Uninstall FCE

How do I uninstall Final Cut Express so no files remain so I can re-install like new? I'm having a problem with a scratch disk error that will not allow me to open FCE. I tried moving it to the Trash and re-installing, but that doesn't work.

Uninstalling FCE HD 3.5

I have been following the steps for uninstalling fce from the article in http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301182. I have emptied everything i sent to the trash except LiveType.component and LiveType.framework. I keep getting a message that says "This operation can not be completed because LiveType is currently in use." I'm not sure what to do now.

It is strange you are having that problem. I un-installed my FCE HD 3.0 recently leaving LifeType. I was able to install FCE HD 3.5 without any problems. Have you tried closing down both LifeType and the computer before re-installing?
I would advise you drag the FCE HD programme to the Trash area, short down the computer, relaunch it and install FCE HD again. This might do the trick

Trying to uninstall FCE, problem.

I am following the article on how to uninstall FCE Hd and I am being told that "Livetype" is in use and will not let me empty the trash.
I trashed every file the article told me to.
I am doing this because I must have trashed an old project and FCE was not letting me set a new scratch disk so I could never get the app open.
So, if you can shed any light on the trash problem, that would be awesome.
Also, I guess I need to find out the proper way to trash a project so FCE doesnt go looking for it everytime it starts up.

Can you reboot the computer? Then try emptying the trash.
Close the Browser before quitting the application. The next time it starts it will open an empty project. Or trash your preferences files.

Uninstalling FCE 1.0.1 and HD

I just purchased FCP studio and want to uninstall FCE 1.0.1 and FCEHD off of my computer so I can install FCP. Am I ok to uninstall those previous versions of Express even though I am working on projects that are using those versions? Am I able to upgrade those projects to Pro once I get that installed?

I think you should be able to use an FCE project in FCP but it might be wiser to finish it off first in FCE.
(Incidentally I think you can have FCE and FCP safely residing on the same computer).

Uninstall FCE 4

Can someone tell me how to uninstall FCE. I upgraded to FCE 4 and now I want to reinstall FCE 3.5. I want to be able to work smoothly between all three applications again.
Side note: Could I just leave FCE 4 the way it is and install FCE 3.5 again and have both on my computer or was this a dumb question to ask in the first place.

I have and Old iMac G5, last year I bought FCE 4, and now, I'm changing to a new iMac Intel Core processor i5.
Can i uninstall the FCE 4 and Install it to my new iMac Intel core Processor i5?

Yes, you can do this. Just uninstall FCE from your old G5 iMac; then install it on your new i5 iMac.
The license allows you to install FCE on 1 desktop Mac and 1 laptop Mac as long as you own both and do not use FCE on both at the same time. You can move it from Mac to Mac as long as you abide by the license terms.

Can FCE 1 Be Uninstalled Using FCE 2 Instructions?

Apple only give uninstall instructions for FCE 2 and HD.
There are none for the original version.
Can I uninstall FCE 1 using the same instructions as FCE 2 or is there some difference I should be aware of?

It's basically the same. Some of the pref file names are different, but the concept of what you have to trash is the same.

FCE4.0.1 won't open when the App Icon is clicked. I've checked all Ext HD (verified prefs)- have trashed the FCE App and reinstalled from FCE discs, have downloaded the Plug In. I clicked on the FCE icon, the windows that says :registered to...and then l

FCE 4.0.1 won't open when I click the icon in the Dock or in the Applications icon of FCE. It had been working well but I had trouble when I trashed the reference Scratch disk to a project and I was asked to get it back. I checked all my drives through verify in Disk Utility and a couple needed repair - eventually were given the OK. I then Shut Down and rebooted, I then trashed the FCE App and reinstalled from the Install discs and , finally, I tried opening a FCE project. None of these caused the FCE App to open with Browser, Viewer, Canvas,. Time Line. All that happens is the the first FCE window, the one that says FCE registered to...and the other that says loading AE Effects, Video Effects does show but then nothing except my Desktop with it's various folders and files I also downloaded the Plug In Tom Wolsky suggested to a recent query.
All I can think of is to backup everything to HDs and take this iMac in for a service.It is only six months old - I reckon it will be poor driving by it's proud but unskilled driver!

Don't panic . . . . . yet!
You may not have trashed FCE properly.
Deleting the application icon is useless as there are a number of files hidden elsewhere which may be corrupt.
Download this free app to uninstall FCE completely and then reinstall it.

If I reinstall my FCE 3.5 from the original discs, will I be able to get the updates from Apple?

System has begun crashing (dropping-windowshade, message to shut down computer) during attempted capture or render. Hardware has been checked out and is OK. Other OS functions seem to be working. I have a bootable clone from the most recent period of good function, and also my original install disc for FCE.
If I need to try reinstalling FCE, are the updates still available from Apple?
If I can't restore FCE 3.5, is there anything I can use with my OS 4.11 MBP that will be able to access my FCE 3.5 project files? My 3+TB of underwater clips, stored on external drives as QT movies?

FCEx HD lost work, How do I uninstall?

I recently spent days working on a video. i saved the project at the end of the day but when i opened up FCEx HD the next moring all the previous days work had gone. The footage is still there because the amount of available space on my external HD is at the same level it was the day before. does anybody know where i can find all the clips of have i lost them permenantly? Secondly when i installed FCEx HD i installed the entire application on my macbooks HD, samples included. As you all know this takes up a considerable amount of memory. Is it possible to uninstall FCEx HD including all the sample but then re-install it so the programme is on my macbook HD but all the samples are placed on my external HD? Any help would be much appreciated.

When you reinstall, you can put the 3 applications on your laptop and the large media files (samples) on an external HD.
Incidentally, if you find that the installer insists on installing the media files on your laptop you can simply go ahead and do it. Then copy them across to your external HD and delete the originals.
You will need to do a few simple things so that the programs will know where to find them, but we can give you that info later if you need it.

I am getting an error when opening FCE HD "The application FCEHD quit unexp

I have been using FCE for several months. I was capturing a video from my cam and when it was finished FCE froze on me. I quit the app and now I can't get it to work at all. I trashed my preferences and even tried uninstalling FCE completely and reinstalling it. I still get the same response. Can some please help?????

This could be a hardware problem. Did you try rebooting the computer between attempts? You might want to contact Apple and tell them this is a recent installation and after running for a short while the app fails to open. They'll probably tell you to reinstall. Make sure you uninstall all the pieces and support files and preferences first before reinstalling.

I have installed FCE on my macbook and on my desktop. Then I accidentally migrated FCE from the desktop to the macbook. Now each time I launch FCE on the macbook it asks for the product serial number. How can I stop this happening?

Now each time I launch FCE on the macbook it asks for the software serial number. I enter the number which is then rejetced as it's already been used twice. FCE launches anyway as the licence info had already been written to my hard drive when I first installed FCE. How can I stop it asking for the serial nmber every time I open FCE?

You need to uninstall FCE from you Macbook and then reinstall it.
If you are not familiar with the process, FCS Remover is an app that can uninstall FCE for you.

FCE 3 crashes on startup

Since I am using OSX 10.4 HD FCE 3 crashes on startup.
Versions:
- Final Cut Express HD 3.0 updatet 3.0.1 forced with Pacifist.
- Mac OS X 10.4.3
I tried everything what I saw so fare in this forum. Deleted FCE acording Apples “How to Uninstall FCE HD“ and installed it again with the original Disk’s.
In the start up window from FCE the process goe’s till „loading Audiofilters“ and the it crashes.
Anybody knows a solution?

Why did you update to 3.0.1? This is only for the newer G5s (Powermacs and iMacs) with PCI Express graphics. I don't know what you've got (Powermac or iMac), but at 1.8GHz I doubt has PCI Express graphics.
Did you try it before updating to 3.0.1?
If so do you have any Audiofilters installed (since you mention that is where it crashes)?

I STILL can't open FCE :( I need help!

I recently purchased Final Cut Express 2.0 and installed it onto my computer. After running into numerous glitches, I upgraded to FCE 3.5.
I installed FCE 3.5 and LiveType and Soundbooth both are working great. However, when I open FCE, it begins to open and starts to load. You assume it is going to load in, but then the screen disappears and you are back to the desktop. It dissappears on the splashscreen when something about "AU Pitch" comes up.
I have deleted the preference files from the library, figuring that would be the solution. However, it seems as if that still has not solved my problem. I also tried Reparing Disc Utilities AND I tried re-installing just Final Cut Express after deleting the files that I thought might have been corrupt. I also tried deleting any thrid party downloads or anything I thought might not agree with Final Cut...but still, no luck.
Can anybody lend some advice as to what else I might try? If you have steps on how to do these things, that'd be great, too.
The apple support people that I called said I should come on here, so please do not advise me to call Apple.

Did you trash the preferences and uninstall FCE EXACTLY as per the instructions in your other post ?

If you didn't do EXACTLY what was in those instructions you will have wasted your time.
If they don't cure it you must have something unusual installed on your computer that is causing a conflict.
As nobody else has access to your Mac, there is no way of telling what that might be.
You haven't by any chance got FileVault turned on ? (Find it in System Preferences>Security)
Why don't you uninstall FCE 3.5 properly and reinstall FCE 2 ? This way, if it worked it might suggest there is a problem with the FCE 3.5 DVD. (You will get an error message but you simply press the esc key to let FCE open).
How did you originally install FCE 3.5 ? Did you put FCE 2 on first ?
You shouldn't have FCE 2 on an Intel Mac at all. You just install the FCE 3.5 Upgrade ONLY and put in both serial numbers when asked.

FCE is running very slowly lately, freezing a lot...

I have about had enough! It use to not be this way... why is it running so slowly and freezing? Do I need to re-install FCE? or would I lose my projects if I did that?
