Uninstall Firefox 6.0.2 on Mac OS 10.7

Hi,
I need to do a complete unistall/reinstsall of Firefox after it crashed. I've tried reinstalling but cannot get FF to open by simply moving the app to trash. I want to delete the settings files but I cannot find the following on my system:
1. ~/Library/Preferences/org.mozilla.firefox.plist
2. ~Library/Application Support/Firefox
Am I missing something? I have two Mozilla directories that don't appear to have any of this information. Deleting these directores hasn't helped.

Strange, I'm having the exact same problem on Jan 18 2013 (exactly a year later). I'm running Firefox 18.0 on MacOS 10.7.4. I tried clearing the cache, but that didn't help. I'm also seeing the same problem using SeaMonkey 2.15 on my Mac (which makes me think it isn't just my FF browser config), but I don't see the issue with Safari nor with Firefox 18.0 on my Windows-8 box...

  • I can't uninstall Firefox version 11 from my MAC, nor can I upgrade to a more recent version of Firefox.

I believe that I have a corrupted version of Firefox. I have followed the procedures both for removal and for upgrade that are posted in the support forums, and neither are effective for me.
I do not have a conventional Firefox icon on my screen, rather I have a grey question mark. When I attempt to deposit that question mark icon in my wastebasket, it just bounces back out.
When I have tried to upgrade to a more recent version of Firefox (and I've been trying to upgrade with each new iteration of Firefox from version 12 to the current version 32), I receive an error message that I can run only one version of Firefox, and the upgraded version is rejected in favor of version 11.
Additionally, Firefox version 11 blocks me from adding any other programs onto my Mac. I want to get rid of version 11. How can I do it?

Dear ideato--Thank you for your suggestion. While I was able to drag a shadow of the Firefox icon from the applications folder to the dock and drop it into the wastebasket, the icon remains in the applications folder and Firefox version 11 is still on my computer blocking every attempt to add a program or to upgrade to the current version of Firefox. The question mark is still on the dock, too. Regards--DavidK126

I absolutely do NOT WANT firefox to keep interfering when I am on google. How do DELETE firefox from my mac?

Are you talking about the google start page that is the default home page for FireFox? See attached. Its not ''interfering'' with google...if you want to, make google.com your home page.

  • I updated to Yosemite on my Mac. Firefox then began to freeze. I uninstalled Firefox and then downloaded/installed it again. How do I recover bookmarks, etc?

I updated to Yosemite on my iMac. Firefox then began to freeze. I uninstalled Firefox and then downloaded/installed it again. It's possible I uninstalled everything Mozilla related. I'm not sure. How do I recover bookmarks, passwords, etc? I don't believe I previously had a username & password for Mozilla. I do have my Mac backed up in Time machine and also a Carbon Copy Clone.
Also, I was able to migrate setting from Safari. Perhaps I don't want some of that stuff? Looking at the list of installed plugins, I have no clue if they're standard Apple/Mozilla stuff, or if they were selected by me/my family earlier in Safari? Are any of them a threat to my online security?
Any detailed instruction would be most appreciated. I'm not much of a tech guy.
    Thanks.

  • How do I uninstall Firefox from my Mac?

I downloaded Firefox to my Mac OS X 10.7.2 when a script I wanted to install wasn't compatible with Safari. However, now i want to uninstall Firefox, but when I drag it to the trash and try to delete it, a window pops up that says it can't be deleted because "the program is in use". Does anyone know how to fix this, or another way to uninstall Firefox?
    Thanks, Jamie

As stated above you need to quit Firefox and then you can empty the trash with it in there (or relaunch finder or reboot will also quit FF of course).
Note, if you want to remove all of the stuff FF installs then in addition to the app there are the following in your home directory:
    ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox
    ~/Library/Preferences/org.mozilla.firefox.plist

Found the solution on YouTube as follows: open "Finder", pull down "Go" menu while holding down "Option" key. This will reveal hidden "Library" file. Open "Library" file and delete hidden files "Firefox" and "Mozilla" that were left behind when Firefox was uninstalled. End of problem!

    Just once or twice

It turns out that the problem had to do with network accounts, even though it was not clear at first.  Redirecting the program to the local machine's cache with a network home redirector script fixed the issue.  Thanks anyway.

  • I was no longer able to click on my Firefox icon and open . I uninstalled firefox and then reinstalled and I still cannot get Firefox to open. It says that the download was successful. What should I do?

I attempted to open Firefox as usual and when I clicked on the icon nothing happened. I uninstalled Firefox and then reinstalled. It said that the download for Firefox was successful but it still does not open. When I click on Firefox it now just says to upgrade Firefox. What should I do to get Firefox up and running again. I have a Mac and my Safari is linking me just fine to the internet so Apple says it is not a Mac problem but a Firefox problem.

I notice you turned off the setting that diverts new windows to a new tab. Since the new window will open in front of your current tab, it may appear that the current tab was closed, when in fact it is behind the new window. This hard to explain in words.
Do you want to switch the setting?
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Tabs
Check the box for "Open new windows in a new tab instead"
    Does that help?

  • Specifically, how do i uninstall Firefox 4? (I want to go back to 3.6.16 ASAP)

I love change, and I love Firefox. That said, I simply cannot stand Firefox 4. I HATE it. It has robbed me of all kinds of flexibility and customization and until that changes, I have absolutely NO INTENTION of using Firefox 4 on any of my Macs.
Bottom line, I would like to revert back to version 3.6.16 and do not want to lose whatever it was that was being used on my Mac when I was running 3.6.16 a mere half an hour ago. Thank gawd I didn't upgrade to FF 4 on my MacPro running Snow Leopard. I'd be really pissed.
So.... on the computer I am using now which is a Macbook Pro running OS 10.5.8. I would be grateful if someone could instruct me as to how, specifically, to UNINSTALL Firefox 4 (prior to my reinstalling FF 3.6.16?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Firefox versus Safari? And how do I uninstall Firefox?

I've always only used Safari. Firefox has been recommended to me in case I have to reinstall OS X while on the road and unable to update beyond the 10.4.6 of my retail OS X install disk. See:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1897928&tstart=0
I went to this Firefox link to download 3.0.6 for my G4 as well. (No problems, I trust, for me to install it onto our iBook which currently just has Safari.)
Our G4 has on it Firefox 3.03b, a beta version that was downloaded for me by the Apple consultant who updated my computer a year ago.
How do I get rid of this old, beta version to install the new version. Mind you, I never have used Firefox on the G4, but I figured I might as well test it out at home before we hit the road.
I tried to search for uninstall Firefox on the link above (while using Safari) and I kept getting warnings that Safari was slow and couldn't do this (or something like that - I admit, I just baled out of the search and got off the site before I copied down the warning and I don't want to go there again!)
Am I just asking for trouble by installing the newer version of Firefox onto the G4? Should I just uninstall the beta Firefox and stick with Safari?

Yes, use AppDelete to make sure you don't have any left over components of the beta version. The components on the beta version for Mac OS 9 could corrupt your newer Firefox application. The fewer associated files on the drive, the better.
Actually the beta version is for OS X; it never came in contact with my OS 9 which is on a different, separate drive. I wondered if it could possibly have done so on its own - since I recall when I was using only OS 9 and switched from whatever the earlier version had been to Mozilla, it found all the old bookmarks and just picked them up without my even asking it to.
Looks like once you pay for AppDelete you can update it without paying each time? I assume it's as easy as it looks?
Thanks again from the ever cautious,

    HI Mrs. H,
Always good to be cautious! I hear you loud and clear.
It's as easy as it looks. Reggie Ashworth wrote this application and you can download and use the trial version if you wish. http://reggie.ashworth.googlepages.com/appdelete

  • Uninstalled Firefox & deleted profile folder. Installed new Firefox but box pops up "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded It may be missing or inaccessible."

I can't reinstall firefox. I deleted the profile folder and uninstalled firefox in hopes of clearing up the cookies from some problems I was having accessing my school course through a website. It seems to be downloaded but won't open up because the profile is missing. Help is appreciated thanks!

If you delete the Firefox profile folder, but leave the profiles.ini file then Firefox will try to access the folder that is marked as "Default=1" in the profiles.ini file and that will cause this error message.
    *Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/
In Mac OS X v10.7 and later, the ~/Library folder is a hidden folder.
You do not have to delete the Firefox profile folder if there is a problem with the cookies.
You would only have to delete the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies in case clearing the cookies in the normal way isn't working.
You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
*Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
    *Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
    *Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

  • I can't print only selected text since upgrading to Firefox 8.0. Using Mac OS Lion

Until Firefox 8.0, I could select text on any webpage and print only that text. Now, I can't even get a print dialog box with an option to "Print Selection" only.
I also recently upgraded to OS Lion (from OS Leopard) on Mac. Any chance that that is the problem or is it in Firefox? I've seen lots of help requests on this site from other people with problems printing selected text from websites.

Firefox hangs the same way in safe mode.
There is no such thing as a Firefox program folder on a Mac, nor is there an "uninstall" to do, so these directions are not relevant to a Mac user.
    The problem remains.

  • Cannot start or uninstall firefox

Firefox 3.6.15 will not open (either in the normal fashion or in safe mode). I’ve tried to create a new profile but I cannot access the Profile Manager. When I type firefox.exe –profilemanager into the run box on the start menu, I just get a box that says “We're Sorry. Firefox had a problem and crashed. We'll try to restore your tabs and windows when it restarts.” (But I cannot restart it. I can’t start it at all!) I am also unable to uninstall Firefox. I have tried my add/remove programs but that does not work. I have tried to manually run C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\uninstall\helper.exe. but that program simply will not run. I have checked in the Task Manager Processes list and Firefox is not listed there so it's not running in the background. I have restarted my computer. I have hard re-booted my computer. Absolutely nothing related to Firefox works no matter what I try and yet it’s worked perfectly for the past couple of years, up until today. HELP!

    Hello,
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!
    Thank you.

  • Since I must stick with my OS X 10.5.8, should I uninstall Firefox 16 and re-install Firefox 15.0.1?

Or, since both have security problems for OS 10.5.8 that Apple refuse to acknowledge (their way of forcing us to upgrade - very Microsoft-esque!), should I just switch to Safari or Chrome, both of which I hate. I really want to stay with Firefox. How much of a security risk is it? For comparison purposes, how much would the upgrade to 10.8 cost in the US (I live in Ireland), please?
All and any help would be much appreciated - thanking you in advance.

    Hi fnibhriain
Do NOT uninstall 16.0 because it is the latest compatible for your 10.5 mac
see: [http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/16.0/system-requirements/ Firefox 16 System Requirements]
[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-no-longer-works-mac-os-x-10-5 Firefox no longer works with Mac OS X 10.5]
the upgrade from 10.5 to 10.8 the cost is 45-50 dollars see why:
