there are no conflicting files or anything like that...
    thanks
    sarah

    CS3 is not actually needed for CS5 to function but most people hang on to it until they are 100% happy with CS5. It not only has a few quirks but is missing some features of earlier versions.
    Are the Topaz plug-ins compatible with 64-bit Photoshop?

  • CS5 purchase upgrade to CS5.5

    Hello!
    When I purchased CS5 my business partner and I were both eligable for the free upgrade to CS5.5 to be sent to us. She got hers but for some reason I never got mine and it slipped my mind. Now she is sending me files that she has worked on and I can't open because I don't have the upgrade. Is it possible to still get the upgrade since I was supposed to anyway?
    Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • CS5 Design Upgrade Erases CS5 Production?

    Hello,
    I want to upgrade from Illustrator CS 3 to
    Production Premium CS 5 - $1099
    in addition to...
    upgrade to Design Premium CS 5 - $599
    (from Prod Prem CS5)
    for InDesign, Dreamweaver & Acrobat
    (I don't need nor want other apps in Master collection)
    I have already purchased both software upgrade packages and am waiting on a new computer to install...
    I noticed the CS5 Prod Premium upgrade package did NOT list Illustrator CS 3... so I called customer support and was basically told they do not recommend installing both Production, and Design upgrades as it will work but may cause problems with hard drive???
    I then called Sales to find out what my upgrade options were and was told that CS5 Design upgrade ($599) will ERASE the CS5 Production upgrade???  So my only options are either CS5 Production with Separate Individual purchases for InDesign, DreamWeaver, Acrobat... or CS5 Master Collection.
    So support says It will work but may have problems... Sales says it will not work unless I buy the Master Collection. Figures!
    I am not able to afford (nor do I want) the CS5 Master Collection... so if this won't work I will have to return both... and just order the CS 5 Design Premium upgrade from Illustrator CS 3 ($1499)
    As I am waiting for my new Macbook Pro and have no way to try it out (on my G4 powerbook) any advice or explanation would be greatly appreciated

    It will not cause problems with your hard drive, but there maybe conflicts with the licensing and/or copy protection system Adobe uses. You will really be unable to tell until you install the upgrades, unless another uses has had a reproducible catastrophe, since if it works now there is no guarantee to future performance. However, a well designed licensing system should not have a problem with what you are trying to do. Sorry I cannot be more helpful.

  • Uninstalling CS3 after upgrading to CS5.5?

    Sorry to throw this query at you all but am unable to find an answer in Adobe support after spending half an hour looking!
    I've just upgraded from Web Premium CS3 to Web preium CS5.5 - all good - but the I still have all of the CS3 programmes on my PC. Can I now delete the CS3 suite ok without affecting the CS5.5 progs? I presumed that installing an upgrade would do just that - UPGRADE the existing software and not install a whole new suite along side the old one.
    Help appreciated!!
    JC

    Upgrade does not do that.  There is a good reason for keeping older versions of software even if DW doesn't have that need.  The best program to think of incompatibilities between versions is InDesign.  I've been in the habit of keeping multiple versions of that, or with Photoshop at one point because I could never remember to switch between 64-bit launch and 32-bit launch for some older functions that were not compatible.
    All you have to do is:
    Mac User - Go to the Utilities folder and there is a folder of Adobe installers in there.  Choose the CS3 uninstaller.
    Windows User - Go to the Control Panel-> Programs and click to uninstall CS3.
    If the uninstaller is not present you may need your old media to uninstall.  Or you may be able to clean one version as a last resort ( http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html ).

  • FatalError since upgrade to CS5

    Hi everyone,
    I'm having trouble with a script that served me well for a couple years, but since I upgraded to CS 5, I'm getting the error below:
    FatalError: General Photoshop error occurred. This functionality may not be available in this version of Photoshop.
    - <no additional information available>
    It seems like the script can't properly create the folder in which it should save the images. I also noticed that my error log isn't created as well.
    I've try with some folders manually created and it ran just fine...
    So I think this point to permission issues, but I'm not sure... or perhaps a change between CS3 and CS5 is messing things up... but I've read the CS5 doc and it looks like my script shoud still run properly...
    Here's the code (the part that seems to fail is the folder creation in the exportImage function)
    // export settings
    function exportImage(quality,width,height,suffix,extension)
        var saveOptions = new ExportOptionsSaveForWeb();
               saveOptions.quality = quality;

        var targetHeight = new UnitValue(height,"px");
        docRef.resizeImage(targetWidth,targetHeight);

  • Uninstall CS4 after upgrade to CS5?

    Hi -
    I just upgraded from Photoshop CS4 to Photoshop CS5.
    I had expected CS5 to overwrite and replace CS4, but all the elements of CS4 are still there.
    Should I simply uninstall CS4?
    Is there a risk of losing any files if I do so?
    If so, what should I back up?
    Thanks in advance,
    Dennis

    PS CS4 and PS CS5 can co-exist. You can either use both of them simultaneously or can simply uninstall CS4 if you wish.

  • Extensionsand upgrading to CS5

    I'm planning on upgrading from CS4 Web Premium to CS5 Web Premium. I have several extensions currently
    installed in Dreamweaver. Is it advisable to remove extensions before upgrading, or is it OK to leave them installed?
    Thanks!

    You'll get better advice in the Dreamweaver forum, but FWIW, I didn't uninstall anything when upgrading to CS5 and the extension manager prompted me to move the extensions to CS5.

  • I own CS4, upgraded to CS5, then joined CS6, CC... and now I installed CC14. Which will be the best way to delete or uninstall the programs I don't need keeping only CC14 without running into issues? I have an Alienware Area 51 PC running Windows 7.

    There is none. Whatever you do to get rid of the older versions will inevitably do damage to shared components and other stuff of the new versions as well. That's just how it is with this approach... Uninstall the older versions, run the cleaner tool then reinstall CC 2014.

  • Install CS5.5 Upgrade, Uninstall CS5

    I have had problems in the past uninstalling previous version of Creative Suite after installing an upgrade.  What are the proper steps to uninstalling (including proper deactiviation if necessary) CS 5 Design Premium an installing new CS5.5 Upgrade?  I am on Mac OS X 10.6.

    You can remove CS5 by invoking the un-installer located in Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers.  Once complete install CS5.5 and enter the CS5 serial number when prompted for a qualifying version.

  • Uninstalling CS5 after CS5.5 upgrade

    Maybe my search-fu isn't what it used to be, but I couldn't find any definitive info on this:
    Can I safely uninstall the CS5 Master Collection applications after installing the CS5.5 upgrade on OS X? (Assuming I no longer wish to run the CS5 apps for whatever reason.) Both were installed from disc, and CS5 was my "qualifying product" for the upgrade.
    I know enough to use the uninstallers in the Adobe Applications folders, but I've seen (slightly dubious) anecdotal evidence to suggest that uninstalling CS5 apps after the 5.5 upgrade may actually botch 5.5. Can anyone confirm or deny this? What's the best practice?

    The components of the two versions are independent. You should have no problem uninstalling the older version.

  • Do I need to uninstall CS5 before upgrading to Creative Cloud?

    Just bought a new iMac. Do I need my old software on there before I buy the new CC?

    wondered if I needed my old software on it before upgrading.
    No.
    "Upgrades" are all full versions of the software. They don't depend on prior versions being installed in order to function. Upgrade licensing just means you pay less because you already own a previous qualifying version.
    In the case of Creative Suites (CS5, CS6) "upgrade" only refers to the serial number.
    In the Creative Cloud there are no serial numbers. They're activated via your Adobe ID. The versions available in the Cloud (CS6, CC and CC 2014) are all full versions containing full executable code.
