Uninstall garage band to save memory

How do I uninstall large apps like garage band on my MacBook air?

Hello there vivifrance,
It sounds like you want to remove some applications from your computer. In general you can uninstall applications using the following article:
OS X Mavericks: Install, update, and uninstall apps
Uninstall apps
To uninstall apps you purchased from the Mac App Store, hold down an app’s icon in Launchpad until all the icons begin to jiggle. Click an app’s delete button (x).If an icon doesn’t have a delete button, it can’t be uninstalled. For example, apps that come with OS X can’t be uninstalled.
To uninstall other apps, drag the app to the Trash (located at the end of the Dock), then choose Finder > Empty Trash. If you change your mind, before emptying the Trash, select the app in the Trash, then choose File > Put Back.
Warning: When you empty the Trash, the app is permanently removed from your Mac. If you have any files that you created with the app, you may not be able to open them.
Some apps like Garageband and its Loops also store files elsewhere that can also take up a lot of space. Here is how to find and delete the Garageband Loops from your computer as well:
GarageBand, Logic: Where loops get installed
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
All the very best,
Sterling

  • I uninstalled garage band which was preinstalled on my mac, how do I reinstall it?

Garage band came preinstalled on my mac book air and I uninstalled it for space on my start up disk. Now I cant reinstall it without paying, is this right? I might be on a different apple ID as I was given the mac by family who didnt want ti anymore. wouldI need their log in to redeem this?

Check the "Purchased" tab of the AppStore, if GarageBand is listed with an "Accept" button beside it.  If you see "Accept", the previous owner did not yet associate it with hero his Apple ID, and you can accept it for yourself.  If GarageBand, iMove, iPhoto do not show there, only the previous owner can install or update the apps for you, using the AppleID that has been used to accept the apps.
In that case, your family members will have to download the apps again for you. Otherwise you have to buy them again from the main "Featured" page of the AppStore, after signing in with your own AppleID.

  • How can I uninstall Garage Band extras?

I installed the additional stuff that comes in the Installation DVD's but I don't think I need it. How can I get rid of all those extra files? Where are they located? Can I just delete them?

The installation DVD's has some more loops and instruments I think that it can install that take like a 1 extra Gb. As all the additional stuff didn't really help much I want to recover that space. I wanted to know if that could be uninstalled in a safe way and leave GB as it was before(normal installation).

  • Mac OSX 10.6.8 Garage Band '11. This error happens occasionally : I am forced to power-off-on.  Pop-up states that error info will be sent to apple. I never hear back from apple. Second prob: Fan sometimes comes on, runs high speed, then slowly stops.

Garage Band '11: pop-up error forces me to power off-on. Message states that info will be sent to Apple.
I never hear back from anyone about this.

First thing to do is a SMC Reset, you can find instructions at:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY!!!!
Then try Repairing Disk Permissions, do this at least 2x. You will find this in Disk Utility which is located in Applications - Utilities - Disk Utility.
Finally you may need to uninstall Garage Band and reinstall. You may have to use Pacifist to do this, you can find it at:

  • Are there any ill effects from removing Garage Band?

Can I uninstall Garage Band with no ill effects to my operating system?  I don't want it--but if I'm going to mess something up by removing it, I'll leave it.

No problem at all. Drag the Garageband icon from the Applications folder to the trash, then go to Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support and drag the Garageband folder from there to the trash.
Similarly with your home folder > Library > Application Support > Garageband.
    In home folder > Library > Preferences there are 3 plist files;
It doesn't matter if you leave them, as they use little space, but trash them if you're comfortable doing so.
    Apple Loops;
There's also a Garageband folder in home > Music
Macintosh HD > Users > shared > GarageBand Demo Songs.
Also any third party loops (Dance Packs etc.) which may be lurking in your home folder or Applications folder. (Only if you've installed them).
Might be a few other bits scattered around, but nothing to worry about.

  • Exporting Garage Band to MIDI

I have a client that wants some original music created for a consumer product. They need the end files in MIDI format. I have never created MIDI files before. Can I create music files in Garage Band and save them or export them as MIDI files???
    Thanks!

No, GarageBand doesn't allow to export your song as midi. You have to use program that has a midi sequencer, like Logic.
There's also shareware out there that does just the midi stuff and doesn't come with the bulky audio software on top. Just did a search on Apple's site, you may want to try this one:

  • TS1702 If one of my apps has info on it and I uninstall it and reinstall it because it isn't working will everything be erased ? Please help it's my garage band app I've made songs on there and I'm afraid they'll get deleted if I reinstall the app after I

Please can someone help me with a problem I'm having with my garage band app?
Not to long ago I was using my garage Band app and I was making some songs when all of a sudden it closed on me I was so mad because I was in the middle of making a song so I never got to save it , so I continued to try to open the app again but now all it does is it seems to get ready to open but then it shuts off without even opening . I went to trouble shooting and have done everything except for uninstalling the app reason why is I'm afraid of all my work on there will be deleted and I won't be able to get it back.
I only know just a little about iPads mine is and ipad2 and I need someone's help is there a way for me to fix this without erasing the work I've done on there. And or should I just wait for garage band to have an update on the App Store and update it without deleting it? Please I don't now what to do.
If someone could walk me through what is wrong what I need to do and how etc.
    thank you
    Your fellow apple customer
    Simachyahi .

I have tried all those things I even updated the software to the new iOS system and it still did fix my problem.
What happened is that my garage band looks like it will open then it shuts down.
I have lot of important things on my garage band and I'm afraid that if I uninstall it deleting it then reinstalling it all my work on it will be gone and I can't have that happen.
Everyday I am hoping that when i go to open the app that is will work but it doesn't it gets ready to turn on then it shuts off , the app doesn't even open all the way and turns off.
I really hope I don't have to erase it.
It'll say it's ,lading my songs then it shuts down .
If I waited for the App Store to come up with an update for garage band should I wait till then to update my app so it doesn't get damaged . I don't want to erase it and all my data get erased . I figured if I wait for an update then my garage band will reset itself but won't delete my data. I'm not sure if that will help. Is there anything you or anyone else might know that can help me with this matter ?
    Thank you
    Simachyahi

    tornado2003,
What you need to do is boot into Safe Mode. Then delete the VGA Drivers.
After that boot normally and install the latest nVidia ForceWare Drivers
    Take Care,
    Richard
    i guess you missed that:

  • How do I take a voice memo and save it in my music app or use it as a sample in garage band

i don't know how to use a voice memo on my iPhone 5c in garage band as a sample or audio recording. I also want to save it under my music app

to do both of these, you will need to go through iTunes: sync your iPhone, change the nature of the voice memo from "voice memo" to "music", make sure it shows in your iTunes library, then sync the iPhone again.

  • Memory to run garage band?

does anyone know how much memory it takes to run garage band? say if your recording live using all 8 tracks?

Anything under a Gigabyte will make the program rather slow, under 500 MB is a no-no.

  • Will no longer save my files to disc or export them. Will only save within Garage Band?

I've been uploading podcasts to my website which in turn puts them on itunes but this week suddenly, garageband will no longer "export to disc" or when it does it will save at twice the file size it estimated. When I try exporting directly into iTunes the "song" never exports (though no warning appears saying it's failed) and when i export to disc (i.e. desktop) the file also doesn't show up on desktop. I can, however, still listen to it within Garage Band. Although that's useless pretty much since the files are meant to be shared.

Without any details it's impossible to even guess what your problem could be.

  • HT4463 Recent MBP Pro Retina purchase, Garage Band "registry error".  Uninstall and reinstall help.

Got an MBP Pro Retina recently, Garage Band is not working and is stating a potential "registry error".  I'd like uninstall and reinstall. However, I am unable to redownload the dmg. Help?

It's ok I've done this numerous times. Drag the iLife app to the trash. Enter your passward. Now refresh MAS and you'll see installed changes to install because MAS doesn't see it anymore. You can now click to redownload that App again.
You don't have to empty the trash btw just yet, that way you can always redo the original from the trash if you really want to. Maybe that will make you feel a little easier now.
Let us know how it goes.

How do I upgrade the ram?
The 2 places I’ve seen recommended most to buy reliable RAM are below. I have purchased RAM several times from Other World Computing and have always been very satisfied with the product and service. They have on-line instructions on how to replace the RAM. OWC has also tested RAM above what Apple states is the maximum. I now have 6GB installed on a machine supposedly limited to 4 GB.
    Crucial
    Other World Computing
Do a backup, preferably 2 separate ones on 2 separate drives.
Revert to a Previous OS X - Yosemite
    Revert to Snow Leopard
If you do revert, I'd use Setup Assistant to restore your data. This process takes a while, so do it when you won't need the computer for several hours, based on my experience.
